Quote:This. Benumb has an equal -regen to Lingering Rad, but what's really awesome about it for many AVs is the -special.Actually Cold and Radiation both have -500% regeneration, although Cold has it on a slightly longer recharge (120 vs 90). Keep in mind though that the debuff duration of Heat Loss is only 30 seconds and can't be perma'ed. The perma part is the endurance boost. It's still a huge amount of -resistance when combined with Sleet but not quite as extreme as it look at first (though still quite nice).
If an AV has a defense-based Godmode and is Benumbed when they use it, it'll give them less defense than they would gain from it otherwise.
Benumb + Sleet = lolElude -
I had a EM/FA Brute for a while, post-ET changes. It wasn't actually that bad, but he was heavily IOd out for recharge. Being able to use HF every 12ish seconds helps a lot.
He was great for soloing set to small team difficulties, but I hated playing him on teams because of all the corpseblasting I ended up doing with ET and TF.
He hit like an absolute train though, BU + Fury + FE + ET/TF = monstrous
I say if you like the concept go for it. If you don't mind the long animations, it's a very solid combo for soloing.
The Brute would be more squishy than the Tanker though. A lot moreso. You could either build for a lot of recharge like I did and rely on stunning/killing stuff and HF or build for some positional defenses. You can quite easily and cheaply get defense in the 20s to all 3 positions (or skimp on AoE and get more melee) which makes a huge difference for /FA.
Edit: please, please do not slot Dark Oblit for -tohit if you take it. If you want to debuff stuff, use Darkest Night. It's much better and has a damage debuff as well. Dark Obliteration is a ranged AoE damage power, slot it as such. -
How's that breakdown coming along, Dazz?

Quote:I read it, as well as the original stuff he came out with about it.OK! Did anybody actually read this? I actually find it very interesting! It's really intriguing to look into "our" server and see what rules we have created based on moralities, ethics, etc. versus what the "actual" rules of the game are. I think in the end it just showed that maybe we aren't the only "drama" server and that in fact we all can be complete udder butt nuggets from time to time. I would be totally interested to read more about his observations from the study. I think we all could learn something from it!
Everything you've said about in-game moralities and ethics I agree with. That stuff is really fascinating.
The problem is that he didn't really do an experiment (even in the loosest sense of the word) to explore any of those phenomenae. He was a tool in PvP zones and then thought it'd be awfully clever to say it was just research.
His findings were that if you're a total doosh (relevant link), people respond negatively to you. Shock, horror, stop the presses.
The ways in which people interact with one another in online games and how that differs from RL is something that interests me a lot personally. But this was not a study of that, it was a farce.
Then again I also think that wanting to physically harm him, let alone kill him, is absurd.
Droning people in a pvp zone and cutting peoples ears off in a war zone are not exactly comparable, Force. They're both offensive actions that can be taken under the guise of "hur hur its not explicitly against the rules" but they're hardly in the same league. -
Quote:The corpus amygdaloideum speaks the truth.I'm tellin' ya, the best Mids tutorial is to keep making builds. There's nothing to fear. It's not like an echoing voice comes from your computer, telling you you'll never get to perma Hasten using Tempered Readiness for recharge bonuses, or gives you the error message "Your build sucks." Make one, and if you don't like it, delete it. No one has to know.
While I'm sure Silas could write an excellent guide, the only way to really figure out how Silas be doin' it is to use the program.
I could make a guide that just explains stuff in Mids or points out things to look out for (FFB procs turned on etc) but the best way to get a feel for Mids is to just play with it.
Just make a lot of builds, mess around with it. If you've got any questions I'd be happy to answer, just shoot me a PM.
In my experience, what makes a great build is getting feedback from friends/other knowledgeable people. I've had several times where I just couldn't get the stats on a build that I wanted and couldn't see what I could rework to get them until I showed it to a friend. You can't see your own back, as it were. Know how to ask for help and feedback and appreciate the feedback that you get, even if you don't like or agree with it.
There's no such thing as a perfect build or a build that cannot be improved, (anyone who thinks they've got one is kidding themselves) it's why with all my build chunks I posted with my guides I tried to explain a little what I was going for and how it could be improved. Just try to get builds that a)do what you want and b) work for you.
No point having a build with zomguber stats if it doesn't have the powers you want or you can't make it work for you.
So uh, tl;dr is just play around with Mids. Make builds, even if it's for characters you don't have and probably never will. Try out high recharge builds, try out high recovery builds, try out softcap builds, try out +hp builds, etc. Try 'em all out for different ATs, so you can get a feel for how you can get what. I'm happy to take a look at a build you draw up if you want some feedback
Hope that helps.
Edit: passive aggressive failtags are fail, try harder Trollsworth. -
ElectroHawk, ahaha those damn Steam deals, get me almost every time. it's how I got ME1+2 and Dragon Age, plus Oblivion and Morrowind for when I've got a little nostalgia nostalgia goin' on goin' on
On Borderlands though, god I love that game. A friend got me into it (the same friend who got me into CoH and we all know how that turned out
) and it's such great fun coop. I'm spoiled now though, since we played coop right the way through so solo seems boring now.
I wouldn't want to play coop online with randomers though, part of the reason my friend and I had such a good time was because we played the coop cooperatively. That kind of game tends to make a lot of people online play coop competetively >.>
Slacker, I've actually beaten HL2 ages ago, I've just had ep 1 and 2 sitting around for ages. I'd gotten halfway or less through ep1 a few times, but last weekend I sat down and did the whole thing in two sittings. It's more a question of getting myself to do it than actual difficulty of doing it
Horus, Damn I'm glad I went on a Fallout 3 nostalgia binge a few weeks back or your post would have had me adding another game on my to-enjoy list. I had played it ages ago but only played one of the DLCs, so I got em all. They're all varying degrees of awesome. -
Heh, fixed. Thanks for catching that, Seldom
My point still stands for Dark and Traps -
Now you're just being obtuse.
It's already been pointed out to you that there is a whole slew of sets whose powers are all useable solo.
None of the sets I mentioned have any ally-only powers. Dark and Traps are two of the most powerful support sets in the game, neither single one has an ally-only power. Storm only has 1 and its skippable.
City of Sidekicks nothin'.
Edit: whoooops -
That means I have two months to beat Mass Effect 1+2, Dragon Age:Origins and Awakening, Halflife 2 Episode 2 and Zelda Spirit Tracks.
Wish me luck :3 -
Empath who buffs, blasts and heals > Empath who only buffs and heals > Empath who only heals

Permadom doesn't require that big of an investment, especially for Mind/.
Doms are incredibly powerful, but they're not force multipliers like Controllers. -
+1 to drop Inferno, take both Caltrops and RoF.
I only take the nukes on Corrs who have a fast and effective way to regain end so they're only out of the fight very briefly. Heatloss, Transference, Power Sink, etc.
You could take Power Sink on a Fire/Traps but then you'd be missing out on Scorpion Shield. Not worth it, IMO. -
In terms of raw DPS, iirc it's about 340 but not certain. It's definitely 300+.
As a Fire/Rad though, you've got LR. The -regen on that equates to a lot of effective DPS as long as its maintained on the GM.
Someone better with numbers can give you more information on the details. -
I softcapped my Fire/Fire Dom to smashing/lethal. Still got permadom, but it was a pretty expensive build. Definitely worth it though.
Here's the datachunk if anyone is interested:

It's silly to take sold drops into account.
You could get an Armageddon off the first kill, voilĂ , several hundred million a minute.
Inf/Min is only meaningful as a metric if you only count raw inf from defeats. -
Quote:Yes, EM Pulse is equally strong but it only lasts 15 seconds and is on a 300 second recharge.I was once laughed at for making a fire/traps so I didn't follow through with it. *sadface*
BTW: Rad's EM Pulse is just as strong of a regen debuff as PGT
PGT has a 90 second recharge and the debuff lasts 40 seconds, iirc.
It's not the same. That's like saying Howling Twilights -regen is just as strong as Lingering Rad. They're both -500%, but LR is much more powerful as a -regen power because of the recharge/duration stats.
Cherry, I actually could do that now I'm all done with these guides. What kind of stuff would you want to see in a Mids guide? -
Quote:Uh, yeah. I said that Spin was a stupidly good AoE, just that is has a small radius. As someone who is spoiled by Footstomp, I can't stand the 8' radius on other PBAoEs.I'd just like to address this briefly. The only advantages that Fire Sword Circle has over Spin is a bit larger radius (10' vs 8') and fire instead of lethal damage. FSC at 80% fury and 3 damage SOs does 277 damage on average, while Spin under the same conditions does 327 with double-stacked Follow Up which is a reasonable expectation even only with SOs. With a single application of Follow Up, it does 303.
In fact, of all AoEs available to brutes in primary sets, only Lightning Rod and 1k Cuts do more damage. Shadow Maul also does with even 1 mob worth of Soul Drain, but hitting more than 3 targets with it reliably is practically impossible. -
All of those characters would be numerically better off as Brutes. The difference would be fairly small, though.
I'd say it comes down to which side you prefer to play on (GR coming soon but not that soon) and whether you prefer the mechanics of Fury or Crits.
Of those combos, both Claws and Fire are great for taking out hard targets. Fire has better AoE, though. Spin is a stupidly good AoE but it's got a smaller radius than FSC. Shockwave is a good cone but the KB might piss you off, especially with /Inv.
Since you want to do both single hard targets and AoE minion munching, I'd definitely go with Fire as the primary.
For the secondary, SR with just SOs, Weave and a Steadfast +3% def (very cheap and attainable) gets you to just under 40% defense to all three positions. Combat Jumping would push you over into 41ish. For a cheap build, /SR is really, really easy to softcap to all positions and you've got 20% recharge built in. The downside is you've got nothing but inspirations/natural regen to regain any lost health unless you take Aid Self.
/Inv with similarly basic slotting gets about 21% def to all types with 1 foe in Invinc range, 70% smashing/lethal res and all other resists in the low 20s except for Psi. For that, you've also got Dull Pain which is a fantastic heal/+hp power. With SOs it's up 2/3 of the time.
Hope that helps -
Ty for the kind words all
Quote:You don't have to make a Fire/Traps for AV/GM soloing, you'd be able to do it just fine with your DP/Traps. That's the beauty of PGTs -regen being so high, DPS doesn't determine whether or not you can solo an AV/GM, it only determines how fast. Thanks Silas ... another great guide that I'll refer to for finishing my dp/traps build and again when i get around to making (another corruptor!) a fire/traps for AV/GM soloing.
-Llew.
With PGT you could solo an AV with BrawlIt'd just take longer.
Although if you just want another Corr then I'm all for it -
I've actually been meaning to go back and give it some neater formatting. Either using different colours/sizes or whatever so it's less WALL OF TEXT-y.
-
Quote:Yeah, I also prefer the bumrush method to the sleep method, simply because I generally go on support-stacked teams and its so much faster. If you've got some good Corrs to neuter the AVs/buff the team into gods or a few VEATs so everyone is softcapped = go nutsYou got me, I'm not the dominator. Admittedly I've only run on 5 or so sleep teams now, but the last couple I've heard "oh **** X got free" followed by the dominator splatting and a bunch of the AV's running over. And because the team was relying on the sleep crutch so much they panic at more than one enemy and promptly die.
I'm usually on my trapper and much prefer when we pull multiples cause they all die at about the same time with the aoe slash.
The last sleeper even made it so we single pulled the Vindicators (this wasn't a MO run either). I mean lvl 50 AV's... I like rushing them all and having them all drop within about 20 seconds of the first one due to the aoe splash and poison trap halting their regen.
For MoRSF runs though, it's better to go with the sleep method. Even if you've got the team buffed to the gills, I personally would rather go a little slower than have two unlucky hits fail the attempt. Much easier to control bad luck if there's only 1 AV on the loose at a time
The thing about it being hard to sleep 'em...I dunno. If you aggro them before sleeping them, Numina can make things difficult by throwing out Clear Minds.
I find it's best to go up fully stealthed and stay in the pool, only jumping up and into LoS of the FP to hit Mass Hypnosis. If you see it miss one of them, hit them with the ST sleep.
