  1. I'm not sure about the others, but I've only noticed Reactive activate on powers that damage. I have it on my Mind/Psionic Dominator so I'm pretty sure it doesn't effect Mass Hypnosis, Confusion or Mass Confusion. It does effect Mesmerise though which is pretty annoying when the DoT activates and wakes them up.
  2. Using my Mind/Psi Dominator I have never seen tables for Uncommons or above. Before getting the Interface slot I kept on getting the 10 threads option (I only had a T2 Alpha). After getting the Interface I started getting Commons. I now have Judgement filled but I haven't done any trials since filling it. I have, however, had one rare drop (Exotic Isotope) and a few uncommons drop at the end of Lambda trials.
  3. Red Guy is most likely to be Azazel, Nightcrawler's father.
  4. You know how Blasters get Ranged/Melee+Control? Well Dominators get Control/Ranged+Melee. Basically play them as you would a Blaster (or Blapper) but with better survivability.

If you want a melee focussed Dominator then you could try Electric/Earth. Ice/ and Fire/ can also be used well as a melee based control set so you could try that.
  5. Even Council builders need tea breaks.
  6. Gravity Dominators typically take Lift, Gravity Distortion, Wormhole and Singularity. Maybe Gravity Distortion Field, it's up to you but it's probably worth it on something with such little control. I'd only take Propel if you have room for it, you have better attacking powers in your secondary even though it is really fun.

Gravity, unlike other sets such as Ice, Fire, Earth, Electric, Plant and Mind doesn't have a big control power up fast enough to keep yourself safe in melee so I prefer to play my Gravity Dominators from range, even if I sacrifice melee damage.

It's for this reason that I like to pair it up with Energy Assault (as well as being a sucker for thematic combinations ). With Energy you can use the knockback as another form of control. It is, however, very much single target based so you won't be able to take on large mobs very easily. I like to play it as a game of tag - always try and stay out of melee - whether it's through Crush, Lift, Gravity Distortion, Wormhole, Power Push or any of your other ranged attacks. I think it's fun to be running around blasting things away from you. I typically use Gravity Distortion on one target, Crush on another, Power Push on a different one, and then repeat the process adding in other ranged attacks whenever possible. Singularity is also really good because it helps keep things away from you.
  7. It's not bad. I've soloed one from level 1 to 41 so far and it's been good fun. What did get annoying was the huge amount of endurance that gets used up. Ice Control has Arctic Air whilst all the attacks in Icy Assault are fast animating, this means that you can empty your blue bar very quickly if you're not slotted properly. The combination also isn't the safest as far as control is concerned; Block of Ice, Ice Slick, Arctic Air and maybe Glacier. I've found that if you're not careful you'll end up taking on more than you can handle if you're in teams because of Arctic Air, Ice Sword Circle and Frost Breath. Using Arctic Air also means that you should be in melee, this may put some people off - especially if they think that Dominators shouldn't be in melee (I've seen some who are like this).

Ice isn't like Fire, Earth or Plant where you can just use Flashfire, Stalagmites or Seed of Confusion and then run in and kill them everything, it's more like Electric where you have to layer up multiple forms of control (in Ice's case this will most likely be Ice Slick + Arctic Air with Block of Ice and Glacier supporting). So it's not bad, it's just different.

Ice/Ice does get one cool thing that Fire/Fire and Earth/Earth doesn't get though - Power Boosted Glacier. Go into Domination, hit Power Boost and then use Glacier; they'll be held for ages. I believe the only "thematic" combination to get the same type of thing is Gravity/Energy (Fire gets Embrace of Fire, Earth's Volcanic Gasses can't be boosted because it's a psuedo-pet, Psionic gets Drain Psyche, Electric gets Build Up and Thorns gets Aim).
  8. I'd love to see the following:

    Stone Skin
    Gravel
    Rock Armour
    Earth's Embrace
    Sandstorm

Though Sandstorm should give -Accuracy in my opinion.
  9. Well Earth and Ice have good AoE potential with Quicksand, Volcanic Gasses, Earthquake, Sleet and Ice Storm. Electric, however, doesn't have much to go for in terms of AoE - there's the cone which looks cool and the PBAoE which can knockback. I find that Assault sets don't always go as well together with Controls as Buff/Debuff sets do (I know there are some exceptions like Fiery Assault and Psionic Assault). You just need to find a set that you enjoy.

    I'd personally make an Elec/Earth over Earth/Elec.

    Best Dom pet?

I think Jack Frost is pretty underrated. He may be frail but he does a decent amount of damage in melee and he doesn't have any attacks that do knockback so he's unlikely to aggro other mobs.
  11. 1. Male

    2. Controllers and Dominators: I like the safety that control sets grant primarily. Which I play depends on what I feel would contribute more: Debuffs/Buffs or Damage. I typically play Dominators solo and Controllers in teams.

    3. I play them all for different reasons. Redside for the story arcs, "Purpleside" for the novelty and Blueside because that's where most people are on my server.

    4. The clone arcs (red and blue), Reese, Westin Phipps and Television.

    5. Primarily the fact that I can be a super hero or a super villain. I also like the relatively friendly community.

    6. No other MMOs but I like some JRPGs (Tales of, Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest), I like Pokemon, Legend of Zelda, Metroid, Mario, Castlevania... I could go on forever.

    7. 15 months

    8. I have 14 alts, average level is probably around level 30. I have five level 50s.

    9. I use IOs but I don't softcap Resistance or Defence, instead I usually go for Recharge so I can get my controls, debuffs and attacks up quicker. Difficulty-wise, I use what I feel I can handle, taking in time it takes to defeat mobs into consideration.
  12. Every Control set except Mind has at least three powers that don't benefit; if Illusion Control was available then there would only be three powers that do benefit. I personally feel that the Endurance refill and mez protection are more important. Though I do enjoy hitting Domination, Power Boost and then Glacier on my Ice/Icy Dominator.

They do indeed. I teamed with friends from my SG in the Isles (they only play the Blue-side ATs) on my Thugs/Poison MM (built as a Tankermind). I told the Tanker repeatedly that I didn't need him to tank so I just went ahead and steam-rolled the rest of the mission by myself as he and the Blaster faceplanted against the Wailers.

Might I add that the Tanker was going to the Isles to "show them how it's done".
  14. I personally never take the AoE Immobs on any Dominator because they only end up giving me more aggro than I can handle. It may also be better to take something else over Melt Armour because of its long recharge and unsatisfactory debuff numbers.

Crossing over seems to hide tips that you got from the other side. For example, I had three Tips that I got in Paragon City but when I went over they disappeared. When I travelled back they reappeared.
  16. After becoming a Vigilante on one of my characters, I decided that I would hop over to the other side to see what was on offer. Whilst I was doing radio missions I acquired some Tips - I decided to see what the Tips would offer me.

    One choice: Villainy.

After that I decided to just go back to Paragon City because I can at least act as a Vigilante in Paragon City - despite the Rogue Isles needing vigilante-types more. The jump between turning from a Vigilante into a Villain (and Rogue into Hero) is too severe in my opinion.

I know that right now Vigilante and Rogue are just stepping stones between Hero and Villain. That being said, Going Rogue is all about the directions in which one takes their superheroes/villains so suddenly not having that choice takes away from this somewhat. I am probably not the only person who would like to eventually see content on the Rogue Isles for Vigilantes and in Paragon City for Rogues through Tip missions that give you a choice between Vigilante/Villain or Hero/Rogue and alignment-specific contacts. The latter is probably a bit too much to ask for at this point in time but I am surprised that the former was not done from the beginning.

Perhaps Vigilante Tips in the Rogue Isles could have a darker side to them than the ones in Paragon City - instead of defeating villains who are in the process of committing villainous acts you instead turn to hunting down villains just because they exist. Likewise, Tips for Rogues in Paragon City could be less selfish - instead of stealing for your own personal gain you begin to give some of your acquisitions away or become a sort of spy who is not afraid to bend the laws slightly in order to steal incriminating evidence from a less than suspicious source.

I realise that there are a number of issues with this, but I think they could be overcome if separate lists for Vigilantes on the Isles and Rogues within the City were to be created. This way there would be a smoother transition from light into dark and vice versa.

Please forgive me if this has been raised before, but one extra voice never hurts.

Same as this (crashes seem to be when leaving the hospital, talking to a contact or going into the power selection/enhancement screen when training) but with the following:

    Vista 32bit
    NVidia 8800 GTX
  18. Snowzone

    Crashing in GR

I don't know if this is happening to anyone else but I keep on randomly crashing in Praetoria - it's usually accompanied by a fatal error saying that a pigg file is corrupt. I've tried verifying the files, and deleting the pigg files and the checksum but it's still happening. The files that I've noticed doing it so far include the map in Nova Praetoria (crashes when opening the map), female footstep sounds, buildings in Magisterium, one of the loading screens, and one of the Martial Arts booster robes - there doesn't seem to be any form of pattern.

I've also been randomly crashing to the desktop whilst zoning in and out of missions and when training at Praetor Duncan.

This hasn't happened at all before playing in Praetoria on the live servers.
  19. Have a happy annual flaunting of loots and numbers!

    Europe United

I quite like the idea of four SGs over two servers. I'd probably stick with Defiant for my main server but it would be an easy way to get to know people on Union too (and vice versa).

As for the names - European Confederation/Syndicate sounds the best.

I joined the channel last night. I'm really looking forward to seeing this idea develop.

Also, did everyone miss the significance of the +recovery from the aura combined with endurance-heavy secondaries like, say, Storm? Though that'd depend on just how much the aura itself cost to run.
Conductive Aura is free. The +Recovery and +Regeneration are minuscule at low levels but it becomes useful with SOs.

    Quote:
Not to mention that Thunderstorm has some endurance drain in it.
Electric Control does more than enough endurance drain to satisfy sapping needs. This isn't mediocre like Electric Blast - minions, lieutenants, bosses and even elite bosses will be completely drained after a short period of time.

    Quote:
That said, Radiation Emission would most likely make a better pairing. Choking Cloud and Conductive Aura mesh better than Hurricane and Conductive Aura (unless you corner them, then it doesn't matter as much). And Radiation Emission could use the endurance help as well (even with its own +recovery buff).
I haven't personally tried Radiation Emission but it looks decent enough - probably one of the better pairings.

I've been thinking about an Elec/Kinetics controller (or defender or corrupter). I have a Kinetics character that I've been having trouble finding a good pairing powerset for (concept wise). Electric (either the blast set or the control set) probably goes better with the whole 'using dark powers to drain enemies' just because of endurance drain, even if electricity wasn't part of the concept in the first place. And the aura is just as melee oriented as Kinetics. Hmm.
The problem with Electric Control is that it is probably as damage light as Ice and Earth Control. It gets an extra minor damage power in Jolting Chains but it's only like the AoE Immobilises. I did play one of these through Praetoria and I managed to solo everything at a reasonable speed - including Elite Bosses.

[quote]You know, they could improve the aura a little while still making it unique just by adding a small sleep effect to it. Though not sure that'd be a large improvement.[quote]

I personally want a small stunning part to be reinstated even if it meant that the power was no longer free to run.

Will have to see how the set actually plays.
It's fun - I can say that much.

    Quote:
Also: the gremlins have a melee attack (like the imps) and their own version of Jolting Chain, as well as that damage aura. The controller's version recharges at 8s (can be brought down) while the gremlins' recharges at 6s (can't be altered). So it looks like spamming KDs might actually be a core control mechanism, even if in a weird way compared to Ice Slick and Earthquake.
I personally haven't tried the Gremlins much I've heard they're frail and tend to aggro everything with their chains and melee attacks... Whilst waking things up from Static Field with their damage auras.
  23. Just a warning:

Electric/Storm, whilst it may be thematic, is not a good pairing at all.
  24. My first Controller was a Gravity/Kinetic/Forces. It was enjoyable towards the end but I no longer use him that much. If you make it, don't expect to be able to solo x8 mobs like you may be able to do with some Scrappers. I find it's played best by using Gravity to enhance Kinetics. I'm pretty sure Wormhole doesn't need line of sight so you can use that to take advantage of Fulcrum Shift by teleporting mobs into corners where you and your team are waiting. Other than that there isn't really much synergy and some egotistic Tankers or Brutes may get annoyed with you because you're not playing how they want you to.
  25. I really enjoy using my namesake, Snowzone, an Ice/Cold Controller. He's mostly complete as far as IOs are concerned (just some LotGs left to get and I'm terrible when it comes to inf management :P). He can't put out much damage but he can lock down a mob or two really quickly and turn a losing battle into a solid win. It was a hard slog to lvl 50 but I got there and now it's a blast.

I have loads of other Controllers (it, along with Dominators, are the only ATs that I enjoy using) but they're mostly stuck either because I don't enjoy them as much as I could for whatever reason or because I forget about them.
