Basically, I'm after a solid team to help me gain three levels in seven days.
<_<
I'm off to Florida in a week, and really want Eressos at a decent place I can "leave" her, as I'll be away for a fortnight.
I would put in some serious grinding by myself, but I've been doing that a great deal already so the experience is fairly lonely, heh. Eressos is a level 42 Merc/Traps/Scorpion Mastermind for whatever it's worth.
Just a shout out to see if anyone's up for forming a temporary team; although some might call it power levelling. -
Servants of Recluse!
Too long we have been biding our time; too long we have been holding ourselves back, keeping us away from our true purpose! As Destined Ones we are to rise above this, we are to go beyond what anyone could possibly imagine; to make the world stand up and take note of what we are capable of! To this end I ask - no, demand - you follow me into Paragon itself; to ravish the hypocritical forces of Longbow, to sweep aside their puny law enforcement....to draw out their champion, "Statesman".
He is powerful - true! - but Recluse is watching us, his Patrons are blessing us. Arachnos itself has cast its gaze upon our every action; to humiliate the Freedom Phalanx in their own city would be a great boon. With the legendary Heroes fallen in our stride, what would there be to stop us?!
Prove yourself to Him, or else be forgotten.
OOC:
OK, apologies for the rather incoherent IC rant there.
This idea has been on my mind for a while, and I've finally decided to commit it to the forum.
With few people being above level 45 at the moment (thus very few being legible for Recluse's Strikeforce), I was thinking of putting together an eight man, maximum difficulty group for a Mayhem Mission in Grandville; it would be done completely In Character, and the end goal is - as mentioned above - to humiliate the Freedom Phalanx and their allies.
Depending how many people take to this - and how the event itself goes - I might very well extend things with a small storyline in the future, that should hopefully encourage some Hero/Villain cross-faction Roleplay.
As it stands, I don't have a specific date in mind for the event, but if enough people respond we can easily come up with a time suitable for everyone involved.
One thing to bear in mind: as long as you're willing to make this enjoyable for others, I do not care what level you are. I have TP friend for a reason, and we can easily lackey people that are low in level. My main motivation for this isn't to carry things off with the ultimate skill and power, it's to see eight villains screeching and whooping as they tear apart Paragon.
Finally, in the unlikely event more than seven others sign up, we can easily run the groups alongside one another, or make multiple runs with different members.
Hopefully I've made sense.
/EDIT - Just to mention something Augury pointed out: the AV/Hero buff. Yes, I'm well aware of it, but I do honestly think we could defeat the Hero even if the change isn't removed. If you're not comfortable with debt, however, then it's probably not a good idea for you to sign on. -
Mercenaries also have superjump now.
Bloody useful, I tell you. -
I'm guessing that, as a rule, they're not disliked or prejuced against....however, in CoX we're talking about mutants that can fling lightning, tear buildings out of the ground and breath fire.
I don't think it's the mutant his/herself people are predjuced against; it's rather how the powers are manifested (The GIFT mutant, for example, has the power to....solve any math problem in his head. Not very threatening to the common civilian).
Mutants in the villain groups can't do a lot of good for the public image though. -
Unless you're going to be running a lot of toggles - or using a lot of attacks - you can safely avoid getting Stamina. Likewise, it's not worth investing in the defense pools if you ask me; usually when you get into direct combat, you tend to be dead anyway.
Assault and Tactics are very useful; slot three ToHit Buffs in it, and you can get away with one Acc Enhancement in your second and third tier units.
The medicine pool would be a wise choice; Aid Other is invaluable and once slotted can easily bring a Hench back from the brink of deat-....defeat.
Finally....Serum. Don't ever get this or I will slap you. Recharge is way too long for the benefit it gives. -

Just wondering if it handles decently; first time I've made a Corrupter, heh.
Mostly worried about attack slotting; I want to do damage, but not sure if I've left the attacks too late. -
Level 40 Mercs/Traps Mastermind here; absolutely, positively adore them.
While they're certainly "bland" in looks - especially compared to players - I've found them to be surprisingly durable and effective in combat. The Spec-Ops disrupt the enemy alpha strikes nicely, the Commando is a one-man army...etc, etc.
Sure, they're not OMGPWN AoE damage, but when they all let rip in a narrow cone it's sheer bliss seeing the HP of your target(s) fade away to nothing in three seconds.
With I7, the bullet casings left on the ground are also orgasmic, too.

I have an interesting thought. What about your villians? As i remeber recluse said that we are not aloud to kill with out permission, but at the same time he believes in darwin's law, and it even says sometimes your off to kill some one. SO my question is do you obey recluse, disobey and use darwins law for defences or just kill for the hell of it, or are you a noble villain who resosrted to crime for what you believe is the greater good?. And also do you leave a path of destruction or are you a perfectionist and believe the less mess the better?
[/ QUOTE ]
I believe you might be misunderstanding Recluse; while survival of the fittest is his doctrine, if his own people start slaughtering each other - effectively slowing down, or even scuppering - his plans then there's a problem.
A few missions tell you not to cause permanent harm to the personnel or facilities, after all (although, that said, there's also quite a few where you're meant to murder everyone so that can't yap).
As for the other part, well....
Eressos has never been subtle. Ever. Feeling betrayed by her former team in Paragon has left her pretty spiteful and vindictive; collateral damage caused by her troops is considered perfectly acceptable....after all, how can you blame her for what her men do?
That said, she has something of a vague honour code; children are a no-go, as well as pregnant women (although the latter is difficult for her to really follow, for fairly obvious reasons). Looting, pillaging is also acceptable; anything to fund her movements.
On the other hand, she has incredible loyalty to those who have helped her in the past. One reason she's so fanatical towards Recluse; plucked from the Zig - away from the city she honestly believes turned on her for no fault of her own - and let loose with power and prestige. I like to think she's actually faithful to who she serves, rather than being nothing more than a power hungry lunatic.
/EDIT - I just realised....I think Eres' rather casual approach to violence is because - frankly - she's never been directly responsible for it. Always ordering someone else to do the job; to plant the explosives, to slay the Warden, to destroy the Longbow base. Sure, she contributes with her devices, but whatever death has been dealt in "her name" - so to speak - wasn't close up, it never felt personal.
Give her a knife with someone at her mercy and she'd probably freeze up, without the faintest clue what to do. -
Level 32 upgrade recharge reduction = BEST ISSUE EVER.
Time spent preparing/recovering the troops has gone down to less than a minute from over five.
o.o -
Oooooh, good points actually. I didn't realise that; after re-reading the posts here and Augury poking me, I noticed the lack of crowd control.
o.o
Hmmm. Alrightey. Thugs, keep your damage. Just don't come crying to me when that Warwolf gets close and slaughters you.
<_<
>_> -
This is probably irrational fear on my part, but am I the only one a little afraid Thugs will make the Mercenaries redundant? In my - admittedly small - experience with the set, Thugs seem to have more constant, consistent rates of damage and I don't see it getting any worse as time goes on.
Factor in the Fury of the third tier Brute, and....eh. Well.
Somebody comfort me? I don't want my Mercs losing their job to some Punks. -
Me and Augury LOL'ed. Me more than her, but she can control herself.
We'll try to come up with a decent question. Maybe. Probably.
Keep it up, at any rate. o.o
/EDIT - She also finds it hilarious how you're in agonising pain due to putting your back out. I must stress I don't encourage her behaviour. In the slightest. -
Hmm, good points; I hadn't considered things in that way before.
I guess at the end of it, the devices support her ability to lead and command, rather than being what gives her that skill to begin with.
Luckily, with the silly amount of cash and theft in CoV, I'm covered when it comes to justifying how she gets things. -
Alrightey, as I'm off to Amsterdam for a couple weeks - and my CoX time will be limited as a result - I've decided to spend a bit of the spare time I'll have thinking on my character concept.
I have an Elec/Elec Brute planned, as well as a Thugs MM, but with my Merc/Traps MM hitting level 40 and Grandville....well, I'm focusing on her.
My problem? Looking back at her, I think she's more of a Tech Villain than a Natural.
From the Traps she uses, to teleportation, the assault rifle and planned PPP (Originally Mako, but I've recently planned for Black Scorpion/Ernesto instead), almost everything relies on a device of some sort. Sure, her ability to lead (i.e. Stand the hell back and let everyone else take the heat) and limited martial arts skills are "natural", but that's about it.
Re-rolling for the sake of changing origin isn't something I'm prepared to do with over two-hundred and thirty hours invested into her, so....can anyone help rationalise the Natural origin?

After a massive level of grinding on Saturday, I was able to get the last 1.5 million experience points needed to hit level 40. Looking at my current build, it just feels a bit...messy, really. Powers I don't use that often (Serum? What the hell was I thinking?), along with other stuff I'm not happy with (Superspeed, for example).
So I've done some thinking, and I feel I've hit quite a "neat" build with this offering.
Let me point this out: I am happy with the current selection of powers. I may switch TP Friend for TP Foe, and the Fitness pool is mainly to get over the frustrating level of Endurance drain I've been coming across lately, as well as preparation for Captain Mako's PPPs.
So, for the most part, I'm interested in hearing views how I've slotted stuff. I do hope to dip into PvP a fair bit more than I used to, if that changes anything.
If you can make a fantastic argument for dropping/changing powers, however, please tell me anyway. It'd be great to see what other Masterminds have to say. -
Ah, so it was a temp power; thought I was going nuts.
Anyway, thanks for the input Filth. I've done some thinking though, and I think I will stick with the Mastermind for now. With the Bodyguard function coming in I7, that will help my defense issues. I've also put together a new build as of late (just need a respec for it).
While it lacks the concealment pool, it has Teleportation (at the moment I'm thinking TP friend, but this might very well change to TP foe), medicine as well as leadership; as far as the powersets go, Mercs/Traps have gotten me this far.
Broke my heart to ditch the little Drone fellas, but I do feel it'll be a powerful build in PvE and achieve a fair bit of success in PvP once Bodyguard is in.
Just a case of waiting until then, and getting some practise in. -
And it got my heart racing. ^^;;
It was Warburg, and I was happily hunting Rogue Arachnos when....POW! An MA/Regen Scrapper by the name of "Arle" sends me flying over a couple of walls with a single kick. Cue about five minutes of frantically running around, avoiding her as my minions wittle away at her health; after a lot of desperate trap planting, use of web grenade and Aid Other - when she turned her attention to the Commando - I finally dropped her.
Only to get obliterated by a hold and blapping combo from an Elec/Elec Blaster that caught me as I made a retreat.
Suffice to say, the experience - along with the generally pleasant atmosphere in PvP zones (compared with some "other" MMORPGs...) - has awakened something in me. I wasn't overly interested in PvP before, just going to the zones for badges and infamy farming, but now....well, I'm kinda eager to roll my sleeves up and dive in.
Unfortunately, my level 40 Villain is a Mastermind and as proven...once I get caught, it's over.
Anyone out there have a little advice as to what AT/Powerset combo might be worth considering if I want to get into PvP a bit more? I have both CoH and CoX, so all the ATs are open. I doubt I'll get anything done for a couple weeks though; spending a fortnight away come Tuesday, so my CoX time will be limited.
Any advice will be appreciated.
Quick final question, though: A couple of times I saw Arle pull out what looked like a Bow. Is there a temp power the Heroes can buy which gives them the weapon? Or was I just seeing things? -
[ QUOTE ]
To be honest, I'm not sure about that. One of the definitions of 'whining' is "To complain or protest in a childish fashion." To me, complaining about a set which hasn't yet been played, has no hard data and will be used in a part of the game that has not been seen yet is a bit childish don't you think?
[/ QUOTE ]
By that line of reasoning, it's incredibly hypocritical to defend something that hasn't been played, has no hard data and will be used in an area of the game that has yet to be seen. -
Keep it up, oh Ben of funny.
It keeps you busy at the very least, and gets a laugh from most. -
[ QUOTE ]
And that dialogue was scripted and well rehearsed before recording...heh. I actually trimmed that down from three minutes to one.
[/ QUOTE ]
Still, keep at it. Just need decent questions to be asked, really.
That was the best I could come up with so late at night.
o.o -
I signed a contract completely sweeping aside any and all responsibility I'd have (although I still get royalties)!
Very swish camera work, and...um...dialogue.
You could easily make this a regular thing, heh. But no, no Augury for you.
>:| -
If the Boss/Lackey is moving out of range enough times for it to be that inhibiting, surely the problem is with the partnership and not the game?
That said, would be nice if they could dynamically change the level of the pets, but I can't see this happening. -

Alright....whew. I know there are still gaps in my Endurance recovery, but I feel I could plug those with inspirations and the like. Felt kind of pressured to fit in the powers, so taking Aid Self at level 49 is more an act of desperation than anything else.
As more and more slots came in, I started adding sleep and confusion duration enhancements; better they do something rather than sit with brawl or the like.
Thanks for the input - especially you, CyberCel - as the better I do now means less wasted respecs further on down the line. -
Ok, I've tweaked things - using the short forum export, hehe - and here it is.

I changed to Hasten/Superspeed because after some thinking, Hasten would do a lot more good than Combat Jumping in the long run. The enhancements there represent what I have in mind for a final build; I'll likely have more accuracies in there until I get Tactics, for example.
On that note, however, how viable would this build be in PvP? While it won't be a huge part of the character, I do feel my duoing with the Scrapper will hold up fairly "well". -
This is my planned build; so far, I've gotten her to level 8.

Now then a few things....
Despite having Tactics, I still have the "extra" accuracy SOs there to make certain my mezzes and attacks hit. The leadership skills are mainly there to help the person/persons I'll be teaming with, rather than myself.
I'm unsure on the travel power....thinking of getting Hasten and Superspeed; the Hasten will help me chuck out serious crowd control when needed, although it does mean the loss of my favourite travel power.
Stamina I'm really unsure of...endurance use doesn't seem too shabby at my current level, but I know that won't last.
Finally, I'm primarily duoing with an MA/SR Scrapper; I seriously doubt I'll be soloing for any real length of time, heh.
Any feedback on this build would be absolutely wonderful; though I feel drawn to the archetype, I'm largely piecing it together on gut instinct.
