Quote:I just found this article in Google search.
http://www.comicbookmovie.com/fansit.../news/?a=67173
I'm not sure how accurate it is, though, because it mentions (with NCsoft as the "source" for information), that Paragon is still in business working on another project... a followup superhero MMO. Err, I thought they all got pink-slipped!
Yeah, the article isn't exactly precise.
Right away, I see it's saying "all development will stop" on COH by the end of 2012. When, as we all know, development has already stopped. Operation will stop by end of 2012. Quite different things. But an easy mistake for an outsider to make. -
I am kinda bummed that work kept me busy and tired, and I didn't see this until it was too late to donate.
Still, the community is great for getting it done so quickly. -
Really Hard Way is the last badge FemFury needs. Ever!
So, any attempts, I'll be making it to as many attempts as I can. With Ultimate inspirations, and maybe some of those Amplifiers from the Paragon Market. And some team inspirations. Whatever it takes. -
Quote:I would have liked for Catalysts to be usable on HOs. If you played a lot of incarnate content, you could easily have more Catalysts than you could need for ATOs. Being able to use Catalysts on HOs, maybe to buff them up to the old enhancement value might have created some interesting new options. While ED would keep Catalysed HOs from being too crazy powerful. Also, another confession. I was slowly buying up Centrioles at basically nothing and stuffing them into extra storage in adjunct bases, because I figured one day we'd be able to use converters on HOs.
Eventually, I would have suggested it to the devs if they didn't do it on their own. -

Giving only credit to another game is within their legal rights.
But is an unsatisfactory resolution to me, and will leave me with worse feelings regarding the whole matter.
I will mitigate my bad feelings by telling myself that I would have gladly paid those extra dollars that will be outstanding and un-refunded to paragon studios over the last 8 years.
Still, I should burn a lot of my Paragon points on my Premium accounts on something or other before the end date.... -
Heck yes.
And if it includes a way to easily share Mission Architect missions with friends and community, then Double Heck Yes. -
He wrote a pretty good (as in, I found it completely hilarious, given the Ascendant-O background) Mission Architect mission featuring his sleazy agent Saul, as well.

Quote:Um. Why should Arcanaville have to prove she's any more important to NCSoft than anyone else? Where did this standard come from? Do you think it's some kind of put-down to say she's not important to NCSoft? You're yet to explain how you differ from anyone else in being any more important for the bosses at NCSoft.
It's sorta like if I was discussing politics, and you ran up and said "Oh, yeah, well you aren't any more important to President Oboma than anyone else, so just shut up, what you have to say doesn't mean anything!"
A person's level of economic "importance" is really irrelevant to whether the points they are making are right or wrong.
Quote:Considering your real life job is so un important that you've found it actually 'worth it' to devote time away from it for the good of a made up, pixelated world.
By that logic: Warren Buffet plays bridge pretty fanatically, therefore his job is unimportant. -
Zwill is talking live now.
Already, he's nearly choked up once. -
Quote:You won't be discrete with him because block-transfer computations can't be solved that way, and you intend to math him out of existence?I find the guy responsible for the shutdown, and he and I will have some words. Anyone who knows me in the real world, and has seen me in meetings, knows they will be interesting words. I'm definitely not known for being discrete.
If so, that's cool. Just be discreet about it. -

Right now, all I can say is good-bye to all of you crazy, wonderful people on Justice.
Maybe I'll write more later. But for now.... it's a been a pleasure and an honor. Thanks everyone. -
Yeah, that expresses it pretty darn well.
Kudos, sir. That's the way art should communicate.
And dang you for making me cry a bit at work. -
Big thanks to all the Architect community.
I think MA Arc Finder was the global chat channel I found most engaging and interesting to chat on, back in it's heyday.
Special thanks to Venture and PoliceWoman for reviews that both motivated me to improve my arcs, and gave them great exposure.
Of course, thanks to all the other reviewers who gave my two arcs the time to look over and critique.
I had bought more MA slots, and I have literally half-a-dozen half-finished arcs on my hard-drive. Real life kept me from following through on making those, and by the time I was able to get back to them, I was a bit down on the current state of the MA system. Of course, I now regret giving up so easily. The problem with setting aside a creative project because you'll have time for it later is: someday, you may not be able to do it anymore. And with CoH shutting down, that someday is now.
Thanks to all the wonderful writers and architects who entertained me with great arcs. I tried as many of the arcs on MA Arc Finder global chat as I could. And I tried to play every arc that had a thread in the MA section of the forums. So many good stories, too many to list.
I want to single out Chesire Cat. I played those Astoria arcs early on, and that was the point that I really thought that the players could do unique and interesting things with the MA system, taking CoH beyond what the Devs alone could (or would) do. That was the moment I said "this is gonna be cool." From that point on, I made sure to read every review I could, and really follow how the Mission Architect would unfold.
Sigh, I'm proud of at least one arc. Such a shame to think of it going off into the ether. And all the other arcs, of all the other great writers, also going away....
One of the worst parts of CoH shutting down. -
FemFury is only one badge short of having all the badges she can possibly get at this time, but it's The Really Hard Way.
I'd love to get that, but not sure if it will be possible in current environment. And I'm trying to remember when my VIP was supposed to renew. I might lose access to Trials before the servers shut down...
I think there might be one or two of the newer storyarcs I haven't played (Trilogy, the latest SSA), so I should get those out of the way.
Other than that, after 8 years, I think I can say I've just about done it all in this wonderful game. I should be content with that sense of achievement at some point, once my sense of anger and loss over CoH going away finally passes.
Maybe I should take people through my Mission Architect storyarcs, see if I can get my Dev Choice up to 999+ plays. I once had a plan to "tour guide" teams of people through that arc, and pay everyone a 1 Million INF "storyarc bonus" at the end of the run. Considering INF has a time limit now, I doubt that bribe would get people to give up their limited time, now.... -
Quote:Positron said that he and some of the other Devs will log on to the forums next week and openly take questions about the game lore, no restrictions, nothing held back.WE deserve answers about our beloved universe!
Thank you

That should do it.

Quote:X% Paying customerI'm still not a dev.
Although my relationship with the developers has always been ... complex to describe.
Y% Superfan
Z% Unpaid volunteer consultant
A% Contributor in area of your expertise
B% Someone trusted to bounce ideas off of
And I'm assuming X + Y + Z + A + B =100 (unless it's even more complex than you let on). But I couldn't even guess which number has what value.
Come to think of it, if I'm right, your relationship with with Paragon has some parallels to how I interact with AC Comics.... -
I'll definitely contribute to Kickstarter (or similar) for the cause.
-
Yeah, Justice server rocks.
I'm sure all the servers are just fine, in their own way.
But Justice never gave me a reason to ever really try any of those other servers out... that's how great it's been for me on Justice. -
Can't cry now. I'm at work.
After work, I'm sure I'll get misty eyed.
Some of these threads I've read have had me letting out a tear or two the past few hours. -
IF the license on the Cryptic engine was only for 5 years, with no clearly spelled out renewal option in the contract... then someone screwed up monumentally in the contract negotiations.
Also, if that were the case, you would think NCSoft would have seen it coming, and things wouldn't have been as abrupt.
Plus, wasn't Paragon working on another game for NCSoft?
Seems more likely that NCSoft took a financial hit, and as part of their grand restructuring plan to make the bankers happy, they had to show how they were streamlining and refocusing on their core business elements.
I could be wrong, though. Maybe there was a major goof-up. -
Thanks for all you've done to help this game and it's community.
I really want to be more eloquent and specific about how great you are, how wonderful the devs are, and everything... but I really have to investigate this mysterious salt water that keeps showing up on my face. Really distracting when I try to type.
Best regards, and well wishes for the future, good sir, and the same to the whole Paragon team.
