Down with Fog of War!

I'm sure this has been brought up before. But I'm bringing it up again.

Fog of war just needs to go. Why?

What's the point of it?

What kind of superheroes with magic powers, state of the art technology, etc, etc, can't read a damn map? Will our contacts really send us to a neighborhood we've never been to with out an accurate as possible map?

Also, it's broken most of the time anyway.

I'm sure there are more reasons to see it go and I'm sure there are reasons to keep it (I can't think of any), but just my opinion and suggestion.

There's some power I have that I"m not sure how I got that allows me to just remove the fog of war from a map. So, yeah, you could use that.

Fog of War *does* serve a use, however: It allows me to better determine where I have, or have not, been on a map. This is useful when I'm in a mission and have to find all the things or defeat all the people. I can quickly determine the faded part of the map as somewhere I haven't been yet, and logically assume that the completion of my task lies in that direction.

So no, don't get rid of Fog of War.

Some people actually use it to have a history of where they have and haven't gone on a map. I'm not usually one of those people, but I know some people like that.

I admit as long as it keeps breaking every couple of Issues it's proving to be somewhat annoying in general. But if the Devs could ever get it working and keep it working then I see no reason to change it on purpose.

I don't mind it on Mission Maps. Otherwise I lose track of where I've been.

On Zone maps, however, I find it incredibly pointless.
I also object to zones like Striga. I mean, dear lord I'm pretty damn sure someone's mapped that by now. Starting out with NOTHING, not even the damn Trainer, is a joke. And it's not a very good one, either.

Can't agree to removing it on out-door zones either, as it allows me to keep track of what badges I've gotten when I'm in a zone for the first time on a new character.

One of the updates not long ago refogged the maps for most of my toons. Not really an issue anymore as I have reveal, but still, I did like having those clear trails showing where I had been.

I've never seen the point of Fog of War as being an obstruction (especially since what we have ISN'T fog of war), and rather see it as a record of locations I've visited and locations I have not. In this function, I actually rather enjoy having the fog, especially in indoor maps.

"Fog of War" can trace its origins in military terminology, where it refers an army's inability to know everything at all times. Someone once said that if you know where you are, where your enemies are and where your allies are, then you've already won half the battle. How it relates to gaming is through strategy games, where the player is only able to observe areas directly adjacent to his own units, and when units move away from an explored area, that area becomes covered in "fog of war."

We don't really have that in City of Heroes, as once a location is explored, it is explored and visible forever, barring the next bug that messes that up.
