This. With the right support behind my Brute, I'll happily tank for everyone. I always try to take as much aggro as I know I can handle, and that amount goes up significantly if I have good support.

Quote:102 shouldn't be the thermal ceiling for shutdown on any modern card, the threshold is usually around 120+. So I have to wonder if it's the GPU at all. I've seen video cards operate fine at around 110 before without shutting down the system. The graphics card temperature as I've said is 102/103 degrees at load and around 40 at idle. I tried speedfan but it didn't come up with a gpu sensor. The video card fan works and I cleared it out of any dust etc before I took the sensor temperature reading.
What model card do you have? What happens when shut down occurs, is it like hitting the reset button, is it a hard power off, or is there an error message on the screen? Does it only happen in the game?
Quote:The thing I don't understand is that its worked for a good 2 years why would it just stop now?
Things break. -
Quote:Shutting down is most likely due to heat in your case, but it may not be the GPU alone. Your whole system could be running hot. You can download speedfan to see your core temperature and hard drive temps, etc and if your fans are going at a good clip. See if you have system fans that are not working or a CPU fan that's stopped. If your video card has a fan, check if it works.I recently cleared out my computer of all the dust etc. Today it has started to shut itself down when I am in the middle of playing the game.
I downloaded GPU-z and it said when loaded it was running at 102/103 degrees celsius, which doesn't take a genius to realise something is wrong here. I've emailed the people I got it from but the thing is that it's 2 years old. Will I have to pay for another replacement?
Is that definitely the source of my computer shutting itself down? HELP! -
I have Mercs/TA, and I do like it alot. Your mercs are a little squishy, so keeping foes debuffed is the main key to survival. Mercs/TA is a busy MM compared to some others, but I find it fun and engaging.
I enjoy my Necro/Storm more, but Mercs/TA is great fun. -
Assuming a paradigm where Good and Evil are objective, measurable absolutes, I would say All of the Above: Evil in Thought, Evil in Word, and Evil in Deed.
That dualistic paradigm is a bit old-fashioned these days, and I don't feel that a compelling case for the objective existence of Good and Evil as absolutes can still be made, however. But when dealing with these sorts of things in fiction, I'd have to go with the classical definition and say Evil is an absolute. There isn't much if any middle ground. -
Quote:Actually that'd be fine with me: an auto-level option on Test (only) would be ok. Otherwise, I gotta say no, for all the reasons outlined. But for just Test? Yeah I don't see a problem there. One of the few things I like about CO is option to auto lvl a character on test via a contact. That could work great to test new content or new powers without the need for the Devs to bump us via update. I thought that was were the OP was going.
I would dislike any MT for lvls on live. -
Quote:Your character is a record in a database. There is every possibility that the date the record was created is one of the things that can be retrieved from that database. It's a common field.Interesting idea, but here's the main flaw: If the game hasn't been tracking something, it's usually impossible to figure it out. Chances are, the Date created hasn't been stored anywhere. Older characters would end up with a Birth date equal to date the feature get's implemented.
Of course, transfered characters who went from one server to the next probably would only have the date they landed on that server, not the actual create date. -
Remember people, the "crazy" prices for salvage works both ways. Yeah you pay more for salvage in the market, but you also EARN more on the salvage YOU put up for sale too! Prices are relative: if you aren't selling stuff and are hording all your salvage in case you need it "someday", then it may seem like prices are outrageous, but when you can sell a bit of salvage you DON'T need to make the money for salvage you DO need, it's not a big problem.
The market isn't a one-way system where "ebil" people wring your INF out of you bit by bit. Just sell what you don't want, and use the proceeds to buy what you do want -

Quote:Was going to say the same thing. Go to any other MMO's forums. Any. Just TRY to have a real conversation in any of them. Oh we have our lumps and our problems, but gosh golly I have to say that we've got some of the least contentious, least whiny, and most productive forums in the market, hands down.Compared to most forums for any game, not just MMOs, we're practically total raving fanboys.
If possible, I always try to read the forums for a game before I join: while the forums aren't everyone who plays, they're some of the most vocal, and I like to see who the game will inflict apon me if I pay for a subscription.
As bad as this place can get sometimes, I'd rather play with this crowd than the community of just about any other forum out there. -
Statement of welcome to the newcomer. Derisive and condescending comment about newcomer and their lack of comprehension of the topic. Use of paternal and saccharine tone to ensure newcomer understands how unintelligent they are. Smiley and winky emoticons to indicate friendliness.

Eh, broadband isn't that much, at least not here. I know in some countries it's alot more expensive, but it's dirt cheap in the US.

A point of clarification: with the exception of server events like Rikti invasions with a high number of participants, the higher population servers do NOT suffer problems with lag or disconnects. Some players whose network connections and computer hardware cannot handle a large number of bodies on a screen may suffer client side lag and or disconnects as a result, but thats not a problem with the server.

Outside Pocket D, I find it to be a better than average server when it comes to finding people to team with who aren't complete idiots.
The RP thing means you have about a 30-40% chance on a team to encounter someone talking in character, otherwise unless you look for it, it's kinda just in the background
Inside Pocket D, it's a whole nudder thing. The RP is largely (with rare exceptions) cliquish and overwhelmingly dull, but there's plenty of kissyface RP (call it by whatever label you like) going on, but mostly it's in private, but there have been some Epic mistells into broadcast or local more than once. There are "regulars" there who seem to never actually leave "the D". Ever.
Out in the world, however, I have few complaints. Even most of the PuGs tend to be fairly decent. -
Quote:My mind/ice is ranged (and uses hover) and I don't have a problem with avoiding melee at all. Bitter Ice Blast is your best attack and is ranged, and Cone of Frost isn't too shabby either. I only use my melee attack (only took Ice Sword Circle) when I end up swarmed or when I've got the whole room locked down already and just want to finish them off quickly.Ice/Psi - this combination has great synergies, while the other one is quite the opposite. The staple powers of Ice/ and /Psi both require you to be in melee, while Mind/ is a ranged set and /Ice requires you to be in melee to get the most of it. Plus, /Ice is regarded as quite a poor secondary at the moment, and is a bit end heavy.
Also, the endurance issues are not a problem if you just kick domination whenever end gets low. You can also slot the endurance issues away pretty easily. I bought a handful of cheap IO sets with +end or +recovery and never have endurance issues at all. Or if you have end problems at higher levels, pick up Dark Consumption from Ghost Widow. -
Quote:I have one of each, and between the two I greatly prefer my Mind/Ice. I'm level 43 with him now, and it's one of the better crowd control doms I've seen. I can juggle multiple spawns with ease and dish out some descent damage along with stacking slows.I have a concept (which is how I always play all my charcaters, not based on out right performance), a psychic dominator with cold based powers as well. So my question to those of you knowledgeable in these matters, which is the more rewarding powerset combo to play: mind/ice or ice/psi? Thanks for all your input in advance.

Quote:I laugh and laugh every time I see someone post a comment like this and have to think "these people obviously do not work in I.T. or development".And I have no doubt that this is so insanely complicated to pull off in CoH...
"Oh I'm sure it'd be easy! Just change a few lines of code!" Man it cracks me up. -

Quote:...because the best way to avoid feeling like a nightclub attendee, is to roleplay being.... a nightclub attendee.Yes, its become somewhat of a 'clique' roleplaying scene, although theres some notably good RP in the D, its a manner of reaching out to these groups.
-
Quote:Yes. It's just a matter of doing some real roleplaying is all. I've got years of stories. Of course, we're supervillains not heroes, but the principle is the same. While it's smaller now, in the heydey we were involved in an all RP coalition that had a pretty intricate story line going on.My characters feel like nightclub attendees. Has your character ever been involved in a purposeful, compelling story about superheroes? How did you achieve this?
Help!
I personally don't see the point of roleplaying unless it's playing a purposeful compelling story. You don't even really need to try at it. You just need dynamic characters who are more than the sum of their backstory with clear motives and goals that generally coincide but conflict in significant ways and a story will happen all on it's own organically.
Unfortunately, people like me are in the minority of roleplayers, I have learned, so I stick with a small group these days and don't really try to involve others anymore. Every time we've tried to invite someone in, recently, I've regretted it.
