  1. OK guys, I reworked the tank thanks to all the comments from everyone. I used Dechs build as a template and came up with this.

It's not as trollerish as I started with, but it looks like a strong tank anyway. I'll still have OG and weaken for some troller nature, just not a huge amount anymore.

Seriously, that one IO will solve every endurance problem DA ever could have. It can turn Dark Regeneration into an endurance RECOVERY tool.
So, are you suggesting there might be a proc from Theft of Essence that might be of assistance here?

    There! Are you happy now?!?!?!?!?!

Thx bud. I didn't see that one.

The build you posted sacrifices a ton to be more troller than usual, and doesn't pick up near enough value to my mind to make those sacrifices worth while, and not for lack of Inf, either. Even with several purple sets, and a couple of the expensive ones, I still don't think the end result produces enough. I'd agree with the previous posters and say that dumping Presence and focusing more on traditional tanking build would be best in this case, or using a different set as a secondary.

A pity, too, because I'd embrace any good use for the Presence set.
Yeah, I've looked at Presence several times over the years looking for a way to use it effectively.

And since you guys seem to be thinking a traditional tank build would be better, here's what I have for that.

  4. BTW, does anyone know the numbers for weaken and is it different for tanks as opposed to scrappers?

And just a sorta aside... I've debated this idea of a tanktroller as well, but was thinking of Dark/Stone (along taking the presence pool as you do) to get both stacking fears and stacking disorients and the soft controls of the knockdown... Oh yeah and the hold in Seismic Smash... Just food for thought
Dark/stone sounds good but if I was making one of those, i would just concentrate on disorient. You can get recharges going very high on that. Presence line has huuuuge recharge and end requirements... Sounds like that might work better but my guy is currently level 33. I just was working on mids and thought this idea might be a decent one.

Stacking two fears on a lt likely wont last long given CoF's longer tick period.

The fighting pool will help you more.
That's the crux of it all really. I was working from the presumption that you could stack CoF and Invoke Panic to allow for fears of up to boss level. According to mids, I could keep a group feared for up to 20 seconds. The radius of 8 on CoF also made me wonder if it was effective enough for group control outside of herding.
I took OG for the times when the fears aren't covering the whole mob group.

And yeah, I worked up a fighting pool version who gives much better personal protection but wondered about the end usage.

I did forget to use the steadfast for it though so defensive numbers will be slightly higher.
  7. Hey guys, I'm making a Dark/DB tank and was wondering if the concept of a tanktroller would be possible (I know Dark/Ice would be better for that). I can easily see being able to do this during normal gameplay, the question is will this kind of build be ok for the TF/AV tanking roles for large groups that will be expected of a decent tank?

Any opinions or improvements to this build would be appreciated.

I just checked and it seems that shrieks will not stack with themselves, it seems to refresh the duration.
  9. Shadey_NA

    Dark/DP

How useful do you find softcapping S/L/E/N? With all the -to hit and control that dark maisma brings, I figured it wouldn't be as important.

Do you have any experience with procs on fluffy?
  10. Shadey_NA

    Dark/DP

Oooo. Did not know that. but what do i do with mah travel HamiOs now?
  11. Shadey_NA

    AT Comparison

    Scientist,
Personally, I've found that a Dark/Dark fender is a good pocket tank in its own right. If there's not a decent tank on the team, a dark/dark will do very nicely for most play.

    Splat,
I would say of your fender choices it would be about the feel you want for your play. If you want as tankerish as you wanna be feel, go with the Dark/Dark. If you want a tank mage feel (not quite enough damage) go for the Dark/Sonic. If you want a buff/debuff/blast feel, then its on to Rad/Sonic. All of the choices are good though.
As for Ill/Rad, yes it's as good as everyone says.
  12. Shadey_NA

    Sonic/Energy IOs

You will find that Liquefy never seems to recharge quick enough... well, it never does for me anyway. That would be the only real reason for big recharges other than your attack chain.
Come to think of it you might want to invest in hover for that reason alone. You don't want to be kbing out of liquefy.
  13. Shadey_NA

    Dark/DP

I am back after about a year or so out of the game and decided to make a new fender to mark the occassion. I went with a Dark/DP build and wanted to get the forum experts opinion on a few choices I'm thinking about for this char. This is a PVE build made for light farming without giving up too much in the team environment (TFs and the like).

The questions are concerning procs and fluffy. I have a cloud senses proc planned for him right now and a touch of nictus proc too. Will the cloud senses proc fire off? Is it bound by the 10 second rule?
Also, I'm sure you will notice I have no kb prot in him right now as I felt the defense plus the debuffs and hover would give me "good enough" protection.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

  14. You guys are awesome. I leave the game for the better part of a year, come back and you all are still crunching numbers.

Garent and all involved in number crunching on the fender side of the world, thx for doing this. The section considering -regen vs. -resist gives me a much clearer understanding of why my sonic/sonic is so good on AV teams. I've played many defenders in this game, but that one is special for the tough fights (yeah, teaming mostly).

Is there a Doctoral Thesis in all this number crunching? If so, can I get a copy? I'll give you 14 infl...
  15. Yep, DF is what I meant. Gremlins in mah brainz again.

Didn't know they fixed the aggro issue though. I found placing it on the second in melee fixed it for me and i've never checked.
  16. I love this thread. Glad to see some love for the set in the forums.

I was one of the first sonic/sonic fenders on infinity (not counting all you Pleveled, never played it types) and I've been singing it's praises every since a full team frostfire mish to be exact.

If you have any questions about making your sonic/sonic, all you need to do is wait till level 4. With your 2 friends on the team, just take out one group while using your sonic debuffs and then take out a second group without using them. You will see that your group kills at least twice as fast (corrupter version debuffing is less effective than defender, sorry). You will be a believer before level 10 and you will never look back.

Note though that Sonic Dispersion will give you headaches (not real ones) as it's a serious aggro magnet for you. I personally place it on the second melee char into a group and that helps a lot. The only other advice is you will love/hate liquefy as it's an awesome power that takes years to recharge and you want to use it every group.
  17. I was just playing with a crab build and came up with 8 aoe damage powers. For all you uber farmers out there. Is there such a thing as too many aoe powers? Is there any real point for this kind of a build?

    Nice idea on the pet.

What I love best about my sonic/sonic is the simple phrase that happens after almost every TF he goes on. "That went smoother than I thought".

I've personally taken it upon myself to educate the masses when I go on a TF. I usually make a fan when it comes to an AV and they see what benefit having a sonic/sonic can add as the AV melts much faster than they thought it would or could.

Team char? definitely advantages that way, but i have no real issues solo either. Course I'm not farming with him.
  19. Shadey_NA

    Electric Melee

While not being perfect I would think Elec/ would be a nice pairing due to the end draining capabilities it has that could be leveraged while herding.

I'll tell you more about that as I level mine up.
  20. Shadey_NA

    FF/Dark solo?

    The Tankfender lives again?

Assuming the even level AV, a sonic/sonic can comfortably add 21% (12% comming from the sonic blast set) -resist to the battle. Even without a -regen component that is a highly valuable addition to the challenge.

It would be important to note if anyone is discussing "Best TF Defender" that they include whatever the secondary blasts can do.

Personally, i think the primary combo for this would be a Cold/Sonic. The -resist for it would be at 16.5%. Add to that the -recharge numbers adding up, the insanity that is Benumb, the -defense, the added endo and even the added defense for your team and it sounds good to me...

    Damn altitus. Gotta go.
  22. for PVE: Scrapper MAs get Dragon's Tail. It could be argued to be better than the Foot Stomp from SS even with a smaller radius.
This is one thing that DM cannot duplicate.
  23. I feel another alt commin on.
  24. Anyone have the numbers for chem rounds? How much do they cut incomming damage?
  25. One of the nice things about the combo you've chosen is the possibility of nerfing the damage for you and your team by a considerable amount if you take swap ammo (using chem rounds I believe) and your Fulcrum Shift and Siphon Power.

Personally, the worst part of that combo is remembering to pack all of the Break Frees you will need. Lots of fenders have to use those, but I suspect you will become an addict.
