So what really is the "best" way to farm for purples? I heard taking on large mobs of lvl 47s when you are lvl 50. Is that correct? Also, where would you recommend I go to find these specific mobs?

Either A) pick up a mission at level 48 and farm it at 50.
or B) try the shadow shard
or C) farm the wall in Cimerora

I've been trying the wall lately and have had no luck what so ever. It's very frustrating, and a friend has been doing it with me and seperately and he reports no purples at all either, BUT I have gotten a few purples from the Shard in the past, but I suggest only going after the Brute Squad because the Wisps and the Elementals are mean... Seriously they took my lunch money.... and called me bad names...

If you only care about purples, the object is to defeat mobs as fast possible. That means using mostly AoE attacks on large spawns. You can get the large spawns by starting an Oro arc with a few friends who have retired chars. Those retired chars never need to log in, but every mission will spawn as if they were there. They act like perma-fillers.

I don't think level affects the drop rate, so you should be able to get equal numbers of purples from level 47 or 52 mobs. Level only affects your kill rate a little bit. Personally I'd rather farm level 50 mobs, just so all the Set IO Recipes are also 50. And if you use Oro, you'll get 50s at least. But there's no reason to go higher.

I had a lot of success using the final mission of the Liberate TV arc redside with my Fire/Psi Dom, farming Nemesis mobs. You'll need to find a mission that is best suited to you, and that depends on your AT and powersets. A Fiery Aura Tanker can farm Fire damage mobs safely. An Empathy Defender is better suited to support, but can do well in the final mission of the ITF just buffing Imperious and letting him kill stuff. So what AT and powersets do you have available for farming?

P.S. Based on my farming results, you earn about 1 purple per 1500 mobs assuming a normal mix of Minions and Lts. So if you get say 100 mobs per cycle farming the Walls of Cimerora, it'll take 15 cycles on average per purple. Track your kills with Hero Stats and let us know how you do.

Goodbye and thanks for all the fish.

Is it better to solo this wall or do a team? Also, where exactly IS the wall?

Teaming is bad. They can steal your purples.

I've done the ITF a couple of times now. Is the wall the gate you enter when doing the ITF towards the end of the arc?

Exactly.
go up to the top of that gate.

if you do team on the Wall only have one teammate because you can really increase your kill rate, and besides if it's busy (which it can be at times ) thats one less person stealing your mobs. A shield/Mace tank and SS/Fire Brute can really lawnmow the pretty little rows of Romans hehe.

It can work. Melee works better in my experience for wall farming though.

Romans hurt!

So then a Scrapper is the best blueside?

tank/scrapper

Yes.

Scrapper might kill a few seconds faster than my tank but not much.

I run an SD/SS tank softcapped to all positions perma double stacked rage.
Here's how it works:
1) run into mob
2) let AAO saturate- I'm now at damage cap
3) shield charge
4) foot stomp
5) hit a few guys with single target attacks if any are still alive
6) use another stomp
7) move on.

Scrapper would be
1) run into mob
1.5) if shields let AAO saturate
2) use an AoE
3) use another AoE
4) hit some lieutenants that lived
5) use another AoE if anything is left.
6) move on

Why not SS?!?! Because I like whackin' things with my MACE!!!!!

Shield/Mace has 4 PBAoE attacks thats why. I herd at least two groups of Romans together, kill the Surgeons while I get AAO nicely full, and then hit BU+Shield Charge which equals mostly dead Minions, then Crowd Control, and lastly Shatter and by then usually everything is down, with the exception of a LT that was missed by Shield Charge or a boss so I maaaay have to use Whirling Mace and maybe go single target to finish off the boss. Then I repeat the process up and down the wall, and it only goes faster with my friends SS/Fire.

Get a farm and run "laps" around it (with fillers). The ones that I would recommend are the family, demon, and/or Battle Maiden. (Demon being my personal favorite...fire shield FTW)

That would work for purples, but i think you would be better off running at level 50 mobs.

I always wanted to roll up a shield brute, but I was having too much fun with my WP brute. Shield scrapper sounds groovy. FOTM AOE brute was shield/elec last I checked. Is there an elec/shield scrapper?

Your fire/kin should be more than fine.

Turn on hot feet. Spawn fire imps. Flash fire mob. Then fire cages. Jump into the mob. Fulcrum shift. Hit them with your big AoE Epic (Fire ball for me). Repeat.

Don't forget to siphon speed as much as possible.

The way soloing the wall spews Inspirations anything with a big pile of AoE attacks works fine.

I'd probably dual-box with my fire/kin and my PBAoE blaster. I have my blaster following the kin, I run kin in, fire cage, siphon power, fulcrum, fireball, smoke (wicked to-hit debuff!), cages, swap to the blaster, aim, buildup (don't forget siphon power and fulcrum!), fire sword circle, ball lightning, short circuit and my other fire pbaoe if anything is still standing (which it usually isn't).

This of course works much better when there's a tank around, but I've got my fire/kin about half-way to soft-cap at this point so he's not taking a TON of dmg.

A Warshade with perma-Eclipse is a wall-wrecker, big time. AoE, 3 AoE pets up blasting away, 85% resist(all), and a heal that restores 100% health/endurance every 12s if you have bodies, along with self-buffs that are stronger for more mobs.
