Damage Types - Ranged & Psionic
Most attacks are flagged as having both a damage type (e.g. psionic) and a position (melee/range/aoe). Which ever defense is highest is used.
However there are a few psionic attacks that aren't flagged as melee/range/aoe. In this case your ranged defense will be ineffective against that attack.
However, I believe Psionic Dart is not one of the exceptions, your ranged defence will work against it.
I really should do something about this signature.
Cool, cause I was in a duel with a night widow, who was bragging that his elude would make it impossible for me to hit him.
Yet every single one of my Psionic Fortunata attacks hit him.
He died fairly quickly, or retreated, only to die while running. Lol.
Im guessing that elude protects against ranged, and melee, but might not protect against psionics.
It makes sense I guess, after all, how do you dodge a 'thought based projectile that is homing in on your brain'.

Elude is indeed just melee/ranged/aoe defence.
However, the only Fortunata attacks that will bypass this are Dominate and Total Domination.
However, in PvP they say LOL-Defence, bcause it is easy to overcome with to-hit buffs like Aim, Mind link and CT: Offensive.

Although, i noticed that that elusive mind accoladge makes it really hard for psionic powers to land. Ranged / Psionic as well.

Not entirely sure, but I suspect that Elusive Mind only provides defence against Psi attacks (otherwise it would be providing an advantage against ALL ranged attacks, when it's only meant to help against Psi).

Yeah, thats what I meant, I know elusive mind only provides defense against Psi, but at the same time, I went to Perigrine Island, to the monkey Island, and I touched down, and turned on Elusive mind, and practically none of their Psionic Blasts hit me. Without Elusive Mind, they were very accurate.
It came out wrong the way I said it yesterday.
What I meant was 'Psionic Blast is both Psi and Ranged'
I guess the Psionic Defense is enough to protect against it, regardless of a 'ranged' attack type being on the power.

Basically, what's happening is that the game looks at your defense [sic on all uses] scores as applicable to the power being used against you, and picks the highest one.
So, Wickle Wikti Monkey Psi Bolts you while you have Elusive Mind up. The game pings your character database and sees (for example - I don't have the actual numbers to work with) Ranged Defense: 7% and Psi Defense: 25%. The attack probability then degrades by 25% (the higher of 25% and 7%), which means you get hit a LOT less than if you didn't have Elusive Mind up, because your default ranged defense is only 7%. While that 7% would be enough to degrade the hit chance of (almost?) all incoming ranged attacks, you wouldn't notice the difference because (almost?) all ranged attacks are getting the same treatment.

If an attack is ranged, and Psionic, does it get protected defense wise by something that protects against one?
Eg - I notice that Foresight gives protection (defense) against Ranged, Aoe, and Melee.
But I also notice that Psionic Defense is a separate beast on its own. Would this defense number come into effect against a psionic dart, the same way it would against a lightning bolt?
Just wondering if Melee, aoe, and ranged are the main 3 attack groups, and then psionic would be a sub group of those 3?
Does Foresight's defense bonus protect against psionic darts, since these too are ranged attacks.
