That's why I think specific builds would be the best solution. It seems like it would be the best way to get around this new timer.

[/ QUOTE ] Like a Scrapper with built in Rez?

    [/ QUOTE ]
I count 4 scrapper secondaries with self-rez. They're all on a 300s (5 minute!) timer by default. This should make it spectacularly easy to time the rep timer. Sure it's still going to take 300s per chance rather than 30s, but for a 1bil inf PO, it might be worth it to some.

BTW, I would suggest leveling the scrapper like normal and then setting up a second build with no enhancements and no auto-powers so he's nice and squishy.

The lands would sprout green and carbon monoxide would be drained from the air and puppies would start kicking people and rats would chase cats and your incredibly large head that youve had since you were a child will have small stones orbit it like a gigantic moon

    Purple Hunt ...

I'd probably dual-box with my fire/kin and my PBAoE blaster. I have my blaster following the kin, I run kin in, fire cage, siphon power, fulcrum, fireball, smoke (wicked to-hit debuff!), cages, swap to the blaster, aim, buildup (don't forget siphon power and fulcrum!), fire sword circle, ball lightning, short circuit and my other fire pbaoe if anything is still standing (which it usually isn't).

This of course works much better when there's a tank around, but I've got my fire/kin about half-way to soft-cap at this point so he's not taking a TON of dmg.

I always wanted to roll up a shield brute, but I was having too much fun with my WP brute. Shield scrapper sounds groovy. FOTM AOE brute was shield/elec last I checked. Is there an elec/shield scrapper?

  7. My client patched to 702.4 this morning. Servers aren't up yet, but the patch is live. That includes 702.2, the infamous PvP "fix". Check notes in the Training Room forum.

So what really is the "best" way to farm for purples? I heard taking on large mobs of lvl 47s when you are lvl 50. Is that correct? Also, where would you recommend I go to find these specific mobs?

  11. In a game like this where getting to level cap means starting again, I can't see that wiping everyone's inf is gonna do much at all except maybe temporarily bring down the general price level.

Now ask that question in Eve where you earn skill points in real time, 99% of everything for sale in the game is player crafted, and you have to open pvp in every system worth living in...that would get me playing again in a second!

I normally have the mental restraint to do this without hitting the ignore button.

Don't worry, you'll see all the parts worth reading in the quoted replies anyways. There's just something about seeing something so incredibly wrong that makes me want to reply. 15. Personally? I'd just buy it with the merits. Having money to buy something doesn't matter when it's not for sale. After that, do the same thing but buy your uniques for beaucoup bucks.

I honestly wonder if they thought the change through.

    [/ QUOTE ]

they've been making a lot of bad, knee-jerk decisions lately for whatever reason.

This is another one that smells more like I'll show those stinking farmers who's boss! than What's best big-picture solution to this issue?

    [/ QUOTE ]
To me what it seems like is they were in a big meeting covering lots of topics and they hit the agenda item of afk arena farming.

"OK, any suggestions for how to curb this?"

"Well, we could change it so that instead of getting a chance at a drop for every defeat, we just make it so you get a chance every 5 minutes."

"Sounds good, assign it to Joe."

And then Joe blithely implements it. Does a simple test: A kills B and sure enough A gets his rep and a chance at a drop and then can't get another chance for 5 minutes. Joe declares victory and goes back to coding for i16 or Going Rogue, not realizing the problem that has been discussed ad nauseum here, that the 5 minute timer can easily turn into a forever timer.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Yeah I have mentioned before, but I agree. It just seems like they let this one slip through in a "duh" moment. I'm HOPING that the fact this patch hasn't gone live yet means they're reconsidering. But the silence on that front is deafening...

  18. Once I get my first 50, I think I might give a go at "farming" purples. They're the most valuable item in the game that you can actually still GET.
  19. [ QUOTE ]
    Well then it's even worse...

I confess to having never touched AE, so I don't know how much common salvage X number of tickets will translate into. So I have no idea on how profitable salvage rolling would be.

But even if educated marketeers don't have sufficient enticement to roll for salvage and sell, what's to be expected of regular folk? Unless something changes significantly, we may see a long time of outrageous prices on commons...

    [/ QUOTE ]
You may want to see my comments on this very subject in the 2xXP weekend thread.

tl;dr version - It's not worth it from a inf per ticket perspective, but might be worth it if you look at inf per hour and high turnover of common salvage. You're just gonna make a lot more on average from hitting the occasional bronze-roll-jackpot. Flu-shots got a Kinetic Combat 3-way the other night from a bronze roll. 70 tickets for what...10-30m inf? (I haven't checked prices lately) Vs 8 tix for random salvage worth 100k on a good day? High turnover is the only thing that makes it worth considering.

I may have a different perspective, having played Eve Online for a few years before coming here. That's serious PvP. I tried PVP in many other games and it's abundantly clear that the most fun PvP comes from good balance (ie. you can play whatever you want as long as you play it well!)

    [/ QUOTE ]
We're absolutely coming at this from different perspectives.

When I want PvP I fire up an FPS shooter- BF2142 & CoD4 are my currently loaded games.

So in an MMO, I'm just looking for a fun diversion, not a hardcore experience.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Yeah, FPS's are much easier to balance than MMOS's because they amount of options available to you are orders of magnitude smaller. TF2, for example, is an amazingly balanced game, to the point that even I (someone who doesn't really like FPS's in general) like playing it. When they added in the updates with more weapons and maps, they made sure to do it very slowly so that they don't destroy the balance.

If an MMO isn't designed from the start with PvP balance in mind, the PvP is gonna suck. Play any game with tacked on PvP (*ahem* CoX) and you'll see what I mean. Balancing for PvP usually does funny things to PvE and, since the game to that point has been PvE-centric, they risk losing their established customers by messing with PvE balance.

So back to my original point, if they want more people to try PvP, but the PvP isn't fun, they need to make the rewards worth it. Having good rewards but making them unobtainable isn't gonna help anything.
  21. Actually, I've found that the average AE baby doesn't know that the 9999 tickets in their salvage inventory = big bucks. They complain about being poor because they've never been out of AE.

    I know, the mind boggles.

1 - PvP is tacked on in this game and it will never be good.

That's a big statement, but I think we all know it's true. You have to balance the game for PvP to make it good and they will not do that because it would break PvE.

    [/ QUOTE ]
    I disagree.
It's never going to be ideal, but I think it has the potential to be fun.

Yeah, obviously the goal is to get people having fun, but the way to really do that correctly is to have GOOD PvP. Losing over and over again with no hope of winning isn't fun. Balance it out and suddenly even noobs can take out ubers if they work together and know what they're doing. (To draw a parallel from Eve, 5 frigates properly fit and coordinated can take out any single battleship. Every ship fitting has a counter-fitting, every strength has a weakness and it's impossible to build a ship with no weaknesses!) That's fun and that's what will keep people playing, ALONG WITH rewards like pvp drops. PvP drops on their own won't get people PvPing, just farming drops (as has been proven out).

tl;dr version - Good pvp = fun pvp. Make it good, they will come.

  24. [ QUOTE ]
based mostly on storage capacity, 100 IOs in a bin Vs. 30 salvage. I tend to craft to IO store and sell as slots allow. now I am wondering if just rolling 80 commons in AE and listing what I get would be more profit.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Depends how you're looking at your profit. Inf per ticket? Inf per slot? Inf per hour?

Personally, I'm expecting inf per slot and per ticket to be lower than rolling bronzes. However I expect a lot of turnover, which should push inf per hour thru the roof compared to bronze rolls. Even if inf per hour averages out to about the same, the amount of work involved in rolling common salvage vs crapping IO's is significantly less.
  25. Yeah, I saw Sci-Theory going for that much and I just walked over to AE and rolled up 4 out of 15 rolls. 120 tickets saved me quite a bit of inf. I keep wondering when people are going to realize that they don't have to pay these ridiculous sums for common salvage...

That being said, it ain't gonna be by DXP weekend! I'm gonna make a KILLING on common salvage by just rolling em at AE and posting em at Wents, rinse repeat. That's my big prediction. I've already been stocking up on commons purchased on the cheap during mid-week lull.
