Help with DM/SR

Hello, have a couple questions about SR. Just re-rolled my main as a DM/SR scrapper and I'm not sure what to slot for since SR hits the softcap so easily. I'm pretty new to set bonus builds and what's good and what's not... but is there anyone that can give me some pointers about that or what would maybe be better then SR or what his build would look like "IO'd" out at lvl 50? I have a couple billion to spend once I get a new toon up there and would like a build that has no purples/PvP IO's. I'm planning on badgehunting with him and exemplaring down on occasion - lots of TF's. The help would be much appreciated! Thank you so much guys, I would really appreciate some feedback since I'm sort of a noob!

Here's a rough build I made about an hour ago just hitting soft cap...

Well the first problem with this build is you have way to many gota sets slotted, 7 stacks of 4, and 2 more of 2.. you only get the set bonuses for the first 5 sets. Honestly you would be much better off replacing 5 of those sets with Luck of the gambler including the 7.5% recharge.
On a completely different note, while I'm definitely not an expert, I've found through my own experience that for me personally the set bonuses I am looking for is recharge, coupled with regen and recovery. But the biggest gains so far for my DM/SR are from the incarnate powers.
Outside of the spiritual alpha, the void aoe provides a form of damage resistance that SR just cant get elsewhere where as the heal/regen (destiny slot I think) turbo charges my passive defense. The reactive dot gives a damage boost (since I ran with spiritual vs musculature). I've been playing my DM/SR on and off since CoH pre-order beta started and honestly it is one of my favorite characters. I've been suffering from alt-itis for the last couple months but here is one of the builds I was considering on moving towards for incarnate trials...

It's set pretty high in the defense department and it could easily be tweaked around to improve regen/recovery/recharge/damage as well as dumping the pvp defense IO. Like dumping the Siphon Insight
set and replacing it with a damage/recharge boosting set bonus. One thing is this is more of a budget build outside of the PVP IO, no purples.. the most expensive slots are the lotg recharge I think and those can
be earned relatively quickly and easily with morality missions.

Weave adds defense to all three positions. It is your best toggle after the three main ones. It should be slotted much better than it is. It should definitely be slotted better than Maneuvers.

The auto defense powers are not worth putting more than 2-3 slots in because they only benefit from defense enhancement. I generally suggest putting 2 regular defense IOs in them.

Gaussian's is the best defense per slot set (for positional defense users) after the two 3% defense IOs, but you only took it to 5 slots. You need 6 slots for the 2.5% defense to all positions. You could drop Focused Accuracy because you will never gain any benefit from it (see the paragraph about accuracy) and put the Gaussian's in Soul Drain instead.

Gift of the Ancients is not a good set to use. The max endurance is not doing you much good. Endurance can be managed with the Destiny slot if you still have end issues.

Stamina is over-slotted. The damage buff from Performance Shifter is not worth wasting slots for. Defense bonuses and recharge make the most significant difference on a character. Any other bonus should be secondary until you have perma-Hasten and have reached the soft-cap or other defense goal.

The maximum chance to hit is 95%. To see your chance to hit a +4, set the base to-hit to 39% in the settings, under the effects and maths tab. Soul Drain adds a good amount of to-hit bonus, so you don't need Focused Accuracy or the Kismet to-hit. If Soul Drain shows a 95% chance to hit without other to-hit buffs on, you will be fine.

The best attack chain for Dark Melee is Smite -> Midnight Grasp -> Smite -> Siphon Life. Smite should have procs in it before the other attacks get procs because it is used twice in the chain and has two chances to proc per attack chain. You will need around perma-Hasten levels of recharge to run the chain, which is possible if you re-do your entire build.

Here is a Super Reflexes template that shows you how to efficiently hit the soft-cap so you can use the rest of your slots for recharge bonuses. Just change the melee set to Dark Melee and use the sets somewhere so you can retain the same set bonuses. I would put the Gaussian's in Soul Drain and the Scirocco's in Dark Consumption.

I just tossed a build together that focuses on defense soft cap, recharge, and end recovery with a bit of +HP and regen too. Also has 48% extra accuracy so soul drain has a 94.7% chance to hit +4s. It has perma hasten, and is 1 second away from perma soul drain. One target is all that is needed to be hit capped against +4s with your attack chain. Dark Consumption is also on a 45 second cooldown and will refill an entire bar of end with two targets. It should be able to keep the smite, mg, smite, dl rotation up as well. Endurance shouldn't be a problem, so you're free to go rebirth for an extra heal. All of this assumes you have the third tier spiritual slot with 45% recharge, half bypassing ED.

After slotting to hit the softcap you should focus on a mix of +hp, +regen, and +recharge. Not necessarily in that order, mind you. The +hp will help with those events where big hits get past your defense. I try to shoot for at least 1% hp/sec for regen. The +recharge means you get Soul Drain and Dark Consumption back sooner and can run the top attack chain for DM, which includes a very effective heal midchain if you slot it right.

I don't have my dm/sr's current build on this computer, but I'll see if I can rebuild it or the respec i've been contemplating on for incarnate content.

EDIT: Ok. Threw a build together for incarnate content. Hits the incarnate softcap (59%) with one Luck and still remains 45% softcapped with Maneuvers turned off (to melee/range - aoe just falls short). 1539hp (1807hp with accolades), a 257hp heal every 4-5 seconds depending on if hasten is active, and 1.26% hp/sec regen (19.4hp/sec - 22.8hp/sec with accolades. Toss in the Spiritual Core alpha and you're looking at perma-hasten, more regen, and Siphon Life becoming a 292hp heal every 3-4 seconds. Global recharge sits at 73.75% without hasten.

Nice build infini. Only slightly different than mine, but better is almost every way. Three long recharge powers take 2 or 3 seconds longer to recharge, but the extra regen and HP makes up for it. Thanks for that, I think I'll steal some of it for my own

Haha thanks and feel free to use the build for personal use! I'm pretty excited about respecing him now and finally doing some iTrials.

Side note: I'm curious to see what you come up with for your dm/sr now

Wow, thanks a lot guys I forgot about the rule of 5. Thanks for the pointers too...but he's only at lvl 10 and I'm wondering if shield might be better then SR now. I mean way back in the day SR was pretty awesome but now I'm not sure. Is shield more survivable then SR? Is the extra dmg and hp's better then what SR has to offer? Curious about pros and cons of both...anyone know from personal experience what each has to offer? Because I've never had either and am curious to Shield...

Top end builds of dm/sd are pretty much the kings of single target dps (if I'm wrong about this, then it's a close race with fm/sd). That said, a dm/sd build will be more expensive than dm/sr because it takes a bit more effort to softcap /sd. If you check through the forum you're sure to find one pertaining to dm/sd. Here's a build I threw together for you so you can directly see and compare the two. It's pretty comparable to the dm/sr build I posted, I think. Two major differences between the builds: SR has Quickness, which is an extra 20% global recharge and SD has to use a PVP IO in order to hit the softcap (it's uber expensive). Generally speaking, however, the extra HP and damage you get with shields is more beneficial on top of the minor resists it gets to layer under its defense. Bottom line? Shield is better, but requires more investment that SR. Most likely I would have made a dm/sd but shields came out long after my dm/sr hit 50.

It's way more expensive to get perma hasten as well as your uber dark melee attack chain with shields. I believe it's almost impossible to get the attack chain and capped defenses in shields without using purple sets.

On some of the new trials, during the AV fights, I feel kind of sad on my shield scrapper because I dumped so much money into him and he never has more than one stack of AAO because judgement nukes murder everything around them

That said, /shields knows how to clear some trash mobs.

Also, I just noticed your build does not have a travel power for the DM/SR I like super speed so I can ghost certain missions.

The dm/sd build I posted can sustain the top chain with Spiritual Core Paragon slotted and Hasten running if you slot Ragnaroks into Ball Lightning. With Posi Blast it's just slightly off by the numbers.

As to the lack of travel powers, I stopped putting them in builds once the booster pack travel powers were introduced. My builds are waaaaay better now, as a result. IMO, travel powers are really only useful in PVP and fly/teleport is great for playing in the Shadow Shard. On squishies I might take SS to stealth, but for a character that's softcapped, you don't need stealth... just run past them and laugh as they try to kill you in vain. Just make sure to turn off taunt auras if you got them lol.

True enough I suppose, haha. I'd rather slot out another toon than dump purples into a build, but that's probably because I still have yet to find a cure for my altitis. So many toons, so little time / influence.

The day job reward for logging in the Shard is a toggle Fly power. You can store up to 30 minutes on it.
