Oh wow, cool!

I'm posting this while doing the mission in Mother Mayhem's asylum on A Hero's Hero.
I remember doing this a year or so ago. It was a boring office, like all the others.
Now it looks like something out of Gothika or a slasher flick. Awesome! So glad I came back.

Pretty sure that's always been a wrecked hospital type of map.
It's been a creepy old hospital for as long as I've been playing, I'm sure...

Except for the period when the custom mission content wasn't displaying, due to a bug. If Birdy did it originally during that time, then he wouldn't have seen it, just had trouble moving around due to the invisible objects in the way.

Yeah, I still need to re-do the "Freak Olympics" arc, to see all that lovely scenery they were all floating on

Kerensky: this has nothing to do with underwear
Zwillinger: I put on my robe and wizard hat...
Synapse: I had to resist starting my last post off with "Yo dawg!"
I had to drop that mish because 1 mob was behind a wall (I could hear him/her punching his/her palm), it was one of thos small rectangular rooms you get on the corner of coridors in the office maps, only here it had an extra 2 walls cutting away 1 corner of the room (still looked like the original rectangle on the map), could target it, PBAoE couldnt hit it, and I didnt want to do the whole map again incase the same thing happened...
But yeah, cool hospitalesque map otherwise
I think an expansion to the "traditional" tilesets would be nice. Not new tilesets but rather adding a boiler room possibility to the office building with a stairs down to it , or a lift gear room at the top, perhaps an empty lift shaft for people to fall down (hand in hand with this would be an option to physically interact with allies (ie: push) )
etc.
warehouses could have machinery hangars (half built airplanes, or a maze of stacking crates like the end of raiders of the lost ark ).
add to that the possibility of features such as frostfire's ice lair and things could be good.
I was sorting ALL my screenshots last week which covered EU beta to present day and came across a few pics set ina hospital and I couldn't for the life of me remember where they came from and then forgot about it. Now I remember so er....thanks =)

Yea i love these special maps. I really wish they'd give us more of those missions.

Well, if they've started adding cutscenes to older missions, perhaps with the larger dev team now they might also add a few more special maps to some of them too?

and then talkie cutscenes...whoooooooooo, least then people wouldn't have to hear me do silly voices whenever there's one

This, even if it's just as far as some new 'props'.
I think that two really good examples of 'dressing up' a standard map are the Asylum as mentioned by the OP and the PST Mish in the RWZ arc. Both of these I absolutely love because it shows that the addition of just a few props make a huge difference to the standard map.

I think it's a pity they don't use that special Red Cap map for all the Red Cap lairs in Croatoa.
And, of course, Nemesis needs his own set of maps

I agree that a few more thematic maps would make the missions look much more realistic. An early taste is given with the skulls mission usually around lvl 3 or 4 and then there's nothing for ages. A few more would be nice.
The clockwork king map on synapse TF is also very well done map.

We definitely need more/expanded tilesets for door missions - arguably that would be a more welcome addition to the game for veteran players than almost anything else.
I'm always somewhat sad when Mu ancient ruins use Oranbega tilesets (the Devs could have at least re-skinned them to look different). The lab map could do with several re-skins too - we already have a barely-different portal corp one and various ones for ruined labs, but Crey and Longbow should have different style textures on their lab maps, and Nemesis too (they need their own tileset tbh).
In fact, outside of the new I12 stuff, the only indoor tileset piece I recall seeing in the past 3 months play, that I personally had never seen before, was on Mako's patron arc. Entering the door of one of the tiny crypts in Potter's Field in Sharkhead, the entry room for the map (which was basically a standard cave map, mostly) was actually the inside of the crypt, but with a hole through the sarcophagus coffin that you could drop through to reach the normal cave map beneath. When you dropped down it even had a couple of smashed coffins, bones and tree roots poking through from above. I was very impressed, even though it was just a very small entry area, because the insides of maps don't often match so closely with the location of the mission door on the outside.
Just tiny additions like that would make a difference for me.

If you use an image browser like Picasa then the map name is in the IPTC Keywords of the image (along with the x,y,z coordinates) and it turns out that map is tagged "coh:zone=MOTHER_MAYHEM_HOSPITAL"
I have some 3000+ screenshots from my 33mth CoH career and they are nicely searchable in Picasa by zone name or character name, entirely from the metadata stored in the image.
I'm pretty sure the game didn't add metadata to screenies in the old days though. Can't remember when the feature was added, but it was after I started playing.
Is there a list anywhere with these sorts of arcs. I know the Freak Olympics is great and I remember the Final encounter with Dr. Vahzilock being special. There should be a list of the unique must do story arcs by level.

It didn't. My oldest screenshot is from January 2005 and it contains more or less no metadata. They seem to have started adding it in August or September of that year. The last file I have without it is dated 25/8, the first one with it is 12/9.
It's pretty cool data, actually. The Caption field actually contains all the character names who appear in the shot.

I didn't know that, it made me go back and check
I think it's actually the names of the team members at the time, rather than anyone in the screenshot. I have some crowd shots with just my name in the caption but some of just me with several names who I assume were my teammates at that moment. Very, very cool.
I think, yes, it's your team at the time of the shot. I'm not totally sure because I have some shots with multiple names where I wouldn't have been teaming (normally anyway, maybe I was for some reason).

Yes there are some really good maps, maybe a little scarce that when we actually do them we appreciate it more. Would be great to have a few more or some with random graffiti on. Funny if you went into a old office and there's a 'Bridger Woz Ere' spray painted on the wall or 'Lord Recluse Loves Miss Liberty Forever'. Not true but might be funny , though the rate people tear through maps these days they probably wouldn't notice.
