  1. I have no idea how many are partnered to mentors, and have gotten no feedback yet since I've been pretty much out of commission for the last 2 months.

There are 10 officially registered mentors right now, most being on Protector.

    Why do you ask?
  2. The Mentor Project, albeit still in the initial phase of gathering experienced mentors, has now gone cross-server.

More info can be had here: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=202775

Once I get my vid card replaced the next phase of promoting this amongst the new players will start.

    Well done Protector.

I'll be shooting you an invite to the social group Justaris.

Meanwhile, for those who haven't filled it in yet, here is the form.

Xalaqia: you already had a pending invite to the Mentor Project social group here.

Check the forums it's listed. I don't use globals, so I really don't care. But I still can find teams - sometimes - when I'm the one running a team...
Jello shooters is actually a multi-purpose channel on Protector, having been originally created to coordinate Hamidon raids.

Having been on Protector almost 6 years now, and having sampled the other servers here and there, I tend to prefer lower population servers where anonymity isn't so easy to hide behind and you get that "everybody knows your name" feeling.

As for population - another vote for Freedom / Virtue for the 2 top spots. If you're into PvP, Freedom is where the action happens now.
  6. So sorry to hear that WRider.

I think one of the most frustrating things to have to go through is seeing loved ones suffer without being able to help in a tangible manner.

What's left can be just as beneficial thought: being supportive, patient and present during this trial.

I'll be praying for you both as well.

Everyone likes to talk/complain about AE noobs etc. but it's hard to find people to actually step up and help new players out. I actually saw this in @enrious's sig so came to look at the thread.
When Enrious joined the channel I think he was the first non-Protectorite. Seems like he knows his stuff and was very willing to help out.

Invite to the group sent to you, as for the channel it's a public one so whenever you have room, pop in and I'll OP you (like all mentors).

Whatever server mentors hail from is fine by me really.

Even though Protector initiated this some time ago (not by me, but I was at the right place at the right time to inherit coordinating this great idea), someone had already suggested that other servers could be interested in forming their own New Player Councils and participating / promoting the Mentor Project.

Glad to see the interest from our neighbours.

On Protector, I did do the broadcast and request channel announcements when I was on more regularly. It was also announced directly on the Protector server (where the idea originated) and then in Player Events before Christmas. another round of promotion is bound to come up when I can log back in more regularly.

I think most veterans are looking at this mentoring and thinking the same as you about availability.

But really, if one wants to become a "generic" mentor, only responding in the N P C channel as time permits, that's perfectly fine too. In fact, that's how I'm involved personally right now (no one to one partnerships).

Plus, Virtue would probably require someone more familiar with that server itself, given its penchant for roleplaying. Heck, my son could probably help out too since he's on that server almost as much as on Protector.

    Mentor Project

Well Phillygirl, I have to say that the response has not been as enthusiastic as originally estimated.

This may be due to several causes:

1 - My own prolonged absence from Paragon City (busted graphics card)
2 - Discussions about the idea led me to think, based on the amount of feedback at that time, that there would be more volunteer mentors. This has not turned out to be so.
3 - Public relations / promoting this is, from what I can see, at a standstill. Mentors were invited to step in to invite new players to the channel and even broadcast announcements in city zones, but I have no idea if this actually happened since I've been away for over a month.

This is relevant to the Protector server, by the way.

That said, I still believe this is a viable idea and that adding a little effort into it would be all that is needed for it to really take off.

I also was involved in P.E.R.C. and was wanting a server (or perhaps even cross-server) activity that could give back to the community and find a way to leverage veteran players experience. Something that had little management requirements and allowed volunteers to act as generously as they could want.

If you'd like to pop into the channel and carve out your own patch, please do and let me know so I can promote you and invite you to the forum group.
  11. You know what?

    Whatever floats your boat guys.

    Ditto.
  13. This is how we revitalize PvP on Protector?

By.... making it happen on another server?

I'm pretty sure that the logical long-term effect is getting even more people to transfer to Freedom. I agree that recruiting for a server event (which is what this is, regardless of who is organizing) on other servers is gauche. This is, willingly or not, a headhunting/recruiting project for Freedom.

The Training Room would still have been the ideal place for this. The transfer system to that server is permanently free, and allows everyone to use a copy of their character instead of their original so respecs / builds are simpler to work on.

That said. "good luck PvPEC organizers"

Therefor, it's useful info and should be mentioned.

    Hmmmm.

Hadn't thought of it that way...

I was under the impression this was being suggested to single out PV as an exception, instead of being the official rule in all channels, but yeah - perhaps indicating that there is active moderating going on will be a deciding factor.
  15. My former SG had an all Defender team running on another server.

    Fastest levelling toons ever.

    Have fun guys.

We all know your opinion of Jello Shooters. It's been noted, several times, but it's not getting changed in my post.

With all due respect, you have no clue what my true opinion of JS is.

People were invited to send me a PM to find out exactly why that was, and you never asked. If you got your info from another player, you didn't hear it from the source. If you're basing it off my comments in these forums, then you have a partial understanding at best. Less than 5 people asked me directly.

One of the reasons I left it (the main one) is because I have underage children who use our accounts, and given the nature of some of the topics discussed (drug use, sexual acts described, etc.) there was no way I could, in good conscience, enable my kids to find their way to that.

I'll say it again, my interest in getting Protector Vigilance back up, with Arion Elan and Blazing Blue's help, was to provide another channel centered around server events, team ups, etc. since I had time to devote to it. A channel that was more "appropriate" in nature and respected the CoH Rules of Conduct.

Some, like me, will see it as an alternative to Jello Shooters. Others, unlike me, will say it is a competitive channel to JS - but mistakenly so. I have nothing but good things to say about the core players involved in Jello Shooters.

PV's growth and popularity proves there was interest in such a channel on Protector, one that could be more family-friendly.

Whatever rating you give JS doesn't bother me in the least, since it's not a channel I can frequent anymore. I was merely proposing a rating that reflected realistically some of the conversations I've personally seen. I suggest you ask Rasta what he'd like to do in that matter.

Now, since you've undertaken to maintain this list, I would ask that you remove the PG-13 rating from Protector Vigilance as well, since for all intents and purposes, it is implied (as per the game's Rules of Conduct), stated in the channels MOTD - like JS does, and no other moderated channels listed so far have a rating placed on them.

    Thanks.

PS - I don't know why you would, but if you have a beef to settle with me, please take it to PMs. It will be my pleasure to discuss things further with you.

Ah, yes. Misread that, I did.

    Thanks for the update River.

...but... If we're going to add ratings for content...

I don't know about you guys, but I would rate JS even higher, at NC-17, if we're using movie ratings as comparison.

    http://www.mpaa.org/FlmRat_Ratings.asp

The MOTD in the channel, before I left, supported that rating.
  18. Gonna miss you ingame, buddy, but looking forward to harrassing you on Facebook some more.

You definitely are part of the tapestry that is CoH for me, when I look back upon the most memorable times.

I'm sorry I missed your last day.

With Real Lifeā„¢ intruding hard in our gaming time at home and my gamebox's graphics card going dead, I just couldn't make it in time to wish you a proper ingame "goodbye" and perhaps drum up a little SG event or something to underline your retirement.

    Take care, be well.
  19. I knew this was coming from your other comments elsewhere, but I was still hoping for things to somehow work out for you.

Life has a tendency not to do what you want, and this is one of those sad times.

Protector Vigilance's purpose: Server events, team-ups, badges, monsters, etc - and feel free to chat away. It is, as always, a public channel, and open to both hero and villain sides.

Keep it clean, keep it decent, and respect your fellow players by avoiding inflammatory topics. Consider this channel PG13 and moderated. There are 3 mods at this time: Blazing Blue, Arion Elan, and myself.

This channel has been around for a while now, but lacking a certain "something" to make it stand out amongst the multitude of global channels out there. We think that there is a desire for a family-friendly channel that can still offers players what they want to complement their gaming time.

If you'd like, use one of these to quickly send messages to Protector Vigilance. Replace the "X" key to the key of your choice:
    • /bind X beginchat "/send "Protector Vigilance" " - just the basics
    • /bind X beginchat "/send "Protector Vigilance" ($name) " - with current character name only
    • /bind X beginchat "/send "Protector Vigilance" ($name, $level) " - with current character name, level
Join in and be a part of of this re-launch!

We could update the Protector Vigilance entry by removing the exclamation point and using the text in red, above.

    Protector Watch is listed twice.

Jello Shooters' entry doesn't mention its adult-level.

AS for the other channels, who could know if they're still active and in use? Ask OPs to confirm?
  21. Added the info to the Protector Vigilance channel MOTD.
  22. Awesome.

    Congratulations to you both!

Will there be an ingame ceremony?

More seriously: A big "Thank you" to everyone who's participated this year. It's always such a treat to see the creativity some display during this activity, but every single wish received just makes this whole thing outstanding.
