I've been noticing some odd things with the new difficulty settings too.
I've been running my Warshade on -1x3 (no bosses, no AVs) for the last few days. Last night when fighting some Council I had a Lt. turn into a Warwolf when defeated. Not unusual right? Except for one small problem: he turned into a Warwolf boss. And I was solo, set to "no bosses when solo".
Also the spawn sizes themselves seem whacky. I keep getting these enormous spawns and thinking to myself "is 16 mobs really a 3 person spawn?" I mean, how do we go from 2-3 mobs for a solo player equals 15 or 16 for three people? -
Just a quick update. My Warshade is 35 now, and I'm still enjoying him.
I've learned as I level him that when I approach a spawn, one of two things is going to happen: all the mobs will be dead in 10 seconds or less. . .or I will be. Which makes every fight rather interesting.
I'm looking forward to Eclipse at 38 to see how it affects things. Probably around that time is when I will start slotting some sets too. I'm just using regular SO's at the moment. -

Ever since I16 hit, I've noticed an incredibly annoying new "feature" of CoH that I can't believe no one has commented on here on the forums.
If another player so much as brushes against my character, I'm sent skidding across the floor. I've had this cause no end of problems, from misplacing Ice Patch on my Ice/Ice Tanker, to only hitting a couple of mobs with Sunless Mire on my Warshade.
It got on my nerves so badly with my Tanker that I have pretty much stopped playing any melee characters for the moment. I could only stand Fire Blaster 0499 just HAVING to be in melee and sending me skidding around for so long. And heaven help you if there is more than one melee toon in the group.
So has no one else noticed this? My entire SG has commented on it, so I can't believe it's just us imagining things. -
Quote:Ah thank you! I didn't even think about that.Your bind is backwards. The bind checks from right to left so you need your quantum/void binds to the right side.
Try something like this:
/bind t "target_enemy_next$$target_custom_next cyst$$target_custom_next quantum$$target_custom_next void"
If you want to avoid targeting dead quantums and voids try this:
/bind t "target_enemy_next$$target_custom_next enemy alive cyst$$target_custom_next enemy alive quantum$$target_custom_next enemy alive void" -
Well I tried creating the bind in notepad, and just typing it out directly in the game. Neither one works. In fact, the behavior I'm seeing is the exact opposite of what is intended. The bind will let me cycle through targets with no issue at all, but it will not target a quantum/void, etc. It just skips right over them every time as if they are not there. Any ideas what could be causing that?
-
Quote:I'll give it a shot. Thanks!A frequent reason for a correctly typed bind to not work in-game is that the quotations in the bind that are copied into the game chat function are in Windows format, instead of plain text format.
One of the possible cures is straightforward. Save your bind files as plain text files. Open them in a text editor (not MS Word), then copy & paste out of them into the game chat function. That way, you'll avoid Windows formatting issues, such as with quotation marks.
There may be more elegant solutions that others know about and that are more efficient. But, this is what I do and it will definitely prevent Windows formatting issues from messing up your binds. -
I've been setting up several binds for my warshade and found one that isn't working at all. I've looked it over and don't see anything wrong with it. I was hoping that someone knew a way to get it to function. The bind is:
/bind t "target_custom_next cyst$$target_custom_next quantum$$target_custom_next void$$target_enemy_next"
My goal is to have it auto-target any quantum/void/cyst in a spawn, and if there is none there just target a regular enemy. Well, I've confirmed numerous times the bind simply doesn't work. I'm in game looking at a Galaxy Quantum right now and the bind just skips right over him. Any ideas for getting the keybind to behave itself?
Thanks in advance for any tips! -
Quote:I joined a Positron TF after making my above post and proceeded to get 9 levels in that one TF. (gotta love double xp) And yes, I took Stygian Circle last night, and it is amazing.Welcome the the world of warshades.
You have so much to look forward to: Gravity Well, Stygian Circle, Gravitic Emanation, Stygian Circle, Dark Extraction, Stygian Circle, Eclipse, Stygian Circle.
Oh, there's also Stygian Circle.
P.S. Take Stygian Circle!
Thanks for the welcome. -
Well after far too many years playing CoH I finally kept my alt-itis under control long enough to hit 50 on a hero. I immediately created my Warshade, Starless Knight. He's only 15 so far, and all I have to say is....WOW!
This is easily the most fun I've had in CoH in a very long time. I think I'm in love. My only concern is....what the devil are the children going to look like??
There now that that is off my chest, time to go play with my Warshade some more. -

The Cape is an excellent station. Even though I don't normally play on Virtue I still like to listen to it. And the in-character commercials they do are hilarious! -
Quote:1 Ice/Ice Tank. He was really easy to soft cap.So there is a lot of talk these days about soft-capping. I do not have any soft-capped toons right now, but I plan to soft cap my MA/SR within the next few months.
So Im curious
How many soft-capped toons do you have? Builds?
How many of your other toons do you plan to soft cap?
Do the terms soft cap and hard cap make you giggle?
None at this time.
Nope. -
Robot/Dark MasterMind.
Being all ranged, the bots require very little micromanaging compared to some other MM sets. And /Dark has several control options baked in on top of the debuffs.
And then there is the part about you being a living god in PvE. . . . -
Strawberrry.
Next month will be chocolate.
On a more serious note, I know I have seen a veritable horde of Shield/ and Elec/ tanks lately. In fact, my Ice/ tank is the only Icer I think I've seen in at least two months.
Can't really speak to the other AT's. I just noticed the tanks because that is the AT I'm leveling at the moment so I pay more attention to them. -
Quote:It's a recipe that gives you a temporary power when you craft it. In this case, a baseball bat.was doing a zombie raid last night and came out with this weird recipe for a st.louis slammer....or something like that, I'm at work and can't check myself. Anyone wanna tell a noobie what this is? And more importantly, how much it might sell for on the bm?
I'm not sure what it would go for though. I don't usually get much when I try to sell temp powers. -

Quote:Heh, you make it sound like we're getting pinged by a new contact every few seconds instead of every few levels. Please god, no. I don't need any more contacts being able to spam me with more popups. The other day, I logged in one of my old characters, and had about a dozen different contacts popup- I just wanted to play! If I was interested in those contacts, I'd go find them.
Seriously, the only way I'd support more contact spam is if they give us an option to turn them off.
The only time I've seen it be more than one (maybe two) at a time was when logging in characters that had not been played in a really long time. Hardly a reason to protest the tailors being added to the list of unlocked contacts, imho. -
Quote:The only problem with that explanation for not giving us a bank/atm system of some kind is the fact that we can trade influence/infamy at all. I get the RP reason behind what Influence is supposed to be. But it doesn't hold up.A bank in this game would not make cannon sense, and here's why influence and infamy while money in a sense is only that. We are not hired heroes and villians. If your house catches on fire and a fireman puts it out, do pay him $10,000. NO you don't that is their job to save lives. You will have a great deal of respect for that person and tell many people about it. That person now has some influence in the community.
Killing servers is never a good idea, I have a few toons with the same name on different servers. If those servers were merged I would lose at least one of them.
I say yes to a bank system of some kind allowing same account transfers from one character to another. I say no to any kind of merging or shutting down of any servers though. -
I'm in the same boat as the OP, only ten levels to go until my first 50 hero.
Last night I reserved the name Starless Knight for my Warshade. To be honest I was stunned it wasn't taken. -
Quote:Sadly, though this is a highly reasonable and logical suggestion, it will most likely fall on deaf ears. So many people want to be invited to someone else's team, rather than make one of their own.Or, of course, they could just get together and make their own teams. Seeing as there will be so many of them without.
Quote:Finding a team is like dating. Stop acting like a fairy princess waiting for a prince to propose and go out and ask some people out yourself. -
Well to all you folks demanding server consolidations, here's food for thought:
I just checked every single US server. My main hero's name is already taken on ALL of them. That means there are 11 people counting myself with characters that all have the exact same name as my hero's. Which one of us gets to keep it? And that's only one character. Think about all the people that have alts spread across multiple servers. And SG's with duplicate names.
A server consolidation would be a nightmare of forced character/SG renaming. No thank you. Some people have characters that are several years old. Even those people would stand a chance to lose their character names, depending on the criteria used by the Devs for resolving conflicts in a server consolidation.
I've said it before and I'll say it again: in my opinion a forced server merge would do more harm than good to the community of this game. -
Quote:Damage is very low.So what is the damage like with Ice/Ice tankers now? I solo mostly. I had an ice/ice tank before, but he did such crappy damage, even up to the early 40s that I deleted him.
My Ice/Ice is 36, so I don't have Frozen Aura yet. I have heard it does very good damage (comparable to Foot Stomp). However, given the very low damage of the rest of the set, I'm not expecting a lot.
That being said, the low damage ceased to be an issue at all for me after I got Energy Absorption. On the rare occasion I do solo him, I pretty much have infinite Endurance so it doesn't matter. Mobs take a little longer to kill, but they can't exactly kill me either. And that was pretty much what I was going for with this character. I wanted a tough as nails tank that could hold aggro well and wasn't Stone. Ice delivers in that department. -
Thank you for very much for the tips guys. It did indeed help a lot. Now my build actually achieves my goal and I have extra slots to move around and play with.
Here is what I ended with after the feedback.

I'm currently leveling my first Tanker, and loving every second of it.
I decided tonight to try out making a soft-capped build for him. Since this is my first attempt at doing any kind of build with a Tanker at all, much less something like soft-capping one, I figure I probably made quite a few mistakes that aren't readily apparent to me. Below is my build. I'd appreciate any input on how I could improve it. Thanks in advance for any help!
(Note: For this initial draft I didn't place the slots "naturally" as I would when leveling, so some of the levels slots got placed in various powers may look a little odd. That is something I would plan to fix for the final build.)
