Which is more irritating...
Must be Sunday...
What's even worse? Someone who fluctuates between both extremes - serious in one moment, completely sarcastic at the next?
Whilst we do all fit into some boxes (especially the amateur contortionists), sometimes we fit into more than one at the same time.
Of course, someone who has no sense of humour whatsoever and takes everything too seriously, shouldn't actually be taken too seriously themselves (unless they happen to be in charge of a stockpile of nuclear weapons)
There may be both sarcasm and seriousness in this post

I wouldn't expect anything less from you MA
I take your point that given how dynamic the human condition is, there are some of us who would fit into both boxes depending on what kind of day they'd had, how well they felt they gelled with the other players and countless other factors. Additionally, there could be a situation that would turn one type to the other mid session.
I'm just curious to know given the choice what kind of character people would prefer to be on their team. Or to put it another way; if you find both kinds of character irritating, which would do you head in the quickest?

I think when you're in a team of four or five people and someone cracks a joke or says something funny, if everyone replies with "LOL" or "HAHA" except for one guy then I wouldn't have a problem with that. Maybe he just can't be bothered typing (yeah, I know he has no sense of humour, but you wouldn't know that just from him not saying lol). If he gobs off "THAT WASN'T FUNNY, GO DIE" then I think he'd get kicked pretty quickly. However, a player that laughs his butt off at the faintest thing would also be annoying. Probably at first it would be funny, but get more and more irritating as the mission went on.
Having a soft spot for using and ^^ as well as many glaring typing errors ingame (mostly mixing up N and G from -ing to make -ign) I'd say I fall into the "finds humour in everything" subset most of the time. I know it's annoying because people like me annoy me - being a hypocrite is great.
On the other hand, I'm sure someone (although no-one is entirely possible) has noticed that I can get a little too serious in my... discussions, on this board. Again, this type of person annoys me, so I'm a bigger hypocrite.
So, to answer the question - someone who is both extremes but does not allow others to be the same is the type of person who annoys me - I can't stand hypocrites!

I try to make any team I'm in a bit light hearted. I feel things flow smoother if everyone is having a bit of a laugh and not so worried about everyone in the team doing everything perfectly. I guess I'm kind of the middle ground between someone who takes things seriously and someone who is just in it for a laugh.

Having me on the team is probably the most irritating.
DON'T eat muffins while I'm developing you.
Pants! Turkey Magnates! A man in a box! Rogue AI! Come one, come all, to arc ID 10107 - It's 'Not as long as some other arcs'!
Especially if you do that with your fingers on the keyboard all the time you're in the team.. You'd be very unpredictable if you did (Talking about your Steve Cougan thing incase you were wondering. I'd understand if it took you a little while to get it. It is Sunday after all.. Hehe)

I rarely team up, mostly because I ignore blind invites or when people do actually ask me to join it's 5 mins before I need to go to work/go to bed (typical)
But I love it when I do get into teams that can see the humor in things, like the last time i got into a group, one teammate accidently spelled "wakie" with an extra "N" in there (to make a [Bad Word]), made us all laugh, and none of us could not manage not to call them [Bad Word] when we needed one, was great fun
People who forget it's only a Computer Game, normally the no sense of humour people imho.

That sure would wake me up
I'm happy with both, I do like abit of a laugh in-game (When I can be bothered) but if no one else does then fine I won't play. I have had fellow team-mates say things like "thats not funny" or sarcastically say "you should write comedy" (to which I said I do and channel 4 gave me an award for it), I just tend to ignore them and let them stew in their humour-less world.

IMO none are that annoying, it's more annoying when you have 2 ppl with a believe, and they curse you because you have jokes others do like.
like Jutish and Christian jokes, it's fun for most ppl, but the ones who believe in that are serious offended for no reason :S
I have to say i thought that it would be newbies (such as myself) sometimes i have to ask about anacronyms and other bits of slang but i have yet to find someone in game or in the forums that hasnt been welcoming. (this is a good thing) Although keeping to the subject i have to say misusing the broadcast chat is becoming annoying last night there was a team using broadcast and when told they were using just ignored me and a few others.

Well, you might want to just not tell those jokes in company when you don't know who it is you're telling them to and what their beliefs are.
I mean they're hardly offended for no reason, you're mocking their beliefs.

Yeah, and that goes for politics too - I think the best jokes for an MMO involve something to do with the MMO itself, and as CoH doesn't take itself too seriously, there's plenty of stuff to have fun with without bringing in religion or politics.

It's not just jokes about race and belief that are a bit below the belt. I saw a hero the other day named "Stupid Emo Boy" and although I'm not an Emo myself, others found it offensive, which is very understandable.

Chuck Norris is so strong, he could take out Statesman in one punch, because Statesman is a d***!
See what I did there? I combined a Chuck Norris joke with a Statesman joke! I'm soo cool!!! WOOP!

Why? He might have been a very stupid boy who was also an emo?
I don't tend to offend easily and quite welcome people to make jokes at my expense as long as they're able to take a joke themselves. However on areas of great importance (as already stated people's beliefs are very important to some and not for mocking!) I tend to censor myself until a joke has been made and received warmly...then I never stop.

A player who appears to find humour in everything no matter how off the wall or tenuous the link and doesn't shut up, or a player who has no sense of humour whatsoever and takes everything too seriously?
