Quote:The MLP:FIM/Portal fanfic is amusing.I'm not usually one to keep on top of the latest internet trends. But over the last year or so, even I had noticed that there were an increasing number of cartoon ponies showing up everywhere. Apparently there was a new My Little Pony cartoon and lots of people were excited about it for some reason.
At first I didn't really give it much thought. I do like animation; I watched Cartoon Network almost constantly back when it was good (Power Puff Girls, Samurai Jack, Megas XLR those were the days). But a girl's show about cartoon ponies just didn't seem like something I'd care for.
Then I started noticing that a lot of forumites, ones whose insights and opinions I really respect, seemed to be fans of the show. So when I saw it was on Netflix, I decided to watch a couple of episodes to see what the fuss was about.
Of course I got hooked big time. I now check Equestria Daily as often as I check the CoH forums. And I'm reading fanfiction and following fan comics on DeviantArt. This show has grabbed me - much the way that City of Heroes did eight years ago.
So with the end of City of Heroes looming, I just wanted to thank the CoH/MLP:FiM fans in this community for inspiring me to try something that seemed outside my comfort zone. Its appropriate somehow that my new obsession sprang out of my old obsession. And to anyone who's still wondering about My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic give it a chance, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. -

Time to get it escalated then. Reply to the email explaining that you purchased time cards, not points, and since they can't address the issue with now being unable to redeem the time cards request that it be escalated to a senior CS rep.

i was going to get Guild Wars 2 since some friends were already playing it (and i wanted to create a cute little critter who commands horrifying monsters), but now...

Quote:Not the artery, but the vein.I'd do share the feeling that an increase in activity will keep the game a float, but my gut feeling tells me that it's all in vein. I hope not.
i'll do what i can to help revive the game, but regardless i will continue playing until the servers go dark. My only regret is never getting to see the finished Issue 24 go live. So much i wanted to do with that. -
Quote:To any game or just CoH? You can't subscribe to CoH anymore since it's officially in death spiral mode now. The entire studio was let go on Friday, there's basically no game to subscribe to now, so NCsoft is not allowing any more purchases for the game, period.According to the ncsoft site, my codes are valid, but can't be applied.
Have you tried using the codes for other games?
i would suggest contacting NCsoft support and seeing what they can do for you in any event. -
One last time indeed. A pity Ouroboros portals can no longer be used to create bridges, but this will be fun.

Quote:Except we were not only the fans, we were also the team. Which makes it even harder. To anyone that notices how I'm going to be feeling over the next few days, I think I've come up with a good metaphor that should get the point across.
We've all seen news stories about how the people living in Area City become heartbroken, loud, and--rarely--violent when Area City's beloved sports team moves away. It isn't just about the sport, of course; anyone can tell you that being a fan of a sport, and especially a fan of a team, is about being a part of a community. You don't go to a game to sit in the nosebleed seats and try to follow a ball that looks to be half the size of the head of a pin. No, you go because that's where the fans are. That's where your friends are. You identify with that; you're a fan yourself. When someone asks how the game went, you don't say "the team lost by 3." You say "we lost by 3." And you're just as crushed as if you had been on the field yourself. Even to strangers that you otherwise wouldn't associate with, there's an instant bond. That sense of belonging to a greater subsection of society appeals to something very human in most of us.
Now, imagine how the fans of Area City's beloved sports team would react if the team itself simply ceased to exist. Now, imagine the reaction if the sport in question ceased to be played altogether. Imagine if the only way to relive the feelings you had--watching the games with your friends on the couch--was to go to a local sports bar, change the station to a highlight reel, have a few beers with your fellow eternal fans, and reminisce about the good ol' days. -
Some of my alts will be exiting as the world collapses behind them. City of Heroes wasn't their first dimension/incarnation, and it probably won't be their last.
-
i'm going to be screenshotting the costumes and bios of my favorite alts.
i already have a bunch of bios saved as text files anyway since i frequently would compose/edit them with notepad and then paste into game. -
Actually, the CoH is running at least another two months, and doing something like this is more likely to drive former players away from all other NCsoft titles. IMO NCsoft did a "refocusing of their core priorities" bit to show they were doing something about their recent losses and killing CoH is partially a demonstration of their commitment to their new priorities. (That's my guess.)

Actually i used to have some friends who were gay furries, they also played on furryMUCK IIRC. Xibexx in particular had a fascination with horses and unicorns. Wonder if he's a brony now, after all it's been years since i lost track of him.

Quote:To be fair there seems to have been a number of things Sexy Jay wasn't fond of besides furries.Me.
I've been involved in the fandom since 1995, and been on staff at many conventions.
Paragon had an in house furry and never knew.
Sexy Jay enjoyed beer and cocktails talking about how much he wasn't terribly fond of furries while at the room party of one.
The last con i went to there were a bunch of furry enthusiasts i met who were really cool and talented, and then there was the panel that was supposedly about furry support and pride, but there wasn't any real structure or purpose and many of the most vocal participants (some of whom were also running the panel or being encouraged by those running the panel) basically reinforced every single negative stereotype. Some really awesome furry costumes at the con anyway. (The Homestuck horde was more impressive. Actually, lots of good costumes in general.) -
Quote:This has a certain level of plausibility. Especially if NCsoft has also decided that Western-focused games are generally not a good investment and will be focusing more on their locally-oriented games as their core business. Cutting down CoH shows their commitment to the renewed focus on their core business of games aimed at the Korean/Asian markets. It doesn't matter if CoH is modestly profitable since it's not one of their core games and is by its nature a distraction from NCsoft's new vision/focus.2. There's the rumor that Cryptic/PW refused to renew the license on the game engine or set the renewal price more expensive than what it was worth to pay.
The games shutting down on the 5 year anniversary of NCSoft acquiring the license to use Cryptic's game engine. -
Quote:This is what confuses me; is there some sort of tax write off you can get in Korea for holding onto an IP instead of selling or using it?I'm availabel to help in any way that I can - but I'm concerned that this is the now the 7th MMO that NCSoft have shut down rather than trying to sell on to another puiblisher, so there's a big question mark over them even being willing to listen to offers.
Ah well, if a Kickstarter or some other way of reviving the game is actually a real possibility i have a few hundred i can toss towards it. -
Quote:Crap. Despite feeling a bit sick at heart and saddened at the other posts about the closing since i first saw them a little over three hours ago, this post actually had me crying a little.Thank you.
Thank you for making the job of my team a joy. A Community Manager couldn't ask for a better group of players to be given the opportunity to care for. The devotion and dedication you all have to the game and your fellow players has had a really positive impact on my approach to Community Management.
Today has been emotionally challenging for us all. I'm not a man prone to tears, but I couldn't help but crying as I read the messaging that we would be posting to you during our final Studio Meeting. Even though I was only here for awhile, Paragon was home. In my short tenure, I was blessed to see a new era for the game with Freedom, to watch artists pass the torch to each other as they shifted to new projects, to watch developers have a dialog with the Community rather and work together to make the game better and to work directly with you guys to make some amazing content like the Retro Sci Fi set.
Freedom brought a new life to City of Heroes. The game was, and still is, alive and vibrant with more new players joining the fight every day. It's important to know that Freedom wasn't a failure. This really is a refocusing of direction from NCsoft and unfortunately, Paragon didn't fit into that vision. Collectively, we hold no ill will towards NCsoft and thank them for many years of support.
I know that many of you have questions that need answered. I don't have a lot of answers right now, but please be assured that whomever remains behind to sunset CoH, whether it be myself or someone else, will provide updates as much as possible.
I just can't say this enough; it's been an honor and a privilege to play some small part in the history of this amazing game and it's Community. Remember all of the friendships, bonds and connections you've all made with each other. Cherish them and carry with you into the next adventure. You guys, the people, are what MMOs are all about.
Damnit...now I'm tearing up again.
i'm really going to miss the game, but not nearly as much as the players and Developers who are the main reason i've been subbed continuously since May of 2004. And the new stuff that was coming was some of my favorite stuff since the launch of the game.
Not that i won't have lots of other things to fill my time, but this game is the only MMO i've ever played for more than a month.
In fact it's the only video game i've ever played regularly for more than a year.

Quote:The set so far looks amazing, and adding the welder's mask was a great bonus, but a new texture for the school backpack and adjusting the dual chainsaws would be another nice bonus. It's probably way too late in the development cycle but I wonder if it would be possible to add an extra reskin of the School Backpack using these tattered textures as an additional part of this set.
Either way the set is a guaranteed buy for me. -

Quote:Possible? Of course.I think this would be great to see in CoH. I don't know if it would add any additional strain on the system but it would be interesting. Armor sets could use it in place of a damage aura, and it could be part of a buff set even.
Thoughts?
Pretty sure a reflection style mechanic couldn't be added without a lot of coding work.
Guessing that by a thorns mechanic you mean a power that only attacks in response to an attack. That would probably be simpler, but still require adding new code. -

Well, it depends on context...
Possibilities:
Free Peaches Are Really Nice
First Position Activates Railgun Nodes
First Post After Refreshing Nap
First Post After (a) Red Name
Pick whichever seems most appropriate to the context.
