I've seen mind outperform everything. I've seen everything (cept grav :P) outperform mind.

Increasing the inf cap to 4b will raise prices in the long run. Decreasing the inf cap will drive prices down.
-
Granted your point. I was opposing the fallacy that the high prices in the market were generated by the greedy sellers. I based my points on demand alone to follow the KISS rule.
-
I was making a point. If someone is willing to buy something for a bazillion units of currency, you can't blame the seller.
Price is CoH is totally dominated by demand, because the supply is unlimited, and the currency is unlimited. The only factor that IS limited is demand. When demand is high, supply is high, price is high.
Demand is generated solely by the buyer. The seller can attempt to influence demand via marketing, but in the end, only the buyer can generate demand.
If I try to sell a left handed smoke shifter, and nobody wants to buy one, it won't matter if I price it at .01 or 1.0. It won't sell. If someone wants to buy it, but the price I set forces them to give up a weeks food, they won't buy it. If I set a price that they are willing to pay, then it will sell. Thus, demand has determined price. -

Are you going to tell me the price of that Item is high because of the buyer?
[/ QUOTE ]
I don't have to tell you that....
[ QUOTE ]
sellers will absolutely set there minimum price quite high because eventually some one will pay it.
[/ QUOTE ]
You said it yourself.
In a real economy, frivoulous luxury items (purples) are more expensive than the same item in plain mode. Not because they the sellers say so, because the buyers say so.
[ QUOTE ]
Demand is perhaps one of the most fundamental concepts of economics and it is the backbone of a market economy. Demand refers to how much (quantity) of a product or service is desired by buyers.
[/ QUOTE ]
Price is determined by demand, demand is determined by buyers.
[ QUOTE ]
people will naturally avoid buying a product that will force them to forgo the consumption of something else they value more.
[/ QUOTE ]
As long as there is an unlimited supply of influence, price will continue to increase, because players will continue to value rare IO's more than inf. -
Erm, why exactly is the kobold leader wearing the Invulnerable Coat of Arnd?
To protect him from the hobgoblin in the next room. He has the Ax of the Dwarvish Lords. -
What we have is an unusual economic situation. Greed has nothing to do with it.
(this was an attempt at humor. I think it fails) -
It did work. I read your post, closed all my browser windows, launched the forums from the updater panel, and clicked on a name to view last post (which would always bring up the pop up) and it went straight to the thread.
Thanks! -
You greedy ebil market haxor.

You're ignoring the "supplier" factor - who controls the availability of a product. As a result, they too are responsible for high-priced items.
[/ QUOTE ]
I base my disagreement with this on the fact that a few hours ago I listed a peice of salvage for 1 influence and received 535,000 for it.
In fact, the only way a seller (in game) could be blamed for high pricing is if that seller were capable of completely sidestepping the market transaction system AND preventing players from purchasing that item from anyone but him.
The two purples I've had drop I crafted and listed both at the crafting price plus 50%. They both sold for far far more than than what I had them listed at. That's the result of the buyer placing a blind bid for that item based on the buyers perceived value. The history shows the price paid by the buyer. It does not show the price given to the seller. If you bid 1000 on an item, it will not go the the seller with the 999 sale price, but the seller with the 1 sale price.
High pricing is the fault of buyers, not sellers. -

I've seen a recipie go for 800mil infamy, son.
200mil is tame on my server.

You somehow have access to a single server market? Interesting. -
I agree with Nethergoat. The rewards need to be competitive, but not repetitive.
-
I don't think halving the rewards will do much. I think that elimination of rewards for running repetitive missions will fix the problem, especially in non AE content as multiple teammates having the same missions already complete the mission together.
-
The forums look exactly like they did with the fixes implemented with ED, the GDN, AoE caps etc.
Same arguements.
Ae isn't broken, rewards are broken. Fix rewards for running repetitve content and you eliminate the need to do anything with AE. -
Price gouging implies a disreputable practice of charging an unusually high amount of money for a good or service that is required to perform basic activities with knowledge that the good or service will be in high demand based upon an unusual outside influence driving up that demand.
High prices in the market are indicators only of demand, as the price is set by the buyer, not the seller. It is not possible in COX for a person who has something to sell to gouge someone who wants to buy that item, because:
A) The buyer doesn't know who is selling it
B) The buyer sets the price prior to the sale.
C) The seller cannot know if, when, or to whom his item will sell.
D) The actual transaction is created by a neutral third party based on an established rule set that does not vary according to any situation.
E) The high priced items are luxury items that are not required to complete or even be competitive in any ingame content.
The buyers as well as the sellers are responsible for high priced items. -
I agee, it's only on these forums, and it has only started happening recently.
-
There is a pop up that constantly appears while I am browsing the forums. It mentions that there are both secure and unsecure information, and do I wish to view unsecure information. This happens *constantly*. I've changed all my security settings for the forums to most lenient, and I've looked for a way to disable that particular pop up. No luck.
Any help on this? (other than changing my browser)

The First Amendment gives me the right to voice that.
[/ QUOTE ]
This may sound nitpicky, and is very OT, but I have a moral obligation to correct you.
This First Amendment does not grant you any rights. The right to Free Speech is granted by the creator. The First Amendment prevents the government from infringing upon that right. To say that the First Amendment gives you the right is to say that the government gives you the right of free speech, as the Constitution is the document of government. This would then empower the government to take away that right, as it is granted by government. -
The Shard. I accidentally went there thinking I was going to RCS. Talk about WTH? Unfortunately, I had SSpeed at the time, and learned to hate it very quickly.

Sometimes, people can't log in for two months straight for good reasons, like THEY ARE IN AFGHANISTAN SERVING THEIR COUNTRY, and they lose their stuff.

I won the only contest I've been in. Of course, I didn't realize I was in the contest,

That is so awesome, it's exactly what happened to me. I was level 12ish, had about 5 days in the game, and was just watching the contest. I wasn't even standing in line, but a bit off to the side. I got 5 million. (In July of 04). -
It's not the AE. It's the rewards you get for running repetitive content. Fix that instead.
