Agreed.
Quote:Get the Tier 4 Ageless Core Epiphany (+End, +Recovery, +Recharge Rate). It lasts for 120 seconds and you can recast it as soon at its over. This should solve endurance problems so you can get the spiritual alpha for more recharge. If you really want to have the best farming build, you should have 2 builds on your brute, one for farming, the other for TFs, trials, etc.

I actually waste 30 seconds just running in and destroying the 2 objects so if you want to count from my first AOE attack its like 4:30 :P
Soft capped fire defense with vengeance, and since I'm always farming lowbies, it's always up. With no need to use purples or blues, so I can take a full tray of reds and stay between 400-500%+ damage the entire farm. Recharge is at 202% before the FF proc in footstomp. Near gapless AoE chain of BL-FS-Burn-Fences. I don't have time to use any ST attacks.

If your toon is optimized to solo an ITF, then it isn't optimized to run a fire farm. I'm not saying you can't do both well, it's just that a character built with a fire farm in mind will farm it faster and more safely than one that isn't. A jack of all trades build is fine, and I totally understand the merit of wanting to do it all with one character. That's where multiple builds come into play IMO. I don't have such devotion to any one of my characters, so I don't mind having toons that are built for different things.
For farming a fire map, I would not use that build you posted. For regular content, it's a pretty normal setup. I would probably change a couple things around, but then again I'm not a huge fan of FA for normal content. Mine is strictly farming only. -
I believe the best DPS chain for KM is just using the first 3 KM attacks, along with CS. Because of the way power siphon works, you get much more damage out of using the in set attacks to stack the PS buffs. Someone ripped into it with numbers once upon a time, I wish I could find the thread. I think with a nice chunk of recharge, you can run BB>SB>CS>BB>SB>QS forever and that stacks PS buffs like crazy.
Recharge is your biggest priority depending on what you go with for a secondary. It should go perfectly with /fire, as that is also a recharge hungry set. More recharge = more Power Siphon, Concentrated Strike, Healing Flames, and burn. It will also allow you to chain your attacks together without gaps.
I actually LOVE super strength. Honestly, probably my favorite melee set in the game. Decent single target damage and arguably the best PBAoE in the game. You don't really have to go out of your way for accuracy bonuses either, since rage has a nice to hit chunk. The disadvantages of SS are the rage crash and endurance. If you were to go SS/Elec, I would imagine very little in the way of endurance problems once you get power sink. I think KM/Fire and SS/Elec are both fun combinations, I don't think you'd be wrong to go either way. Both sets benefit from lots of recharge as well as smashing/lethal defense. -
I'm pretty sure the proc has a chance to go off for each guy hit by the attack. It's one of the better melee powers to slot it in, right behind footstomp.
-
I wanted to make an all around good melee character that plays well in all situations. My goals were defense soft cap, high HP, good AoE, good single target, and lots of endurance. I don't mind if I don't have the best AoE, or the best single target damage, but I wanted to not be gimped in either area. So I decided that an Super Strength/Shield brute would probably fit my goal best.
First off, I will be going with the Spiritual Alpha and Ageless destiny. I know from prior experience that SS+Hasten is an end draining vortex from hell. The recharge buff is icing on the cake. I'll be taking aid self for a heal, I don't plan on getting hit often and I don't mind running away to heal uninterrupted if I have to. Soul Mastery looks like the best all around Epic/Patron pool for my goals; Gloom for single target DPS, Dark Obliteration is a decent enough AoE, and Darkest Night looks perfect for AVs/Incarnate content for the -damage and to make up for the sub incarnate defense cap.
Now that my goals are stated, I'll present a build a I have worked on so far. I don't quite feel satisfied, and I feel like I might be able to make some improvements in places. My first goal was to be defense soft capped, followed by getting as much recharge as possible. Hit points were also a concern, so I tried to grab that as much as possible. With rage up, I'm way over the accuracy cap on +4s, but I didn't particularly shoot for +accuracy. I suppose it will work out well if I get debuffed or face opponents with extra defense. I know I could get a little more defense from maneuvers if I dropped CJ, but I LOVE the maneuverability (irony) that CJ offers. So far I have avoided using purple sets, since I don't farm a ton. Thanks for any tips you guys can give.

I'm not sure whether I enjoy or regret it every time I come to this thread.

This. Why smashing/lethal defense for a fire farm?
-
Quote:Might I also recommend the Mocking Beratement taunt set for brute attacks if you're using them as mules on a fire farm toon. You get some +total end, the same recharge as kinetic crash, and a nice chunk of fire defense as well. It also has some smash/lethal defense, although not as useful in a fire farm. If you don't farm fire maps, then ignore thisWell not really, I put a set in Punch in my agricultural Brute (I said I'm going for a cheapo permahasten just to farm) and I paid like 555-50k per recipe.
-
I roll 35-39 bronze and silvers depending on my mood. Kinetic Combats, Obliterates, Luck of the Gamblers, some Numina's. Sometimes I rock sub 30 bronze for the procs.
-
-
It's a newer set, and there aren't a lot of dedicated melee guides that are up to date anyway. It's honestly pretty hard to go wrong with any combination of brutes or scrappers.
KM can put out some pretty decent single target DPS, if you can handle how power siphon works. I like the set better on scrappers, because concentrated strike has a chance to refresh power siphon when it crits. It's lacking in a bit in the AoE department: Burst is okay but I hate torrent. It also has a ranged attack, which is nice for runners but really isn't that great of DPS. The first three attacks in the set are your bread and butter, and concentrated strike is great just for the change to refresh power siphon, on scrappers.
All of the attacks in the set have some great secondary effects like -damage, knockdown, and stun. The set also does a bit of energy damage which can be nice against targets who resist smashing. -
Best thing to do on any forum anywhere when you make an honest, silly mistake is to just go "oh yeah, derp. i wasn't thinking straight" and then move on. Not get mad back at people poking a little fun for your mistake; it's not like they meant any serious harm or anything.

Rage crash is a good time to pop insps, and ageless destiny = infinite endurance.
That's the beauty of SS/Fire, it's very easy to fill in it's weaknesses while it has strengths nothing else can make up for, although some come close. That being said, anything/fire brute will be a beastly farmer because of the points already made. Having a primary with another AoE is just icing on the cake. The best thing you can do while farming is playing what you like, since you'll be doing it a lot you might as well have fun.
Also, this thread title is misleading. I thought fire farms were getting killed. -
-
Saying Footstomp is the best AoE is kind of more of an opinion than fact.
Spin does more damage per use, and is up more often. However, the damage is lethal which is arguably the worst damage to have in the game. I haven't taken a lethal damage toon through the incarnate trials yet, but A LOT of those robot/mech guys look like they would resist lethal damage.
Footstomp is a bit slower, does a little less damage, but the AoE has twice the radius which makes it so you can hit more targets usually. The knockdown is decent mitigation as well. Footstomp also functions as a mule for the FF +recharge proc. -
-
According to Mids, Cloaking Device has a 3.75% defense buff all the time as well as a 3.75% defense buff that is suppressed when you are attacked or when you click a glowie.
-
I REALLY want Ice Armor for scrappers. Now that they have proliferated it to stalkers, it shouldn't be that hard to get one for scrappers. No longer have to worry about the double hibernate thing.
That being said, I also wouldn't mind Super Strength for scrappers either -
You're right, perhaps I did get a little snippy there. I knew elec, like a lot of resist based sets, can increase their survivability quite a bit with defense sets, but it has been a while since I've actually played an electric armor character. I also let the memories of my terrible time leveling as an elec cloud how well it could perform with set IOs.
I actually rolled a KM/ElA last night, and plan on giving that a go so I can see what electric armor is like with a good build. I made a build this morning that should be able to run KMs chain with soft capped S/L defense using the spiritual T4 alpha. I'll see how it holds up compared to WP, and hopefully have some fun in the process. -
Well if you're that confident, then I will have to take your word for it. But can you honestly say it's superior to WP in every situation.?
And you're right. That would take a ton of recharge for that chain. I can see why most people don't even bother
That being said, I'm very tempted to try out elec armor again. -
There are other damage types than just S/L ...
I was also under the impression, that the best DB attack chain was BF -> Attack Vitals. I could have been mistaken, as I've never taken mine up against a pylon so I'd leave that to those more knowledgeable. I suppose there could be a better one with retarded amounts of recharge. As far as I know, most people shoot for the BF -> AV chain.
You're taking an example of a specific situation (Pylons), something few people in the game really care about. Go against enemies with a lot of fire or negative damage, like CoT, and Elec armor doesn't look so hot then. What about confuse and fear? I suppose break frees work, although it wouldn't be fair to use inspirations at this point.
If you're comparing enemies that just do smashing and lethal, I say WP wins out because of similar defense and resist, but with much more HP and a more Regen. Energy damage, Elec might have the lead but it's hard to say because the WP will be defense soft capped against it. Against all other enemies WP generally win defensively since it can combine soft capped defenses with high HP and regen, where elec will have to take it in the face and hope it lives long enough for energize to pop back up. Not to mention that WP has superior mez protection.
I won't argue that Elec Armor has more offensive potential, I just don't see how it can be called more survivable. If you're fighting rikti, yeah, maybe it is. But like I said, you can't really compare a s/l soft capped resistance set vs. a high HP, high regen, nearly the same s/l resist, everything but psi soft capped set. Elec is probably better at specific things, which I stated before, but WP is really good at everything.
Honestly, I'm just playing devil's advocate a bit here. I know WP has it's own weaknesses. If you take a few large hits in a row, no amount of regen is going to save you. You aren't going to be soloing any AV's, and you aren't going to be doing uber pylon DPS. Having around 2400 health means you will have to get hit by two 1200 damage attacls in a row, or three 800 damage attacks. Most attacks that do that damage are smashing/lethal, which WP will cut in half. More often than not, you will not get hit by such attacks back to back, which will give you time to regen. However, defense is a tricky thing and there are times will you will get smacked down due to the lack of non s/l resists. I'm not going to say WP is the best set ever, I don't even think it is. I'm just saying that I wouldn't come out and say Elec is straight up more survivable than WP all the time, because that is simply untrue.
I'm not going to lie, I'm very tempted to go roll a DB/Elec now to see how much damage it can put out -
Comparing WP to Elec defensively is like comparing apples to oranges. Saying that Elec will perform just as well defensively at high levels is overstating elec's defensive capabilities a little. WP has almost as much smash/lethal resistance as Elec, so that's a moot point.
Either one will be better in different scenario's, and in my opinion willpower complements dual blades better due to being able to slot minimal recharge bonuses, allowing you to focus on sets in order to get defense and HP capped, as well as tons of HP. I'd like to see a defense capped elec armor scrapper that doesn't totally gimp itself in other areas in order to achieve it.
That being said, resistance based sets are pretty good right now on teams. There are a lot of people packing barriers for the defense, and also bubbles are AoE now so you'll be getting some defense from that.
Elec also has another defensive capability with endurance drains, and some offense with it's damage aura. I'm not saying elec is a bad set by any means, I just don't think it's more survivable that WP unless you focus on a situation that favors it. -
I've decided to make a dual blade scrapper after ignoring the set for a few years. I've been looking around, and I've stolen a few ideas here and there from various builds I've seen.
The build below has blinding feint hit capped at +3s, and all other attacks with the BF buff are hit capped against +3s. Fighting +4s, I'd have to to turn on tactics to be hit capped.
I tried to get my defense as high as I could, while still maintaining enough recharge where I should be able to use the BF -> Attack Vitals combo going nonstop. I also don't want to neglect the powers involved in the sweep combo since it's pretty useful for AoE purposes.
The build is about 75 HP away from being HP capped with accolades, and has decent regen. I may have went a little overkill on the endurance recovery, but at 39 with stamina and qr I can eat through an end bar really fast. Also, all of the other epic pools have abilities that cause redraw, which I hate.
I plan on going for the Rebirth destiny slot, for the self heal and +regen for when situations get hairy. The alpha slot will be musculature 45% damage.
What I'd like is a fresh set of eyes who can glance over, and maybe move some stuff around or find some set bonuses I may have overlooked. Thanks for any advice

True enough I suppose, haha. I'd rather slot out another toon than dump purples into a build, but that's probably because I still have yet to find a cure for my altitis. So many toons, so little time / influence.

It's way more expensive to get perma hasten as well as your uber dark melee attack chain with shields. I believe it's almost impossible to get the attack chain and capped defenses in shields without using purple sets.
On some of the new trials, during the AV fights, I feel kind of sad on my shield scrapper because I dumped so much money into him and he never has more than one stack of AAO because judgement nukes murder everything around them
That said, /shields knows how to clear some trash mobs.
Also, I just noticed your build does not have a travel power for the DM/SRI like super speed so I can ghost certain missions.
