Quote:Maybe some magical girls? All well and nice, but since I'm not into Bleach and all the other shows have already run their course, this still won't give me much of a reason to watch. If they start running some of the older stuff I haven't seen over and over for several years, or if they get some new stuff they haven't shown before, then maybe I'll tune in.
Although i guess it really derpends on how much CN is actually willing to spend on content. While some new anime would be nice i expect they'll go mostly with rerunning old favorites. In the end it won't make that much difference to me since i haven't had cable in quite a while, just broadband, and there's already plenty of places to watch stuff online.
Still, Toonami was an old favorite of mine. -
You can have my faceplant pose when you pry it from my cold, dead... oh, hmmm.
More seriously i wouldn't mind more defeat poses, but i personally would prefer they still involve being completely prone and immobile, not some sort of kneeling or upright pose. Unless the pose is incredibly silly and ludicrous, but then i'm a sucker for absurdity. Otherwise i think that being incapacitated beyond being able to take action should be indicated by being flat(tish) on the ground.
Also a defeat pose where you lie straight and flat on your back with a lily clutched in your hands over your chest. Yessssss... -
Quote:Were you being sarcastic? i can't tell.reading the OP I assumed that it was a serious compliment. I thought the detail from marketing was excellent. The mentioning of its limitations was very good.
Then at some point I realized that the OP was being sarcastic. I'm not sure where I realized that or why they don't like the marketing.
it is almost enough to make me swear off making bizarre sarcastic rants and posts myself, now that I see how foolish it makes you look. -
Quote:Every time i see one of these threads i have the fleeting urge to headdesk. Whinging that playing for free doesn't give everything a subscription used to (and still does) give you is inane enough, but some of the complaints by others that always follow about how having more stuff available to buy than ever before if they decide they want it means the Devs are somehow cheating them... Headdesking that many times, hell even facepalming, could do some serious damage.the old model is not gone
you can subscribe and get all of the old features, that's what I do
they added a new way to play - but the old way is still there
In the past year or so Paragon Studios has released more powersets and other shinies than in the previous seven years after launch.
And then there's all the new game mechanics, fixes, and new systems.
But aside from all that, what has Paragon Studios done? -
A few that surprised me...
Freedom: Lucky Stiff, Nephrite, general incompetence
Virtue: Blitz-Kid, Mender Churchyard (no relation to Mender Lazarus), Retrofuturist
Champion: Swamp Witch, Magma Chamber, Rave Troll
Justice: Feral Catgirl, Skyclad -

Quote:Uh, what? Considering that nothing was able to actually stop the Praetorian Hamidon or barely slow it at all, and Cole's deal at least delayed it temporarily, so i fail to see how it functions as the object lesson you're claiming. If they hadn't surrendered their liberty in all likelihood the residents of Praetoria, and quite possibly all others of that Earth would have been devoured by the Praetorian Hamidon years ago. At best it functions as Broken Aesop of the trope. It's more like "we're all doomed no matter what we do."Praetoria gets the unhappy ending; an object lesson, as if we needed one, as to why surrendering liberty for safety obtains neither.
In all likelihood the Praetorian Hamidon would develop its own dimensional portals in time considering it already knows of dimensional travel and the origins of that tech on Primal Earth was directly derived from biological processes. It possibly wouldn't bother until it ran out of unassimilated biomass and got bored, so that might buy a decade or three. Of course it could probably grow some nice biological starships in addition to portals, so i imagine it wouldn't be bored for long. For extra amusement value it could change its name to Chtorr before setting off to seek new frontiers across the multiverse. -
With all the power of Rule 34 i say to the OP that, nay, i wish to never see the Praetorian Hamidon go down. The very thought churns the stomach and scars the mind's eye!
But knowing Rule 34 i also realize all protestations are for naught. *shudders*
That said, i would like the opportunity to directly take on and defeat the Praetorian Hamidon even if it was only a temporary victory. -
Quote:Super Stunners are one of my favorites even when playing melee ATs because they can require a little more thought than other Freakshow. Not to mention the fact that we got some new enemy types in certain groups (like Hellion Girlfriends from Hell).
i also enjoyed the new blueside arcs in last issue even if they were fairly short.
The fact is that Paragon Studios have been expanding mid level content in the last couple of issues in addition to the low level content as well as making some of the older but rarely accessed content easier to find, which is a good thing. A fair bit of why i haven't gotten bored is actually the varied interaction with other players even when running the same content as many other times. Hell, sometimes just toying with the NPC "AI" keeps me amused.
On occasion i have taken brief breaks from playing the game, but never for very long. i'd suggest the OP do the same if they're getting burned out. It happens with anything, but you can always come back. Well, at least until the servers are shut down, which should be quite a while barring NCsoft pulling a JPMorgan or the like and taking the game down with themselves. -

Quote:Actually, what puzzles me is if it's the Stalker version he was talking about initially why didn't his numerically laden comparisons of Staff to other sets focus more on Stalker sets? And what makes you think I'm ignoring the fact that you're playing a version of Staff sufficiently different from the other three versions that any perceptions you might have as a result of gameplay would not be directly generalizable to the other versions, even though your commentary on the set is not restricted to that specific version alone? I simply did not reference it, given the fact that the point I did make, which was that you apparently had no experience with any of the four versions before making your initial assertions about the set, superceded that observation.
As far as i can recall Combat's focus in the thread is almost entirely about comparing it to set combinations on other ATs and claiming it's inferior because other sets can get additional AoEs from APP/PPP pools. So it would make more sense when actually playing a Staff Stalker to compare it to his other high AoE Stalker builds achieved using the Stalker PPP/APP AoEs.
Or did i miss the extensive writeup on the higher AoE than Staff Stalker builds? i haven't exactly been reading this thread every hour and could have missed the analysis 'demonstrating' how other Stalker set combos have higher ST and equal or better AoE damage than Staff. -
Quote:Um, that's how they do things in Arth.Just to add some more nitpicking of the thread title to the pile, the opening post is not remotely "damning with faint praise". That means to offer praise that's extremely minor to such an extent that it's apparent you're actually condemning it. Your OP in the thread does not do this - it plainly and directly condemns the story telling in the Hollows. There's no praise involved, faint or otherwise.
Apparently words and phrases are used to mean different things there than they are here. -
Quote:Maybe they could have a thing at the same time as Connecticon. And i'm not suggesting that just because i intend to be there anyway. Really.Yeah, the Hartford Convention Center is always a great place to have convention! ^_^

Quote:A nice cup of tea.my tips
1. When you join a team say hello. If someone joins a team say hello.
bonus: if just one person joins a team say hello and their name
2. When you leave a team say you have to go. As simple as "I need to go" is far better than just leaving.
3. When you are at a group of players - training, shopping, a team - look over the other characters and compliment the name or outfit of any you like
bonus: say a specific part of their outfit that you like. "Nice outfit - I like the mask" -
Quote:A nice cup of tea.I deleted all of my characters and started a new one. I had done a bunch of teaming, then done a bunch of AE arcs (you can see the ones I liked in my list of arcs by level http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=287853). So I decided to do some solo play of old content. Did Habashy to level 5 then hit the Hollows.
I decided to call for others when I got to FF. Did a few missions. Another player started a team so I joined that - and had to quit right before they did FF. I did FF myself the next day. Joined another Hollows team for 1 mission (then it disbanded). And finished the missions this morning with Atta.
Awhile back I had posted about Hollows having a story and some hater had posted that the Hollows was terrible and had no story. Well it turns out they weren't a hater, they were right.
Hollows has silly street hunts (you hunt 10 trolls at least 3 times). Kill alls. Really long grinding missions. Very little story, very few details.
The new content is so much better. I am sad that I skipped the other Atlas content to do the Hollows. I look forward to going back to Steel and doing the new arcs there. Then Talos and the newish content there.
My nostalgia for old content is slain at this point. There is a reason to hide it and focus on the new. -
Quote:A nice cup of tea.Everyone presumably trains powers and adds enhancements
surprisingly many people never bother with inspirations
what else do you use?
1. crafted powers - envenomed dagger is big vs AV's, stun grenades give everyone an AoE mezz, lots of other powers as well
2. Safeguard temporary powers just for doing them - sure there is flight, but there is also END increase and Health increase
3. Safeguard temporary powers for side missions
4. Day Job buffs - recharge buff, regen buff, etc
5. Temp power from patrolling PvP zones - stealth or phasing
6. Temp powers from regular missions - wedding ring, holy shotgun
7. DfB and DiB temporary buffs - through level 20 or 30
8. Kal SF has a buff up to 50, +Max HP, +Regen, +Dmg
9. Buying better inspirations and emailing to self
10. Special buffs SG's can get from their base
11. Accolades with buffs/powers
I pretty much don't use any of the list. When I get one I always think I should remember to get more, then I don't. -
Quote:Except Dark Armor because, as Dechs and others know, Dark Armor sucks.Never, ever, EVER, EVER tell someone a set is 'bad' EVER. You come off sounding like an elitist, and who knows? Maybe that person will absolutely LOVE your 'bad' set and play it better than anyone you've ever seen.
Generally i'd agree that the best thing is to be friendly and sociable without babbling constantly or trash talking other players. Try to answer other people's questions when you can. -
Now, i don't always agree with Sam, but when i do i concur.
You could go the BB Hood from Vampire Savior/Darkstalkers route an use AR or DP with Traps, but I also really like the Dark/Psi Dom who makes her nightmares real and then sics them on others. -
i was a little "meh" when i heard about the cyberpunk pack, but now that i've seen some of the concept sketches and work in progress i'm actually looking forward to it. i am hoping that some sort of newer cybernetic/robotic pieces get added to the monstrous/digitigrade legs with the pack.
The new sets and events seem like they'll be good as well. -
Quote:Even worse those bastards have deprived entire generations of the opportunity to see major waterways catch fire. There are few things as awe-inspiring and as vivid a testament to the awesome capabilities of humans as seeing the surface of a river burn.DPS and EPS are easy enough to understand.
The EPA, however, is a vile organization that is vehemently opposed to job creation and progress as a scientific community. That one, I'll never understand.
Don't get me started on the lake near an old copper mine that was a clear crystalline blue all the way to the pristine rocks and mud of the bottom, no scummy plants or animals clouding its purity. i could see all the way to the bottom even in over eight feet of water. Now I understand stuff has started to grow and cloud the water. Almost certainly because those EPA scum encouraging the growth of pond scum. Jerks. -
Quote:With the no fade or pulse options used and the right colours it doesn't obscure most costumes that much, but it still makes you look shrouded in smoke, so dark toned costumes can be harder to make out. Back before power customization every Dark Armor user ended up looking like a smog cloud, so that was a pretty valid issue back then.I have to amend something, @ lvl 35 slotted as previously stated, end becomes pretty much a non-issue. I guess it's just being paitent and getting it slotted enough to be effective, sometime not my strong suite. (Granted this toon is a glorified taunt dummy) I'll have to see how it does against Cimeroians and some high lvl mission... but as far as end went, just finished Citadels TF, and wasn't panting or falling over at the end.
As for the effects vs. costumes, I seem to remember a lot of toons named things like "little ball of snot" and the like back in the day. Not sure if they changed that or not, but you can see your costume now even with all the toggles running.
On Freedom I haven't seen any dark armor at lower lvls and it's rare to see it at high lvls.
Peace guys!
_____________
Liquid paper is mighter then the pen!
i rarely play on Freedom myself, and i hadn't played DA for a while because i'd already leveled up several DA users and had moved on to new sets that i hadn't played as much.
Recently i remade my first 50 with the sets he should have had back in 2004 if Staff Fighting had existed back then and Dark Armor didn't sound like chorus of dental drills all. the. freaking. time. without. end.
Even after the armor toggles stopped being mutually exclusive the sound was an even bigger deal breaker for me than the endurance costs. -
*facepalm* Seriously, have you read ANY other threads about Dark Armor in the past two years or so? (i'm asking partially because i could swear you made a similar comment in a similar DA thread about a year ago, and it was pointed out as being just as wrong then.)
Anyway, i will agree that Dark Armor starts out somewhat squishy at the lower levels, but as it levels up it keeps acquiring more and more tools to counter this. Dark Regeneration does have a high end cost, so without the ToE proc it can be tricky deciding when to use it. Still, i find my Dark Armor users perfectly playable if slightly squishy against small numbers of hard targets without IOs, but devastating with them. i usually haven't found the end cost difficult manage except for DR's, but then i haven't used Cloak of Fear either. With Tough alone DA is pretty durable and does well against masses of enemies when paired with AoE heavy offensive sets. -
Actually i've found that only an issue near the end of fights for me. On teams i generally pop Build Momentum as i'm jumping into the spawn and then kick off a series of lightning-fast, hard-hitting AoE attacks as an opener. Usually it's just the last couple of enemies where someone will take them down as i'm winding up. Build Momentum is an every spawn sort of power once it's slotted.

Quote:Oh yeah, i've still got the Champions box set that came out a couple years later that also included Champions II and III, as well as the adventure/campaign starter book along with a hex map and some character sheets for photocopying.Champions came first, the Hero system evolved out of it.
I was at Pacific Origins with some pals the year it was released (1981) and picked up what must have been some of the first copies available from their booth- it was a staple-bound paperback, much less comprehensive than the 1st hardcover edition a few years later.
The Hero System is still one of my favorite systems. Mostly because you can get as granular as you want with it, but you can also play it more streamlined. While actually designing characters can be a bit slow and math intensive if you're not using predesigned frameworks gameplay can be pretty quick once you're past character generation if you stick with the more basic combat rules. In fact you can play with just some character sheets and a list of standard modifiers once you have the basic rules down. Of course the flexibility of the system means the GM has to set some ground rules and limits and approve character builds or someone familiar with the system can break it pretty badly. -
Widows are at their best at melee range. Widows are very much like Claws/SR Scrappers with the addition of Psi resistance and defense as well as excellent team buffs. Fortunatas are the more ranged version.
