So what are you going to do?

What are you doing to preserve your time playing CoH? For me, I'm going to jot down my character names and powers for posterity.

Very simply? I am going to utilize as many of the character concepts I have created in my own works.

I've got my screenshots of Succubus Kali, Valkyrior, and the rest of the gang. 8+ years of screenshots takes up a lot of space!

i'm going to be screenshotting the costumes and bios of my favorite alts.
i already have a bunch of bios saved as text files anyway since i frequently would compose/edit them with notepad and then paste into game.

I already have demo recordings of all my characters, which include their costume code. I also am very adept at making new demos from scratch without ever recording anything, which I've used to make videos in the past. Put the two together, and I have all the tools I need to visit my characters anytime I want i the future -- after putting together a ton of lines of code, of course.

I will admit that many of my characters predate my creation of them in City of Heroes, and many of them carry with them the weight of their own worlds.

Xylric, for example, has a name that means "Self-Exiled Law of Pain." There are unlimited possibilities with such a character.

I, for one, am going to be taking down the most critical elements of my character's costumes, such that when the time comes, I will be able to recreate them on my own time, in the real world.

I've been logging on and grabbing screenshots of my characters' costumes since I got home from work. I'm going to organize them into folders so that I can retain the looks, should I end up in another superhero game someday (hint: at this point, unlikely). I suppose I could also include a text file with each one stating their power sets and basic concepts.

I'm screenshotting all of my characters front and back, saving costume codes (although I don't know how to demo edit, so eh), and I may translate these characters into other work, or other games, or something.

One thing I will say about CoH is that the way primary/secondary powersets worked force me to think about character and power concepts in ways that wasn't typical for me before. Restrictions like those can encourage more creativity, I think.

Might be worthwhile to commission some art based on the screenshots.

Most of you would probably be staggered at the sheer volume of screenshots I have. I snap them the way someone with a pro camera would an action scene. I literally have 10s of thousands of them.

On the one hand, it means I will almost certainly never fully organize them. Some memories will be buried in the mass of data. But I plan to go through them as best I can anyway, probably after things shut down. And I've saved special memory ones along the way - I don't just leave all of them in the big piles of files I have socked away on redundant drives. (I lost a lot of screenshots from my first couple of years of play, and I learned my lesson.)

I don't really have a formal main - there is no "UberGuy" character. Still, I have long focused on a handful of characters, only getting my 12th 50 this year. All of these characters are tweaked and outfitted to the gills - nothing was too good for them. I will spend a good chunk of time getting FRAPS recordings, in-game demorecordings, and some less visual records (such as badges, hoarded loot counts, etc.)

I will miss playing them. A lot. Some that I still play are from the first few weeks after release.

I'm sad to say my very first character never made it to 50. But I still have him. I think I'll finally get him a new costume as a send-off.

I've been taking masses of screenshots since 2004. In fact, I have several CDs full, and have backed most of them up to Photobucket/cloud storage. I also have tons of RP scenes which were chatlogged and saved, and backed up on Google Docs.

They can take the game from me, but my characters will never die!

How do I keep my characters costume code?
Also I'd love to know how to do a demo recording...

Having so much trouble trying to figure things out... must read it all... keep it... *crazy eyes*

Currently considering immortalizing all my characters in a book... of pictures, back stories favourite places etc. So in years to come I can look over it

What I want to do will likely take me the three months that are left. You see, I am a major alt-o-holic. There was nothing more fun than creating a toon and bringing him or her to life, not in my book, I *loved* it! I currently have 425 alts in my stable, many of them have hours of work behind them while others were more-or-less an idea that was created when a bout of inspiration hit me out of nowhere. But there are a few that are just something special.

I want to log in *all* of my characters (though it may not be possible since my second and 3rd accounts are currently freemium) and get good screenshots of their costumes in Icon, screenshots of them in action, run just one last mission, and then park them somewhere fitting, somehere where he or she can keep their fight going until the lights finally go out.

I have to get my first account done quickly, because when that sub expires there will only be so many toons that I will be able to log in and for some reason...that just wouldn't feel right, to have so many heroes or villains left out in the cold with no more sense of purpose. To me, if I park them somwhere significant, then they still have some sort of purpose in the city.

I really don't know why writing thismade me teary-eyes, but it did. I think it's timeto goto bed. I can only hope that I have enough time to get everything finished that I want to.

I'll be taking screenshots of all my characters. Not mugshots, though. An action shot of some kind. I'll figure it out when I get down to it. There's a lot of work to do, basically.

I will miss City of Heroes, but I am NOT going away empty-handed. This game has been the primary vessel for my creativity for eight years and counting, and the characters, ideas and skills in creation I picked up will not go to waste. I'll ensure my characters live on.

But I won't try to preserve the actual game itself. Maybe as costume files, we'll see, but I don't intend to make videos out of it. Sooner or later I'll reinstall my PC and lose the client, and I doubt NCsoft will offer a download option.

That depends. If the 3 month code I have will work, then I plan to go over the characters of my main account, do screenshots and save the ID's of those who have them. If not then I'm just going to screenshots because I won't be able to activate them all.

On the other hand it would probably be best to just spend some time playing the game. I don't have much free time and haven't played much lately, and it would be good to do that before the game ends.

Edit: Turned out that my 3 month code was only valid for new accounts. I don't remember where I got it, and if it should have been this way. Might have or might have changed to such when they replaced the EU one with a US one. So no full data for my main account.

Sorry to bump/quote myself.... err.. but I'm desperate.

Can someone tell me how to get the costume code and / or demo edit?

Same. I may finally get around to drawing SABRE team in their own comic. And some of my villains, too.

Sad that it's taken this long...

Thanks for giving me an excuse to post this again.
