Quote:And yet somehow my Scrappers, Brutes and Tankers have run that content both solo and on teams. When it's my arc i tend to solo it, but i have also joined teams running that arc with all of the above. The Vanguard were just brought in as a further example. I suspect that the Vanguard content was simply not meant to be played by melee ATs.
This thread has given me a fair number of literal facepalms. Every time Heraclea posts about how certain content is unfair to certain AT's or just plain too hard i have to wonder how her experiences running the same content that i've done many, many times can be so different.
When i form/join teams for anything, unless it's for a "Master of" badge, i only look for willing teammates regardless of AT. Even for "Master of" attempts my personal criteria only extend to preferring to find at least one teammate with one of a handful of powersets. Not even any specific set or AT, just as long as it's one of those that helps make it easier. i'll even give it a shot without a desired set as long as the rest of the team indicates that they're okay with a high chance of not getting the badge in that run.
The fact that at least half the time i play characters with a buff/debuff set does make SF/TF recruiting easier. Ran a Numina TF once on my Earth/TA Controller where the Empathy healer quit after the third mission for no apparent* reason leaving me as the only support on a team of Blasters and Scrappers. We completed it without incident or even any teamwipes. No specific AT/powerset is required for any content as long as the players cooperate and coordinate.
*The healer did complain a couple times that they didn't have anything to do most of the time, but that's hardly a reason to quit. True, if they'd had more than one attack it probably would have been less boring, but that wasn't the team's fault. -

Quote:Is this a good time to point out that all Blaster teams have beaten the Statesman Task Force? Or is that irrelevant to your issue with the late game task forces? It has ever been my understanding that it was fundamental to the design philosophy of this game that any team of the required size, featuring any ATs and any power sets, could successfully run any content that required a team. Neither tank nor healer nor buffer nor debuffer were required to do anything. A team of eight ice melee/fire armor tankers or mind/empathy controllers with only SO builds ought to be able to defeat Ghost Widow, in other words.
The problem with gimmicky encounters is that they threaten to break this design philosophy. The more gimmicky an encounter is, the more the player base becomes motivated to find a formulaic team that will succeed on it, and this leads to discrimination against character types that do not fit the formula.
I don't want this game to develop in a direction where everyone else wants to run frustrating content.
The only time specific powersets or AT's are mostly required for certain content is when you're trying for "Master of" badges. No specific team composition is required to complete any of the content in the game.

What does "Mytery" mean? It's a mystery to me.
i have a four year old, almost never logged in Earth/Rad Controller on some server i rarely play on named "Der Buck Futter". (His civilian name is Con Seannery.) Sometimes i consider deleting him as an unfunny joke, but he's not really doing any harm as the occasional name in the character select list and i still have unused slots on that server. -

Yes, but only if the bonus has the same name. Two bonuses can have the same value and not count towards stacking when named differently. Just chiming in trying to make sure that it's clear how this works. It definitely can be a bit confusing at times.

i expect it won't be that much different than exemping down for a TF when the other teammates are in the TF level range. Access to more powers, but same combat level.

The original poster's name alone told me what to expect. Despite that i clicked in the hopes that my expectations would be confounded and it would be interesting or at least different from what i expected. Well, it was a bit different, but it wasn't very interesting. Still, i'm impressed. i had much lower expectations than what i found.
i guess O_I decided to drop most of the semi-literate child persona. i like that. Slightly less annoying to read.
i really don't recall if O_I was one of Professor Whackadoodle's accounts or not, and don't care enough to look it up. (Or even look up what the Professor's actual name was. That paper was a waste of electrons at best. Self-serving rhetoric and self-deceiving rationalizations do not make for good academic writing.) -

i don't know... one of the most widely rquested new powersets was psi melee and with the whole Tai Chi look of the set it does make it seem likely that it could be a mix of smashing and psi damage.

Quote:i'm thinking that's a fairly good description. To me it sounds like an Incarnate basically unlocks a secondary Archetype on the character that has ten levels of progression that don't directly affect security/threat level. The real question being whether you advance through the normal xp sources or if it requires specific Incarnate xp/content to advance. There are so many ways i can think of that this could be handled that i think i'm going to have to wait for more information.I look at it more as a Martial arts thing. Lvl 50 is like getting your Black Belt. As you train and progress more you get 1st degree Black, 2nd Degree Black, etc.
You're still a black belt, but more experienced.
Quote:I'm really looking forward to this! I'm hoping the first lvl of incarnates raises defense lvls! That should replace the Zephyr nerf!

Excellent. Any time you upgrade/add a code that includes a free month it will be added to your game time. i'd picked up a few of the old editions for the goodies that came with them and the extra month has always been added as well.

Quote:Most of the time i wait until 22.Please tell me that you are not wasting respec's on characters under level 20...
i usually go through a couple respecs on the way to 50, and then i normally only use one or two a year for an alt after that. i do have several 50 alts i'm considering redoing the builds on pretty extensively since they were done fairly soon after inventions were introduced and i've gotten much better at designing builds and several good sets have been added since then. Overall i will respec on a whim. For alts that have been idle for long while i will use a freespec when i start playing them again if i've found new build strategies in the meantime even if they're only level 12. -

All set bonuses follow the rule of fives regardless of whether the bonuses come from uncommon, rare or ultra-rare sets.
The name of the set bonus is what determines whether it counts against the limit of five of any set bonus. There are a few cases where the value is the same but the name of the set bonus is different. -
Dispersion Bubble and Sonic Dispersion being the most obvious two. i'm pretty confident non-cone AoE effects in the game come in two flavors: cylinders and spheres, with all buff AoE's that i know of being listed as spheres. Of course the graphical effects can be any shape, thus the ellipsoid shape of the graphics for the Dispersion twins. (Fraternal, not identical.)

Considering how long he's been making posts along these lines i suspect you're looking at it.

Quote:As i recall the one widow AoE was fixed a while ago, so which one was it?No, what he's talking about was indeed fixed. This patch changed at least one other thing as well. One villain only power lacked an AoE cap that now has one.
It makes sense to set all AoE's to just below the aggro cap as a maximum, but i still didn't complain when the cap was missing. -

Been playing mostly redside on Champion recently. DP/DM Corruptor. Not the most powerful primary, but i'm having fun with it. Besides, Dark Miasma makes anything better.

Quote:i don't follow. So, if something appears on a marketing survey people are not allowed to disagree with it from then on?People shouldn't get pissy about this idea because it was actually suggested in a marketing survey a couple years ago.
i think i need to start making some targeted marketing surveys.
