hey all,

do you thing I can transform my lvl 50 FF/Dark support def into a "good solo character"?

the more I think about it, the less I believe in it

Depends on what you want to solo. Will you be as good as say a rad/sonic? Nope. But can you solo tip missions? Sure. Quite safely in fact. Set up a build to slot damage into dark blast, If you are going to do a solo build you can drop the buffs for other players and just go with dispersion, hover or combat jumping (preferably hover imo) tough/weave, manuevers. slot for ranged defense and hover blast with dark blast. You wont kill quickly, however between the defense and the -acc you are going to be very very safe. Maybe turn off bosses tho. Since they will take you a while solo.

You may want to load up on -1 type of missions, but with bigger mobs since you won't kill fast, but you have two credible AoEs.

As someone who's had a Force Field / Dark Blast Defender as his main character for the past year and a half...

No.

Frak no.

Don't even think about soloing on him. It's simply not fun, and you'll pull your hair out.

Yes. Sort of. You'll never be a farmer but if you enjoy the character you should be able to work yourself to the point where you are absolutely unkillable, and able to take down enemies at a decent, if not incredible, rate. You will still be a lowish damage character, but you should be able to solo Hero missions and that kind of thing easily.

I would recommend turning Villain. As a Force Fielder, and a Dark Blast one specifically, you specialize in making sure people never die. Ever. So one approach I'd prescribe is picking up a PPP pet.

From there, depending on how go about things, you'll probably be either be in a damage crunch or an endurance crunch. I assumed a damage crunch. This makes the major option Soul Mastery to get Power Boost and Soul Drain; that option has no +Recovery but has advantages of its own, especially in kill speed. Mu Mastery is the other major option, but other than an excellent endurance tool, it lacks the same damage and utility overall.

I added Provoke [EDIT: Later took it out to replace it with Vengeance for an extra LotG slot] to the mix more because I think it's hilarious than because its practical. But it could be useful to pull enemies off your pet. And the fact is, except for lacking defense debuff resistance, you are extremely survivable, especially if you use Life Drain as part of your attack chain. And with the unkillable pet, plus your added damage powers, you should be able to work enemies down at a reliable, but not amazing, rate that should at least make soloing actual content, as opposed to farming, very easy.

Soft-capped to ranged defense, and with 12 points of knockback protection to deal with Hamidon and those pesky Rikti pylons.

With Issue 19, I was able to work in Vengeance, Hasten, and Super Speed. I currently have the Spiritual Radial Boost slotted for the extra recharge and healing (with Life Drain).

I soloed the first 32 levels on this toon at -1x1, and hated it. I forced myself through it, 'cause I needed a bubbler for Rikti mothership raids. Since then, the Vigilance solo boost came with Issue 17, so it'd be a bit easier now, but not by much. I recently soloed a tip mission at 0x3, and while doable and very safe, it was extremely slow. I really would not recommend soloing on this toon, as Force Field / Dark Blast is meant to be team support, which it's great at. But for solo, just about anything else would be better.

If both are a problem, it can be solved with electricity mastery. Electric fence is an excellent third attack and power sink is infinite endurance in power form.

I had a similar issue, I think, building a Dark/Pain corruptor for solo play. She teams fine but solo she was too squishy and low damage to kill at a reasonable speed.

The secret was to ignore the guides about which were good powers and take ALL the powers in Dark Blast. Even powers that you are told universally to skip like Dark Pit and Torrent make a noticeable increase in survivability and kill speed. I think I skipped only Moonbeam (the snipe) and Blackstar (the nuke). Every other attack is useful and helps fill in your attack chain, does damage and provides some form of mitigation. Take 'em, slot 'em and use 'em. Don't forget to add one Stun IO to Dark Pit and one or two Heal IO to Life Drain, it helps.

I haven't played much with this on my Bots/FF, but I also have a build with all the FF powers you get told to skip. Detention Field is actually kinda fun solo and will take one enemy out of a fight. Repulsion Field is still kind of iffy but Repulsion Bomb looks like it might also provide some more mitigation for you. Force Bubble of course provides mitigation against most melee attacks solo which is very nice since melee often does the most damage. Most enemies aren't resistant to both Repel and Knockback so having both Repulsion Field and Force Bubble will give you two choices for melee mitigation.

Basically I'm recommending here that you take a bunch of powers you probably don't have and use 'em. They probably won't work well at first but after a while you learn what works well and when. Take your time and learn when to use these powers.

With inherent Stamina you can now take a lot more powers. Don't be afraid to try weird stuff out. At worse you blow a respec and have to redo it. At best you find something that works for you, even if some guide writer didn't like it. It's all about fun and doing stuff that no one has thought of is kinda fun for me. Good luck.
