+recharge is key. Every power should be looked at to determine what IO set +recharge you can jam into it.
My human attack priority is...(cast whats up in this order)
For AOE:
(if mezzed at any point switch to dwarf and follow dwarf attack priority)
Turn on Orbiting death (with damage procs), and Inky
Eclipse
Mire
If Unchain is up Well a minion and then unchain them.
If Fluffies are up, make or find a dead body and summon one.
Grav emination a boss if they are nasty or in a good cone formation
Dark detonation
(single target attacks until an AOE recharges)
Single target priority of attacks (cast whats up in this order)
Gravity well
Shadow blast
Ebon eye

I have a lvl 50 Shield/SS tanker (see build below). I was playing him when shield first came out and had cobbled together a build. I have seen high end builds but the problem I have is influence is at a minimum (as in under 10 million inf available currently).
I would appreciate it if people could look at my build and suggest what areas should get priority for improvement as I start working towards making him better (and making some money).

Have to say, I really appreciate the great feedback on this post. Thank you for taking the time to give me such great answers.
I'm currently torn between an Earth/Fire and Mind/Fire, so will give both a try and see how I like it.

I've tried some different dominators and like the class, but never gone all the way with one.
The other day, I was on another toon and the team was like "We really would like to find a (insert class combo) or a (insert class combo)" and it made me think.
If you were going to build a dom to the following specs, what combo would you choose:
1. Doesn't require huge money to be effective (at least in end game until you play enough to get better enhancements)
2. Not only helps medium to 8 person PUG's as you level but at lvl 50 will have people saying "Sweet, SoAndSO just joined and they are a */* dom...". Kind of like when a Kin or Rad joins a team.
3. Will never PvP.
4. 57 month vet - so lots of vet goodies but no ability to take the early travel power yet.
I really appreciate any feedback you may have, been trying to decide for a month with no luck so far

So I have a lvl 41 fire/fire brute that I love playing. I understand that there will be a need to frequently heal and he will be less than uber tough with fire armor set, but I would like to try and toughen him up a bit. To add to my problems, I have 1.4 gazillion alts in their mid to higher levels and they have magically sucked away most of my influence <shakes fist at the heavens "CURSE YOU ALT-ITIS!!!!"...>
I would greatly appreciate it if people could look at my current build, and post a build that would give me some more staying power while not using purples. I don't mind working towards sets that are more expensive in general as a long term goal, but will not have the cash for purple sets any time soon.

I have noticed some comments suggesting /TA is a good pairing with Elec control.
Having never played /TA, I am pretty ignorant about it.
I would greatly appreciate it if people would put a few synergies between the two or possibly a standard attack chain that highlights how the two work well together.
I'm not a min/maxer, but I do love me some nice synergy in my powersets.

Lots of good info...i'm torn between Grav/Rad or Grav/TA.
The thought of WH'ing mobs into a oil slick and watching them burn sounds very tempting. Then again, everybody in their mother is happy to invite a Rad/* or */rad to their team.

I can't agree enough with the idea of making Dimension Shift a toggle. Think about it, team is looking at a pretty hairy situation, grav troller is like "I'll lock down (more like suppressing them) while you guys carve away on the rest...tell me when you are ready for my group to be unlocked".

At one point I saw a post linking to a spreadsheet of all the major mob types in the game and listing what damage types they were resistant to and which ones they were weak against.
As I'm leveling up an Ice/Axe tanker, something helping me out on the lethal damage front would be nice.

Great guide! Now I'm back to the old dilemma of translatting all that goodness into a build. Elec/Elec has to be the toughest I've ever had to build.

On characters with aoe dmg like lightning field or the fire aura on my fire brute, as much as it's tempting to take it at the earlier levels, I usually build with it at around 30...this way Stamina is in place, you have SO's to help with the effectiveness/end cost of things, and this allows you to take something else (like a Stamina pre-req, travel pre-req, another key power, etc) earlier on.
Just my past experience, but of course ymmv -
The thing I find amazing about MM's and PvP is it's like nobody ever heard of a little game called DAoC and the Bonedancer class. Granted the bonedancer actually had one way to spec in which you could stay alive, but in general when designing this class, they could have taken a quick look back at the thousands of pages of player input for PvP and the Bonedancer and seen all the mistakes that were yet to be made before they happened. I PvE 99.9% of the time and love the MM...but when creating the MM, the PvP issues have all been around before in other games.
