I'm a fairly casual gamer who doesn't consider PvP an abomination
[/ QUOTE ]
You deserve a medal then around here
Problem is no matter with the current PvP design if u are a solo player you cant possibly enjoy PvP that much.Because teams prevail in zones.
This is why Battle Arenas in WoW worked. They gave chance to solo players enjoy PvP too.You didnt need a team you could get one for sure. -
[ QUOTE ]
Travel pools aside I'd say Presence is seriously underrated. Not many people slot for Fear resistance.
[/ QUOTE ]
Thats because no self respected squishie enters PvP zone without breakfrees. -
[ QUOTE ]
Not everyone is like that though.
[/ QUOTE ]
I agree with you that not everyone is like this.Still the majority that comes into this game in my opinion is comic fans and people looking for the immersion of the comic book. Not so much attention is paid to game mechanics, end game etc etc and this is the reason why development has been down a different road so far and i am not implying its a bad one(warning: this is my opinion so dont have a stroke some of you).
About PvP balance. This game is balanced totally around team.1vs1 is a total rock paper scissor situation.Even the most uber build has weaknesses in 1vs1. Biggest problem or difference if you like in this game is the extremely high mobility. Its funny but the best part of the game is also what renders 4 AT's and all their combos as "non viable" in PvP in terms of dps.Unfortunately the developers have yet to recognise this or havent been able to workaround this.
As far as builds goes,in zonal pvp where things are totally casual even SO builds have no problem. Now as far as the uber builds goes like in every game some people are more dedicated and less casual about being good in some aspects of the game.Removing this ability to excel in the competitive aspect of the game is the same as killing this part of the game. There is no workaround. Some people will always have better, stronger more uber builds because thats all they do.PvP.
As far as the event and how fun it was i have to agree it was loads of fun. I wish they had capitalized on that and had given initiatives to step into the PvP zones.Or even adjust the rewards to the current state of the game. Its unacceptable that the biggest PvP rewards are 1 badge for maxing out your pvp reputation and SO's from sirens call.

For me making characters in CoX is all about making characters that I'd like to read about in comics, with comic book style builds and powers, but they don't stand a chance against the munchkinised FTW builds that dominate PvP here.
[/ QUOTE ]
And this right here is the essence. There is no way to approach PvP from an immersion point of view unless placed on a more large scale view that will balance the uber builds through sheer numbers.Open up Faction vs Faction in CoH,add global war and rewards for it.They tried to take PvP to that direction with RV. Was a good idea stupidly implemented. Who cares about pillboxes and PvE in a PvP zone. Create a zone that has a world defining item and make the zone trigger an event every day for 2-3 hours allowing a fight over control of the item/zone and a worldwide message that the event is beginning. The faction that gets control of the zone enjoys for the rest of the day +inf or +prestige or something worth while for the faction.Tested recipe that worked in RF and a lot other games that evolved around PvP.Made it massive and loads of fun.
Anyway i ramble on and literally lost the plot
PvP is fun in this game and in a good way in terms of balance.Problem is no rewards,no inititative to PvP and no dedicated PvP developer like most other games.
EDIT: Would also love to see broadcast/local between heroes and villains in PvP zones locked off. -

b)majority of game population in this game are comic fans and people that come to this game for the immersion hence first they love spandex and then anything else about the game.
[/ QUOTE ]
But the idea of being able to have Heroes and Villains fighting each other is stil attractive to a lot of comic fans, I think.
[/ QUOTE ]
Its obviously fine as long as the opposite team is not also human controlled.
Dont fool yourself in the past the amount of people considering PvP an abomination due to their previous experiences is pretty big. Despite the fact that CoH is far friendlier in terms of PKing, ganking, low level ganking and so on. -
Good rules nice prizes.Good luck to everyone participating.
I am also a bit concerned about the 1 fight only since this will drag the event pretty longterm and i think would be nice to consider have more matches during weekends. -
I am running CoX in a triple monitor setup with 2 GFX cards.
Never had a problem.I have a feeling the issue could be with the use of 2 different GFX cards on vista. Not 100% sure tho. -
Esoteric builds?Demenented hoppers?
[ QUOTE ]
And if you disagree what would you suggestetions to improve the interest in PvP beyond those 'hardcore' fans.
[/ QUOTE ]
Next time read the PvP forum cause there are plenty threads about this.
The reason PvP is not so popular in this game is because a)was never advertised depite the original design had PvP in it
b)majority of game population in this game are comic fans and people that come to this game for the immersion hence first they love spandex and then anything else about the game.
c)Casual gamers who consider PvP an abomination.
[ QUOTE ]
The exclusion of all but about 20% (random estimate)
[/ QUOTE ]
That is very random and totally inaccurate.Besides in all games that inclue pvp you will never EVER find a 100% pvp viability of archetypes for PvP so kina pointless asking about this.(with the exception of Warhammer but thats for different reasons) -
[ QUOTE ]
Peronsally never understood the desire of two travel pools. But then again i don't pvp.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well in PvP mobility is everythingCombination of SS/SJ/CJ/hurdle is essential to have unsupressed movement at all times. You know when you fire a power and after that cant jump around for a bit or run away. This in PvP is bad
-
[ QUOTE ]
Everyone seems to go for +Recharge set bonuses!)
[/ QUOTE ]
Personally i avoid ranged damage sets with +recharge like the plague. You can easily get +recharge from other sources and decimations are as rare as bigfoot.
I like the +range combo for non /nrg sets.Makes the lack of Boost Range more easy to cope with -
Ok just to clarify.Knowing KS is a pvper my impression is his question is more on the PvP side hence my post.PvE wise i am choosing to pass on answering
-
[ QUOTE ]
Surely the 'Scrappers' or 'PvP' sections would be more appropriate for this thread. I fail to see what about the OP is a 'guide'.

A guide/build to building a PvP regen scrapper? -
It could also be due to quality of cables connecting sub the soundsystem main panel or from soundsystem panel to soundcard and so on.
If its a good sound system try checking how good quality the cables are and if its worth replace them with better quality. -
This kind of slotting is good enough for new players, casuals and people that want to make cheap builds but is by far inferior from perfect possible slottings even if you look the stats alone.
Best possible slotting in blasts is usually a mix of Devastations+Thunderstrikes due to the best combination of bonuses + stats.
Devastations: Acc/dmg,Dmg/rech,Acc/dmg/rech,Acc/dmg/end/rech
Thunderstrikes: Acc/Dmg,Acc/Dmg/Recharge
This provides with a high hp regen bonus,+hp,+dmg,+recovery
The stats skyrocket to an awsome 101% dmg 97% acc 85% recharge 18% end discount
You can switch about dmg/rech with dmg/end and thunderstrike acc/dmg with acc/dmg/end to play around with the balance between end discount and recharge based on your needs however perfect blasting relies uppon recharge for increased DPS considering its all about spike and fast dps and sustainable dmg is not a target with blasters.
Frankenslotting is ok with low budget builds or for new players and casual gaming but for "Perfect" it doesnt even come close.
I am leaving epic slotting out of this since its a bit up to personal choice when it comes to epics.
PS: Unless KS you are refering to non bonus slotting of course intended for featherweight blasting. Then prolly Frankeslotting could be useful. -
[ QUOTE ]
Never said it was better because he's allready really pushing it.
[/ QUOTE ]
Ok the reason i ask is cause didnt figure if there was something different or improving a lot uppon the previous build -
Afaik 177.83 WHQL is the driver you wanna run at the moment thats it for 8 series.
My only issue that is still not resolved is that anyone using more than 2 monitor setups via hardware (Triplehead2go etc etc) use the drivers with caution i still got some BSD's with those drivers although i managed to work around it on my rig for now. -
This build is weird and overall lacking.I mean you dont maximize regen potential, some of the slotting is weird because you could yield some nice bonuses but you go for common IO's. You throw in some unique like Numina but totally pass on adding regen tissue unique which is after all a Regen scrapper bread and butter IO.
Pass on opportunity to weild +hp and +recovery too.Could do better.
PS: Hasten at 35 is a no no.For a set that relies on damage mitigation via clickeys i would expect to see hasten at least at level 6 or 10.
PS 2: Missing a slot in scorch?
PS 3: Focused accuracy slotting is overkill imho when you could have gone for 3 HO's or 3 To hit/end IO's and save 3 slots to better slot the rest of the powers and yield some nice bonuses. -
[ QUOTE ]
u only slot thaw for res cos of the bonuses :P
[/ QUOTE ]
NO REALLY????? AND I SLOTTED IT FOR GIVING EPIC RES WITH THAW LIEK!WOW!! -
The only place melee AT's are obsolete is PvP and thats down to the unique movement type this game has.
Tanks,Brutes,Stalkers,Scrappers are lowest of the low in the PvP food chain due to lack of proper powers that close distances fast and cause effects that give chance to use melee with the exception of TP Foe which is useless anyway because it has no lockdown effect.
Considering that games that do not have such unique movement in PvP combat, feature such powers for melee classes (Rush blows,Harpoons etc etc) CoH lacking such powers is just another sideffect of PvP being added later in game.
In PvE they aint obsolete and this kind of weakness doesnt really show due to low level of difficulty. (Because you know AV's dont hop like easter bunnies or superspeed like 99% of softies do in PvP nowdays). -
Can you please justify the adjustments you made?
You give up on +hp,+res and acc in powers for 20% regen which aint important anyway in pvp and some fractions of a second in recharge. -
Ok issues witht he build:
- Very few hit points.PvP is all about hp first. You need a lot more +hp sets which in this build are easy to get and really cheap through titanium coatings in shields.
- Movement. The build REALLY doesnt suit buffer.Fly and teleport are major no no's for pvp for buffers. You need quick mobility and unsupressed movement due to healing/buffing and to be able keep up with team.
SS+SJ+CJ+Hurdle is the ONLY way for buffers/healers.
- Forge is underslotted for what it offers. Its like slotting fortitude only with sets.
- Weave and any kind of defense is awful for pvp with the bright exception of VEATS's. Lose weave and some 6 slotting i see for gaining defense.
- Lose tough too is a waste with high hp and heals + epic shield.
- Recall friend has no point really in PvP zones.
- Thaw needs slotting imho for some res at least i slot it that way.
- Leadership pool is a must + vengeance uber sweet.
- Phantom army is great for pvp hinders noob targeters taking them ages to spike called targets.
Thats all i can think for now.Good luck with the build. -
[ QUOTE ]
I personally would perfer to having to keep guessing, to have unpredictability in my pvp, isnt that why we play against players?
[/ QUOTE ]
Unpredictability comes from personal playstyle and humain AI and how everyone put their powers to use and not procs.
5% chance for kb certainly wont balance anything. There will always be sets that are favoured in every game that is based on dice rolls rather than twitching. There are better way to align sets if there is such need.
[ QUOTE ]
in most other pvp games KB is a highly prized commodity and it should be the same here
[/ QUOTE ]
KB in pvp in other MMO's certainly aint highly prized. Now if you change KB with knockdown its totally different and is mostly used by melee classes usually.
Warhammer,WoW,Tabula Rasa,Guild Wars certainly highly favour knockdown but not KB which is only majorly used in PvE encounters and a few PvP powers.
The main reason is that in no other game you can close distances after knockback as fast as you can in this game. -

yes I am going to rip your head off.

Yes.And then the big tattoo guy in your cell sitting next to you looking at you like a fresh turkish delight will rip something else.Have fun with that, cause thats what real men that rip heads off do -
