ive had some have this same problem, i dont know what the issue is either
-
im working on a hellion/skull gang war with CoT cross over.. Its ment for lvls 10-14, but 5-14 can play it. Only one mezzer, the main boss that is a main charcter through out the arc. for now he is a CoT madness mage, but that may change in the end to be a custom boss.
though this mission arc will spawn madness mage bosses in the final mission for some crazzy chaos, but anyone that dont know CoT missions at that lvl have madness mages, need to go back to hellion radio missions
But then agian.. mezzes can make for fun on the right team or hell for a bad one. then again, ive played with high lvl teams that couldnt figure out how to deal with mezzers. -

Simple solution: Don't have so many custom enemies.
The one custom group I've made so far took up about 40KB at 6 different members. So if every 20 KB are good for 3 custom characters, well, you do the math. That's 13-14 custom characters max you'll have in your arc overall. Nothing else really takes up space.
If you absolutely can't hack it with 14 custom characters, you have two options: One, split your arc into several. Two, find existing replacements for your current custom characters.
For most missions, the 100 KB are more than enough.

Hehe this makes me laugh.. My 4 mision arc, soo far, has a bit more dialog tweaking in the first 4 missions, probly not a ton, but some im sure it will add another 2-3kb though and im sitting at almost 50kb already.
Im fine with that though,
by the time the dialog/story is all done, ill probly be sitting at around 60KB total.. with my one ally, maybe 65k I seam to be averaging 10-15kb per mission for dialog, clues and all the custom chat. Hopefully all this works pays off and people enjoy the story -
awsome ill give that a try then. Im sure it will add some cause it is adding some text and such. though last edit i seamed to get a 6kb bloat at one point. I could swear i was watching it and it jumped from like 19-25, dont remember adding anything specific but fixing texts and it wasnt that much
Soo could i make these?
CoT archers Just put archers in it? then tag that as enemy group?
Cot Nerva spectral demon in another single unit custom group.
Basically use the archers on a hostage group and the demon on a death.
Kill the named boss, His death spawns a demon off his corpse that you must defeat and then get a clue?
Hmmm that could work in story line -

Maybe I have been to the Special Olympics once too many, but I have decided that the most fair way for me to vote is either 5 stars or no vote at all (and I try to leave constructive feed back and an offer to replay it if they want). I figure if I am not going to help them get towards the goal of HoF least I can do is not hurt their chances.

I think thats a big problem thats out there right now.. but think, what about all the people that dont have all night, or 3-4 days a week to play.. maybe its a couple missions on a friday night and they go looking for a fun arc..
Ohh this one has 5 stars and 100 people rated it it must be great!.. then ya play it and it blows.. Not even an attempt at a story, boring mission nothing but large maps with a big boss.
Great i just wasted my night playing a farm mission thinking it would get good cause a ton of people 5 stared it. with almost 50k missions arcs already im not gonna feel bad about giving truthfull ratings and feed back on ones i play. Ill also be telling people about the good ones too.
Perhaps ill use the end of my bio's with arc numbers of good ones
Besides maybe im crazzy but i think a badger should earn there badges.. I know plenty that put in a ton of effort and wrote arcs that im sure will hit HoF eventually. Some.. well there are always one map zombie/space alein farms that im sure will eventually make it cause enough people will play it for um eventually -
Well seeing spawn points are a number basically.. Why not have the mini map Name all spawn points and tag um with a SpawnX01- SpawnX99 this could be also done with Back, middle, front too
SpawnF_X01 SpawnB_X19
this would let us tag certain things at specific WP's and then let the fodder fill in. My guess is there has to be a way to do this cause i see stuff in specific missions that things ALWAYS spawn in the same spot. like the pantheon mission where the bad dude spawns on the temple, there are others but thats the one that makes the point.
I saw something that someone said the text file can do this some how, but maybe i just read it wrong.
Anyways, i think just number all the spawn points and then let us place stuff on them if we chose.. Im sure many times you would rather have a random aspec, but others a specific spawn would be great. -
Thanks a ton.. that answered a lotta Q's.. and yea it all pretty much made sence. I know basic a bit, and have done a little directobject programing in Neverwinter nights, its not really the same, but i get the jists of it.
Seams like the MA is definatly missing some key features atm, But my hopes/thoughts is they will be eventually. But hey, there are a lotta work arounds im seeing people do that seam too take the place. My first mission im on the 5th incarnation of it and its getting closer to done. I droped the hostages down to 3, last one is an esort out, did some ambushes on events, used a narrow map soo front, middle, back are easy to hit.
things seam to be working nicely. Id say another 2 hours, maybe 3 and first mission should be all ready and done, outside of difficlutly tweaking..
Im also consitering doing some custom groups to make things spawn the way i want. LIke i have some captives i want with mages only, but ghosts keep poping up. I guess ill do some playing with those later. right now i just want everything working right. Ill worry about the nit pick details later.
Probly will take me another week before i have this arc fleshed out the way i want. Still am having issues on how the story is gonna get to the wrap up. 5 missions isnt that long. -
well as long as people dont put me down for it, id be happy to let ya proof it! Im not a very good speller.. but i do well at writing stories from what im told, im even working on full lenth books, one is even ready for a final edit IMO. I figure there are editors and story tellers and im soo far from the first its not even funny.
im defiantly a few days or more from ready to publish for a first open live test to get and idea on how the XP flows and story with a team. -
yea.. But its not helping much lol
Soo im stuck with totally custom charcters.. Oky well ill flesh out the rest of the missions before i start in on custom stuff. Im at finish of mission 2 and im already at 19kb. I did add one custom toon but she is gonna be a toon im gonna use in all 3 of my stories, as basically this arc is gonna span lvls 5-50.. (all 3 of my story arcs will be about the same thing, to some extent) Id rather finsh all 5 maps and the story and see how much room i have to play with first. Before i really start adding custom stuff. But i had to do one first just for kicks !
Oky editing text file, how do you do this? Im not totally clueless when it comes to this kinda stuff, but im also not totally advanced.. I would definatly make a copy of the file before i screwed with it. are there any guides on this? or perhaps you could give me some insite?
Im also have trouble with some mob/item placements. I heard that you can set this in the text file too. is this true? the maps say it has say 30 placements front, 20 middle, 30 back for example, to me they all must have a number to go along with um right? To me it would have to be, or they would never beable to get something to always spawn in one location when needed?
Like right now im using the carnvial city map. the one with the 3 tents at the end of a city block that looks like kings row. i want all the mages and the boss to spawn in the carnival, is this possible? I tired front/back, used back first but that put um in the city, ill try front next, but id really like to place them secfically, all around the carnival tents, with the boss right in the middle as he is running the show. Is this possible?
BTW this MA creator is soo much fun!!.. already much have 10 hours on my arc and first 2 missions arent even close to done yet. Still making sure dialoge and clues flow right, and yikes fixing typo's and tweaking the spawns and such. Im havnig a blast though..
One last thing, where are the Hero NPCs stored? people like fusionette, the mystic in the early hellion arc, the gypsy you save to get the badge magic 10-14 (cant remember the badge name for the life of me)
Id think some of these i could use to save file space but i dont know where they are saved, must be somewhere right??
Ohh oky another one.. What about saving someone to escort, but you have to bring them someplace to interact with an item. Like save the doctor, Bring him to the lab storage box, or save the hacker, find the computer.. soo far on escorts or ally i only see basically follow, stay or lead to exit. -
my guess.. its one of the plusses of playing CoH dev materail. they still want a reason for you to play there stuff, badges are a huge one.
play MA, for freinds storys, fleshing out more lore, specific SG missions..
Play normal coh, badges, story arcs, normal loot.
Both have there plusses. if you gave all the exact same rewards for MA then there really wouldnt be a reason to play normal game. Though my guess is that MA missions that get DEVS choice would most likely give out the badges as they give out the other normal rewards.
You would have to double check this one as i really have no clue -
soo this cant be done now? Is there some sorta work around for it? cause i have the exact same idea for my arc im doing now.. a mage you end up fighting a couple times in the arc, I used on defeat text.
:mages teleports away at the last moment" for story it works, but it would be cool if i could accually get him to port! -
OKy.. well seeing you get where im going with this ill get specific..
I want to make a group of 8 hellions that are being held by CoT. All captives i want to use a different escape dialog. I know i can just create 8 seperate guys, go through and hit all the options and make them the same, and then just add different escape dialoge. very dooable, but a total pain in the rear to set all that stuff 8 times. What i wanna do is make 8 copies of the "Hostage" then go back and tweak the one line i wanna change. In other builders i would just hit clone, or copy paste the dude, rename him and save it. Like Hostage1, copy paste, swap the dialoge, rename hostage 2. Basically skipping all that other time setting everything back up like the first.
The other thing im trying to do is make some CoT and hellion bosses that look EXACTLY like the normal dudes, but have different powersets and names. One i wanna do is an Illusionist Primary mage. a few others are Hellion and skull based custom bosses. I dont wanna go with different looks, and i dont wanna deviate far from the normal guys, just tweak them a bit to add to the story.
Not to give too much away but some crazed mage is trying to take over both the hellions and skulls, give them stornger powers and start a war between the 2 groups.. that offs um both. Crap mabey i did give too much awayBut im trying to figure out the best way to go about doing the bosses.
Right now all my hostages are just the pure clone, aka one hostage set up, spawn 8. what i wanna do is fix that to make each a bit different as the dialoge will add to the story.
Ohh well why not one last thing, clues. Is there a way to keep adding to a main clue like they do in single player campain? I tried naming clues the same, The Plot Thickens, then keep adding to it as it would make more sence to just make one long train of dailoge/story in one box, but that didnt work, unless it was cause of typo, all it did was keep adding boxes named "plot thickens"
soo blah blah you saved the day.. blah blah..
adds new text after next plot.. Soo it wasnt what you thought, blah blah blah... its time to go after XXXXX
next mission.. You find yourself learning more that goes along with the same theme....
Is there anyway to get this into one long dailoge clue?
then use the smaller clues to add simple things, Like Mage Note, the new base is in kings row, Or SKulls swear its the hellions.. on death the skull said you were after the wrong people.. (not exact just examples)
Basically more like the way the real game is.. not 25 small dialog clue boxes which just seam to get lost in the mix after a while. -

The problem with farming is that it does interfere, and this is one of those ways.
[/ QUOTE ]
I couldnt of said it better myself...
Lame farms, one map, no dialoge, not even skill needed to beat the mobs.. 50-100 votes 5 stars.. How does this effect the masses?
Drownding out the content thats accually good.
One last thing.. 90% of the games content is story driven.. Just cause you can choose to do raido missions and not do any of it, doesnt mean its not there. Last i checked there is soo much story content that you cant go from 1-50 and see it all. Trust me i tried, and using dept, doing tfs at lvl cap and a realm of other things and it just cant be done. -
Soo if your making a custom critter, its better.. aka less space if you take an existing critter, like say a madness mage, then custom his powers vrs his outfit?
Im not sure i was clear on the other Q though. Basically, I have a bunch of kidnapped people i want to make. Basically all the same except for minor changes in either animation, or dialog. It would be much easier to just copy the same main file, then just switch the minor detail.
Like say muliple bosses, but one says You wont take down my bother, the other says,, ahh you got my brother but you wont get me!
thats not exactly what i wanna do but you get the idea. -
I got a q here, I wanna add some rescue victums to a mission. is there a way to copy the exact same dialog/peramiters, basically duplicate the other one with out going through and adding everything manually? Im bascially wondering if there is anyway to copy past stuff like that?
also. Im currious about adding custom content. I added a custom escort. basically just outfit on a NPC with custom dialog. It added about 5KB. Is this right? I want to use this character later in the arc as a ally. For right now i didnt even add powers or anything and it took up that much. some how this doesnt seam right as i played a arc last night that had to of had 10 or more custom bosses/allys. Am i doing something wrong? or is there a way to lessen the load on custom created things? -
I found one called future Skull's it doesnt seam to bad. smallish maps first 2, huge outdoor on third.
Im making one, thats hellions/skulls with a CoT twist.. Ill post it when its done ment for 10-14, but i would think lower could do it with out too much trouble. -
[ QUOTE ]
Perhaps as community service I'll play and rate arcs that have only 1 rating.
[/ QUOTE ]
Ive been rethinking the whole thing too, playing lower stuff.. and mostly asking around for good ones. -
Ive seen a lotta posts about *My arc got hit by one star after playing it for 2 mins.. some never even made it through the door. I can definatly understand frustration for getting hit like that. Or getting 1 star just cause they didnt like the power set/mob types. Im sure tons of people would one star carnies and knives of artims outta spite.
But after playing some 5 star arcs, ive seen the exact opposite problem. tons of ratings, all 5 stars and basically a medicore arc, Or just doesnt live up to what its advertised as.
say, Arc vrs trolls, challenging, great stroy, fun for all your freinds. then i play it and as a lowbie blaster i was able to basically do the whole arc with ZERO risk. guess the desinger forgot about ranged attackers and at my lvl maybe they didnt have all there protections, maybe its just a flaw in the mobs, but a single troller would just eat these guys for lunch.. Now i didnt rate this arc as i wanna test it with a couple more at's and lvls just to see if it changes. Im gonna send the person feed back too and give him an opertunity to rework it. I did think the story was a grreat idea, and implemented well, outisde of some nit pick things like the way clues were handled.
This got me thinking. Why isnt 3 stars the norm? An arc that does what its advertised, maybe the story is average, the mission kinda fun.. over all worth doing. 3 stars, Story or challenge that goes above and beyond the normal, 4 stars. An arc that goes far into story, humorous, a major challenge for the most experianced people.. 5 stars.
Now to me it should be directly related to what the mission description is too. If an arc is said to be a major challenge for purple IO'd 50's and someone joins it with a mid 20's team and gets slaughtered by the first mob.. well to me that shouldnt be one stared. On the flip side, some 3 mission arc that is advertised as a deep story of back stabing and trechery that has 3 lines of dialoge and basically open maps shoulldnt be getting 5 stars.. (like many ive seen)
I guess what im saying is i think people need to be a bit more honest to the story's desricption and does it live up to what is advertised.
take into consiteration the balance, story depth, and lastly was it just fun.
Id love to see the rating system changed to 4 catagories vrs the one.
Does the arc live up to as advertised.
Is the arc a challenge
Was the arc fun
Was the story griping
To me these are 4 easy questions that if you just played an arc you could do with out much thinking and i think people would get much better feed back to how there arc is being perceived by people.
If tons of people say its too hard but getting good porps on the story, maybe you wanna scale it back. If your getting lame story, but fun mission, Maybe you would do something is change the title to help people find what they are looking for.
Anyways, I guess what im saying, for the sake of the community/players/builders, I think the ratings need to be revamped a bit, Or atleast pleast not just 5 star everything just to be nice. its just as bad as giving everyone one star to be a jerk. It may not be greifing the builders, But it sure is greifing the players. Maybe im living in a dream world, But for 5 stars i guess i was just expecting more.
One last thing on rating change, I really think all published arcs should have a two week wait on ratings, Or perhaps have a two week temporary rating. this would give arcs time to get fleshed out, ideas, changes made before the true rating hits.
Maybe i just have higher expectations, or expect better testing from many.. But it just seams many are just out for the badge, or to say they are HOF or 5 star when really its just not.
On a side note.. Anyone have some 5 Star arcs i can go see that are truely on par with dev material and i can really enjoy, not feel like im beta testing someones material? Over 10k arcs.. and it seams like over 1000 are all 5 stars.. and really its just not the case. Maybe over time it will sort itself out. But till then can someone point me in the right direction for some fun/story/enjoyable missions. -
I see how you can make sperate rescue victems and use the normal templates but is there a way to randomize the victum that spawns? like say i make a group called Frightened girl. can it spawn random looking firghtened girls and use the same dialoge and count?
the only way i saw to make um look different is to use sperate ones, But then the ojective counter has seperte 1 girl, not 6. -
just currious.. is MA content with toons set to heroic? I mean i rarely have any issue on any content with heroic.. Is ma the same? or is stuff that much harder?
-
Could i make a single hellion hero ally? that could work with the story. then that hellion would fight to the end if we wanted it to?
-
great those are both good ideas.
Here is something that might work, for story. what if i put a patrol of hellions set to ally. they would help the heroes right?
But would the follow them? or just patrol around? Is there a way to just make um completely nuetral?
I do like the patrol idea.. Or i guess a single boss would work too. -
why not take an SO'd hero... tons of people still use the plain old SO's Make a second version of a couple of your favorite/more common heroes.. say fire/fire blaster, a sword/regen scraper, perhaps a defender of some flavor. test the arcs with a set up like that.
Also in the descrption why not say whats the arc is ment for. easy for everyone, IO'd 50's only!.. must have team.. blah blah. Or Arc tested on list at's Something for people to compare -
Oky.. ive got some ideas for some fun cross over story arcs. But the porb i see is say i want the story to play at say 15, Its hellions and skulls mainly, But then i toss in a CoT mission that is 1-54. Is there a way to make those CoT spawn and play through as exempt down to 14 for everyone that plays it as thats the lvl i wanna balance the arc for?

dark is a more advanced set.. and needs more micro, and more, thought in game play/build. But the advanced user that likes a challenge can make this set do what others only dreamed of..
Try stacking some DEF with this set and you will learn what unkillable is.. think SR+dark.. def/resist/toys.. (BTW thats what the IO's are for.. any whole dark has can be more than filled with a nice set, but hey even with SO's its not bad, But an IO'd dark is just plain sick)
