  1. We've gotten conflicting messages on the subject. BABs said he had nothing against just making our weapons simply appear in our hands in instances when we could use them immediately, but ran into technical difficulties. In a recent Ustream, however, Matt Miller said the bit about set balance, suggesting it's not just a matter of animation work.

Personally, I want to at least have my weapon NOT fade away if I don't use it for 10 seconds. I like to keep my weapons on weapon characters out all the time at least when I'm standing around and moving between missions, but they keep timing out.

I just want to point out that THIS is, if not THE worst mission in the entire game for me, then the second worst at least (second only to "Stop 30 Fir Bolg"). I hate this mission. I hate it with a passion. The only reason I can tolerate it at all is because I can usually snag the four glowies, then backtrack and kill everything on my way out once the mission is complete.

Since the beginning of the game, talk of non-combat missions has persisted, and I don't recall ever being a fan of it, at least not for the last few years. Not since I actually saw what those looked like here. Missions like the Praetorian "Get in and get out in under 120 seconds and you won't fight anything!" are bad, but the worst are missions like the continuing tutorial arcs' character introductions, which are essentially a point-and-click adventure. The Rikti Conference mission is kind of cute, but at least it ends up in a cool fight.

Now, combat missions with non-combat elements in them, that I can get behind, but entire instances that don't involve combat? Put it this way - I don't play City of Heroes to NOT fight things.
  3. I've never seen the point of Fog of War as being an obstruction (especially since what we have ISN'T fog of war), and rather see it as a record of locations I've visited and locations I have not. In this function, I actually rather enjoy having the fog, especially in indoor maps.

"Fog of War" can trace its origins in military terminology, where it refers an army's inability to know everything at all times. Someone once said that if you know where you are, where your enemies are and where your allies are, then you've already won half the battle. How it relates to gaming is through strategy games, where the player is only able to observe areas directly adjacent to his own units, and when units move away from an explored area, that area becomes covered in "fog of war."

We don't really have that in City of Heroes, as once a location is explored, it is explored and visible forever, barring the next bug that messes that up.
  4. I really didn't think there was room for argument here.

I say put the pieces on the Market, price them as a full costume set and let people decide what they want to buy.

Put it this way - I'd buy them.

I agree. I've tried asking that on Ustream, but it always falls through the cracks. I want to see the Rularuu Weapons available for purchase in the Paragon Store. I'm not concerned with the price, I just want them in the store.

And the Roman gear, while we're at it.

The City of Heroes text editor uses HTML "br" tags for new lines, I believe, and those don't copy out of the text box. Moreover, when copying text INTO the text box, the standard ASCII or UTF new line characters aren't parsed correctly. What this means is every time you post text to and from the game, you will lose all new line transitions.

    It's... Kind of unpleasant
  8. I don't have a problem with the Rulu Shin. They're not soldiers of Rularuu, because we've all seen what the ACTUAL Soldiers of Rularuu look like. The Rulu Shin is a sect worshipping something they don't understand, kind of like what the Geth are to the Reapers of Mass Effect fame. They're mutated humans who have a death wish, and while they may have access to some of Rularuu's toys, they're still just a misguided cult.

An abrupt end to a peaceful morning on patrol. Tony Vance was (removed "among") one of the few police officers to survive the Galaxy City disaster. Before he knew it, the city was torn apart before his eyes. His only home, gone within seconds. Officer Vance was tired. Tired of fighting day in(removed a comma) and day out, of protecting this city to just have it crushed in seconds. So he took action.

    New paragraph

While searching the abandoned police station for any weapons he could find, Tony came across a cache of confiscated villain equipment. The tech there was just what the officer needed to defend himself and fight his way out of Galaxy City. Finally, he searched the cell block for any prisoners left behind. After all he couldn't just let them die trapped in their cells. Tony promised to free them on the condition they followed his orders. Naturally they chose survival.

    New paragraph

After losing Galaxy City, officer Vance vowed to never let this happen again. "Heroes were put into place to protect us, but I refuse to stand back and not protect myself."

    ---

The yellow text is things I've changed, added or removed. Those are all just suggestions, and most of those are just for style. There was I think all of one actual typo. Also, the underlined text right at the end is very ambiguous. I can't understand what it's trying to say, so I don't really know what I can suggest to tighten it up, since I'll probably change the idea you were trying to convey.

Please, don't read my corrections as criticisms. I'm just suggesting these things

bAss, I'm sorry, but I will have to betray your side, because I LOVE THIS SWORD! Want! Nao!

Seriously, this is almost exactly what I've always wanted to have. The shape, the hilt, the split blade, the detailing. It's like you reached into my head and pulled out exactly what I was thinking... And I didn't even know I was thinking that. THIS is almost exactly the sword proportions I want to see out of Titanic Weapons. Granted, the hilt could be a little longer now that we've seen how wide the two-handed grip is, but it's still incredibly amazing.

    Thank you!

    Where did you find that?!?

What I'm suffering from the most is probably poor memory, as I honestly remembered the Buster Sword being longer. Or, possibly, I hadn't seen the swords in relation to a character, I'm not sure. However, I hold by my desire for a longer-bladed weapon. So what if it's already long enough to spear through people three rows deep. I want a sword that reaches the full 7 feet of my melee range

Actually, it turns out I DO have a few reference pics, courtesy of bAss_Ackwards and Misie from Vanguard Titanic Weapons thread:

Check out those weapons, and, hell, go ahead and give the thread a look, too. There are other good designs there. However, notice the proportions of those swords - they have a very long blade, much longer than it is wide, and a hilt just long enough to accommodate two hands. Granted, the hilt itself could probably stand to be somewhat longer with that grip, I don't deny it, but the length of the blade is what I'm mostly looking at, and the blades on both are LONG.

They don't necessarily have to be Vanguard weapons, but those are the proportions I want to see.

I suspect you may be thinking of Battle Maiden's "spear," which is more of a halberd and would be appropriate for this, I presume. Though, hey, if we want to modify Valkyrie's spear into a glave and use it like that, then I would have no issue with it. I was actually going to suggest something like that, but it felt like it would sidetrack the character. But, hey, give her a glave and go for it.

I've not seen the Staff Fighting leaked video, as that got taken down before I got to it, and if another one has come out, I haven't seen it. That, and I'm largely uninterested in staff fighting, so I haven't bothered.

However, if the animations work, then sure. Go for it. Animations are my primary issue, and if that's not an issue, then why not? However, I have to ask - a quarterstaff would technically be used to strike with either end. Would that not look a bit odd when done with a polearm with a blade only on one end?

Um... How does setting your hands on fire allow you to form fire swords and shoot fire from your mouth (or nose, as the animation suggests)?
  14. If they shot down the creation of a new Muscular Female body type, I'm pretty sure a hamster is well out of the question. And if it's not, I'll have a few things to say that might get me in trouble.

I don't question whether it would hurt or not - it would. However, like thrusting with the blunt end of a mace and hitting people with the pummel of your sword, that's not the primary strength of your weapon with a staff. It IS with a spear, however, as that's mostly what a spear does. Also, a proper spearing animation would need to pierce the enemy and come out the other side like what Dual Blades' blinding feint does, which isn't what a thrust attack would look like.

Like I said - if the animations end up matching up, then sure. I just don't think that this is the kind of set they're designing.

Heck, in that series she and Kilik (the pure staff fighter) share a significant portion of their moveset. Granted, I'm not sure how 'accurate' Seung Mina's moves are, but they've never looked like they didn't fit the weapon at all to me.
That's because what Mina is using is not a spear, but some kind of polearm. I'm not sure what kind, though I want to say "naginata," but the point is that hers has a slashing blade at the end.

Glave! That's what that is! Mina is using a glave, or more specifically a guan dao. It's a single-edged cutting blade mounted at the end of a pole which can be used for thrusting or splashing, hence why her animations emphasise slashing attacks. A spear is solely a thrusting weapon, which is why it always gets brought up. It does have cutting edges along its spear tip and I suppose you could try to slash with it, but it's really just not a slashing weapon.

Now, if we want to trade Valkyrie's spear for a glave or a halberd like Battle Maiden, then that might work.

That's the whole point. If we get a Titanic Weapon set and it DOESN'T have weapons so big it's silly, I'll consider it a complete and utter FAIL on Paragon Studios' part. We already have a wide selection of weapon types scattered around the various sets. If Titanic Weapons is just going to be bigger but still believable versions of the smaller but still believable sets, then this doesn't need to be a whole separate set. In order for Titanic Weapons to exist, they need to be not just big, they need to be TOO big. That's what it takes to justify making a brand new set.

For me, the ridiculously big weapons are the draw. I'm talking about things like the Cahoseater/Armageddon Blade from Darksiders, the Buster Sword from Final Fantasy, the sword form Berserk and more of this nature. If it's not silly, then they haven't made it big enough.

I'm not saying you can't use the spear as a staff - it IS a staff with a spear tip on one end. I'm saying you can't use the staff as a spear for lack of a spear tip. If they're designing a Staff Fighting set, they will design it without piercing thrusts, therefore using it with a weapon with a spear head would just look awkward when you can't actually use the weapon at the end of your pole.

Though I guess if no-one is bothered by Valkyrie using a spear she never spears enemies with, I have no argument.

That's really what bugs me the most. I can deal with changes to lore and even unashamed ret-cons (like Praetoria) as long as it feels like it's an intentional, aware change. A lot of the problems we're discussing here don't at all feel like the writer wanted to change canon. It much more feels like the writer simply DO NOT KNOW. That's not room for creativity. That's simply not doing your research.

And yet look at the proportion of hilt-to-blade on what you posted, then go back and look at the proportion on the screenshot. Your screenshot is about 1:3.something, while the in-game screenshot is closer to 1:1.2something.

I also have to disagree with Titanic Weapons looking "realistic." We have enough realistically-proportioned weapons in the game. The point of having this set is to have absurdly oversized weapons, even if they look impossible to wield. I'm sure there's something to be said about weight balance, but the fact of the matter is I want a sword with a long, thick blade. What's on the picture is more than thick enough, but as it stands right now, the Legacy Broadsword has a longer blade and, therefore, a longer reach.

I maintain that that hilt length is good, but I want to see weapons with longer blades by quite a bit. I also maintain that I want to see a sword with a blade as wide as my character is at the shoulders and as long as my character is tall at least up to the neck, with any hilt beyond that sticking above my character's head. Because that's what the original Buster Sword in that one teaser pic we got months and months ago looked like. It had a much different hilt-to-blade ratio. I can't find the screenshot to comment on it now, but it wasn't anywhere near as close to being 1:1.

Spears are solely and only thrusting weapons. There's no point in swinging a spear around to scratch your enemies with, because it's not a slashing weapon. A staff has no piercing point on either end and is, instead, more of a swinging weapon. I can't imagine a fighting style that would fit both without looking silly.

Not to mention that "a spear" isn't really a two-handed weapon unless it's a pike, which isn't really a melee weapon, not for a lone combatant, anyway. Now, if we're talking halberds and polearms like what Battle Maiden has, that I could see, but that's not what Valkyrie has.

I'm not saying that I don't want either of the two revamped - I do. I just don't think it's safe to assume that Staff Fighting (if and when that comes out) will be at all compatible with spear-type weapons or even basic polearms any more so than it would be compatible with two-handed axes and hammers. In much the same way, Titanic Weapons are defined as a weapon that's part hilt, part body, rather than a long-shaft weapon.

I know the word "dark" is in the name for some sets but that doesn't mean there can't be a "bright" version. For example... Soul Tentacles from the Soul Mastery set is a Bright version of Tenebrous Tentacles and it looks awesome! What I wouldnt give to make a dark character that looks ethereal or ectoplasmic using "bright" versions of those powers!
Dark Melee and Dark Armour are a bit of a special case. Dark Armour in particular is a combination of additive and subtractive effects, such that if you reduced it to JUST one or JUST the other, the set's look would change dramatically. I highly suspect that's the reason Dark and Pain only have one option - their default effects were using a combination of both.

I have no idea why Strom Summoning received such a limited selection of colours, though. Essentially, the most you can do is slightly tinted white with those sets. Both Ice and Earth were given a limited selection of colours because, if I read BABs right, other colours ended up making them look like "cartoony gems." There was this whole theory that the developers didn't want yellow ice which I never bought, but there was something to do with the aesthetics of Earth and Ice when used outside of the limited pallets they're given.

Personally, I feel that all of these should be given the full range of power customization, even if their customizable variants ended up looking radically different from the powers, themselves. Obviously, that's up to Tunnel Rat to decide, but I'd still like to at least suggest it.

As far as Duray is aware, he's working with Tyrone Lockheart on creating a new Vigilance unit to carry out "dirty" jobs for the US government and that he's using Lockheart Aerotech as a front. That Tyrone is actually a Nemesis agent and that Lockheart is actually a Nemesis front isn't something any of the Sky Raiders know, which is a point that The Eternal Nemesis arc makes about mid-way through.
