I Think I'm in Love

Well after far too many years playing CoH I finally kept my alt-itis under control long enough to hit 50 on a hero. I immediately created my Warshade, Starless Knight. He's only 15 so far, and all I have to say is....WOW!

This is easily the most fun I've had in CoH in a very long time. I think I'm in love. My only concern is....what the devil are the children going to look like??

There now that that is off my chest, time to go play with my Warshade some more.

Welcome the the world of warshades.

You have so much to look forward to: Gravity Well, Stygian Circle, Gravitic Emanation, Stygian Circle, Dark Extraction, Stygian Circle, Eclipse, Stygian Circle.

Oh, there's also Stygian Circle.

P.S. Take Stygian Circle!

Debt barely slows down levelling these days. It's just a little bar that measures how much Awesome you've generated recently. (If you're not getting debt, you're just not trying to generate Awesome hard enough.) -Kelenar

I joined a Positron TF after making my above post and proceeded to get 9 levels in that one TF. (gotta love double xp) And yes, I took Stygian Circle last night, and it is amazing.

Thanks for the welcome.

Welcome to Kheldians, and have fun with your Warshade, they last much longer that just 50 levels

If you're ever going to give PB's a chance, I suggest you do that before diving too deep into Warshades because most people don't like PB's much after falling for their Warshades

LOL, well I guess you can toss me into that pile of people that LOVE their Peacebringer after loving a Warshade. I used to love my Warshades more than a lot of my other characters but then I just got bored of them and ended up deleting a her. After missing her I ended up making another Warshade and leveled her to 39 before once again getting bored.

I can honestly say I have never had that problem with my Peacebringer. I used to be Pro-Warshade all day long and I do miss Eclipse more than anything, but I just can't get the same enjoyment from them as I used to.

Anyways, to the OP welcome to the wonderfulness that is Warshaddes. I hope you keep your love for them.

PS, Eclipse is better than Stygian Circle

Novella, you and I both! I too love my PB to bits, and don't get me wrong, I love my TriFormShade™(s) as well, it's just that... the PB is very self sufficient and doesn't require enemies around, defeated or alive, so I always know what I can expect from her. It lends itself to a more... relaxing experience that I favor these days over the frantic 'Shade gameplay.

I've seen many more posts discussing Warshades than Peacebringers, and before this version of the forums, you could find several threads discussing how disappointing it felt to go from a WS to a PB, and how satisfying going from a PB to a WS was.

I have noticed that lately a lot of Warshades are popping up and I can only assume that is because they do a lot of AoE damage and people love to use them for farming, etc. I love my Peacebringers more because as you said they are self sufficient. I have my Peacebringer slotted for +rech (80% global + 70% Hasten) and being able to heal very rapidly and have perma-EB is just love. With all the tools included in the powerset its just so much goodness that I sometimes feel like I am cheating.

When I first made a Kheldian it was a Warshade and I loved her because she was more Controller-like with an element of Blaster. I played her hard and when I got ot Eclipse I was just in awe. From level 38 to 46 it was bliss, but then it just got boring playing her because of the constant need to have bodies around to keep myself in top condition.

I deleted her and stayed away from Kheldians for a long time until I got that Warshade itch again and made another one. This time I was even more into her than last time and ran her in TFs, teams, anything involving exp. Again boredom struck so I deleted her a level 39 this time.

After always avoiding Peacebringers I decided to make one in place of my recently deleted Warshade and let me tell you.............I've never looked back. Aura Star has been a beast from day one and mixes the beauty of all the things I like. She doesn't have the Controlling ability of a Warshade but she has enough tools that she can completely negate a group minus Bosses (I kill them while the others are out of the fight) all the while not requiring anything or anyone to keep her upright.

Its probably safe to say that outside of Night Widow's, the Peacebringer (human-only) is my favorite AT on the game without a doubt.

Is there something you are trying to achieve with your Peacebringer?

There is no real goal for my PB yet. I just got it into level 50 playing mostly with dual build (Nova/Dwarf) human form being travel/stealth/healer, while it is quite fun to play I am not happy to it's performance yet. So I am very interested in what people have achieved with peacebringers generally.

I'm recently back after a year and have cast my eye toward my low level PB a few times but not logged in with her yet. Her concept is human form only; i'd love to see your build.

Fair enough. My opinion of Peacebringers has always been that you need to have a plan on what you want them to do before you even make them because they are a lot more utilitarian than a Warshade or any other AT for that matter. When I had my Warshades I knew that she would be Blaster/Mitigator until 38, and then Blaster/Tanker until 50. Warshades are very straight forward where as Peacebringers are not, at least in my opinion.

Once you have a general sense of what you want to do outside of being either fulltime Nova or Dwarf it will help you see what you can achieve with them.

I replied to your message.

You should log her own and start leveling her up. Human form Peacebringers are awesome. Those that love Blasters with melee and ranged will love human form Peacebringers even more because you have mitigation in the form of shields, you can help and with a good team build you can basically be running around with Scrapper level resistance caps and Blaster damage.

Below you will find my build as it appears on the live servers. All of the IOs in the build are level 40 with the exception of the Soulbound Allegiance IOs.

Novella, thanks for showing your build. Seems very interesting.
I am curious how to you handle knockbacks? When I tested pure human PB not having KB protection was unbearable to me.

So, I planned something like this with normal IO's and I am not very happy to it. So I am pretty much banging my head into wall with human PB atm.

If I understand her build correctly, Novella doesn't usually have to worry about being knocked-back because she simply flies into an enemy group and hits them with her AoE's which are aggressively slotted. I know most minions do not survive Photon Seekers, and Dawn Strike used in conjunction with Photon Seekers will usually take out almost everything else. Popping a Blue and using Lightform is a good exit-strategy and the whole fight should not take long enough for KB to become a problem, at least not when all goes according to plan.

Am I right, Novella?

Knockback has never been an issue for me. The only time I am on the ground is when I use Solar Flare and since that has good knockback that pretty much clears the area of anyone that would knock me back. If I do not open with SF I will open with Pulsar which will stun enemies and I can then follow up with Build Up and Solar Flare. I stay in Combat Flight most of the time.

Also with my recharge I can keep Pulsar and Solar Flare up very often so they are ready every group and sometimes multiple times in a group. I also use Photon Seekers very often and that mitigates damage while dealing realy good damage. Right now I have her doing Daedelus' arc and last night against some 52s she was able to do 100+100+100 to the near by targets when I used Photon Seekers.

If you need some advice on your build just send me a PM with any questions you may have and I would be happy to help you if I am able.

No, it's a combination of a few things... First, you can get the signature bar itself by getting your character on City Info Tracker from the Titan Network.

Secondly (after getting the signature image bar from CIT), in order to fit as many characters into one small space by animating them, I had to go to another site, located here, to get the animated look you see now.

The "catch" for the second site is... It creates an animated .gif of all the userbar signatures you specify. Therefore, your character's badges shown will not "auto update" as they do normally--i.e., if you chose to just post one or two main characters straight from the CIT sig bar link given by the Titan Network. For example, my user-created signature is already "old", as at least 6 or 7 of the listed characters have many, many more badges on them than what's currently shown.

However, my main intent wasn't to "show how many badges my characters have"... It was to show a good portion of the variety of characters that I've created thus far.

Hopefully, it worked...

76 characters and Twenty-four 50s later, I still love this game.

That pretty much sums it up exactly.
So I feared. Flying is not an option to me, everytime I do it I feel that I am wearing fook me boots . I just cannot stand the idea of flying around and fighting with melee oriented attacks. Also skill that burns out my all endurance is not an option to me because it leaves your toon too vulnerable. I guess I am pretty much still banging my head to wall with pure human PB and there is no solution unless there will be developmental intervention to skills . I stick with my dual form build, it is playable but wont shine when compared to other AT's. Nova damage is ok and sometimes I feel that I can outdamage poor playing blasters but I guess it is just an illusion of grandeur.
I have max slotted Nova and Dwarf for set bonuses. Going to finish those and probably then switch back to Warshade which seems to have lot of more potential than PB.

Zorn, you can buy IO's that negate knockback in case you didnt know.

As you are in my SG I might be persuaded to put my hand in my pocked for you if you cannot afford one?

Edit: Also the illusion of damage in nova form isn't such an illusion, with two fast AoE's you can give a lot of blasters a run for their money and only the really AoE heavy ones will outdamage you enough to matter.

Could you please say what ones you have in mind? I don't know of any way to negate knockback using IOs

Well we (Might be me, might be you, not sure lol) might be confused about which kind of KB.

You can mitigate the KB being cast at you with IO's like Karma or Blessing of the Zephyr (Which is what I think Zorn was on about), but you can't do anything about the amount of KB you cause with your attacks (Apart from increase it!).

Just a quick update. My Warshade is 35 now, and I'm still enjoying him.
I've learned as I level him that when I approach a spawn, one of two things is going to happen: all the mobs will be dead in 10 seconds or less. . .or I will be. Which makes every fight rather interesting.

I'm looking forward to Eclipse at 38 to see how it affects things. Probably around that time is when I will start slotting some sets too. I'm just using regular SO's at the moment.
