Being a bit a a forum Noob I don't really understand your reference to 'Trolling'

I don't object to paying my subs don't get me wrong but paying for ingame rewards, or a rename function is IMO over the top.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Trolling is a form of forum behaviour that can be loosely defined as "comments made specifically to incite a negative emotional response from others".

And as for paying for 'in-game rewards' what in-game reward are you paying for if you buy a server transfer? Or a character rename? Or, in-fact, a respec? What advantage is your character getting?

And as for pricings: Let's looks at the biggie, shall we? WoW.

£15.00 per character for a server transfer
£6.00 per character for a name change
    £10.00 subscription fee.
  2. I think that the boat that Alphane has missed is this: What, precisely, is the in-game benefit of a respec?

Answer: None. It is the chance to correct a mistake, or rejig your toon. You do NOT gain an advantage from them. In any way. At all.

Purple recipe? Lots of in-game benefit.

    Vet rewards? Depends.

But SO FAR nothing that NC have included in their micro-transactions have offered ANY sort of in-game benefit. And until they DO start offering those, there is nothing to actually complain about.
  3. Empire is right. NC actively sought our thoughts as to what we would be prepared to pay for these things. Everyone had a chance to contribute. We did. They actually undercut the prices that most people were expecting.

It's just the idea of buying a piece of software then being charged to use it's features.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I agree with Slitty. That's REALLY close to trolling.

You see... you bought CoX... and now you pay a fee to use its features... So, enquiring minds will wonder, why the heck are you playing the game if you don't like to pay for it?
  5. Or, perhaps... you could not have made those typos in the first place?
  6. [ QUOTE ]
Hey mate you want to pay cos u typed Standuff instead of Standoff and didn't notice thats up to u mate, I don't and frankly don't want u 2 either.

    [/ QUOTE ]

No need to get personal. And no one here has said that they want to pay. Just that it's good that it's possible.

    [ QUOTE ]
And as the box contains 1 month play plus 12 slots for about a tenner yes I do think their prices are relativly expansive.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Let me see...

To get 12 additional slots on my main account, I need to pay £11.99 twice, plus £5.99 = £29.97.

To get a new secondary account, I have to pay £10.00... and then pay £7.50 a month for 11 months, if I only want it for a year. That's... £92.50. Yes, a clear saving. [/sarcasm]
  7. Ah, thanking you kindly, Standoff. I believe I understand now.

*Ponders this for a few minutes*

Actually, no, I don't see how that works, because surely you'd still be paying for it, which is what H2 seemed so much against? Or was he criticising this move as the same thing?

Meh, we'll never know, and I only care because I'm nosey.

Anyway, not really relevant. I hereby leave this strand of discussion.

As for having the option to buy a respec if you need one, and don't somehow have once kicking around (bear in mind that my main has 2 Earned respecs, 1 Freespec and 3 Vet Reward respecs available to him, and is also the ONLY toon I've had that I've ever actually respecced AT ALL), then this is fantastic.

    Good move, NC!
  8. Firstly: Wasn't me, was Hero 2 - I think he is against this service, because otherwise that remaining part makes no sense otherwise.

Hazarding a rough guess... Hero 2 is aware of an exploit that can be used to earn respec recipes. I could be very wrong.

The Community Team have said, literally dozens of times, that this is NOT going to happen, due to the utter waste of their time it would be for them to have to moderate it.

I only mention this because I think it's wrong to have players paying for this type of thing.

    Why ? Please explain.

  11. You know, GR, I'd just like to say that I read that and I actually sat here in my office and said "Oh, WOW!" Seriously.

That bug has annoyed the heck out of me recently (I wasn't even sure it actually was a bug, rather than a "feature"), and the only way I've been able to stand it is when I and my wife are playing at the same time on the same team, and specifically to avoid being hit by it we would zone at different times.
  12. Shadowe

    Oh wow, cool!

Except for the period when the custom mission content wasn't displaying, due to a bug. If Birdy did it originally during that time, then he wouldn't have seen it, just had trouble moving around due to the invisible objects in the way.
  13. Liz nodded quietly as Eientei spoke, her eyes flashing silver at his last words.

"The jury is unanimous in its verdict on the charges. It is now up to the Judge to decide on Mr Edward Johnsson's fate, considering his past, his actions, and his heroism. May all the gods have mercy on his soul."

Rising from her seat, she smoothly walked to the door of the chamber, and knocked. It was opened by a bailiff, and Liz addressed him, formally. "We have reached a verdict. Please so inform the Clerk of the Court."

She turned back to the others, and smiled, sadly. "We have done our duty. Now we wait and see what happens to the man we have condemned."

    Religeous Origin

There is a world of difference between using an entity from a dead religion (such as those from Norse or Ancient Greece) and using one from a currently extant religion.

There is also a world of difference between creating a character for RP that is linked to a religion, and creating a character for RP that is in a religion.

Open-minded has nothing to do with it - I am open minded regarding other people's religious beliefs. I am willing to accept that my faith may not suit everyone, and that they may choose to believe things that are different to what I believe - I do, however, draw the line at passively accepting someone's blasphemy by claiming to be a connected to my religion when they are not. Just as I would not create a character called "The Prophet Mohammed", out of respect for the beliefs of others, no other reason, I would expect all others to respect MY beliefs and give me the same consideration.
  15. Liz, have you misunderstood the question I asked? Because that link is irrelevant.

I DID read the 'damn posts' - i was giving my Point of view across. and advising on from the original posters link about 8800 gt cards..*sigh*

If you weren't referring to me in particular, maybe you should make that apparant in your post....

    [/ QUOTE ]

WHAT link about 8800 GT cards? My original post didn't mention them. Neither did the link that I included in my original post, other than to say "There's not a problem with them".
  17. Only one I want...

    - log out to character selection screen option.

Well, plus most things other people have suggested, particularly better search options.

    Maybe I make a Gabriel

    [/ QUOTE ]

And get genericed so fast that you'll barely be able to say "I am the servant of the Lord, your God."

While I have no personal problem with people (particularly RPers) choosing to create characters who are angels, or demons, or whatever, the instant anyone steps across the line into personages from established religions, that is going too far.

I may not have the right to do so, but I can assure you that if someone created 'The Angel Gabriel' as a character, my keyboard would probably break from the speed of the petition and my anger. Just as I would for 'Archangel Michael' or 'Christ Almighty' or anyone else that was attempting to make a mockery of my beliefs.

And THIS, ladies and gentlemen, is why I try very, very hard to politely suggest that discussing religion on these boards is a bad idea. People get very touchy about it. Including me.
  20. Defender Militia Induction.

"Right, you maggots! Or leeches, or n00bs, or whatever your teammates will undoubtedly call you. You are a Defender. Your job is to protect your team. There are a LOT of ways you do this. You might use Radiation or Dark energy to reduce the accuracy and effectiveness of the enemy's attacks. You might use energy shields to protect your allies, with much the same result. There are lots of ways you help your allies, and they are ALL effective! In fact, the least effective is probably the one job you will be called upon to do more than any other. When a team calls for a Healz0r. You are not a healer. Even those of you who have chosen the path of the Empath - you are NOT a healer! Your job is to improve your allies and reduce the effect of being hit. That's what a Defender DOES! Healing is the Defender's LAST RESORT. If you need to heal, you're not doing your job the way your job should be done! DO NOT STAND FOR THE TRAVESTY THAT CALLS FOR HEALZ0RS! Why? Because you have a LOT more tricks up your sleeve than repairing damage your team has taken! STOP IT HAPPENING IN THE FIRST PLACE, and they will NEVER need a 'healz0r'! THAT is your job. THAT is your raison d'etre. DEFEND your team. Don't heal them."
  21. All I can say to that is: What lag?

Even on DXP weekend, all I got was a longer wait for mission loading, easily explained by the mapserver being ridiculously busy. I didn't get any lag beyond that which I usually get rubberbanding once after coming out of a train.
  22. Yep.

Basically, what's happening is that the game looks at your defense [sic on all uses] scores as applicable to the power being used against you, and picks the highest one.

So, Wickle Wikti Monkey Psi Bolts you while you have Elusive Mind up. The game pings your character database and sees (for example - I don't have the actual numbers to work with) Ranged Defense: 7% and Psi Defense: 25%. The attack probability then degrades by 25% (the higher of 25% and 7%), which means you get hit a LOT less than if you didn't have Elusive Mind up, because your default ranged defense is only 7%. While that 7% would be enough to degrade the hit chance of (almost?) all incoming ranged attacks, you wouldn't notice the difference because (almost?) all ranged attacks are getting the same treatment.
  23. ((That's six out of eleven jurors who were present. I may get in trouble for this, but I'm going to take Pix's part - she can yell at me when I get home))

Pix shifted in her seat, brushing a hand across her forehead, absently missing the presence of her comfortable beret, as she weighed the words of the attourneys, struggling with her conscience. It was unlikely that Edward Johnsson had intended to kill anyone, but there was little doubt in her mind that he had gone too far. But did she believe that he was actually guilty of Second Degree Murder? After all, her years of experience in the slums and byways of Paragon City had proven that Freakshow could survive insane quantities of harm, while serving up some serious pain at the same time. The Freak might have survived, normally. But he hadn't. He'd died of his wounds. Nothing could change that, and while she was desperate to believe the death had been 'suicide' - after all, juicing yourself up on drugs, and getting cybernetic implants just so you could cause trouble was a pretty damn good way to attract the negative attentions of the City's myriad heroes - she also knew that if it had been her, he would probably have survived for long enough to get Zig-tagged. Or her employer. Or any of the other dozen or so heroes she dealt with on an almost daily basis. The Freak shouldn't have died.

Clearing her throat, she looked around. "Murder One: Not guilty. Second degree Murder: Guilty. Aggravated Assault: Guilty. The 'crime' of looking to be broken out of jail isn't something he's being tried for, so we can't judge him for it. He didn't go in there looking to kill anyone, but he did. It was a heat of the moment thing, not something planned. The message we send out here today is the message we will be sending to all other heroes in the city - stay in control."
