Debt Protection Build?

It's one of those useless little "Why did they not put something else with it" set bonuses - Debt Protection. Admittedly they've done more to the game that makes debt even more of a non-issue since I9, but even when they were introduced, I don't think anyone was jumping for joy at seeing Debt Protection bonuses. (Especially at 1%.)

Still, out of curiosity (and boredom,) has anyone ever tried throwing together a "Debt protection" build - just to see how high you could get on it? (No, I don't think anyone would do this in game, this is more of a "Play with mids" item.)

I've always called it "badge protection", personally.

This is how I see it. Debt is a badge.

Goodbye. Not to the game, but the players. Goodbye. Everyone, remember to have fun. That's all I can say.

And I want to see if anyone throws one together for laughs.

Luckily it usually appears in sets i don't use. It made no sense to me from the day i first saw the set bonuses. i guess it was so that some low level sets wouldn't have too few bonuses without giving out bonuses that could be useful. i'd take ".5% defense against cold attacks" over debt protection any day.

assuming you could get a build that can fit 5 of each level of debt protection, I work it out at 37.5 % being the max available. Which isnt alot, now if 100% was achievable, maybe I would play a blaster

Well, if you fight in RWZ you get 50% debt prot, i wonder if they add or multiply. If they add you'd be looking at 87.5% debt protection in that zone
No idea if it works like that tho.

When they first came out I ran a couple of blasters with them and it did help but nowdays Debt is so meaningless so that component of the bonus is pretty meaningless. One point about them is they tend to be low level cheap sets so if debt does bother you they aren't expensive.

Of course if you're staying with the low level, cheap sets it is more likely that debt will bother you. So i guess in a way they justify their own set bonus?

This sort of ties in with something I was thinking about for one of my other characters for issue 19 and the changes to fitness. I was considering trying to max out run speed on one of my scrappers and had noticed that quite a few of the sets I would be using also contained debt reduction bonuses, which got me thinking of the potential for a build designed around reducing debt and movement bonuses. Seeing this thread rekindled the idea so I played about with Mids a bit... and came up with this.

(This uses Leandro's patched version of Mids found here)

As far as I can tell, the Debt Protection set bonus is one that was meant to be a "filler" in a set. They had to put something there, but wanted to make sure that some sets would be highly valued (and thus expensive) and some would be less desirable (and thus easy to acquire for the budget-minded).

A quick glance through Paragonwiki and I'm not seeing any Purple sets for Resist Damage or Snipe sets. Should the Devs ever put one together, I would find it hilarious for one of the set bonuses (at the 3 or 4 spot preferably) to be an "Ultimate Debt Protection Bonus" in the 10-15% range. This would be funny because it's in a Purple set, one of the most coveted things in the game, and because while they may drop at L47+, they're only slottable for L50 characters.

Or maybe in a new PvP set, should there be a desire for one.

Yeah, I've always avoided those sets partly for that reason. That and by the time I'm all IO'd out debt becomes mostly meaningless, especially with patrol XP.

Hahaha!

I've been thinking to make a build with all these awesome powers: Group Fly, Team TP and Whirlwind, and built to maximize debt protection bonuses, but never came around to actually spec it in mids

maybe - and it's an option of course. I wonder how much debt you'd get building the sets though

Whoa! Don't underestimate that debt protection bonus. Go to the RWZ with that nifty 30% debt prot and you got yourself a shiney 80% debt prot! Then you can go around as a willpower toon and die on purpose to use the self rez. Then you can unleash! Getting only 20% of the regular debt 8)
