I like the raspberry swirl and the peanut butter ones best.
Toffee Crunch is also excellent. but I wish they'd leave the mint chocolate and coconut ones out. And put more peanut butter in. -
Can't think of anything that isn't juvenile as hell.

I think the major issue at play here is that people signed up to do art about City of Heroes and the first thing that happened is that the subject matter isn't about City of Heroes. Of course it's gonna be offputting to a lot of people. Moreso, if they're either not fans of the show, or not knowledgeable about it in the first place.
But it's Juggy's art competition and his call to pick the topic. You either abide by it or get out of the water. However, this goes both ways. Don't put anyone down for wanting out of it, when an obvious bait and switch was pulled. This is not a paid commission. This is not a job. This is something that's supposed to be FUN and if it's not fun for those people, then let them leave without making them feel inferior.

While I would agree that there's no need to talk down on people who want out... there was no bait and switch. Juggy never specified it would be CoX fanart. Just fanart by artists from the CoX forums. I, like many, assumed it would be CoX-related, since that's what it seemed to be leaning towards. Unlike many, apparently, I admit that I made an assumption without much substance. And thinking about it... I draw enough CoX as it is. Spanning out is a good thing.
I've started a sketch for a painting, incidentally. It'll probably end up taking a goodly chunk of the timeframe available, though, so I wouldn't expect to see it very soon. -

Aww thanks Morgenstern! I'm having fun with your piece and I again apologize for the delays. I have good news as to why for once.
I graduated yesterday with my bachelor's in animationSo this week's finals were a bit of a whirlwind! I didn't expect to be so exhausted or I would have posted more earlier.

Woo! *waves a pennant* Feels good, doesn't it? I think I slept for like a week straight after I finished my animation program. Anyone who thinks art school is somehow 'easy' hasn't got clue one. -
Off the cuff... I'd say Great Briton. Dee Jay looks great, and I'd be happy to (hypothetically) take a commission on a character like that, BUT I've also gotta be honest here-- the level of detail on the enforcer stuff is a lot like Vanguard armor(which I have personally drawn before). With any sane artist that values their work, that costume's going to come at a bit of a premium, because of the amount of time and effort reproducing the details would take. That's why I'm thinking GB. He's simple, but interesting, with a nice collection of colors to work with, and his theme brings up some immediate ideas involving flags or whathaveyou. Patriotic characters are great for that. Comrade could probably turn into some nice art with the right artist, too.

I'm just glad it all worked out amicably. The situation in question wasn't much fun for even those that were peripherally involved, so 'back to normal' is entirely cause for celebration.
-
It is FABULOUS. I'm sure it's lovely on the PS3 as well... but then you finish the game and all you've got left is a cheap Blu-ray player.
Some people complain about the controls and gameplay.. but honestly every complaint I've heard has boiled down to "I thunk that stealth games wuz suppost to bee liek teh Metul Geerz" and other variations on "Learn2play, n00b". Occassionally I get a little odd control glitch, but it's always because I came running at a ledge from a funny angle.
It's gorgeous though, and really, really well made. Totally worth giving a shot. -
I love this game unreasonably, though I'm sad to admit I haven't finished it yet. I was going to, but Mass Effect came in the mail the day I was expecting to finish, and thus I have not quite managed to finish off my last couple of kills. On the other hand, this also means Mass Effect art is forthcoming eventually in some form.
I'm also sad to report that despite my best efforts and narrowly missing it about five times, I still haven't quite managed to get my Blade in the Crowd achievement. Something always manages to pooch it for me. T_T -
Another not-CoH piece, but I figure most people here will appreciate general game fanart. Plus, I know LJ and I were talking about Illustrator a week or so ago, so it's only fair I prove that I *do* sometimes use it, as I have here:

Wait, nova's NOT in an attack chain?
I mean, I've been doing Aim/Teleport/Fulcrum/Nova/CAB/Transference as a perfectly valid opening salvo...
And the art, in a word, rocks.

Personally, as a Peacebringer, I feel Build-up + Dawn Strike(aka: Peeb Nova) + CaB is a valid aggro-gain tool when used as an opener whilst dwarf-tanking. *nods* -
Of course, this post is all quite misleading, since BAB's actual post in that thread has NOTHING to do with the implications made here or in the screenshot-- and in fact goes in quite the opposite direction.

I'm biased, but TheDart is having an extremely agreeable Christmas sale, and I happen to know the queue is pretty clear at the moment(Dart works fast).
Since I can't take any freebies on myself right around now, this iz zee best I can advise. -
I'm probably going to doom myself to a sudden rush of paying work and/or a real job if I commit to this...
So, Sign: Juggertha!
Just do me a favor, Juggy, and post updates to your dA, since I'll probably see them better there than here. -
As i told LJ when she asked... I've got an Envisionaries character... unfortunately, my main home has been Virtue since... well, launch... and I've got a huge number of alts and SGs and buddies there, so i just don't get out to Liberty as often as i might like. I'm always around on Paragon One, though, and if soemthing's going down Liberty-side, I'm not adverse to swapping over for a while.
-
I don't think I was here for whatever you said. But I'm a big proponent of "less QQ more pew pew", so welcome back. It's a good time to return to Paragon.

I work at GameStop and Wii never have Wii's. On Black Friday the 5 or so we had sold in the first 5 minutes. I think it's safe to say Wiintendo has struck gold. hehe Now if they would just manufacture them faster...

Nintendo's been steadily increasing production since the initial launch sell-out. They really are just in that large a demand in most areas. Choosing not to compete directly with MS and Sony really paid off for them. -
If you can get a TWAIN driver for the scanner, Photoshop or most other standard programs'll have no trouble using it.

Anything that isn't Just Standing There In A Static, Lifeless Manner. :>
[/ QUOTE ]
IE: something dynamic. The details are flexible, but there are a lot of people out there that just want their character standing around "looking badass". I mean, great, there's four of five standard standing poses I can draw with my eyes closed, so it saves me some effort, but the art's more fun when it looks like something's happening. Makes the character look better, too.
EDIT: That elusive "personality" thing can work for dynamicism, as well, even if not much is actually going on mostion-wise in the thing. -
Sesame Street. IIRC it's the Tiny Little Super Guy or something to that effect-- it's been a while, and the theme jingle isn't quite coming to mind properly.
-
I'd consider maybe slipping this into my current pile, BUT, I can't see the screens well at all. Beyond "Dark blob of black and almost-black-red with knives, it's not too obvious. Catch a screen in AP during the day, or even from the costume creator, and that'll work better.
-
Well, UMax used to be the go-to people for artist scanners, but that's not really the case anymore(if they're even still around). These days, I'd probably recommend HP and Epson. Just about any scanner's suitable for artwork-scanning these days, since the scan resolution on even the cheapest modern scanners will probably far exceed what you need to scan artwork for general use, and I think pretty much everything is 24-bit color cold cathode nowadays.
-
I'll throw in another it depends.
I don't mind either way. I've had clients that run the gamut from knowing what they want to having no clue, and I'm generally fine either way.
My only preference on the topic is that they remember I'm not a mind reader, even if they're very specific, it may not look EXACTLY the way they've envisioned it, and never, NEVER suddenly come up at the end and finally be fully-specific about a piece. If you've got soemthing very particular you want, you've got to be FULLY disclosed from the start. If you suddenly tell me at the end that what you actually had in mind was X and Y and a little Z, you're probably going to end up with a re-draw fee. I sell my time and a limited license, not the artwork itself. -
I've got several Gnomon volumes, and I can't praise them highly enough. I learn something everytime I watch one, even the ones I've seen many times. Personal favorites: the Feng Zhu series, and Syd Mead (Syd's amazing. Among other things, he concepted on Tron). If they had a set of Ralph McQuarrie, I'd probably die happy on the spot.
Also, I must shout-out to my favorite art magazine ever: ImagineFX. My subscription's almost up this year, and my only regret is I can't renew it right now. T_T -

Cool, I just saw EaW Gold for $40 canadian at our local store, well their online version. If I like the demo, I may have to get it. I've only played the UaW demo, but it's very linear, you have to keep doing the first scenario to get to the second one. But I love the graphics and sound. And yes I love RTS, Age of Empires was my Nanny.
Xbox360 is the debbil!
[/ QUOTE ]
Campaign mode is a bit linear, in that you can roam around and do as you like between major missions, but eventually you end up having to move through the linear story. Where EaW really shines, though, is Conquest, which is pretty much just "Here's the galaxy, here's your starting planets/fleet, have fun!" And you can do as you like. It's also pretty strong in that if you really want to, you can go in and mod the game a bit and remove all of the space or land battles if you want to just do one or the other-- Of course, if you play Empire, you no longer have to do ground battles anyway once you build the Death Star.
