Phew! No schadenfreude intended, just very glad that I wasn't so far off the mark.

Quote:That will be very disappointing if true; I've no reason to disbelieve you, it's just that I was given conflicting info last week (over here).Power boost doesn't work with +Def from toggles, despite what Mids' tells you.
EDIT: Or are PBU and Power Boost that different from one another? -
Hey all.
I've attempted some Blasters in the past, but usually ended up getting discouraged (usually in the 30s). However, I've got a character whom I really like, so I was hoping to kit him out. My first thought was to just shoot for S/L/E, but then I figured I could also hit the Range cap with some reslotting. Hitting these caps is pretty much dependent on Power Boost, but it's on a ~3 second cooldown (including the cast time), so I figure that's not so bad.
I'd like to get some more experienced Blaster eyes on it, but the one specific question I have is; what mezzes would still punch through an S/L/E capped build? If I recall correctly, the "pink" mez types are non-positional, so would ignore a character's Range cap anyway.
Anywho, here's the build:
EDIT: Oh, I should mention there's some funky stuff in there, just because I needed some filler powers that worked with the base slot. Group Fly is a placeholder for, uh, something.

Well, necro'd again; if you can get that much Inf together, head over to the Markets & Inventions forum. There's typically at least one person advertising a Glad Unique for sale.
-
Perfect, thanks!
-
Hey all. Search-Fu failed me, so just wondering; when you click Power Boost, does it only affect the powers you click afterwards, during its duration, or will it affect any applicable powers which are currently active?
Thanks!
EDIT: To clarify, by extant I mean, "toggles currently running", and not "clickies I clicked a while ago". -
Could be. To be fair, though, it's not entirely dissimilar to a thread entitled, "Radiation Armor", and then proposing a "Power Armor" set, which has nothing at all to do with Radiation except that some people want to make a character who wears radiation -powered and -emitting armor.
-
That looks great; thanks a bunch, Iggy!

Hi folks.
So, after struggling with positional builds, I thought I'd have a go at a typed version. I'm actually quite a bit happier with it, but I was hoping to get some more eyes on it.
Goals: PvE only, solid survivability, no End issues, quality AoE/cone damage, passable (i.e. enough to solo most AVs) ST DPS, moderate cost.
Concerns: fairly large holes to Ranged and AoE Smashing, Fire, and Cold damage (24.1% Def to Smashing and 27.2% Def to Fire and Cold); I'm not sure how much of an issue this will be in practice...I'm hoping not enough to break the build.

If the consensual assumption about new Energy Drain is true--that it's an Absorption copy--then yeah, forget Shadow Meld. I was initially thinking of a new-fangled "bridge" type of defense tricks, like the ones over in Werner's Kat/Regen thread.
EDIT: although some Def overkill is probably not a bad idea, since EA's DDR is...about 52%, I think. -
For shame, Scrapper forum...no thread on this proliferation yet?
In my head, a Kat(BS)/EA/Soul, with SMeld in the back pocket (pre-Barrier), is looking pretty nice. -

Question: Is it a requirement that prospective members of this SG actually be from the past, or could they be inspired by/connected to the past? I ask because I have a gent (Doc Steam; I think GQ actually tried to recruit him--in a past incarnation--about two and a half years ago or something) who is connected to the past, specifically, old-timey Nemesis shenanigans.

I see a few things that jump out at me right off the bat (RttC doesn't get much out of -ToHit enhancing, Repulsing Torrent is...less than decent), but not being able to open the build makes it difficult to really offer advice. It looks like maybe your friend used the older (pre-May 8th) version of Mids.

Quote:It is 30 "AMerits" (Alignment Merits; oh, you'll have to get used to the several new forms of in-game currency). However, it shouldn't take you that long, if you're really committed to it.
So here's what I'd suggest, and this applies even if you find you have the influence - buy everything but that one IO, and leave the slot empty. Then run tip missions. Endless tip missions. I believe the Gladiator's Armor costs 30 alignment merits, which is I think 330 missions across a minimum of 60 active days of playing. You MIGHT have enough influence for it just from selling your Hamios, but you'll seriously be very, very solid without it. You'll probably notice the difference when you add it, but it's not going to be night and day. Oh, and that'll give you time to see if you like the build before slotting the final, most expensive piece. I'll be very surprised if you don't like it, though.
You can run 5 Tip Missions a day, and after every 10th mission, you get an Alignment Mission which rewards you with one Alignment Merit. So you can get 1 AMerit every other day this way. Also, you can, once every 18 hours (I believe; might be 20 or even 24), exchange 50 Reward Merits (the ones you get from Task Forces, Story Arcs, defeating Giant Monsters, etc.) plus 20 million Influence for 1 AMerit. So if you're borderline obsessive, you can gain 3 AMerits every other day (Day 1: 50 Merit/20M Inf Swap, 5 Tips; Day 2: 50 Merit/20M Inf Swap, 5 Tips + Alignment Mission), netting you 30 AMerits in 15 days.
Alternatively, there's the market. There are a number of guides out there which detail how to turn a profit with the market system. Additionally, the Market & Inventions sub-forum acts as a sort of "secondary market" for the higher end IOs. You'll see one or two posts a week from people looking to sell the very expensive IOs, so if you have the Inf on hand, that's another good way to get what you need/want.
EDIT: whoops, forgot to give you the "cheat sheet" for gaining 50 Merits a day...check out the Flashback System. My personal favorite arc to run is the Freakshow War; 33 Merits for about 35-55 minutes of work. Then you can fill in the other 17 with one or two of the others. -
-
Burst is the set's only AoE; a priority.
Repulsing Torrent knocks things away from you, making it difficult if not impossible to chain your attacks, which hastens Power Siphon's degradation. While it has some use as mitigation, it is usually skipped altogether. -
-
-
It's not possible. OwtS is not affected by recharge.
-
Mind is probably the easiest of the primaries, as well as the most "efficient"; i.e., you don't really sacrifice anything while chasing Recharge bonuses, as you're not really muling anything (except maybe Lift for Kinetic Crash).
-
Totally forgot that Void had -Dam in it also; I was already leaning that way for character concept reasons, and that just cinched it. Gracias.

Quote:As a slight modification of this; once you sell the 10 a couple of times, you can start placing bids on level 50 Common IO Recipes instead. As an example, say you get 10 lvl 50 Recharge IO Recipes for 625,000 (62.5k per); selling them at any vendor gets you (IIRC) 107,500 per Recipe, so 45k a pop, 450,000 a trip (or 10x what you were making before).1) No risk, minimal reward, boring as hell: Go to Wentworth's and buy unloved set recipes at level 50- I'm going to be specific, because you've already got a lot on your plate. Nightmare, Enfeebled Operation, Kinetic Crash, Blood Mandate, Expedient REinforcement, Lethargic Repose. Find something that has zero bids and, like, fifty for sale. Buy them for 200 inf or less until you're full. Run to a regular store and sell them for 5 or 10 thousand each. (You have to scroll down, it's under inspirations for some reason). You can right click and "Sell all". If you're selling say 10 recipes each time, you're making about 48,000 inf per run. If you do this ten times, which I admit SUCKS, you'll have a good start.

I'm one of those jerks for whom spending billions on a build isn't really that big a deal; I level up mostly through Tips and Flashbacks, so turning in AMerits for high-dollar recipes, and the occasional bit of marketeering, pretty much lets me slot whatever I want.
I look at the Alpha slot as a means to achieve global bonus(es) which I wouldn't otherwise be able to achieve. If I can get perma-Hasten via sets, I'd rather do that, then use the Alpha to pick up +Dam or +EndRec.
