Quote:In that case....What I'm most interested to find out from you guys is which characters' outfits do the best job of portraying the character's story visually. (I.e., you take one look at the character and can tell what their 'deal' is) or, alternatively, which visuals are just really appealing, regardless of story considerations.
If you simply like a character's story but DON'T like the visual, leave that out of this thread. It'll help me tally up the results of the visuals you actually like.
Marauder's looks have grown on me a lot. He certainly looks the part of someone who forced his way through hell.
Emperor Cole's uniform portays his utopian ideals very well, though his madness less so.
Noble Savage is great in how he is and looks like a wasted man. Wretch, same. It's the lack of symmetry.
Numina has the mystic look down pat. -
The beta fire shield was deliberately removed because it didn't look like it could block anything.
You'll notice the graphics were reused in the Dark shield.
Also? Female Reptillian face still gone. -
A few of mine, with their origins.
Agent of Discord - Whoo boy. This one started life with a Son/Son defender I never really played, Bass Silence. He wore white Tech Crey armor with blue markings, and a helmet. On a whim, I created a evil twin/praetorian/whatever for him, mostly because I liked how his outfit looked with the colors changed to black with yellow and in the (then brand new) Thief hood. He was named Bass Discord, a Son/Son corruptor which I also never played.
Fast forward some time, I feel like trying out a Mercenaries/Dark Mastermind. Mostly wanted to see how Spec Ops look. Browsing through my saved costumes, I come across Bass Discord's outfit. I liked the Discord bit, so I wanted to work that in. The phrase Agent of Discord crossed my mind - I wasn't aware there was a badge by that name.
In the end, Agent of Discord stopped using that outfit, but he became my first 50.
The second character I want to talk about is Winterborn. I am not one to find theme songs for my characters. I didn't for Winterborn. For him, the song found the character.
The song? Cruxshadows - This Sacrifice, better known as Winterborn. The song, for me, was perfect for a hero, a normal man who has powers, and though he has doubts, he puts his life down to protect others, time and again, even when he knows it will eventually kill him. An imperfect man, his hands bloody, who fights to protect.
Only problem? The name was taken. Winter Born didn't satisfy me. On a whim, I sent a tell to the owner of the name on Virtue. It turned out, the character WinterBorn was a lvl 4 or so created years ago by the owner's child. He deleted it for me. There was more rejoicing.
The only question now was the archetype and powersets. I knew I wanted him to be defensive. That meant Defender or Tanker. I tried out Cold/Ice defender, and it was even kinda fun, but around lvl 20 I realized that... it's not what I had in mind. He doesn't help from the sidelines. He puts down his life. He takes the hits. A Tanker it was, then.
I knew I couldn't play an Ice/Ice tanker. Of the two powersets, Ice Armor was much more appealing. In the end, I settled on Ice Armor/Super Strength. And sweet lord, did I love the character. Winterborn is my fourth (of five) lvl 50 to date. -
Oh yeah, because everybody is okay releasing all their details into the wild via facebook -.-

Hmm. It seems you don't need to unlock Vincent or Lorenz to work with them. Good to know. Still. Gonna have to roll a new character come Freedom, it seems.
One down, one to go. -
Just so we're clear here, 10 Alignment = 1 Morality.
Whoever named those should be flogged.
And my problem is, Morality tips have no 'dismiss this cotnact' option. -
1. Is there a way to drop a Morality tip? I want the other mission in my level band but I really don't want to grind the Alignment missions again.
2. Vincent Ross' arc lets you go to Lorenz Ansaldo, Vincent Dubrovski or Diviner Maros for extra objectives and a badge, but only if you worked with them before - how, if at all, does it work with Ouroboros? -
Quote:All of what you just said is player speculation. It's never addressed in the arc.I'm pretty sure it was, actually. Something along the lines of 'everyone having a Mediporter would completely overload and blow the system'. That and, when it comes to the likes of the Praetorian War, getting meta-class fighters up and back into the fight ASAP to make sure tomorrow even happens is kind of a top priority.
I liked the Cooling arc. The mission with the three SWAT sergeants attached to you, I became incredibly protective of them. The first time me and a friend ran it, we slowly but surely lost all of them. What surprised us both was how we actually went 'NO!' over chat when they got ganked.
Second time I ran it I was very careful, letting them rest up between mobs. That, to me, is a sign of good writing; when even standard NPCs become important to me.
And, yes. I was doing what I could to keep those policemen alive. -
Ever since I6, Archetypes were divided into the red and blue ones. There was never a need for another way to check a character's alignment. A Blaster was a hero, a Stalker was a villain. You logged on, you glanced at your friends list, you knew who was playing on which side. The arrival of GR upset this, with side-switching and characters created in Praetoria being allowed to pick sides freely. Still, there was a certain amount of inertia -a redside archetype was much more likely to be a redside character.
I21 promises to change that, doing away completely with the sides taken by non-epic archetypes. I think it's a good point to ask ourselves, would it be best if the archetypes were allowed to change names, depending on whether they're heroes or villains?
Personally, I think that yes, they should, but only if the devs (...and us, really) can come up with some names that eclipse the archetypes really well - and not the in-game archetypes, either. The comic book character archetypes is what I'm referring to here, the ones that the original devs in one of their blogs talked about when explaining their choices.
Another good question to rise is, what about those characters who start in Praetoria? A third set of name, one that is only used for 20 levels, and only adds to the confusion? Somehow I doubt it. I for one would vouch that they use the heroic names, since they are members of the Powers Division, so at least in theory, at least as a cover story, the good guys. But then, having Loyalists use Hero names and Resistance use Villain ones would be just delectably ironic.
But let me start this discussion off with a few choice suggestions.
Destroyer, Destructor and Devastator show a clear villainous meaning and a simplicity of purpose - untamed damage. A fitting name for a villainous Blaster.
Bruiser shows a certain amount of brutality but also puts some emphasis on offense. Good for a villainous Scrapper or a heroic Brute, with the latter having the added bonus of the added alliterative appeal.
Nictus is really a no-brainer name for a villainside Warshade. Their Peacebringer counterparts are tricker however. Perhaps something to the tune of Fallen Peacebringer, which while not too handy, is to the point.
Commander, Leader, Officer and similar all work well to describe the commanding type of Nick Fury type that a heroic Mastermind would be.
Juggernaut, while a very good descriptor of a villainside Tanker, is in fact too good, infringing on, well. You know who.
I'm sure others can be found, but, well. Nothing of sufficient quality comes to me now. Thoughts, people?

Quote:She's there, at least, was just now. Doesn't say outright what happened to her but certainly explains why.I'll definitely double check to make sure she's there and all her info's correct, that's a bit mysterious. Sadly I probably won't get a chance to check for a coupla days, depends on how my schedule - and the downtime - goes.
Thanks again!
And BTW, the old arcs you had your eye on still on the platter, MGM? :3 -
Quote:3. The contact entirely dismisses and tramples over all of Malta's mystique.I have two problems with the Roy Cooling arc:
1. If you came from Praetoria, you got a big song and dance when leaving about how the PPD are the good guys in Primal. Then, you arrive in Primal, and Roy is the contact that shows up on your compass, so you go to him, and immediately run into dirty cops. Not exactly inspiring for an exPraetorian over the choice to come help out Primal.
2. Hitting this arc at Lvl 20 or 21, and then having two EB's at the end is, in my opinion, too much for a charater with only 8 insp slots. My tray is usually empty by the time I'm done with Castillo. (Yeah, I could exit and go get more, but what a hassle)
4. The big mysterious reason why mediports cannot be issued out is never revealed.
Quote:A final note: Warrant was pretty much the only person in Powers Division my ambitious punk loyalist/rogue ever really respected, and after seeing what happened to him, he made sure the person responsible got just as bad or worse. He added a set of gold-on-gold spaulders to his 'hero' costume to honor the man, and they're still part of it today.
Quote:This...this is what bothers me the most about Scirocco's arc. Look, I'm a villain. I'm not stupid. Why the *%#!? do I need a jumped-up Arachnos lackey to tell me that letting my new friend and mentor Scirocco eliminate me and my kind is bad again? This isn't something I can figure out for myself in about five seconds?
It also bothers me that I must betray Ghost Widow for no reason other than to preserve the status quo. -
Faster shifting - yes please.
Build Up, Conserve Power, Dull Pain in forms - yes please.
KB to KD: Only on Solar Flare. Absolutely yes on Solar Flare. Definitely not on Radiant Strike. Hell, make it 100% on Radiant Strike.
Some manner of buff to the shields: Sounds good.
Light Form getting the SoW treatment: Sounds good.
Light Form getting the Shadow Meld treatment: Sounds great.
My suggestion: Punch-voke on Dwarf Strike, Smite. -
Quote:I use Glowing Aura set to black to suggest that my character's appearance is just a glamour.Originally Posted by ModernMythNot sure if this has been asked for, but I would like a super-subtle eye glow aura. I mean, so subtle that you can barely tell it's there. I have alot of characters that are 'super normals' or whose powers shouldn't really affect their appearance that much. It might also be nice for the RPers or others who have 'secret identity' costumes, to give a subtle hint that the character is more than they seem to be.
Quote:The Ascension Armor and Victorian Decor auras are the first auras to demonstrate some very exciting tech - FX geo that scales with physique to avoid clipping issues. We can do a lot with this new tech, and a decent energy armor aura is definitely on our wishlist.
Quote:For that matter, I'd love to hear everyone's feedback on the 20.5 auras, especially the path auras. It's the first time we've released a big batch of these, so I'd like to know your reaction to them.
Binary: I love it. Might not have a use for it, but that's only because I don't play a old character of mine, who is a manifestation of a reality-warping computer program. Needs "Eyes". Also, it'd be nice to have a Binary Light option, where the strands of code come less often.
Boils: Again. I don't have a use for it, but it's a very lovely aura filling a niche that was empty before. Fabulous for some concepts. Great to have it, looks great. Might have to find a use for it in the AE.
Fairy Dust: Not for me but good to have. Ultimately, no opinion.
Feathers: See above. I'm not sure the molt works right on Huge characters though.
Ghosts: Oh sweet lord I love this one so very much. Perfect for the combat aura of a dakness channeling character. The sharp turns the ghosts sometimes make could look better, but what can you do.
Magnetic: Ooh, I like this one. Now if only we could have a version of Atomic without the inner glow and in which the particles follow those slower paths...
Pixels: Also awesome for a reality-rewriting character. Also needs "Eyes".
Slime: Oh lord this is glorious. For all of your bleeding monster needs. Upper Body should be renamed Arms IMO though. Also, unlocking both this and Path should give a secret "long lasting" version.
Path Auras: ...these are interesting, but they need an off switch (combat aura) badly. -
I'd rather it wasn't self-stackable, but that's personal preference. I don't want to have to spam it as often as it's up to maintain the full resistance, and it threatens to be too powerful with high -rech builds, or too worthless in normal ones.
-
My Warshade is Sorrowdancer, the Nictus' name being Harmony of Sorrow.
Other Kheldian names I've used in Harmony's backstory are Scourge of Eternity, Harbinger of Twilight, Black Hole Sun and the Peacebringer general, Wrath of a Newborn Sun. -
Quote:Target -res, self +res (no stacking).Well thought out, and not game-breaking. I like these buffs. I still wish Sonic Siphon worked more like Power Siphon or Siphon Speed (granting the user a buff) but I suppose that would be hard to justify based on the theme of the set.
/signed.
Why not? -
Quote:I'm sorry, but you are plain wrong.Nope, it's always been this way. The random +1 groups are always the same size as the +0, unless the mission specifically calls for it to do otherwise.
As long as the mission was spawned for more than 1, groups +1 to mission level were always 1 player equivalent smaller. -
Agreed. It'd be more than nice.
If you want to keep the 0.7, give it to Focused Burst. -
Dwarf Mire does not have Dwarf Flare's soft control of knockdown. Also, it used to be a clone of human form Mire, meaning Black Dwarf had virtually no AoE damage potential.
-
A polearm pack.
Adds the Staff (smashing), Polearm (smashing + lethal) and Ghost Scythe (negative/lethal) powersets and power customization for various blast and control sets that let them use a staff.
Oh, also some staff fiddling emotes. -
I'm pretty sure I made a suggestion how this could be made to work. And it came with badges, too!

Quote:Build Up, Conserve Power and Orbiting Death. Those three, and no more. The former two are short-duration buffs which make Peacebringer forms slightly better without overpowering them, while being so much more convenient than dropping into human form for 5-6s of buff. Again, the idea here isn't to make the buff stronger. It's to make it more convenient.I agree, but I'd like to mention this is a dangerous road to start down. If build up is accessible in nova, why not also in dwarf? And if build up works in forms, why not let warshades use Sunless Mire in forms? What other powers should be usable in forms? Heals? Shields? Stygian Circle? Light Form? Eclipse?
Orbiting Death? It's a suggestion of mine that predates Dwarf Mire getting the Follow Up treatment, but I still stand by it. It'd make the crap power (serious, wtf is up with that end cost?) perhaps worth looking into. Especially if it was made to taunt while in Lobster form.
