  1. I'm not that good. My reaction speed isn't frankly quick enough to take advantage of any speed increase. I struggle with SB or SS as it is
  2. Thanks for the list, very useful but clearly that's not working right currently then. I've checked out as many as I could. I'm guessing it's broke.
  3. What about the Ouroboros structure or the floating islands in the zone?

Also I was in an Arachnos map last night for a tip mission - I've been in it a couple of times in the past but can't remember what it's called. It's multi-levelled and has 2 very long steep ramps at the top third - not sure if I've described that.

Any mention of the Eden Trial caves too?
  4. Do you mean specific letters and is there a list? I checked out many choosing a wide variety.
  5. What's happened to all the NPC chatter?

It used to be you'd often get a quirky retort or something useful if you tried to chat to an NPC. Now by far the most simply say "Nice day, isn't it?"

Even the normally quirkly and amusing NPC dialogue seems to have broken. One hapless pedestrian wandered past me and exclaimed "Psst! Look it's Scarlet Shocker. The one who took down BOSS_NAME!"

I know there was a problem with pedestrians vanishing and been reinstated so I wonder if that's been part of the problem but it'd be nice to know how many hours I've been playing a toon or similar and that seems to have vanished. The best I've managed is 2 NPCs told me the time.

Used to be that names beginning with different letters would be key but seems something's gone pear shaped recently.

Because certainly anything as mundane as posting here on the forums would generate a wave of replies along the lines of "well of COURSE they say things are okay, what else would they say when things are obviously heading for disaster!"

It's like the old loaded question "when did you stop beating your wife?"
The only constructive answer is none at all.

    Actions speak louder than PR.
They've got two issues in the pipeline and will doubtless be providing some details at the NY comic con. This should do more to reassure rational players than some kind of forum announcement that no, the company isn't insolvent, yes, they're staying in business and oh PS, an abject apology for the party pack directed at the marginal types who've completely lost their minds because the devs tried to charge them eight bucks for emotes.

    Rubbish

They could very easily do a forum Q&A thing for example, talking about stuff that couldn't get discussed during development, why they chose the course of action they did, the particular challenges they faced in development, a few interesting anecdotes etc.

Nobody's asking for special treatment, but some treatment would be a very positive thing.

Seriously, where was the last time that happened with an MMO? Look, some of these fears are probably unfounded, some of them are reactionary, some reading too much into small details, however, when they start becoming more and more prevalent, they need to be addressed. The longer they swirl around, the louder thoe voices become, and the more people start listening.

At this point, marketing/OCR are doing the game a disservice via their silence, and it's at a time where they should be riding/fanning the optimism of a new expansion, and gearing up to protect this game against the competition that launches in less than 2 months.
That's a really good point, the blanket of silence that's fallen on the boards since launch is disturbing. I appreciate many of the Devs have been off doing shows and stuff but there's no effort being put into it. The only community gig I know of was the party to sell the emote pack after realising they'd produced a pony.*

Black Pebble's done a vanishing act and so far as I can tell only 3 senior devs have posted since the launch of GR and only in a handful of instances, and some, such as Television and Manticore seem to have fallen off the face of the earth.

  9. It used to be there would be spates of invasions that would span about a fortnight, then stop for a while. We've not had any of them for an age I guess in part to do with GR launch but I really loved them (and to a lesser extent the Zombie invasions too)

I'd really like to see the invasions again but I guess there'd be a cry of "Boo, Devs hate Praetoria" cuz they dind't get the events

We all see Avatea and Ocho, but ... the communications from them are usually fairly formal, without reaching out to the community as a whole in any substantial way (I've had a few casual PM exchanges, but that's a little different).
I think you've hit the nail on the head there - however much they may love the game and community I don't see their enthusiasm coming across in their interaction with the community which is kind of unusual for that kind of role I guess
  11. yeah good point perhaps "temporary" wasn't the best word but I've not found that it spoils the enjoyment at all. In some ways I can see it's a kind of advantage - it gives the imps a moment of respite especially if they are getting splattered by something tough. Gives them a chance to run out and maybe get a bit of a random heal and lose aggro etc.

Not everyone will see it like tht but maybe cuz I'm a newcomer to the set I've really not found it as a problem
  12. I'd say upwards of 75% of my characters start with a name and then the concept comes after that, most notably "Scarlet Shocker" who very quickly became a blaster
  13. It's a red suede flogger

Other pets have stronger melee attacks than ranged attacks.

I mean it's temporary in that the oil slick has a very limited life-span and so the moment it's expended the pets attack again. Invariably there are other targets for them to attack anyhow unless you're down to the last AV in which case they get a moment to put their feet up and have a G&T

    Hamidon?

Well thanks to those of you who tried. Was a good effort but maybe next time
  17. Scarlet Shocker

    Hamidon?

As things stand it's been pretty difficult to get people motivated so not sure how successful we'll be. Even the EoE hunts have been pretty poorly subscribed so let's hope we are pleasantly surprised.
  18. As a newcomer to the TA set I'd say that it's not a problem. It seems like a temporary glitch at best and the pets only skirt around the edges and wipe anything that escapes from the burning conflagration so it's almost a win/win
  19. I have an Ill/sonic at 50. I've also got a few other trollers at 50 that are better slotted.

to play, the Ill/sonic is pretty boring - the sonic powers don't have great visual effects that indicate what's happening, unlike say Thermal or Storm

However when teaming in a challenge team as I'm wont to do, when I offer what I should bring, I invariably get asked to bring this because of the sonic. Most melee toons love the effects it gives them and I get yelled at if they don't get their buffs - unlike most other troller powers.

That said, I couldn't tell you how it solo'd... well I could, very badly especially at low level. It tends to do DPM rather than DPS. From my understanding of Elec control which I've only got limted experience with there may be a bit of an end mitigation but frankly I'm not sure it will give you too much of a benefit.

Personally for a solo toon I suspect /sonic would work well with a much harder control toon; earth/sonic would be a nice combo cuz of the solid controls that earth gives - lock 'em down and debuff 'em to hell and back and a pet to hang the rings around

But with all that said I'm not really a numbers person so someone will almost certainly offer a counterpoint.

I'd suggest try it and give us a report once you've got to 40ish

They were working on these auras intending to be in a future pack. But the flood of negativity with the party pack prompted marketing to do some damage control so they decided to put it into a free issue instead.

However, they can't wait on that damage control until the issue is released, so they decided to "leak" whatever they have developed already so they can come out as a hero for listening to the player's concerns.

    /tinfoilhat off

    How's that?

I think you're crediting marketing with more intelligence than is due

That said I do feel they are slowly learning that there's some stuff the client base will be unhappy about. I wouldn't be at all surprised if the "Party Pack" was a test bed to see if something that minimal and would actually make a decent profit.
  21. Very pleased to see these are coming "as standard" and not part of a paid-for expansion but the cynic in me does wonder if that's because they were leaked somehow.

    They look good though

    The bigness!

Big weapons are stupid, unwieldy and cumbersome and look bloody awful IMO. The broadsword currently available is already too big.

Besides, most of the posters here don't act like petulant children. One of the things that makes this forum better than every other gaming forum I've been to.

I'd agree with pretty well all of this.

I think I've said before that when NCSoft took over the entire CoH property, there was a sea-change that promised a bright future for the game and that lasted quite a while but has been rapidly eroded by certain non-Development issues involved in running and managing the game.

If you want to reward people for participating in events, reward them with something else, like experience, money, rare drops, buffs or what have you. But NOT costumes.

In fact, I have made it a point that I will pay for any costume piece added to the game, rather than having to bust my *** to unlock them for every single character every single time. If, at some later point, you feel like complaining about every new costume piece is becoming a booster pack, you have only yourself to blame for making people like me fed up enough with "capes at 20" that we will sooner pay through the nose than be stuck unlocking still more costumes. If this nonsense had died way back in I2, I would never have supported costume booster packs. EVER. However, I know that if they are indeed put into the game, they'll be put behind some kind of assinie unlock requirement.

Screw this. I would sooner pay for costume pieces than have to unlock them, and I intend to continue to do so until I get the ability to have all costume items at character creation.

Is there anything in this game you don't moan about? Personally I love the events and judging by the number of other people who take part in them, you're pretty unique in universally decrying them.

I'm with Canifax, I hope they are a craftable cossie reward.
