Quote:I think there was a red name (I think Positron, but could be wrong) that said that it would take longer, but the rewards could be grabbed by those that switched sides.I'm inclined to believe it would be a buff or temp power of some kind, rather than a badge, which means badge hunters wouldn't really care. Otherwise, you could still earn the badge for "staying" whatever time frame it might take, and THEN move to the other side.

Quote:Actually in that one I mentioned, no one is applying the code but you.Have you tried to order the Mac Edition from the other company, gametreeonline? They don't seem to have the initial Mac edition, but they do seem to have the Architect Edition, for all of the Americas.
I considered buying it from Steam, but that doesn't help me with the other editions or the booster packs. If I'm going to have someone else applying them to my account anyway, may as well do everything in one swoop.
Sounds a lot like I've seen from LevelUp too. I'm glad that I live in Canada.Quote:I hope everything works out for you Leandro, and sorry that NCsoft still hasn't done anything about making sure that LevelUp!Games carries their entire CoH lineup.
It's actually Edusoft for Argentina; LevelUp! is for Brazil. Edusoft has not sold anything since the Good vs. Evil edition, and even that seems discontinued. The only reason I can get time cards from them is because they apply to Lineage II, the only NCsoft game they actually bother to promote and sell.
Again, I hope everything works out for you. -
Quote:Have you tried to order the Mac Edition from the other company, gametreeonline? They don't seem to have the initial Mac edition, but they do seem to have the Architect Edition, for all of the Americas.Since my local distributor has decided that they are not going to sell Going Rogue (and they don't sell the super boosters or have sold any version of COH since Good vs. Evil, really) I'm making a list of everything I missed to see if I can Western-Union someone in the US to "complete" my account. I'd rather do it all in one go when the GR complete version preorder becomes available in two weeks, so here's what I'm looking at:
I have:
* COH DVD Edition (VIP badge)
* COV Collectors Edition
* Good vs. Evil Edition (Pocket D porter)
* Wedding Pack
I need:
* Going Rogue Complete Edition - $40 (includes free month?)
* Architect Edition - $20 (includes free month and Cyborg pack)
* Mac Edition - $20 (includes free month and Valkyrie pack)
* Super Booster: Magic - $10
* Super Booster: Science - $10
* Super Booster: Martial Arts - $10
So that's $110 total and it includes 3 months. Am I right? Anything I missed?
http://www.gametreeonline.com/NCsoft/City-Of-Heroes-Architect/NAQuote:North American version includes: North/South America, Australia and New Zealand
From what I remember, it is the only retailer that people were able to buy the Mac versions from outside the NCsoft store. Given that the important part isn't the download:
I hope everything works out for you Leandro, and sorry that NCsoft still hasn't done anything about making sure that LevelUp!Games carries their entire CoH lineup.Quote:Purchase Includes: - A serial code for account creation (e-mailed with download link upon game release).
- Access to the full City of Heroes® and City of Villains® games via downloadable client.
- 12 character slots per server
- First Month of Play Included
Edit:
I guess I should point out that any edition code that can activate can also be used to upgrade an existing account. -
Quote:While I agree that having 2-5 global channels takes up more resources, you have sidestepped what is using those resources.As it is now, If they're forming some TF or CC on ServerX and I'm on ServerY I could switch toon and join them, thanks to global channels I did not ask for infinite channels, my experience says VU2007 + VU2008 + VU2009 usually take up more resources than a single VUtotal...
Okay, how is the game supposed to determine what is or is not a single server channel? These channels are set up by the players, not the developers. Even if a channel becomes popular, there will be people who disagree with how it is run and will form an alternate channel. This has happened with both Triumph (there are bunch of Triumph Watch channels for a variety of reasons) and Liberty. It has happened on Virtue and Freedom as well.Quote:1- removing the 2500 limit, since any server holds way more than 2500 toons single server related channels should allow more accounts, that is: grow or shrink on demand...up to some higher limit.
This, like I keep saying, only intensifies the problem with the channel limits. It also becomes a nightmare for players to keep track of.Quote:2- per-server global list, all toons on the same server will share the same global channels list that is: instead of a list of 10 global channels per account...a list of 110 global channels per account, 10 channels active at any time
I applaud your willingness to stick with your request and to adjust where needed to make a better suggestion.Quote:3- per-toon global list
that is: instead of 10 globals...1320 to 3960 globals per account, only 10 active at any time
I agree that (3) is not needed, do not consider it then.
suggestions so far + comments:
(1) kick players after a certain (configurable) period of inactivity (Quinch)
- what if there are more than 2500 active users? (hurt returning-users?)
(2) global channels increase to 15-20 (Snow Globe) -
Quote:Yeah, I knew it was sub-20. The OP was trying at 20-25. I blame two years of school filling my head with useless stuff (ie. things I need to get work15-24 is too high for good numbers of Hordelings. The best range is 8-13, as that's when they spawn at the most plentiful rank, Minions, and before their places get taken over by Spectrals. The ones that spawn in the range that you are set at are Lieutenants and Bosses, which explains the lower numbers.
) for not remembering the exact range needed for hordelings.
On the other hand, there really isn't any point to try to work the badge system in this way any more due to Going Rogue. -
Might be a few duplicates here, but most look like they could be adapted to BAB's requests (even if some are ray guns).

Quote:Correct.As I understand it the only time Heroes can earn this badge is right now, during the "Spring Fling".
Actually I think the low end on the hordelings is 10, but 15-24 is a good range. Personally, I'd try 15-20. Succubi or Hellfrosts would be 25-38 (30-35 for optimal range, any higher and I think you'll eliminate Hellfrosts).Quote:If I'm getting this correct, to get Coldblooded, we need a 20-25 villain to start Scratch's mission in order to spawn Hordelings (100), and a 25-45 villain to spawn Succibi or Hellfrosts (50) to get Weed Whacker.
Eight would definitely be better in this case.Quote:My questions are these:
1) Did we keep getting exactly four hordelings because the mission is hardcapped at that number, or would taking the team up to 8 members spawn us more on each map? There seemed to be no difference between 4 team members and 6...
No, mission resets would have zero impact on spawns. If a hero entered the mission first, then chances go down to zero. Make sure a villain enters the mission first.Quote:2) Did we keep getting exactly four because we kept resetting the mission (and so kept getting the same exact map, but with different spawn groups -- sometimes mostly ghosts, sometimes mostly mages)?
No, it won't. You can only get the missions once per year, per character. If you finish the first mission, you can't go back to it.Quote:If we also did the second mission, would that give us a better chance for more on the first mission?
Try the 25-30 range or the 30-35 range.Quote:3) Is there a level range that can guarantee to get Hellfrosts instead, so at least we can work two badges at once?
It probably had a lot to do with you running it at level 45, but dropping down to two might not spawn anything useful unless you change the difficulty. At that point you're better off with a larger team anyways.Quote:4) If we were down to, say, a duo, would we still get four-per-map? Or would it drop to, say, two?
See the above answers. Set team spawn size to 8, -1 level, bosses. This should maximize the amount spawned, if you are in the correct level ranges. -
Quote:Which is why I agreed with upping the limit to 15-20 global channels.That is another problem, the problems are:
- with only 10 channels per account even if you can kick inactive accounts I'm still unable to join my favourite 11th channel.
Okay, then you are asking for two entirely different things.Quote:- when playing toons on ServerW or ServerX I could not be interested in listening ServerY_TF ServerY_badges ServerY_chat ServerY_anything, leaving and rejoining channels is risky because of the 2500 cap and leaving/joining repeatedly is not good
You are, in reality, asking for server channels. I agreed with that. However, server channels are NOT global channels. I could see 5-10 server channels, or even just a server general chat channel that every character is automatically given:
- Freedom Chat
- Virtue Chat
- Triumph Chat
- Union Chat
- etc.
That is possible, reasonable, and well within the developers ability to make that won't break the budget (so to speak).
Disagree with it all you want, you are not going to change a thing. The system simply cannot work the way you are suggesting here.Quote:as mentioned before I do not agree with that, moreover if the server can handle VU2007, VU2008 and VU2009 it can handle a VUtotal that is VU2007+VU2008+VU2009 and one account subscribed to the three VUs will be subscribed to only one VUtotal...
I think that I can say as a programmer, web developer, and customer that this will never happen. Ever. Do you know why? It is because NCsoft will never pay for an infinite amount of channels (how many that the users can make) having an infinite amount of slots (allow all potential customers). This would be a programming and storage nightmare. At some point there has to be a limit or they end up wasting time, resources (storage), and bandwidth (all that info has to be sent to each player joining the channel). I can safely say that without knowing any of their code.Quote:please re-read this: "- removing the 2500 limit, since any server holds way more than 2500 toons"
active accounts on high populated servers can be more than 2500 so kicking inactive won't help in this case
Yes, I know that. The problem is balance between active, paying subscribers and those not paying for the service. I'll always side with those paying over those that are not.Quote:for sure won't solve the problems I've mentioned, it will make returning-people unhappy if they were on ServerX and cannot rejoin
What you are missing is that if the person you are talking to is on another server, then you are using the global chat system. If you are talking to someone on the same server, then you are using a different system. Both co-exist, but trying to apply the server system to the global system would be a nightmare.Quote:well, I can contact people on the global channels that are neither my friends nor my global friends, I can reach my server-friends and global friends via menus along with the friends channel, no point here
The problem is that the majority of people do not have to global channel hop. They are happy with 5. Tell you what, give me a list of channels you feel the need to have and maybe I can help you find better channels so that you will not need to channel hop as much. Or make a channel of your own that has all your friends that you want to talk to.Quote:and is it better to leave and join channels everytime (for every toon if needed) and forever ?
I can tell you that there are at least 3 channels per server that can be heard by everyone on that channel: Arena, Help Channel, and Architect Entertainment. -
-
Until such time as the developers enact this request, may I suggest heading over to vidiotmaps.com and downloading their map patch. It has the TF and SF contacts marked on the maps, doesn't actually modify game code, and has a bunch of other stuff included (GM spawn points, Rikti and Ghost ship paths, badge markers, etc).
-
Quote:Okay, to use a real example here. Triumph Watch last year hit 2,500 accounts. About 1,300 of those were inactive accounts. That is 1,300 accounts that joined the channel and then had their accounts gone inactive. There are people with multiple accounts, and some let their second (or third, fouth, or even fifth) account lapse before leaving the channel. Then there are those that just left the game.why preventing users to join badge/TF channels ? why creating lots of alternative channels to overcome the limitation while creating only confusion?
The channel moderators could not free up those spots, so if people left they ran the risk of not being able to re-join the channel.
The only solution that the Developers and GM can provide in this situation is to tell the channel moderators to make a new channel. Larger servers run into this problem faster than the lower population servers, which is why VU2007, VU2008, VU2009, and I'm guessing VU2010 exist.
A player can have 132 characters without purchasing slots or vet rewards and that is per account. Multiply that by several accounts and/or purchased slots and you would fill up channel slots quickly if you could subscribe to global channels on a per character basis.Quote:I'll explain more:
toon 1 has: channel1, channel2, channel3...channel 10
toon 2 has: channel3, channel4, channel5...channel 12
for toon 1 could be important to have channel 1 and 2 since related to his AT/role/anything
for toon 2 could be important to have channel 11 and 12 instead
both will share channel 3 to 10, common interests (TFs, badges, ...)
If you only want to display certain channels on a per character basis, you can already do that. Right click on a chat tab and select which channels you want to appear in that tab.
No 20 channels the way you are suggesting:Quote:let's summarize: leaving and joining channels all the time (with being 2501st risk) is not a pleasure
20 channels would alleviate the problem, kicking players from channels maybe: extra work for channel admins, extra work for users to rejoin once they need that channel again
- Delays the problem in a few cases.
- Would fill the channels quicker in many others.
- Provides greater risk of the channels filling with inactive accounts or people who've forgotten they had subscribed to a channel on a little used alt.
All-in-all, a bad suggestion.
Edit:
Although I would welcome each server getting a dedicated general chat channel that is cross-faction and available no matter where you are on the server. -
-
Quote:While I agree that only 10 global channel is limiting (I personally would prefer 15-20), I feel the need to correct a few misconceptions that form the basis for this suggestion.11 servers and only 10 global channels is not enough also because of the 2500 limit per each channel. I can't leave channels to avoid the risk of not being able to join them again.
The 2,500 limit is not a character limit, rather an ACCOUNT limit. As a channel moderator, there should be tools to remove inactive accounts from that list. This problem plagues a number of the larger badge channels. Virtue changes every year to get around this problem.Quote:I don't need to join 100 channels at the same time, 10 is fair enough so I'd suggest:
- removing the 2500 limit, since any server holds way more than 2500 toons
I think this completely ignores the whole concept of "global channels". If you are asking for Server Channels, then by all means. Global by definition means cross-server. In fact they should be made totally Global and be shared between the US & UK servers.Quote:further improvement:
- per-server global list, all toons on the same server will share the same global channels list
Not only "no", but "not on the game's life, NO". See the point above about the definition of "Global". -
