It's a common way of sorting out connection problems to web pages or anything with a host name. If the DNS cache is corrupt (as sometimes happens) clearing it just forces the client to contact the outside ISP DNS server for the address rather than using the locally cached record.
You won't have to reboot the machine. It's the same command in Vista; it's a shell command and these haven't changed since DOS. -

I hear that if you say her name 3 times, she'll appear, and read out a sentence of NPC text from I13
[/ QUOTE ]
Interestingly I was in Steel Canyon the other day, and an NPC said "[Hero-Name]? I could have sworn he was a villain".
Hint of prepartory text for a Going Rogue system? Or am I reading too much into it :P -
You've obviously never seen me play.
I'm a newb. Trust me. -
Don't throw your toys out just because people don't like your idea. Speaking personally, I don't want PVP in a PVE zone under any circumstances; be it with PVP flags or through any other overly complicated device you care to mention. If PVP was something that a large enough portion of the player base wanted, a lot more people would go into the zones that have been designated for it.
They don't, so it isn't. -
I'm still an MMO newb in comparison; even though I'm a 20+ year gaming veteran, I've only recently gotten into multiplayer gaming in anything like a big way. CoX was my first MMO and that's probably why it's got a special place in my heart as much as anything else. They do say, after all, that you "never forget your first"

just a quicky - you should not compare blasters to corruptors due to the fact corrs are more like defenders than blasters
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm not comparing them as ATs or the way they play. I'm just literally looking at set combination possibilities.
Sapphic. Thanks for that.
Yup I was wrong. I'll shut up now.

I say it's possible. I just don't think it's likely.
I also say I could be wrong. *shrug* -

Dual Blades and Willpowers are accessible to Scrappers, Brutes and Tankers. And to a certain extent Stalkers, but for them both sets are modified.
And Scrappers and Brutes both have Dual Blades as primary and Willpower as secondary, For tankers just swap em around.
And those aren't the only sets, There's fire melee + fire armor. dark melee + dark armor, super reflexes, invuln. And prob something more i forgot.
Corruptors and Defenders share alot of sets they're just flipped primary vs secondary. Storm, fire blast, etc etc. Mastermind Secondary as well.
Then Dominators and Controllers share their primary.
So your arguments that no AT have have the two same primary and/or secondary is pretty much flawed.
[/ QUOTE ]
No. I didn't say and / or. I said that it is not possible for two different ATs to have the same primary AND secondary. The only exception to that rule is DB / WP. Tanks and Brutes share the same pool of sets, but the primaries and secondaries are reversed. Brutes and Scrappers share the same secondaries, but the primaries are different. Blasters and Corrupters have the same primaries, but the secondaries are different. THAT's what I'm talking about. Scrappers and Stalkers share some of the same primaries and secondaries, in that you could get a claws / regen scrapper and a claws / regen stalker, but even then technially they're different primaries because of the changes needed for stalkers and their AS attack. -

I couldn't see mace / axe on scrappers, nor broadsword / claws on brutes, particularly if there's any truth in the going rogue system.
[/ QUOTE ]
I don't follow your reasoning.
[ QUOTE ]
Would like to see Lec / Lec on Tanks, regen on brutes and further proliferation of the less common sets.
[/ QUOTE ]
Powersets that need a lot of work to rebalance are less likely, and Electric Armour would be horribly underpowered on tanks, and regen would be horribly overpowered on brutes, without significant alterations.
[/ QUOTE ]
Point 1 - If you want a claws brute, roll a claws scrapper and "rogue" him. Ditto with axe scrappers; build an axe brute and turn him into a good guy. At the moment, all of the set combinations are compeltely unique. No two different ATs can have the same primary and secondary. I'd imagine the devs would prefer to keep it this way.
Point 2 - In i12, the powers moved over where chosen because they were the simplest to move without too many major tweaks and changes. I agree that Lec armour for tanks would be underpowered, and to a lesser extent that regen would be overpowered for brutes if they were direct ports. However, there's nothing to say that if these sets were chosen, they wouldn't have the necessary changes made to make them "right" -

err you seem to all gone from seeing red to a state of giddy stupidness. Should I just accept this thread as a total faceplant and accept noone really has a clue what ~I'm opn about?

We do know what you're on about. We just don't agree.
Faceplants; is this the new fad of personal "decoration".. "Yes Mr Tattoo / Piercer man I'd like a Dahlia on my mush please" -
Interestingly my first reaction to this was to complete the line of a Metallica song.. "Am I Evil? Yes I <expletive> am."
This is the one "Good Thing" about PVP zones. Need to deal with an IGP (Irritating Gobby Pillock)? Well in there, you can(I can't tho.. I suck @ teh pee vee pee

Someone hit the nail on the head in another thread; CoX is built around the MM bit of the whole MMO experience. Too many other games that I've played (most notably Age of Conan and EvE) are brilliant SOLO games, but grouping in them is clunky and ultimately not that rewarding.
CoX has the right mix for this; you get the best out of it if you group up with other people, but you can still solo if you want to. Added to that, there really is bucket loads of "fun" to be had, and that is always something that is a very difficult thing to put into a game ironically enough.
It's also quite nice that with certain characters, playing them is almost therapeutic. Had a bad day at the office or a bit of road rage? Load up your stone / fire brute and do a mayhem mission. Anger management at its very best
CoX is proof that a great game doesn't have to have cutting graphics or overly complicated features, it just has to be something you grin like a pillock at when playing. That's why I'll never cancel my subs to it, even if I do have brief sabaticals now and then. -
I couldn't see mace / axe on scrappers, nor broadsword / claws on brutes, particularly if there's any truth in the going rogue system. For concept reasons I couldn't really see Firey Aura on stalkers either. Bit difficult to hide if your body is engulfed in flame.
And trying desperately not to be picky, but failing miserably, Jay, you got the Defender primary and secondary mixed up with the fire powers
Would like to see Lec / Lec on Tanks, regen on brutes and further proliferation of the less common sets. More psi, dark and sonics; think we have enough fire and ice personally. -
I don't think Mondays should be nerfed, they should be buffed! Clearly underperforming in the happiness stakes are Mondays. Only problem to balance the Monday buff, Fridays would need to be nerfed - so actually I'd rather keep Mondays as they are.
As for the OP, I think you're overplaying the extent of these tweaks that we're getting in all honesty; as has already been said, the actual noticeable effect of these adjustments is pretty negligable, and I think edges on the side of a buff. Certainly the axe and claws pause tweaks make the attack chains "flow" better, so that even if you're not doing more damage, it feels like you are because you have more fun doing so, if that makes any sense.
I also think that playing this game purely by numbers takes the soul and the fun out of it (for me at least) -

The solution would be getting enough people constantly into the PvP zones that there'd always be inexperienced players on both sides, allowing them to still be able to beat at least some targets.
How to accomplish that? I don't really see any way other than cross-server PvP zones. (and that would most likely mean cross-atlantic as well)
[/ QUOTE ]
This.
Part of the reason FPS' like BF2142 are so much fun is largely for this reason. You'll be on a map with 100 players, 49 of whom are also on your side. There's always going to be people who are better than you, and probably a fair few people of the same or lower ability than you. This doesn't make the learning curve any less steep, but at least the progress is a little more palatable.
There have been two times I've been in a PVP zone and enjoyed it. One of those was the RV event on the test server. Lots of people, varying abilities, which meant that it wasn't just a death / hospital / rez fest.
At the moment if I go into a PVP zone, I'll spend 10 minutes just trying to FIND another player (given than most of them are moving around trying to avoid stalkers, right?), and then all that happens is a few brief exhanges and I'm deed.
I'm not interested in PVP enough to want to organise 1 v 1s in arena and such like to get better at it, so I generally just don't bother. PVE, alting, having a laugh with my SG mates and the very occasional bit of causal RP is more than enough to tick my boxes and keep me occupied.
Interestingly, my SG does have a couple of quite hardcore PVP players regularly organise SG PVP events aimed at everyone taking part. Usually in these events I regularly get my backside handed to me on a plate, as you would expect. I don't bemoan that fact, or expect anything else but I think if you're not committed to playing PVP, or at least not committed to getting better at it, the difference in skill levels between the people that DO pvp and the people that don't is too large (given the relatively small population) for the people that don't to get in to it.
To put it another way. If you want to PVP in Co* I think you have to start from the premise of "I am going to play PVP". If you start from "I'm not sure about PVP, but I'll give it a go", I think you're far more likely to be put off by it, and I think that's why it's unpopular as it is. -

personally, I think the lack of reward is an issue for people not enganging in PvP as well. It is for me anyway.
[/ QUOTE ]
The reward is FUN! You missing the whole point of playing this game?
[/ QUOTE ]
Depends how you define fun? PVP is not fun as often as PVE is, for me. You'll experience fun from PVP if you like it. If you don't like it, it ain't fun.
Simple really -
I wonder of the people that don't PVP what proprtion of those people come under the various reasons, namely "I don't PVP because:"
* It's difficult to get in to
* Put off by trash talk
* I'm not interested in combat against other players / I prefer PVE
* PVP mechanics are broken / imbalanced
Personally, I'd have thought most of the non PVPers would come under the first 3 categories. If you wanted to PVP, reason 4 probably wouldn't bother you that much, because you'd find ways of getting round it. If you didn't want to PVP, it wouldn't matter how well implemented it was, you probably still wouldn't?
Fair? Or have I missed the point entirely? -
If you mouse over the power bar in the enh management screen it tells you there how much (in %) the power has been enhanced by. Resistances / Defense tends to max out at around 60%, while everything else at around 100%, as well as now giving you the actual base and enhanced numerical values. Not sure what else you'd need to know?

Some sort of visual indicator for whether a power is too far away from your targeted foe to use, or within range.
[/ QUOTE ]
I was thinking something similar.
A visual indication that the next power you've selected after the one activating is in range.
For example I fire off exploding arrow and key up fist full of arrows to fire next, it would be nice to know that it's in range before exploding arrow goes off so I'll know to switch powers or be ready to move closer instead of standing arround like a fool.
[/ QUOTE ]
No thanks.. the game is too easy as it is. If this were implemented, I'd prefer it to be an option. Just by playing my ranged characters, I get to know when foes are in range and when they're not for a specific power, just like a skilled archer knows how far back to pull his bow for his arrow to hit the target. -
Or just one of those little old men in a scruffy jacket with a wooden plackard around their necks that says "THE END OF THE WORLD IS NIGH" in beg red letters.

"Debate" and "Argument" fit into the same broad category of "disagreement", but one is a rational discussion of opposing views, where as the other... well.... isn't.

Which is a good thing - arguments don't make the forum look very good to new players - plus, it's just nicer to be nice.

These are still the most friendly, newbie-kind boards of any MMO that I've ever seen. You want a good example of "likely to put new players off", go and see the AoC boards. -

There may be both sarcasm and seriousness in this post

I wouldn't expect anything less from you MA
I take your point that given how dynamic the human condition is, there are some of us who would fit into both boxes depending on what kind of day they'd had, how well they felt they gelled with the other players and countless other factors. Additionally, there could be a situation that would turn one type to the other mid session.
I'm just curious to know given the choice what kind of character people would prefer to be on their team. Or to put it another way; if you find both kinds of character irritating, which would do you head in the quickest? -
A player who appears to find humour in everything no matter how off the wall or tenuous the link and doesn't shut up, or a player who has no sense of humour whatsoever and takes everything too seriously?
