Same mechanic as Confuse... it actually increases XP/minute... some people just don't understand that.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    [Really NOT trying to be snarky}
Since when? I was under th impression that (and I've never used confuse, btw...even though I have 3 ILL trollers ), 'arresting' that enemies that have taken damage from an NPC, yield a lower amount of Xp depending on the damage taken from said NPC (including some powers, ie: confuse, OLD chain reaction, others). Even in MA (or AE, whatever...make up our minds, people! ).

    AM I wrong? AM I a n00b?

P.S. Don't answer that last one, hehe.

[/ QUOTE ]Yes, the XP per mob will be lower... but, you'll be able to kill more mobs in the same time frame, which'll result in a net increase. Lets say your NPC ally is doing a LOT of damage... and you're only really doing about 20% of the damage to each mob. What does that do to the XP you'd make for that mission? It'd cut it in half... BUT, what does it do to how long it took to complete the mission? It was cut to one fifth! That's a one hundred and fifty percent increase in earned XP per minute!

See this chart for how it works out. Really, confuses is basically one of the most underrated abilities in the entire game (which is why I love Seeds of Confusion... it's up basically every mob, and it's pretty easy to hit the entire spawn with it).

    [/ QUOTE ]

It's true. Confuse is just plain awesome. It's one of my favorite powers.

Recently an SG mate rolled a mind dom and finally got confuse. They exclaimed "Wow Confuse is great!" and I said "You know what's better than Confusion? MASS Confusion!"

    Eggs

Seriously, this will make the best scrambled eggs you ever tasted.

Start with a small pot on medium heat. Crack the eggs (3) into a bowl, and add some butter in with them. I don't measure the butter, but generally eyeball it. About a tablespoon maybe a touch more. Do NOT beat the eggs. Spray the inside of the pot with a light coat of non-stick spray.

Pour the eggs and butter into the hot pot and stir constantly. When the eggs start to thicken, take the pot OFF the heat and keep stirring for about 30 seconds. Return to the heat, still stiring. 30 seconds on, 30 seconds off, until the eggs are nice and creamy looking, about 2 minutes. Don't overcook them!

Now turn the heat off and add about 1 heaping tablespoon of Ricotta Cheese and some snipped chives. Stir until well-blended and creamy. Season to taste with salt and pepper.

Serve on top of a toasted baguette.

    Yum!

Yes, it's still there. Also, it's NOT behind a 'door' like an instanced mission/shop. It's more so a secret passage... I was able to just find it again just now after only a minute of looking (mostly the actual travel time).

    [/ QUOTE ]

I went looking for that again recently and couldn't find it. Can you at least give me a hint? I'd like to find it again.

[/ QUOTE ]Check my YouTube profile (City of Villains - Grandville's Secret Room) to see the video of me going there... For just a hint... it's in a corner, between two... big objects? Like huge circuit breaks/thingies. You think there's a wall there, but there's actually not, but you can't actually tell just by looking. It's not in the really low red/misty area.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Hmmm... yes I will need to go back for another hunt. At least now I have an idea where I may have gone wrong. For some reason I thought it was on the other side of one of those grates, only you could actually cross it. I found it by accident the first time while superspeeding through, so I guess I misremembered where I was when I went off grid.

    Thanks

The Leviathan Caves in the "Cult of the Shaper" missions (OMG! Are those teeth?)

    [/ QUOTE ]

As a matter of fact, they are! That's the Leviathan. You encounter it again in Captain Mako's patron arc (where this time you get it's tooth) and in the Operative Renault Strike Force where you get to beat the heck out of it's eye (if you notice in the Shaper arc, you can find an area with the now-empty eye socket)

After seeing this quote from Back Alley Brawler it made me think:

    [ QUOTE ]
The infamous knockout blow animation wasn't even something that I animated, so I have no attachment to it and don't feel any need to defend it's quality. I happen to like it, I know plenty of others do as well, and I know a great deal of people who don't.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    So if I recall correctly:

Geko = Original powers guy before Castle, or did Castle exist with him back then too?

Statesman = Original lead designer, passed mantle to Positron.

Original powers animator guy = ???

Gilgamesh = ??? Was he just NC Soft or a designer?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    You also have

Lord Recluse = David "Zeb" Cooke who was lead designer for City of Villains when it was released. He's also the guy who designed Dungeons and Dragons 2nd Edition.

Captain Mako = "Savage" Shane Hensley who was the lead writer for CoV. He's also the guy in charge of Pinnacle Entertainment Group (aka Great White Games) which released such infamous PnP titles as Deadlands and Savage Worlds. He's allegedly working on a Deadlands MMO as studio head of "Superstition Studios". This is part of the financially turbulent Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment group of studios, which if it has the luck of previous attempts to bring Deadlands to the electronic age will die on the vine but not before threatening to actually launch and be really cool.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Another Deadlands connection is this book I found a little while ago.

    Deadlands Back East

    [/ QUOTE ]

That's the same Deadlands connection, it's a supplement for the tabletop PnP RPG I mentioned. That's one of about 25 Deadlands books NOT counting the HoE or d20 materials. There's probably over 50 deadlands PnP books or products in existence although most are out of print. You can still buy PDFs of most of them at peginc.com however. There's also a few still in the distribution chain so sometimes you can get lucky at game stores.

    [ QUOTE ]
NC Soft better have some saboteurs over at Cheyenne Mountain because a Deadlands MMO is the only thing that will ever compete with CoH for me.

    [/ QUOTE ]

From the sound of it, Cheyenne is pretty much out of cash right now and is looking for new investors to get Stargate Worlds out the door. The most recent update on the situation by the dev team amounted to "well the lights are still on".

So, the curse of Deadlands continues. First, the game goes out of print, then the promised Reloaded books for the Savage Worlds version were alot slower to come out than promised (and we still only have one of the three plot point books), then the FPS game dies on the vine when the development company goes out of business, now the MMO developer working on it is teetering on going under.

It's cursed I tell ya! Cursed!
  7. We were warned about even making missions that could LOOK like a farm. Just because you try to give it 5 seconds worth of backstory doesn't make it NOT a farm... fyi

    [/ QUOTE ]

We were warned SPECIFICALLY about making an arc with "Farm" in the title EVEN AS A JOKE. Guess they were serious.

You can still get your slot back (if your arc truly isn't a farm), but now you need to contact customer support and have them review the arc.

Oh and Smurch, there are some media outlets that fall down in terms of their legitimacy, but there are many that do due diligence to a fault.

.. and yes ... I do know that for a fact.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Maybe there are, but none of the majors fall into that.

I was... tangentially... involved in a media hoax about six years ago. Without providing a single shred of evidence, the media happily ran a false story on all major news outlets from CNN to Fox. Even Reuters picked it up. Not one reporter asked any tough questions (and the entire thing would have fallen apart if they had). They swallowed everything they were spoonfed.

Of course it came out as a hoax three days later, but it still happened and while I wasn't actively involved, I did get to observe it from the sidelines. It's forever changed my view on how media operates.

I also had seen about ten years prior both how the government censors the media AND how the media makes up sensational "facts" out of whole cloth. At the same time.

It seem to me that talk of adjusting the rewards is beside the point. What MA has really done is shown that a lot of the game content isn't actually fun for the players, at least not after the first couple of times.

    [/ QUOTE ]

... but killing hamidon mitochondria that can't fight back is fun again and again and again?
  15. [ QUOTE ]
The environments in this game don't do it for me at all. Bland colors, flat low res textures, overly-simplistic geometry, weak effects, enemies doing jack all, further bogged down with severely lacking audio and a pervasive feeling of emptiness (like Skyway's empty highways). Not to mention those garish war walls.

Most mission maps are plain, too.

It's really the worst part of the game.

I'd assume its because some people relied heavily on broadcast pugs pre-AE and therefore never actually developed any real friendships or found an active SG. or something.

I find I have some of the most fun in PuGs

    [/ QUOTE ]

While I've been on some truly horrible PUGs, most have been pretty fun.

    [ QUOTE ]
And some of the SGs I have been in...though they are great for getting teams, I've had to leave because they seem to support censorship, and say things like "I don't team with energy blasts"

  17. [ QUOTE ]
If everone who complained would just make a global channel and team together, we wouldn't see these kind of threads.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Actually, if it were the other way around, I think it'd solve everyone's issue.

Make it so that people can farm whatever they want, can create farms, whatever. With two restrictions:

1.) If an arc is made as a farm is must be labeled as such with a special tag that excludes it from all searches not using that tag. Failure to label it means losing that MA slot forever.

2.) Advertising for MA farm teams/arcs in public channels is forbidden, and punished harshly.

This solves everyone's problem. The farms are out of sight/out of mind of those who are sick of seeing nothing but farm broadcasts and sick of wading through farms in the MA to find a story arc. It also makes the farms less visible so we don't need to worry those who are concerned new players will think this game is nothing but farming MA. Newbies who find farms will have had to look for them, specifically.

It also makes the farmers happy as they can go off in their own little rinse-repeat mindless world and be left alone.

Farmers could certainly create a global channel to advertise farms in if they wished, or to find other farm teams, but they won't be clogging broadcast anymore.

    Everyone is happy.

    AE for PvP

    [ QUOTE ]
i'ld be happy if you could just select ANY of the maps available inside the MA and set it to an arena type mode.

Would make team pvp interesting on multi floor maps with lifts and actual jails.

What was said on the site...Twixt" became perhaps the game's most reviled, abused player because his playing methods were unpopular.

Thats a bunch of bull. Probably only about 1-2% of the player base, probably less, knew Twixt. Played on one server, mainly in a PvP zone...not that many people really. I didnt know who this person was untill this.

They need to change that crap cause it's a lie. A big fat one.

    [/ QUOTE ]
This is a normal media practice - exaggerate and sensationalize a 'fact' that is not easily refuted. Can you PROVE it's not true?

    [/ QUOTE ]

I know from experience that most media people are lazy and do about zero fact checking. Perpetuating a media hoax is immensely simple. Reports will quite literally swallow anything if you present it in the right way, and will do almost no legwork (if actually no legwork) to verify if it's true. Sadly, "news" is now just a form of entertainment and has no bearing on truth any more.

We learn that the Rikti didn't destroy their own homeworld; no natural disaster occurred there. They were engaged in a protracted war with an advanced species from another world. In a last-ditch effort to save their own species, they jumped through a dimensional rift to arrive in our own universe. Their intention was to depopulate our planet and take it for their own. (Heck, it served them once before, right?)

[/ QUOTE ]The Rikti's homeworld wasn't destroyed... The Rikti invaded earth due to a Nemesis plot (seriously!)... Play the RWZ arcs

    [/ QUOTE ]

    I'm getting there.

    [/ QUOTE ]

You'll learn all about Rikti politics in the RWZ arcs. They're actually generally a pretty peaceful race who (because of the aforementioned Nemesis Plot) were convinced they were fighting for their lives and allowed their militant branch of their government to essentially take over who then, even after the war ended, decided to take a more aggressive stance in the future.

It's alot like the story of the Mimbari in Babylon 5 actually. Except instead of aliens with head protrusions and advanced technology, they're modified humans from another dimension with head protrusions and advanced technology.

    Not me.

I always have a couple of different 'active' characters I'm playing. If I hit a dead spot with one of them, I switch to someone else.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    This.
I don't even have a "main". I didn't understand what people meant when I first started playing and people would say "this is my main". With all the great choices for power combinations and costumes, I can't imagine sticking with just one, or even primarily one, character from 1-50. I'm all over the map. I have characters from level 5-50 and everywhere in between, so I've always got a character to suit whatever mood I'm in.
