Open House Bases?
Not sure if I like this or not. On one hand I think this is an unnecessary idea. On the other hand I enjoyed visiting bases and see what they did to the place.

Well it's purely optional...

Problem is i don't think it serves much purpose. After all traveling around is quite easy. It also would require developers time which i think could be better spend elsewhere. Plus the idea of an SG base as tourist attraction? Not to mention the question why bother making your own sg base when team x made that handy dandy one you can use?
No, in the end I think I don't like the idea that much.

Mainly for the bases of SGs that are *designed* to be public, such as the Fourth Wall bar, Somewhere In Paragon, and suchnot. The irony of those groups is that they are NOT public, you need a coalition to enter the base. Also, What would be nice is some sort of Central Teleport Hub.
More use in Heroes, that one. I mean, come on, who here finds having to use the two monorails *fun*? Hmm? Or getting to Faultline without a base teleport? Certain hazard zones too are swines to get to, which might well be one of the reasons for people simply not going to them, becuase the journey required SUCKS. And before people say 'Dont be lazy', some people dont like having to do a load of running around to get to the fun stuff, and Hero side does have far too much of having to hike about. Either they need to really comb the missions set in arcs so that people dont need to jog around so damned much, or they need to make access easier.
My Tuppence happeny worth. Still signed.
GG, I would tell you that "I am killing you with my mind", but I couldn't find an emoticon to properly express my sentiment.

Having played CoV to level 30, and CoH to level 50 three times, I'm convinced that CoV is almost as bad as CoH for making you run all over the place, that most of the CoV zones are a lot more annoying to get around than their CoH counterparts, and that while I don't get as many "go three zones away" missions in CoV, you could probably make a profit betting that consecutive missions in the same zone will be at opposite ends of it.
Still, back to the proposal: It's a cool idea and I'd like it if it happened, but I don't think it should be a high priority.
DCUO and CO will never see my money. The Citygame will keep seeing my money for as long as I keep enjoying it

Its not a bad idea, but like you say the game becomes alot simpler on and after lvl14 and the time it takes and the amount you actually have to traverse the zones to reach lvl14+ is not very much. Im not saying everyone plays the same or that i lvl fast myself or anything anymore .. but i know what it was like for me as a new player it was exciting and i wanted to get as many lvls under my belt at any sitting. Plus being a new gamer you wouldnt know about these public SG bases from the off, and quite possibly would be in another SG with all the main facilities by the time your ad was heard shouting across Atlas.
Like i say i think it IS a good idea And even better for the community help that you are promoting!
worst part of "go here, do that", is when you get a new contact from one person, and go to another zone to see them, then the first mission they give you is to go to another zone altogether.
@craggy see me on Union for TFs, SFs (please!) or just some good ol fashioned teaming.

This. The prime example is Jose Brogan who, after foot slogging all the way too him (it takes much longer at low lvls...) he then sends you off to see Winscott in the Hollows...Joy of joys. Badly thought out, IMO.

any second contact on blue side(within the level range) actually, not just Jose Brogan.

Like the sound of that. I would like some way of keeping parts of the base private.
Necrobond - 50 BS/Inv Scrapper made in I1
Rickar - 50 Bots/FF Mastermind
Anti-Muon - 42 Warshade
Ivory Sicarius - 45 Crab Spider
Aber ja, natrlich Hans nass ist, er steht unter einem Wasserfall.
I'm giving this a /half-signed. *shock and horror*
Why? On the one hand, do you ever see in comic books that while x supergroup/team are in their HQ planning their next activity/mission, another hero/villain from another supergroup/team walks in and plays about with what ever equipment's in?
But this is also extremely useful for the low levels.
Personally, I'd rather see the low level contacts drop the "go there, talk to him, come back, go there, beat up them" thing.

Quite often. Matt Murdock and Spidey are often seen around the Baxter Building for example, and before Avengers Mansion got trashed Jarvis was often attending to the needs of guests/casual visitors/heroes in need etc.

Yeah, but it's still not often, or quite often, as you put it.

It happens, though. Marvel especially seems to have a lot of people dropping by each others/sharing bases.
The thing is, its an option for them. It aint for us no fair! Heh

Look at it from another view. Look at is a challenge, rather than an annoyance.
Look at it this way...if your coalitions had all these TPers and you're SG didn't, and this feature was implemented, wouldn't it making the TPers in your SG base a waste of time? Or wouldn't it suggest to make a SG work harder to get them?
Don't you think that 'no using stuff in coalition bases' is there for a reason?
Except you CAN use TPers in coalition bases....

I can see a possible issue with the base portal screen getting too long to manage.
One possible alternative solution, would be to add the option of letting coalition members bring their team into to base, like we have the option of having sg-members bring their team members into the base.
It's not much fun waiting for someone to walk across 3 zones, when you've used a coalition base to travel quickly and safely to the destination.
i have to say, i like the original idea posted here. Bases are generally under appreciated for all the work that goes into some, and this suggestion would open up the community a bit. I mean, at the end of the day, we are all real life people who are curious and want to see stuff and maybe socialise a little too, not actual heroes or villains concermned for our anonymity, protecting our secret identities...
but i mainly like the idea of lowbies who might also be new to the game being able to see bases and if they see one they like they might bump into an sg member and get chatting about possibly joining.
If you want to be a total purist about it you could limit the visiting rights to just that, so that no tp, or medibay (the base tp list could get too long granted) fascilities, just visiting rights to have a look and the exit via the base entrance when done.
i cant see why any of this would be a bad thing if its optional.

It can be pretty annoying when you've put a lot of hard work sprucing up your base only to have a select group of people see it.
Would also save people the hassle of traveling to so many contacts for one mission blueside
how about a compromise solution ?
you can set rooms in your base to be publicly accessible (to set any area other than the TP room as public, you have to have a path available to the main base entrance or TP room so players dont get trapped).
any corridors or rooms bordering the public area suddenly grow doors that only allow SG members to pass (public can look in as a sg member goes through but they cant pass the threshold).
this way, the base is shown to the general public, can be a useful transit/hospital point and the Sg still has areas for SG use only!

Why do we need a compromise solution?
A solution that by the looks of it is less easy to administer than just having a flag to switch on/off the base as public.
Allow a flag to switch on public access (or as there is no UI for base options as yet, make an item that allows it.
Though TBH I don't quite see how you choose one from the thousands that would be available.
I am not that fond of strangers visiting my base.. I would love to be able to use my base as MA map though...
- The Italian Job: The Godfather Returns #1151
Beginner - Encounter a renewed age for the Mook and the Family when Emile Marcone escapes from the Zig!
- Along Came a... Bug!? #528482
Average - A new race of aliens arrives on Earth. And Vanguard has you investigate them!
- The Court of the Blood Countess: The Rise of the Blood Countess #3805
Advanced - Go back in time and witness the birth of a vampire. Follow her to key moments in her life in order to stop her! A story of intrigue, drama and horror! Blood & Violence... not recommend to solo!

Here's an idea.
You can use any base in your coalition if your coalition permits.
But for the most part, getting around Paragon or the Isles isn't exactly a challenge past level 14, and once you've got the Ouroboros portal it's extremely easy. With Jetpacks available from level 5 and a purchasable Mission TP - clearly the Devs aren't too worried about us roaming all over the map. They are allowing us to move easily.
But if you're a lowbie (especially a new lowbie) it can still be tough to get around your favourite city.
Yet, ironically there's all these lovely bases which have all the TPs (and other facilities, Workshops, Medical bays etc) and pretty stuff. But only your SG, coalition buddies and the occasional random team mate gets to see it.
So my suggestion is that we have an optional "Open to the Public" button on the SG roster which allows anyone on your faction (ie red or blue) to gain access to your base. They could then use your TP, your med bay and even (optionally) your Workshops. It would generate traffic/interest in your base and SG and could even be used as a recruiting advert.
