Finish: Sunday, January 25th, 8:59pm GMT

so 9pm on Sunday? That's kind of premature isn't it? I don't recall them ever ending that soon... and it does seem like an odd time.
Is this an error or is GR gonna come into work and turn the gas of on Sunday evening?
Enquiring minds wish to know -

I think if anyone decides to invade your planet, regardless of the proboscial profile, it's perfectly legitimate to want to beat seven shades of the proverbial out of them and then jump up and down on what's left until they've had enough.

I would hope that eventually things like cut-scenes are able to be added to the game as I find they add immensely to a great mission, the Statesman TF being a prime example with old Dr. Aeon.

This (and Frostfire!!!!! don't forget) -
Yanno, it's funny but I've had three weekends like this on the trot.
Sod the Naysayers and doom merchants... I've spent the last 3 weekends mostly on Defiant Villains and I've been beating potential team members off with a big stick.
I think we are seeing a combination of things:
a) It's just after Xmas so everyone's too skint to go out
b) the "credit crunch" has everyone in hiding.
c) people have got the holidays out of the way and rediscoverd just how damnably good this game really is.
d) I13 has actually got a lot for every player, new and old.
Whatever the demographics, it's great to see -
Happy birthday mate.
May there be much Cake and Merriment! -
This is Cult Fiction
Cult Fuction Royale

Look for them on Amazon. These are the choons you are looking for!
Edited to add: The Avengers! -
Ok I'm not sure about you but pm DXP weekend I'll be focussing on Red Side.
I've got a rad rad crupper that's currently about 42 and want to get her to close to 50 and I've got my Soldier I'm working on that I'd like to get to high 30s at least.
Plus an MM that could do with some Leurve...
so if any of you guys want to join in the fun, let me know -
How the hell did this escape "The Great Prune"?

There is a difference between a flower child (pre-summer of love, girls with flowers in their hair and long floaty dresses, guys in kaftans and similar) and a hippie. Hippies came post 1969, following Woodstock, flower children were around before then.
As I said in my first post, it's a matter of semantics.

Odd that they were called Hippies in '67 then huh? -
that was the other Golden Girl

Not sure if I like this or not. On one hand I think this is an unnecessary idea. On the other hand I enjoyed visiting bases and see what they did to the place.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well it's purely optional... -
Good question. I guess wtihout getting into a huge "thing" the simple answer is:
Number of Players (across all servers, past and present) x Number of alts (existing & Deleted) -
I like that idea. How about something like the Paper/Radio misisons... where they respond in retaliation? You do 2 or three missions against them and then they attack you in your base?
-
Here's an idea.
You can use any base in your coalition if your coalition permits.
But for the most part, getting around Paragon or the Isles isn't exactly a challenge past level 14, and once you've got the Ouroboros portal it's extremely easy. With Jetpacks available from level 5 and a purchasable Mission TP - clearly the Devs aren't too worried about us roaming all over the map. They are allowing us to move easily.
But if you're a lowbie (especially a new lowbie) it can still be tough to get around your favourite city.
Yet, ironically there's all these lovely bases which have all the TPs (and other facilities, Workshops, Medical bays etc) and pretty stuff. But only your SG, coalition buddies and the occasional random team mate gets to see it.
So my suggestion is that we have an optional "Open to the Public" button on the SG roster which allows anyone on your faction (ie red or blue) to gain access to your base. They could then use your TP, your med bay and even (optionally) your Workshops. It would generate traffic/interest in your base and SG and could even be used as a recruiting advert. -

In the 60s, I'd have been a mod - not a hippie. I'd have been a hippie in the 70s.
Grr, semantics.
[/ QUOTE ]
The Hippy movement began in 1966, but came to prominence in 1967, the so-called "Summer of Love" and gained even more notoriety with the Woodstock Festival - hence the "Summer of '69"
Mods, on the other hand, are parka wearing wallies who ride underpowered hairdryers and have targets on their back so that everyone knows where to aimOh and they were popular from 1964-68
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes, I know what they are and where and when they originated. I have parents, y'know.
It took at least a year or two for the hippie movement to make its way across the Atlantic, hippies were at their most popular here during the mid-70s.
Also, flower child =/= hippie.
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually they were well entrenched in the late 60s.
You have parents.

I think you failed. If you want to appear impartial, try to avoid (innacurate) phrases such as "the Cold War - a war artificially conceived in the USA."

No... 'Neuromancer' was written a good 20 years ago (1986, according to Amazon) and that features a very powerful econo-military Eastern block based around China. So, 20 years ago it was entirely forseeable that China would become an economic superpower.
[/ QUOTE ]
So was Chung Quo (1989) but this isn't a doctrinal thesis, so I wasn't quoting every source with references, sorry chum. But I don't think too many people expected the rise of India to be so sudden either. Roosevelt (FDR not Teddy) also said in around 1943 that it would be problematic to tick off "a billion asiatics." But your point doesn't invalidate mine.
[ QUOTE ]
Indeed, taking your ST:TOS as a reflection of its time analogy, you seem to be ignoring the Romulans. If the Federation is America and the Klingons are the Soviet Block, then the Romulans are probably the Chinese, a secretive, reclusive, but very powerful force waiting to become more powerful yet.

If... So what would that make the Vulcans?

Which pretty adequately expresses the general nature of things after the Second World War responsible for the appearence of sci-fi (pulp mainly) and comic books. People are always coming out with phrases like 'brave new world' and 'new age laden with expectation' and, strangely enough, there isn't anything to expect, and the world isn't new or brave.
[/ QUOTE ]
Huxley published Brave New World in 1932, a direct distillation of Sir Thomas Moore's Utiopian ideology, written in 1516, so considerably pre-WWII. Other Sci-Fi notables of that era include EE "Doc" Smith and Robert E Howard. The Pulp you refer to was primarily pre-WWII with the Golden Age of Comics coming at roughly the same time... Batman, 1938, Superman 1939 and Captain America 1941 (pre-Pearl Harbour) so technically all of those are before WWII.
[ QUOTE ]
That won't mean a game re-write, but it's bound to reflect itself in the allegorical game we love so much.

[ QUOTE ]
Given that the basic background of CoH is more derived from Gold and Silver Age comics, from that last 'brave new world' that wasn't, I'd say that if you're right (and it's a new millenium, so 'the future's so bright, we need shades') then the world has caught up with CoH and there's no real need for a background change at all.
[/ QUOTE ]
I wasn't proposing a background change. I was asking "What now?" -
Actually with great enough power comes the ability to make the rules -

In the same way that, for example. "Star Trek" (Original series especially) reflected its time, I believe that CoX also reflects its time in many ways and a wealth of resource material has evolved over the last five years to reflect the age in which we live now.
Comic books also do that, some might say "in extremis" and are a black and white microcosm of how society feels about itself on any given day, so it's no wonder that City Of... reflects the perception of those who create it, Developers & Players alike.
But we're about to enter a new age, one laden with expectation. (Arguably, a level of expectation no single man should have to bear.) I just wonder how that will affect the direction of the game we love so much over the coming years.
The Western World - for want of a better phrase - has always punched above its weight, and superheroes are arguably a manifestation of that. I'm considerably older than the average MMO player I'd bet but I grew up at the height of the Cold War - a war artificially conceived in the USA, but one which ended up holding America and the rest of the west, hostage to paranoia. That reflected itself in comicbooks and TV with the protagonist's foe wielding far greater power than the hero of the tale, but succumbing to the hero and his righteous cause.
The last decade or so has resulted in the USA and its western Allies being seen as "the bete noir" of much of the rest of the world - unintentionally I might add.
But now there's a new world order.
The first decade of the 21st century begins to wind down with two eastern powers beginning to flex economic and political muscle unbelievable 20 years previously, the world financial system flushing down the gutter and and as radical change you can imagine in the White House.
That won't mean a game re-write, but it's bound to reflect itself in the allegorical game we love so much. The real question is... How?
Thoughts?
(Disclaimer: this is not a political post but I've tried to be impartial in putting the game in it's historical context.) -
