And it got my heart racing. ^^;;

It was Warburg, and I was happily hunting Rogue Arachnos when....POW! An MA/Regen Scrapper by the name of "Arle" sends me flying over a couple of walls with a single kick. Cue about five minutes of frantically running around, avoiding her as my minions wittle away at her health; after a lot of desperate trap planting, use of web grenade and Aid Other - when she turned her attention to the Commando - I finally dropped her.

Only to get obliterated by a hold and blapping combo from an Elec/Elec Blaster that caught me as I made a retreat.

Suffice to say, the experience - along with the generally pleasant atmosphere in PvP zones (compared with some "other" MMORPGs...) - has awakened something in me. I wasn't overly interested in PvP before, just going to the zones for badges and infamy farming, but now....well, I'm kinda eager to roll my sleeves up and dive in.

Unfortunately, my level 40 Villain is a Mastermind and as proven...once I get caught, it's over.

Anyone out there have a little advice as to what AT/Powerset combo might be worth considering if I want to get into PvP a bit more? I have both CoH and CoX, so all the ATs are open. I doubt I'll get anything done for a couple weeks though; spending a fortnight away come Tuesday, so my CoX time will be limited.

Any advice will be appreciated.

Quick final question, though: A couple of times I saw Arle pull out what looked like a Bow. Is there a temp power the Heroes can buy which gives them the weapon? Or was I just seeing things?

Never seen anyone with a temp power bow, maybe someone else can shed a light on that.

Welcome to pvp.

Glad to know someone else has caught the bug, sounds like you did well. The first thing I'd say is as far as ATs & Powersets goes, a lot is determined by the player, their strategy and tactics so that almost any AT and powers can be playable and enjoyable in PvP; it's always a pleasant surprise when I come across a hero or villain with an original PvP toon since they tend to be less obsessed by their burst-damage-kill-potential and just more interesting to play with or against.

Since you already have Mercs/Traps the first thing I would do is consider how you might tweak your build to make it work better in PvP, and this is generally down to powerpool choices and slotting. I would say you would benefit from going down the Concealment path, Medicine and Teleport (if you haven't done already). This would allow you to hide better, support yourself and your dudes, and TP heroes into your traps. If you want to make a new toon, I would say the biggest need for Villains are support toons played by good players, which generally means Corruptors with Sonic, Thermal or Kinetics. MMs can be effective though, there's a great Merc/Traps "Colonel Sanderz" (I think) who plays in Siren's.

Ah, so it was a temp power; thought I was going nuts.

Anyway, thanks for the input Filth. I've done some thinking though, and I think I will stick with the Mastermind for now. With the Bodyguard function coming in I7, that will help my defense issues. I've also put together a new build as of late (just need a respec for it).

While it lacks the concealment pool, it has Teleportation (at the moment I'm thinking TP friend, but this might very well change to TP foe), medicine as well as leadership; as far as the powersets go, Mercs/Traps have gotten me this far.

Broke my heart to ditch the little Drone fellas, but I do feel it'll be a powerful build in PvE and achieve a fair bit of success in PvP once Bodyguard is in.

Just a case of waiting until then, and getting some practise in.

Actually I think he is Colonel Sandurz, but yeah - a good PvP-tuned mastermind can be tons of fun, especially with a good team. Solo Masterminds tend to be the favored snacks of anything with burst damage - they go down more easilly than anything else on the field.

When thinking of power pools: Grant Invisibility, Invisibility and Phase Shift are all neat stuff that you'll get from Concealment that can help you survive in PvP (as long as you don't mind the broadcast whine over you using Hyper Phase temp power when you're actually using the real thing).

Also you might think about having more than one movement method around the field - TP+Flight and Superjump+Superspeed are two very popular combos (latter having Acrobatics as an added plus to give you that Hold resistance that you'll be screaming for when you once again get held).

In a Team PvP, depending on your team, you might be more valuable as a buffer than you are summoning your pets (they tend to draw aggro from NPCs around you). Look around and learn from your mistakes and from the mistakes of others.

Oh, and one thing more - keep watching the skies. Villains might have Stalkers, but that doesn't mean they won't try to catch you off-guard, and too few people look directly upwards in a PvP situation.

Deviant Flux, Mind/FF Controller

Go with that I'd say. Nothing wrong with 2 flavours or repel in PVP.

Thanks for the correction Is the bow a good power then? I don't think I've used it on the one character of mine who has it.

But the mission to get it was class. Save some sort of dude with an arrow thingy and he gives you it.

I also got the giant matchstick from Croatoa. (Divinging Rod) I love THAT power. KB.
