Thank you for your support in this thread, but I tend to think Memphis Bill's suggestion is in fact the best proposition...

I like the idea, it seems reminiscent of DAOC and WoWs binding stones...

Quote:I can agree that for lowbies the excessive dropping of temp powers is a very good thing, but in my case I have 32 level 50 ALTs, and frankly at that level the great majority of the temp powers are pointless; thus the high drop rate of temps is mostly a nuisance.Okay here is what I have been doing since I have almost 40 characters on Virtue between 2 accounts. I run missiion and get temp powers. I craft and then if I get a duplicate I send an email to myself with the temp as an attachment and a message statiung "up for grabs". When I log on someone that doesnt have that yet they claim it and then they email any duplicate again.
Hey temps come in very handy during time travel missions, especially low levels ones, between keeping 5 levels of powers above the mission itself now and the temp powers I find myself vastly outgunning whatever I am facing. :-D In other words even now that the market is back up I haven't sold a single one and have no plans too.
Frankly, I am getting to the point that temp powers should not be a droppable item, and be instead a saleable item at the arena or specific vendors such as it is done now with flight packs.

Mmm...
I am not sure if arbitrary reductions are the proper thing to do...
But I seen the effect of players with sufficient wealth to corner the market and sky-rocket the prices of items at the market.
So its a very good question on how to handle this, after all the real world stock market does have full time police organizations insuring this does not occur. How you simulate that in CoH? Frankly I am clueless how to do this fairly and effectively.
I think, a competitive environment to the market could serve as an external regulatory price control mechanism. There are several already in-game price control mechanisms, which perhaps needs to be further enhanced:
1. AE tickets:
You can buy orange and yellow salvage with tickets, both specifically what you want or random salvage results. You can get random recipes of any type (except purple) through random rolls.
Improving AE to let you buy white salvage would be a good idea, also having it where you can specifically buy recipes with tickets would also be appropriate, but the limit in tickets a player can have has to be drastically increased so a reasonable recipe to ticket exchange can be created. This could also resurrect the use of AE to some extent.
2. Merit System:
You can purchase any recipe (except purple) by trading AE merits, you could as well random roll for them as well.
I can't recall if you can purchase salvage through the merit system, but it would make sense if you could both specifically and randomly.
I believe the price in merits for recipes really need to be revised, while I agree the most complex and valuable recipe is worth 250 merits, some minor recipes should cost as little as 25 merits and have a good graduation of recipe prices beyond the 125,150,175,250 currently used; there should be more in between prices.
3. Vendors:
You can buy inspirations, and enhancements (Training, doubles, singles) from your friendly neighborhood contact or vendor, you can even sell your junk drops to them. Why not have them sell salvage and recipes as well? In fact they buy the stuff on the cheap from us, why not sell stuff for say ten times more than what they would buy from us? In a way, if you think of it, it would certainly place a cap on the market for stuff. While crazy, scalping priced items would cease to be available or would never get sold, one could still play the market, for we could sell recipies in the market for more than the vendor would buy them from us, and less than what we could buy the recipe from the vendor. What would be needed is what is the range of sell prices; that is how low the vendor buys and how high the vendor sells, to establish the player potential profitability in the market.
There may be other ways, any thoughts out there?

Quote:If "As far as the OP? Haven't had it happen, but between that (and Techbot's example of the longbow in Agincourt,) how about a different solution - make them train missions. Create an instance of a section of the zone. That way, you're still going "to the zone," but external events won't affect you and the mobs will be level appropriate. (Won't work with all, I suppose, but there would be a greater chance.)
Wow Bill, that is an awesome idea! Likely the best yet!

Hi!
How many times we are engaged in a thread or TF which includes go kill a bunch of mobs at a certain place, only to find that an event such as zombies, banners, or what not is happening there. I remember the aggravation of doing a Numina and being so unfortunate that the Banner event kept moving to our next hunt destination; it was aweful.
I am not advocating to stop the events, in fact lets have these more often, they do help with game immersion. But unfortunately they can and do interfere with other game content and immersion activities; so how to solve this dilema?
One way to solve this is to autocomplete any hunt that is to be performed in an area there is an event in progress, even if you started the hunt and the event spawns midways.
or
Remove the "hunt" locations, instead of having say defeat CoT at Steel Canyon, just have it where you can defeat any CoT anywhere. This way if there is an event, it does not impact your activity. In general by the time you do say a Numina, the mobs are below the groups level, so experience and threat is not an issue if the group goes hunt somewhere else than the original intended area.
What do you all think?

I am getting way too many temps, and somehow I am beginning to believe my chances of geeting an invention are now greatly reduced, and that i sreally bad.
I done a couple of ITFs, and normally I mdo get a reasonable number of invention recipe drops with some rares sprinkled among them. Lately I get droves of worthless temporary powers, and almost no invention recipes; I don't like that.

Quote:I wuv you!If you're having trouble copying them - and the system can be a little wonky - do two things.
1. Go to the Titan network and sign up. Specifically to get into City Info Tracker.
2. Download Herostats and install it. Let it run while you log into various characters.
What will happen is - after you tell Herostats to log into the titan network - it will save your character info (not build, but AT/pri/sec/level/bio and other info) to CIT. (It will look like this.)You can then go *there* and copy, as well.

Thank you so much...
Is there a way to get the characters' bios besides pulling them up and writting them down?
Sue aka Stormy -
Hi:
I am in the process of writing my alts' bios in our SG web page, unfortunately I can't highlight, copy my ALT's bio so I could then copy it on word.
I figure, the bios for all of my alts, are to be located somewhere in my computer as opposed to the server; but I could be wrong.
If it is in my computer, where would the file be?
In the same vein, where are my characters' binds stored at?

I was asking last night about these temp powers and if drops were broken...
I am getting way too many temp powers and it seems at the expense of getting "real" recipes.
Like others, I hope this is only temporary, kinda of an introduction thing. Also would be nice if the temps had a description of what they really did.
Stormy -
Aett, I totally agree, but there was no somewhere else to go to get that last 0.05% I was after.

For clarification purposes...
My power set up currently is:
1 Hami Acc Buff/Defense/Endurance, and 5 x IO Defense Buffs.
Before I was contrasting the overall effect of the present set up versus:
6 x IO Defense Buffs.
To my great satisfaction, the current set-up gave me the same defense boost, and the benefit of endurance reduction too!
As a result, it made me wonder about the ED mechanics some.
Stormy -
Mmm...
Have you checked your laptop's update settings? There is nothing like windows self updating, or the infamous virus checker updater, or any other programs which may want to update anytime they randomly feel like; to wipe your bandwidth and take you to rubber-band-ville.

Hi:
I have a working understanding on ED and how each time you slot the same enhancement you get a diminhing returns. So far so good.
last night I was dinking in Mids trying to get a build just right. My original configuration was 1E and 5 Defenses, ya, I know I was desperate for that last fraction of a percent, but I still needed 0.01 to get to 45%, and I could get it by replacing the endurance IO with another Defense IO. But that meant I had no endurance hedges, and all 6 slotts were filled with Defense Buffs. So at a lark I replaced the endurance IO with a Hami Acc/End/Def enhancement. To my surprise I got to the 45% and gained endurance relief as well.
So after this long line of talking, giggles, does ED does its reduction of performance based only on the same type of enhancement, but if a second different enhancement which happens to give the same benefit not be counted against this stacking diminishing returns? That is the Hami diminishing performance has its own count, indpendent of the Defense Buff IOs?

I have used the search feature trying to get "red name" or at least authoritative information that the Blessing of the Zephyr defensive bonuses are getting drastically reduced.
I don't know if it is true, a very solid rumor, or what.
I searched and searched with no luck, can someone please tell me if this is true, and if so what the new downgraded values will be? When will this be done? Are the developers making any allowances for "refunding" the cost of the IO?
Or point me out to a link, please, please?
Stormy
Please use the official thread linked in the post below. Thanks! -theOcho- -
Lol that is funny!
But don't we have that already? Isn't the support classes (non-melee) for all practical purposes acting as side kicks? By becoming buff bots, heal bots, and good ole support to the melee classes?
Beyond that, interesting concept

I understand how the Honoree can be a pain, depending on group composition. Since at Champions we have Thursday mothership raids, its easy to get lots of Vanguard Merits, and I make sure all o fmy alts have the HVAC robot. It is nice to have them as a back up capability for instances just as Honoree becoming to tough for the group, because we are shy on debuff.
Usually a single HVAC is enough to provide the debuffs needed to defeat the Honoree.

First welcome to the game, hope it grows on you as it has to many of us.
I am concerned with your post to some extent, but my experience has been that my Atlas contacts would refer me to other contacts in other zones, mainly King's and the Hollows.
Normally when you start the game, you get assigned to a contact, Azuria for those who are magic based such as I, but by the time I am done with her she has passed me on to another contact, and eventually I am referred to a contact at the Hollows or KR. I am wondering if somehow the process is broken and you did not get a reference.
I would suggest you return to your contacts at Atlas, and in the interface you should have a choice for being introduced to another contact; click it and say yes to the choice provided, often you are given several choices, read the descriptions often these choices are related to character power source, so if you are a tech type, look for a contact that would give you missions that gives you tech salvage.

You all make a great point, and perhaps I have missunderstood how GR is going to work.
Here is my understanding, you all please correct me where I am wrong.
Hero goes Vigilante:
Hero retains access to blue missions and WW only.
Hero goes Vigilante then goes on to Villain:
Hero is now a Villain, has access to red missions and BM.
Villain goes Rogue:
Villain retains access to red missions and BM.
Villan goes Rogue then goes to Hero:
Villain is now a Hero, has access to blue missions and WW.
I did not gather from the information provided on GR that a Vigilante or Rogue would have access to content on either side or markets thereof; is my interpretation wrong?
Would be so cool if it was...

Quote:Don't let the redside door hit you in the backside on the way out.
Goodbye, and have fun in Atlas Park.
Just because you're leaving doesn't mean the rest of us shouldn't get improvements to redside.
Sweetie, I was being sarcastic.
The problem I see in this thread is the total lack of integration into trying to fix red. all i see ia a few posters trying to submit an idea and then get shut down without a suggestion on how to make it work.
It is true, that since fixes to the red side that matters will not happen any time soon, it is practical for me to simply move my alts blue side, take advantage of a more mature zone's features to get my villains appropriately IO set built, and then when the devs eventually do something with red side to make it worth my effort to return, to return.
I have posted in other threads, of my concern that with GR that the mass exodus to Blue will far exceed the trickle cross-over from blue to red, that Red is likely to become "lame duck" and the issues red is experiencing now, will get far worse. I was hoping thru this thread that ideas and solutions could be shared with devs to help keep the red side viable.

Quote:Really the whole idea is mute now, since its so completely disagreed with, but you do make a good point. You know I'm not big on RP, but I can't imagine my heroes just kind of standing all casual under the statue of Atlas with super villains there too...
On the other hand its all a frame of mind. In the Marvel series, there are instances of accepted "heroes" in the US that are actually considered criminals, traitors and what not in other countries. But I can see where this is a stretch of sorts too.
The spirit of the suggestion was more along the limes on how to keep the red side alive, I truly believe after GR the migration from red to blue will far exceed the migration from blue to red, and as a result a red side with such a small population to begin with, will then become even more challenged and the problems currently being suffered due to the small population size will get even worse.

Ps: Perhaps you all have ideas on how to rescue the red side from oblivion, of course I could be reading the "tea leaves" wrong -
Giggles, I had, but maybe you did not notice the subtle difference of what I am suggesting. My suggestion allows for both heroes and villains to operate within each other's domains with out changing your alignment. Changing your alignment thru GR would be practical some of the built in zone harrassment I suggested when visiting the other side.
