Thanks man. Well it sounds like there is still some confusion on what exactly will be changed. Either HO's will be a bit less useful, or just about totally useless.
-
Wait what is the HO nerf exactly? Is that PvP only or PvE too?

Quote:Looking for any sort of logic in this game's PvP is pointless.but i dont get it, i dont get how a archetype focused on holds do the damage to be feared in Pvp.
For example, a tanker's strongest attack is fossilize, an epic power pool power. Damage in PvP is based on attack animation length...and yet fossilize is the strongest attack even though it's 3 times faster than some other attacks. Why? Because the system is broken beyond belief. It really could not be designed any worse.
As far as doms, what recal said is the truf. -
Here's my current build. By 50 I will also have darkest night, scorp shield, and super speed. I plan to just stay with SO's, like I mentioned.

My MM has been unplayed literally for like 5 years, even though he was around level 40. I just got sick of the playstyle and never felt like playing him. But I've just started playing him again, and with some changes to the build, it's actually fun. So after of 5 years at 40, he might actually get to 50 after all. Once that happens, it's incarnate time.
(I will not be spending much at all on this guy....mostly SO's with some random IO/HO)
For alpha I'm thinking vigor. Never tried it before, and all the effects would be very helpful on my build. Would cardiac or spiritual be a significantly better option? Or even musc?
For destiny, I'm pretty sure on clarion, because mezzes are annoying for me.
Ion for judgement, one of the new dmg proc interfaces, and some random lore I haven't decided on yet.
For those that have incarnated their thugs/darks, what do you think? -
That said, keep in mind that the famous "lol, PvP" phrase happened long before I13. PvP was always very broken, was full of ridiculous bugs, and was never even remotely balanced. Of course to take something broken and make it 100 times worse is still the worst design decision in MMO history, imo.
-
Well, apparently doing these trials isn't as easy as most of you make it sound.
I spent some time over the last few days trying to find a trial. No luck. There's a BAF/LAM going off every 5 mins, but absolutely nothing else. I didn't sit there for hours or anything, but I checked in several times throughout several days, and it's always the same thing. In all that time I saw ONE keyes being formed...and one total person looking for a MoM.
Is there a better place to find them besides pocket D these days?
I'm not saying it's 100% impossible to find anything besides BAF/LAM, but when there are 200 BAF's for every non-BAF, it's pretty close to impossible. If you don't have a bunch of supergroup friends to do the trials with, you basically will never do them, unless you do it in the first couple weeks after they come out. Sigh. -
EA's biggest weakness is the heal coming so late, especially for brutes. The heal is a huge part of the set, and waiting until level 35 is a big deal.
But overall, it's now a very good set. -
Quote:The only reason this hasn't happened, is because it would take actual work to remove it, so it's not worth their time. It's easier for them to simply pretend it doesn't exist, which is what they've been doing. If you look at any ad created for CoH in the last few years, you won't find a single mention of PvP. Anywhere. Not even as an additional "oh by the way, the game has PvP too". From the ads, if you didn't know otherwise, you would assume that the game has no PvP whatsoever. This is obviously not an accident.i believe that if pvp is this broken and messed up they should just remove it from the game until they fix it
As far as mids and DR, the reason it's not incorporated in there is because nobody knows the exact values of DR. The devs have always kept it a complete secret. And while things like that can usually be figured out by testing, DR is different. The reason is simple. It was created on a completely random whim of the devs, and it has absolutely zero logic of any kind. Some things get affected by DR a whole lot, some don't at all. Why? Because some guy randomly decided to do it that way on a whim. Every part of DR is completely random.
At some point people tried to figure it all out, but it's so complicated and random, it would take a ridiculous amount of time to do. And for what? For a game that has a total of like 50 competitive players? And a dev team that acts like PvP doesn't even exist in the game? It becomes clear why DR stayed a mystery. -
Thanks a lot for the detailed replies guys!
The last thing I'm wondering about is the new Alpha powers. On all my toons I've gone with either spiritual or cardiac. Would any of the new ones be a better solution than those, or at least on par with them? -
I got about 8 or 9 toons to +3 by doing BAF and LAM. Then due to real life stuff, I had to take a break from trials for a while. This was right when UG came out. So other than BAF/LAM, I've successfully completed the Keyes a couple times (back when it was hard), and I attempted UG one time, which I wasn't able to finish.
I'm expecting to have more time in the near future, so I want to try the newer trials. Any thoughts on which ones are the most fun and most rewarding at this point? Are any so horrible that they should be avoided completely?
Also, I have extensive experience with the original incarnate powers, but none with the newer ones (vorpal, etc). How do they compare? Basically, are any of them better than what was available originally?
Thanks! -
Are you sure you don't want to make a blaster and build it for high survivability? They can be pretty survivable with an infinite build. If not, I'd go with the crab. He will do tons more damage than a ranged brute, and will be much more useful on teams. Also I'm pretty sure crabs get full status protection...except kb, but that's a non-issue.

Depends on the mood for me. Sometimes I'll play for an hour and then realize "wow, I didn't even have my insp window open". Other times I will use them constantly. Overall though, I'd have to say that I'm a hoarder. The "what if I need them later" mentality gets me quite often. Although I will say this...with time, I have learned to use them more. Where I was a total hoarder a few years ago, now I am more likely to use them instead of hoarding.

I feel ya on the redraw. My oldest toon is a BS/regen, and if you think katana is bad, imagine all your animations doubled in length
But it was 2004, and I didn't know any better.
My first thought was also street justice. It's a balanced set overall. DM is a good choice too, but only if you want to be an ST specialist. I love AoE damage, and DM is simply pathetic at it. Elec is also great, but it's somewhat lacking in ST damage. SJ is right in the middle. And due to its soft controls, it really fits a regen based set like WP or regen. -
Hey man, happy new year
One of my newest and most favorite toons is my elec/elec. On mine I went with fireball epic, and love it. The extra AoE is nice, and I really haven't needed much extra survivability. Things may die before you ever need to use shadow meldAnd personally I just hate the activation time on it. Just something to consider.
Couple other things:
-Don't slot the FF proc in LR. I am fairly sure it does nothing there, since it's a pseudo-pet. It will work in TS though.
-In case you didn't know, the best ST attack chain for this build is brawl->JL->brawl->CI, which does require pretty decent recharge to be seamless. I would definitely put at least 1 damage proc in brawl, since you'll be using it ALL the time. With procs, I've found that attack chain is actually very respectable, considering elec is known for it's "lack" of ST damage. -
-
Yeah, it's getting to 20 that's the problem for me. Guess I'll try it anyway. I always hated vil side because right off the bat you have to go on 2 mile hikes to get to every single mission...but I think they may have improved that at some point.
-
I've come to realize that there is really no AT that I feel like making a new toon with...except an SoA. I've never played one, and I'd really love to try the crab playstyle.
The problem is that I really hate the low levels in Rogue Isles. When I try making an SoA, I don't get an option on where to start...it just puts me in Rogue Isles. Is there any way around this? I assume not, but figured I'd ask. It just sucks that this one thing keeps me from playing what seems to be one of the best AT's available in the game. -
-
Good luck trying to play a non-melee toon in the cage without insps. Kat was right, this is pure fightclub. Nothing wrong with that, but might as well be upfront about it. Expecting to see a single non-melee toon in something like this is silly. But it'll probably be fun for the fight club fans.
-
The problem is all the "downies" happen to have them.
As far as OP, the only viable sets are regen and elec. -
Skipping 2nd half of thread just to say...
While a def based scrapper will get less mileage out of fort, a regen based one will get less mileage out of AB. Either way he won't die unless the emp falls asleep or something. -
I love my ice/TW tank. But I feel hasten is really necessary early on. It totally changes the toon.
-
Do you absolutely need to play the same AT? I think the best combo would be a mix of 2 AT's. A controller/def/corruptor combined with a blaster/scrapper/brute would be great.
Limited playtime means you will be in the low levels for a while. Controllers are not that great in the low levels, while blasters and brutes own them, especially with buffs.
