    Loose Canons

((Some random thoughts, ideas and Canon character related pieces that, obviously, are not official canon but, eh, I figured I might as well have a shot at writing. See if I could do them right, or at least be mildly entertaining for peeps to read. Enjoy, heh.))

Somewhere in International Waters, near the American East Coast…

The room was, to say the least, extravagant. The wall opposite the door was made up nearly entirely of wardrobes. The floor space was taken up by a massive, four-poster King sized bed against the left wall, intricately carved and with a perfect finished that practically sang of money, and also by a large, snow-tiger skin rug. The right hand wall was dominated entirely by mirrors. Other items of note included two expensive looking urns, and a marble bust on a pedestal.

A door that did not belong to a wardrobe swung open as a man strode into the room, humming Wagners Ride of the Valkyries under his breath, the smell of water and shampoo following him from the shower. He was tall, with shoulder length blonde hair, a toned physique and wearing only a long towel around his waist. His face was also a near exact likeness to the one belonging to the marble bust in the corner. As he swung open one of the massive wardrobes and stepped in, he seemed to be deep in conversation with someone.

“The man was an idiot, of course. I did suspect that…Quite good style, of course. Oh, nothing in comparison to yourself, dear boy, don’t be ridiculous. Yes, yes I know we could have put Featherby in his place, but you know the man’s so damned dull, wot? Oh well, seems you’ll have to put him in anyway. Eadward shouldn’t have been such a useless cad. I mean, taken down by the Council? That’s just…embarrassing! Of course, you can’t let that stand, hm? Doesn’t do to let scruffy, uncouth yobs like them think they can do what they please. Hmn, yes, I’ll get right on that, right on it indeed. Now…does this work, d’you think?”

Stepping out of the wardrobe, the man examined himself critically in the mirror. A fully black jumpsuit, accented by flame markings from the knee up, knee length flame-patterned combat boots and ornate gauntlets to match, topped with his harness, golden eagle chest-buckle and his epaulets.
“My dear chap, you look stunning. Only one person is equal to that, and she’ll come round. In time, in time,” the man stated to his reflection, flicking his hair back and flashing a grin.

The room’s door was swung open, and Captain Ernest Castillo stepped out, marching smartly along the corridor. He snapped his fingers, and two attendants dashed forward, hefting the Captain’s customised jetpack into place and strapping him in quickly and, above all, carefully. Woe betide anyone who sullied the Captain’s suit, that much was fact. With no given order, the pair of Sky Raiders moved ahead, swinging open the doors at the end of the corridor and slamming to attention.

Castillo stepped out onto the balcony, overlooking the main assembly hall. With a shouted order below, the battalion of Sky Raiders snapped to attention.
“Gentleman!” Castillo leaned both hands on the railing, flashing a pearly grin, “I do believe we have some business with the Council. We shall depart momentarily, and I shall lead you in a glorious assault of the base that Lieutenant Eadward so sloppily got defeated in. At least someone can show you how things are done properly, hmm?”

This surprises you? You must be new here

Edit: I am very much in favour of the new version, personally, but I also understand the counter argument.

I still recall other posters that called him on it since no one could replicate anything close to it on Live.

I still recall him reluctantly admitting that they'd discovered that the server they were doing their test and video on didn't have the same version of the code as what was on the Live server.

I remember him refusing to rerun the tests on the same code as the Live server and post a video but saying instead that the changes would be happening anyway and he didn't need to prove that Regen was over-powered.

I still remember the friends that quit the game when that nerf went Live. Most of them quit due to his obstinate stance on the matter and insistence that his vision of what was fun was the only one that was right.
If people think my current rage-high's are bad, oh boy is it a good think that I wasn't here when Jack was...I think, for my own sanity, I'm glad that wasn't the case.

'Turning the Apocalypse and Ragnarok dials up to 101 doesn't quite do it justice' springs to mind, heh/

Yes, I know Blaster secondaries were strengthened recently, but they're still one of the weakest, least useful powersets in the entire game. If I can have Blasters but with even Scrapper sets (and Scrapper survival numbers), then I'd never even look at Blasters again. I'd still play Scrappers because "Sword Blast" isn't as cool as Sword Melee, but that's just why a sort of balance must be maintained.

That balance, I assume, will seek to lower the stats on everything, and I hope a "gimmick" of some sort will allow fewer numbers to go less low down.
You still seem to be ignoring that 'Tankmage' status has already been killed and buried with a stake through it at the crossroads since EATs came out. It's only a matter of time, IMO, till we (finally) get a Ranged/Armour or Assault/Armour AT that isn't so annoying restricted as Khelds or VEATs.

  7. The main issue with Psyche's costume is that the in-game one looked nothing like ANY of the Renders of her. There was so much wrong with the in-game one that anything else got sidelined.

And I just hate the face-plate thing Penny has. Lose that and I can live with it. It looks stupid =/
  8. I think Synapse just found some new fans, no?
  9. I just don't like the face-plate-mask...thing. I keep thinking she has grey/metal eyebrows. It looks daft. The rest of the costume looks 'meh' but I can live with it.

Edit: I mean, how does that thing even stay on? Does it have clips? Statesman's Mask was one thing, I always assumed it was attached to his spandex hood, but this thing looks like it's held on with double sided tape or something. It's daft!

So, barring any technical issues or weird unforseeables, I will be removing this limitation.

So, ever dreamed of a PB with Teleport, a WS with fly? PBs with Air Superiority of WSs with Group Teleport? Soon you'll be able to. Hallelujah

Arcana, you're going to have to imagine a giant 'Like' button, and then you're going to have to imagine me designing a giant Gatling-cannon to fire innocent civilians at it until I run out of/can't catch any more ammo.

On topic, I like all the Melee ATs, personally. It adds subtle different flavours to every character.
Like my first character, Chief Centurion Z1. He's the big, stoic, archetypal Tank; he sits in the middle of mobs, barely taking a scratch, trying to reason with them and informing them of the poor life choices they've made, while illustrating this by smacking them about with Energy Melee.

He's completely different my Stalkers, both of whom are stealthy, burst damage type fighters who, conceptually, both prefer stealth. One because she's a commando, and the other is a thief. Stalkers let me do that perfectly.

I like Scrappers as being a solid, constant damage dealer. They don't rely on stealth, they don't need to build Fury. They just beat the snot out of stuff until it falls over, and then rinse and repeat. A lot. And beat lots of stuff. Very, very hard. Crits are just icing on the cake of reliability.

And then we have Ceasar, my Brute. 7'-8' Troll. Dresses and talks like a businessman. Walks the walk, talks the talk, mess with his stuff and he'll turn your 'orrible little face into jam on the pavement! Brooting suits him perfectly. He's big, he's tough, fighting him just gets him more psyched and more ready to pound you into a smear on the floor.

    ---

So, I know it was a semi-joke topic, but just putting out my 2 inf on where I stand with all the melee ATs

I actually feel this building being out of place fits the game world better than Atlas Park suddenly waking up with brand new modern sky scrapers all over the place.
Yeah, but Atlas was always meant to look new, shiny and be the 'heart of the city'. It just looked like [Pancake]. Some of the old buildings had no windows for crying out loud. I'm no architect, but old Atlas, just like Steel Canyon still does, made me go "Wait, what the hell, who built this thing?! Were the five?"

  18. Kheldians get;

    -Godmodes
-Mixture of AoE and ST attacks
    -+HP powers
    -Recovery and Heal powers
-Basically all the stuff talked about

They already HAVE a base level for a Blast/Armour or Assault/Armour AT. There is NO good reason to not have one in game (no, screaming 'Tankmage!' doesn't cut it. Again, EATs. Balanced. Go figure.)

Ah, my answer is already stated. My Crab can't do half the stuff my Nictus can.
Most ATs, if built right with the right sets, is freaking insane. That argument isn't one, it's a known truth that is true for a number of damage dealing ATs and even some support ATs. So, if anything, IOs are overpowered, not ATs, and thus stops nothing from being created.

It's a hamfisted point trying to call out about Statesman and Pysche and that IS a pretty silly situation, but it's not really analogous to THIS situation except as a tangent about characters dying (not BEING dead).
No, I get the point Brand is trying to make.

Technically, States and Psyche don't die, if we're going purely off a level basis as a timelines (which I hate, but whatever), until the player gets to the right level for the final parts of SSA1.

HOWEVER, they got removed wholesale from the game, from level 1. Despite all the problems that causes. It's as bad as saying "Well, Imperious dies at X point, so let's remove him from all the other stuff too!" i.e. it makes no sense.
Removing States and Psyche as they did also makes no sense.

Not only does it screw up the timeline, but why on earth should new players care about a character they now get no connection with whatsoever. You might as well kill of Faceless Cape #359.

Basically, the whole thing is one giant cludge, and I'm personally doing my best to just forget about the whole thing, before my inner editor commits suicide on a pencil.

Let's be honest, here, States and Psyche were culled out because they were the last vestiges of Jack's presence in the Game. We KNOW that. The Devs know that. Just no one is admitting that's the whole reason behind this godawful cludge.

but there are no other comic book staple powersets - there are just iconic characters that have powers

Uh....no? No, not true at all. All current EATs say "Sorry, you're wrong." Assault sets with blasts and melee? Check. Armours? Check. Not weak? Double check.

Argument: INVALID. And has been since for ever (or at least since EATs came out)
