Quote:See, I disagree with that. While people that don't take Stamina are more likely than not a minority, I'd wager that the balance of those who take and don't take Hasten would be fairly even. Same as Leadership pool, fighting pool, etc.
Stamina is a 'take it for your own sake' power. To basically stop your endurance from sucking, period. With exceptions being Regen, Willpower or Empaths. While people may take certain powers for concept, most will still take Stamina simply to avoid the PITA that is running out of endurance every other damn fight.
I'd tend to agree with this. Most builds NEED Stamina - and getting to Stamina is a PITA in itself. There's at least 2 powers most just don't want to take just to get there.
Most other pools are pretty optional, even the travel powers these days, but fitness is about the only definite requisite unless you've got serious End mitigation.
From my own experience I have taken hasten on about 1/3 of my toons - but it's by no means universal. Some pools I've never taken in over 4 years and probably around 100 toons - so from one point of view this is a very good move. From another, well, we'll see how the manage it.
As for the comments about "Optimal Builds" - I've been playing long enough to know that there's no such thing: We get a new and different optimal build every month - it's down to perception. People will have more opportunity to experiment but that's all - especially if we get a new pool set to replace. -
One thing we should also bear in mind is that the Devs have a habit of putting us through a loop - so that things we anticipate do not appear as we may expect.
I wouldn't put it past the them to put in a story line that we actually dealt with the Coming Storm almost by accident - in a similar way that the alien invasion fleet in HGG which was swallowed by a small dog. -
Thanks for the input peoples.
Shame we can't do it - but there we go -
Thanks. I'm totally gutted

Sadly due to unforseen wossnames I'm gonna have to cancel - reality's bitten me in the proverbial, but I'll be with you in spirit.

Useful review but I'll stick with my Copperhead and my Nostromo n52

Quote:I see what you're saying but the trouble is if their cost is reduced then the world and his dog takes them and the game gets even easier.I'd like the Leadership toggles not to have such a stupidly obscene end/sec cost. For what they do, it's only really viable on a few of my toons, such as my MM and my Empath.
And Tough and Weave are guilty of this. Sure, they are nice bonuses, but they already take up a power pick, slots and a power pool choice. Getting penalised with end/sec cost is a bit much to have on top, IMO. -

what alternatives do you have? -

One of the other aspects that's becoming increasingly clear (and I'm very glad this is so) is that we simply do not have enough information. There's clearly a whole raft of stuff that has yet to be revealed. Some of us are jumping the gun and have decided in a black and white manner that "X is so" whereas I wouldn't be even slightly surprised if the story creators (ie the Dev team) turned this on their head and threw us a loop that may yet reveal more facets of the characters we've come to enjoy.
In fact I'd be surprised if that didn't happen.
Clearly there's a massive amount of mileage in GR and in Praetoria and I'm excited to see where it leads next. -
I've used stealth to great effect on a couple of toons - just the one power mind but the stealth power and a stealth IO gives far better invis than the invisibilty power
I have never taken medicine myself and I should on Scarlet's 2nd build just for the badge - eventually, and presence... yeah very much in agreement -
Are we likely to get a new pool to replace it? 4 new powers to give our characters an extra bit of oomph, character or something that will simply flesh them out a bit more?
Probably a bit much to hope for but would be nice I feel -

ok this thread's gone south suddenly so if a few of you (I'm excluding the Autistic Troll
from this) want to take it outside that'd be good.
Just to point out that this thread isn't about correcting grammar (btw it's repudiate) it's about discussing the arcs in Praetoria.
One thing that struck me is that the new content is very much playing to the 16+ certification of the game since the CoH/CoV merge. This content is clearly not for kids and as someone in my middle years I find the questions tough to debate even if the consequences are negligible. I understand that there are many games that go far further than this in terms of violence and graphic realism, but I'm not aware of any that actually mess with your moral compass the way that GR does. (I'm very open to correction here, I'm not a huge game buyer, but I think my point stands.)
What this game does is (I hope) make the player think. For me - and I'm betting for most of the thread contributors her - it worked. We are also able to draw geopolitical parallels - for me it's mostly Pol Pot and Nicolae Ceauşescu that make the better comparisons.
Let us also remember that very few successful revolutionaries are remembered as liberators. -
Quote:I think that's as much "design" as it is story. The Loyalist faction has to have some redeeming features - even if it's "we're less crazy than the lunatics" - and ok so the zombies are allegorical for terrorists and suicide bombers who tend to be people who lose sight of their overall goal and instead become hell bent on forcing others to their will by violence rather than reason.I do have one caveat to that applause. By level 15, I wanted out. Nothing I did was going to matter and that was obvious, so I wanted to just opt out and do something else. I stopped doing the main missions and just street hunted for the hours required to leave. The storyline actually made me stop caring about it. It tried a little TOO hard to be "gray", when to me it was just evil and lesser evil. there's no difficult moral decision here: when tasked to choose between fascists who want to maintain a status quo and complete lunatics who want revenge and are willing to create zombies and send those zombies to kill people and then "rescue" them from the zombies?
Yeah, you go with "less evil". What's difficult about this choice for sane persons? Not even "evil" characters would side with those lunatics unless they're of the often-seen alignment of Chaotic Stupid. To them I advise a glance at the Evil Overlord list.
The character I played had this to say before I.. frankly lost interest. "There DOES need to be a resistance... but not them. Not like that."
To mitigate the "average" Loyalist's perspective, it's quite easy to get a sense that in Praetoria there's chaos just under the surface - just a light scratch and humanities last stronghold collapses: Cole might be a ******* but he's the only ******* we've got and so far we're surviving the pressures from within and without. Things may be tough, but they'd be a lot tougher without him. Thus, hard decisions need to be taken for the common good. -
Quote:I've just started playing GR, and I find myself mainly wanting to go off and start my own society that ignores all these dilrods, but that's not an option so far.
So instead I'm going to shoot people and destroy stuff. Almost as good!
I feel exactly the same way.
I think I've said this before, but I get the distinct hunch that we may well get some arcs in future inspired (or at the very least giving a hefty nod) by Mark Grunewald's "Squadron Supreme" or similar, where the PCs from Primal Earth get to move in to Praetoria to fix it and prevent it being a threat.
Having run a few more arcs (and I've tried different ones - I've noticed that even those minded to be good seem very flawed.
One big difference between this and much of the "main game" content, ie Heroes and Villains, is that I actually want to know the stories, rather than simply play through the arc. I'm inspired to read them whenever possible to get the flavour and the way they interlink is inspired.
However much I dislike the NPCs, it's because the content is so good and the way they are written is done so well. Bravo Devs -
Quote:Actually that's probably a lot more to do with chinese gold sellers who were PLing people doing that, rather than farming per se. Possibly a semantic explanation but the difference (to me at least) is importantBut, farming HAS caused things in the non-AE game to be changed.
Shadowhunter's map is now timed, it didn't used to be.
Dreck's map is now timed, it didn't used to be.
Comm Officer portals no longer give XP.
Portal-spawned Behemoths no longer give XP.
High level Family mobs got their rewards reduced. -
is it possible to get the "Ash" symbol in a character name in game? It's possible in chat, but I've tried most of the combos suggested in the wikipedia entry here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Æ1 and I've not managed it.

Psyber-Girl lvl 50 Psi/MM blaster
Got her from 18 to 50 on a DXP weekend right ater Psi and MM became blaster sets. Dinged 50 on the Egg Hunter bagdge but 2 days later she had no appeal. -
When they first came out I ran a couple of blasters with them and it did help but nowdays Debt is so meaningless so that component of the bonus is pretty meaningless. One point about them is they tend to be low level cheap sets so if debt does bother you they aren't expensive.
