Quote:By still keeping their goal? The thing with favourite combos, is that I like to do them as often as possible. You could of had way, way more recharge.
We wanted a strong Set-based build using mostly or all "inexpensive" sets*
Sure you can go around monsterslotting, but unlikely you can get more out of this unless you gonna spend quite alot more for the better sets. -
Quote:They have been stated, several times, in several ways, in several voices. If there are problems with this new forum, they should be stated, not shouted.
But if you prefer, we can observe each made topic one by one and see where it flaws?
Funny one those, dispite wrong title, its the first one i see that really adds something to just a 'build dump'

Funny, he clearly say: ST attack, then you sum up Inferno and Blizzard, being AoE. (though u can use them on a single target, that is not a ST attack).
Though crash nukes are biased, it has a huge recharge and a massive crash, they are not really part of anyone's normal ST rotation. -
On paper bots are the most toughest, with their defense (slotted) and heal they can survive quite some time. Thugs are close runner up, they have also a huge chunk of defense but less softcontrol and no heal.
Although i must say Necro is pretty solid also, with their selfheal, Lich fear and graveknight knockup, they are a nice bunch of zombies.
Demons i put between bots/thugs and necro, decent softcontrol, heal and shield are pretty solid.
Then Ninja, mainly due fire rain from Oni and the KB/KU from the pets, because outside that.. they are squishy. If Jonin however uses calltrops correcty, they get a huge chunck of softcontrol added.
At the bottom i put Mercs. Softcontrol is too short, too long recharge, they get rooted too often with their powers, medic is a plain joke. The only advantage they have, they are ranged. -
KB you also can consider the -4 KB IO's, if you are short on powerslots.
CJ (immobilize) and acrobactics (mag2 hold, KB) are pretty solid, but you still have to bypass sleep and stun, 2 also very common mez problems. Though as they are non-dmg toggles, you will keep them running even if you are stunned or slept, so once it runs out you still wont be tossed around due knockback.
I believe there is a unique 20% reduce duration IO, already helps alot, but aside the KB IO or CJ/Acro, having a breakfree available at any given time might be the better solution. -
If only they would have been more rational when they thought up this idea and its flaws..
Dont use something 'flat' to build something 'dynamic', its as simple as that. If Zwil was focused so badly on new players (or veterans that have little knowledge of the game), why was this layout chosen in the first place? -
-
Why? Pretty easy.
Defenders cant blast as hard, so no go. All other heroes have no focus on ranged.
As corrupters and dominators were villainside, wich i dont like, i had to blast.
Do i still blast? No.
Corrupters, domi's, MM's and defenders (with the 30% dmg buff solo its nice).
All my blasters except my Arch/dev are created before CoV or before Going Rogue. I still play them since they are pretty nice slotted and once in a while fun to play, but i never made a new blaster since Going Rogue (and now u can even freely choose your side, i will probably never make a new one).
Blasters do not feel like blasters anymore like they were in the old days; glass cannons. With IO's you can make them as tough as any common scrapper, their crash nuke become quite obsolete and their ranged advantage has been replaced by my preference to corrupters, stronger defenses and still reasonable offense. -
In incarnate trials you do pretty well, the major damage there is SL, energy and psi, well gues what elec has on pretty nice resist (or even cap resist on NRG). With the lovely side effects of recovery debuff resistance and recharge resistance (pesty psi mobs), you are pretty solid in most parts of the trial.
You can pimp it up with the defensive toggles (CJ, weave, manu etc) to bump up your defense to pretty nice levels and pop a few purple to become pretty much unstoppable.
The only minor downside is Grounded, as the protection from this doesnt work while in the air, but if you take fly/hover, that is really no problem (if a immoblize power has -fly, once you hit the ground protection works again).
Perhaps MA might be a more interesting choice, less AoE but the 10% buff from stormkick gives a huge buff to survivability. -
Perma Lightform would be a easy way to go then, saw one recently that did the job.
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=273468
offcourse free to tweak here and there, but seems pretty solid. -
Hmm, is mids' going wrong on Shatter armor? Stating 461 dmg on the tooltip, 90% buffed is harldy 300dmg, only making Mako's bite proc hitting the 461dmg.
-
I never done a I-trial with that few tanks/brutes that my squishy 50 tank had to go out to pull the AV. You can always pick up adds during the AV battles, keeping them at bay saves alot of floorinspections.
Pop an extra purple or so and you're pretty safe most of the time, stay in range of anything that gives some healing, you can get around pretty good. -
I think both will gain equal ammount of buff from FE, its roughly 50% of the damage done by the power, so the base values are still capped damage on both sides. Only Scrapper might loose a bit, afaik FE doesnt benefit from criticals, where brute might take the upper hand again.
-
Anyone can think up 4 very good synced up sets that can perform on pretty much any level. At the end, personaly, it all boils down to what each player wants to play.
From there you can build anything, a decent tank with a sonic support already becomes deadly, pump up the defense with arachnos or time (FF is not really offensive), increase overal damage with a MM, add some melee fun with a scrapper or brute (brute would be better as second tank), posibilities are limitless.
Just make up your mind wich AT you would like to play, from there mix it up to a nice solid team. -
So for who is the forum actualy made?
All fun and stuff, but new players and f2p veterans have little to no use in this forums, IO's and Incarnate are unavailable to them. Most builds with IO's are made to have certain 'dump powers', not making them that efficient for non-IO players.
Then look at the 3 topics currently in this forum:
1. Only a mid-export dump
2. Short forum and export dump
3. FULL forum and export dump
Not only people are overwhelmed by the huge list of information, there is no info about the exact usage of the build or purpose of the build (farmer, pvp, casual, cheap, max recharge etc).
And even if people ever get IO acces, you even seen the IO's used? Apocolypse, Kin Combat, Lotg's and Hami-O's, whats the freaking use for that on a avarage player?
Like you said:
Quote:Useless. But what about from the viewpoint of people who have either never been to the forums or are completely new to our Community?
Asume, in time, this forum will be filled with non-confirming-the-format-topics of freaking expensive IO-set builds, how can new people search in that? In the AT topics there are only AT-related builds, only AT-related questions. This will just be a dump-place for anyone who made up some fictional build in Mid's without _any_ reason or explenation why the build was made this way.
Looking back at the guides (though some old), several great players even gave several builds in their guide, from SO's for 20/32/50 builds to IO builds and even the 'freaking expensive but perma-stuff' IO builds. They gave hints and tips, variations on certain sets due whatever reason, that is stuff new players want to read, not some dump-hole of fictional builds. -
Quote:I gues a /fire scrapper can bump it up even higher, for having Fiery embrace?Brute damage scale (.75) x Brute damage cap (7.75) = 5.8125
Scrapper damage scale (1.125) x Scrapper damage cap (5.00) = 5.625 before counting criticals, 6.1875 if you average in the 10% crit rate most scrapper attacks would have against a single hard target
So scrappers end up slightly ahead at the damage cap. They also (for "most" primaries and secondaries) are slightly ahead in the absence of damage buffs. With moderate damage buffs, the gap widens, but the brute's higher cap lets them almost catch up at very high buff levels. Brutes can get Gloom though, which counts for a lot on single-target DPS. -
Quote:True, its not the most usefull buff to choose from, i didnt know staff wasnt getting a build up abilty. But wouldnt that be the same with Claw or Dual Blade? Both afaik dont have a buildup power but also rely on a 'hit checked' ability that boost their damage and tohit. Same kinda for dark, but being a AoE would have way higher chance of getting a hit. Basicly you slot your 'buff power' heavy on accuracy, while the rest can go with more damage.I'm not saying extra +tohit is bad, I'm saying if your accuracy/tohit is already good enough that you can reliably him these mobs FOUR TIMES (3 to build perfection, the 4th to actually get this effect) then you don't even need the effect. It's entirely superfluous. Wasted.
If you've already got a 95% chance to hit your target, an extra +15% does exactly nothing for you. And if you're having a hard time hitting them, well then good luck even getting the bonus in the first place.
EDIT: Also, if the set follows the same formula as Dual Pistols it won't be getting Build Up. Swap Ammo replaces Aim in Dual Pistols, there's no reason to believe the Form powers won't be replacing Build Up in Staff Fighting. -
Quote:My mistake, i meant positional defense based (be it IO'ed or setwise).Send an Ice Tanker against the psi enemies, and they'll drop just as fast. Or an /EA Brute/Scrapper. Only Positional defense sets enjoy much protection against Psi attacks.
However, some Resistance-based sets get decent resistance to Psi protection, including Dark and Electric Armor.
Quote:I have no clue what you mean here. Neither defense or resists "scale" in any way. They are the same amount, but higher or lower level enemies will do more or less damage, and will have more or less accuracy bonuses. If that's wht you mean when you use "scale" then your statement is incorrect. 90% resists will negate 90% of your normal damage, just as 45% defense will prevent 90% of your normal damage against even con enemies.
Additonal, i want to see your 15-20sec on a fire tank once you get hit with -recharge from psi.
And as for 'cap resist', i mean within their set. Additional i dont believe any resist buff give Psi resist, at least thermal and sonic dont. My granite can still die in seconds once Arachnos bring out their psi mobs. -
Quote:Their 'name', i dont see anywhere stated that its 'their' contest. NCsoft could just have made this contest and gave some cash to MMORPG to advertise it there. You know, like how you advertise your game normaly.well, I was more referring to Scarlet posting this here when the EU isn't eligible...also, you'd have to take your qualms w/ MMORPG.com, since it's their contest.
I just wait for the next event, giving out Europe costume codes at 2-3AM. -
I asked this question quite a while ago, nobody seem to know the exact answer. Why is defense if favor of pretty much anything in the game?
90% cap resist in trials wont keep you alive, softcap (53%) does keep you alive (unless you get hit really unlucky). The benefits of resistance faded when IO's were added to the game, resistance will be hit by debuffs, defense wont.
hey modified the damage on trials considerable (to 1 shot wonders), defense can scale, resistance cannot.
As for 'defense can be 2 shotted', i want to see a cap resist versus a cap defense in LAM trial, Psi will shread any resistance tank, but defense based will survive (majority of resistance sets have no protection at all against psi). -
Why would a tohit be bad? You can make sure the next few blows will more likely hit, same for -defense. Its a follow-up effect, if you open up with buildup you can be pretty sure the next few blows also hit.
(basicly the flaw of DB, no hit is no combo, no combo = gimp).
Must say these 2 sets look way more interesting then StJ and BR combined, couldnt they just swap out these with the current released 2? -
Big thanks on the price indication, thats gonna be a huge investement (then again, my brute was expensive too but didnt take that long).
Hoping to hit 35 tonight, should i straight to for APP or first pick up choking cloud? I kinda hate air sup. by now, as i am running ranged all the time, having to go melee for some extra damage aint really funny.
I was thinking about getting the Predator badge for the 7.5% recharge bonus. -
Fast pace, slow pace, each AT, each set has a certain situation they perform subpar with the rest of the team. ST focused sets (like dark) will fall behind against AoE focused sets when plundging through hordes of mobs, alike toggle debuffers that cant even keep their toggles up because mobs die too fast.
Earth trollers are masters of control, but lack serious damage. Having a team that doesnt need lockdown at all, you just run along and pretend you're busy. The odd few debuffs you can keep up are the -defense, at the end your team still benefit your pressence in the team.
Trials are different cookie, BAF i have a huge contribution of my MM, i pick up adds, i guard doors easy (unless they get confused), LAM however i lack serious, due the high speed of moving around the map and indoor, while BaB keeps jumping around. Underground same story though enough parts where you can shine again (regen boss where you have to take down those pilons), specialy last room where confuse is actualy more annoying to your pets.
But nothing is different to any other set or AT, they also have their good and bad moments, where they are performing at top or just running around to look pretty.
Since the supremecy fix on trials MM's gained quite alot of output and overal usage (at +3 incarnate all your pets become lvl53, T1 48 gets a +5 shift). -
Quote:-Wipe at entrance of a 'hot door'Say what you like, but there are things my Mastermind can do that whole teams have failed at.
Not bad for an AT that's "subpar to pretty much every other AT."
-aggro not 1, not 2, but 3 groups of mobs due a runner
-Stand around doing nothing waiting for powers to recharge
-Blocking the door with demons/bots
-Go get coffee while wacking an AV in trials
-Having a conversation with your pets (pet_say) because others in party dont say anything.
Yeah, thats pretty much true -
