  1. Just a thought, but seeing as how villain PPPs are tied in to 'Prime Earth' patrons, does this mean we should be seeing something similar for Praetorian native characters?

Since GR does leave a big hole for Praetorian villains to have their EPPs lore-wise, I can see this as a good opportunity to introducing new PPPs tied to loyalists and resistance so even heroes can get PPPs, and maybe a few 'generic' pools like the APPs for villains.

I noticed you've submitted your vote, so I'm not challenging that, but if you'd care to give my arc set another go, read the notes I put in the arc description for recommended play level settings. Thanks. I don't know what sort of toon you brought to this, but I playtested this with a blaster, controller, scrapper and mastermind, and had a good fight but no stress in the fight. (Later on was a bit more challenging though, so be warned.)
I'm not sure what you're referring to. The only thing noting difficulty in the arc description is that it is 'designed for play by heroes of Security Level 50', and nothing specific about difficulty adjustments.

I played this arc on even level, single hero, with bosses, and just had a look again this time as -1 level, single hero, no bosses. Gin'zago is still spawning as an EB, and he's accompanied by a group of bosses now. It's better, but as an introductory mission I'm finding this very discouraging for what else the arc is going to throw at me.
  3. Best DO Arc:

    1st:
    Ctrl + Alt + Reset #137561 @Bubbawheat
    Great concept, great execution.

    2nd:
The Invasion of the Bikini-Clad Samurai Vampiresses from Outer Space! #61013 @Aliana Blue

    Best Short Arc:

    1st:
Forget the Rose, Send Me the Thorns #8925 @Hydrophidian
    Sharp, funny writing.

    2nd:
    Becky's Revenge #60197 @New Age Ronin
What can I say? Becky > Fusionette

    Best Multi-Part Arc:

    1st:
    The Consequences of War Part 1 #227331 and Part 2 #241496 @Dalghryn
    Great war torn atmosphere.

    2nd:
    The Audition Part 1 #221240 and Part 2 #221241 @MRCaptainMan
I know I gave this arc a bit of a chewing out in my review thread, but I would still rate this higher that the other two nominees.

And full disclosure time again: I never completed Monster Hop for the Short Arc category, because I was unable to locate two of the objectives. I ran back and forth across the map several times before deciding to call it quits (not that this is really the author's fault mind). It was only a single mission arc, so I felt what content I did see was enough for me to make a judgment.

I didn't complete Turg Fiction for the Multi-Part Arc for reasons stated previously, but I also did not complete The Lost Choir either. I saw the biblical motifs, felt the 'EPIC' vibe, and thought "this isn't really going to be my cup of tea". After finding out the first mission has me hunting objectives on the ruined Atlas map, and getting promptly curb stomped by an Extreme EB (originally an AV iirc), I thought to myself "yep, this definitely isn't my cup of tea" and called it quits.

Anyway, that's me done voting for all the categories. A big thanks to Bubba and the judges for organising this comp, it's been a blast going through so many awesome arcs I have never played, and good luck to all the nominees.
  4. I've never seen this mod in question, let alone in action, but to be fair Onion does have an active Onion Chat channel for non badge related discussions.
  5. Best Comedy Arc:

    1st:
    Freakshow U #189073 @Lethal Guardian
A great one-shot mission that is filled with detail.

    2nd:
Verner von Grun's Extraordinary Extradimensional Excursions #115174 @Igor Blimey
An over the top maniacal characterisation of one of Rogue's most loved mad scientists.

I would also like to add that all the comedy arcs were all well done.
  6. It's the first time I've heard of this.
  7. Best Serious Arc:

    1st:
    Karmic Exchange #47550 @Braxzana
This story is a great example of tragic figures done right. The characters suffer tragedy without treading into melodrama, they are both strong and weak at the same time, and even a rather minor character to this story resonates with these characteristics. The characters are, very human.

    2nd:
    The Storyteller: Sabrina's Tale #1237 @Redbone1
An interesting use of MA to tell a story, and a tragedy that hits the right elements such as fighting fate, and the not completely downer ending.

Oh and in the interest of full disclosure, I didn't complete Turg Fiction (making it so far the only arc I haven't completed before voting). An extreme Necro/Dark EB (who would have been an AV according to the description) guarded by a small army of extreme Necro/Dark EBs on the very first mish? The speed of my death was rivalled only by the speed of me clicking the quit button after reviving in the medibay.
  8. Gack, I just had an idea for a true horror arc that I'm itching to write, but on the day of Halloween no less. I wonder if people will be sick of horror arcs for now?

    Oh, and happy Halloween everyone.
  9. Sounds interesting, I'm going to have to try and fit this one into my play schedule.

It would be interesting to see what the official contest and the player contest did for arcs with few plays.
Mercytown was a relatively unknown arc, at least outside of the EU community. I think I may have gotten a dozen new plays since having it nominated for player's choice.

Edit: I've also received a few more comments, which I am especially happy with.
  11. Sorry for the very late reply, the MA comp has kept me busy. :/

Played it solo on my lvl 30 Dom as +1 lvl w/ bosses and the difficulty seems fine.

You might want to look at reworking your objective placements, I found all the targets in the 1st mish on the first floor, all the glowies in the 2nd mish before reaching the end (but I did check the back just in case and noticed the optional boss), and also I ran past the bomb placement (pre-clickable) before I met Collins, I think it would be better if you put the bomb ahead of the map from Collins.

I found it odd that the Crey hostages you capture in mish 1 acted well, non-dastardly immoral as they are usually portrayed. Granted it should be expected that Crey should have a few legitimate front companies, or at least a few honest employees who just don't know they work for an evil company, but I think it would be good if you could mention that these are honest employees in order to make their dialogue more believable.

Oh, and it isn't complete! I noticed no souvenir either, so I'm not sure if you're planning to add more afterward onto the arc or if you're going to make this a two-parter. I would try and stick to a single arc would be my advice, as I notice interest to play the 2nd part of any multi-part arc to significantly drop in plays no matter how good.

That said, you wrote asking for constructive criticism, and that's all I can come up with really. The arc is on the whole very well written and funny, with nice touches such as Longbow actually using civvies for their recon and the villain's initiative for bomb planting and general villainy. There are also the interesting hints of their being something much darker beneath the surface, so I for one will at least be looking forward to seeing how this ends.

Edit: Oh, and I loved the nerve stapling reference.
  12. Best Epic:

    1st:
    The Most Important Thing
No surprises here, I've already gone at length in my review thread as to why I think this arc is good.

    2nd:
    One Million Eyes
A great retelling of a story from a different perspective, wrapped around great humour and a so accurate representation of a web community.

Edit:The ID for A Warrior's Journey: the Flower Knight Task Force on the first post is wrong btw Bubba, the last digit should be a '4'.

I am shocked that Dalghryn found it necessary to change his vote because of peer pressure.
I agree with your points Spade. If anything I'm a bit surprised that this thing is getting so much talk, when there is also the issue that not everyone voting has necessarily played all the arcs in the category they are voting in.

Edit: I originally wasn't going to bring this up because what faults there are, this comp is still a very awesome idea, and I've been having fun going through all the arcs. But like I said, I only bring this up now because I think a lot of people are being too hung up one aspect of the rules.

It really did tarnish that person's win for a lot of people. In the end, I was fine with not winning and knew I preferred that over winning with people thinking it was not a honorable win. Of course, this is just my personal feelings.
I am unsure on the context of your past competition, so I'm not sure I can comment on that much. I'm guessing there was some kind of unspoken agreement not to vote for yourself, though it may not have been clear to the person who won, or maybe she just though 'screw it' and voted for herself anyway, either way if it was considered bad form it should have been outlined in the rules.

As an example on context, I'm really not going to look down on a presidential candidate that votes for himself, if anything I expect that he should do nothing but vote for himself. That example may not be applicable to your competition or even this one, but it's an example that voting for yourself shouldn't be universally regarded as good or bad no matter what.

This is a great arc recommended particularly for low-level villain characters that want to avoid the usual Mercy grind.
Wow, I'm glad you liked it.

I think I know which briefs you're talking about on the terse comment, when I can get some time I'll have a look at adding a bit more info in those boxes.

Oh dear, seems like I opened a can of worms by being the first one to actually vote for myself.

Voting for yourself isn't cheesy or something to be embarrassed about if it's allowed. I can't speak for others, but I voted for myself not just because I would like to win (and sure as darn tootin' I would), but also because I am confident that my arc is at the point where it has a very real shot at winning.

I was going to make some cracks saying 'we have staff?' or maybe a few 'lolEU' jokes, but so as to not bring this thread down I think I'll just follow Gunbunny's cue and just say make the next comp in-game please (and if you really want to host one at Herocon, then just make it the 'Herocon Awards' or something).
  20. Best SO:

    1st:
    Escalation #6143 @FemFury

    2nd
    Astoria in D Minor # 41565 @The Cheshire Cat
  21. I've just recently updated my Mercytown arc, It would be great to hear what you think about it.

Mercytown: The One With All The Fish
    Arc ID: 6017
  22. My vote for best use of mechanics are below. I found this category to be pretty hard to decide, as all the arcs have some pretty cool tricks as well as just being good arcs in general.

The Next War on Drugs #245042 @arachnodragon
The Beating Heart of Astoria: A Play in Five Acts #170547 @The Cheshire Cat
  23. Indeed, and grats to all the winners.

Awesome, I'm going to jump straight ahead to this category as it's the one I've been waiting for. Also, I've played Constantinaple's Jones' Family Secret before and it's a neat and short arc I'd recommend people to try out to see what they can do with chained missions.
  25. Just finished going through the TO category. My votes are:

First: Mercytown, the one with the fish #6017 @Tangler
Second: 15+ Minute Tutorial - Knowledge is Power: Architect Entertainment #28470 @Paula
