Quote:Is this a joke?? While the recharge is longer, the duration of the power is much longer in return. Not to mention it has the potential for more damage bonus and tohit buff. AND, it does some damage on top of that.Anyone else out there think they should changed DM's Souldrain unto Build-up? Like they did for stalkers. Would more people actually play them then?
And I'm not sure it's possible to get people playing it more than they already do. Seems a pretty popular set right now. -
Quote:It's funny, I was just thinking that would be the case. That, and the prices would be way up there for a while.I'm certainly waiting...with popcorn ^_^. (Okay, that wasn't fair
.)
When Fermi is introduced, it will be in the high-end of the market. It would be several months more at least until a mainstream model (competing with the 5750 and 5770) showed up.
I'm seriously considering this card, unless someone convinces me there's a better option.

Quote:Thanks for the input everyone. I'll be looking into a 5770 for the time being. The fact that the PSU wouldn't have to be replaced helps. Though, a small part of me wonders if I should bother waiting around for Fermi to see what happens there.Rylas, I was in the same boat (all my cards since 2003 have been NVIDIA cards), until a couple of months ago I had two NVIDIA cards fail on me and I waited a month for my distributor to get me a replacement (and in the end they couldn't; NVIDIA is making the cards scarce). I bought a Radeon HD 5770.
Yes, there are minor issues with COH. You're going to need to mess with the Catalyst Control Center in order to have FSAA back in COH. However, once I got past that, I'm really happy with the performance of the card, and it DOES run quieter and cooler than the GTX 260.
In Windows XP you'll have a few issues that a new driver should fix (the COH loading screens get corrupted if you alt-tab out of the game; doesn't affect the game at all, just the loading screens) and in Windows 7 you also have a few issues that are probably Aero's fault and would appear on a NVIDIA card anyway (I dumped Windows 7 last night and went back to XP, and they're gone).
If you don't miss messing with the Catalyst Control Center a bit, the 5770 is an excellent buy. -
Cool link. I didn't realize you could change font size. But it doesn't say whether or not you can change font size more than once in a given chat bubble.
-
What about the GTX 275? According to the chart, it would have quite a bit of performance over the 5770. I've had unpleasant experience with ATI in the past, so I'm dubious of going that route. Sure, I'd need to upgrade my PSU, but the power requirement isn't that much more than what I use now.
-
I'm trying to see if there's a good upgrade option worth the investment from my nVidia GeForce 8600 GT. My main reasons for wanting to upgrade is so I can be ready for Going Rogue when it comes out. I know system requirements for the new graphics haven't been listed yet, but I'm sure the higher end cards out at the moment would suffice.
My current specs are:
Dual Core E6750 @ 2.66GHz
3GB RAM DDR3 1066
PSU - 500W ATX12V V2.01
I know I may need to upgrade the PSU, but currently what I'm looking for is a good GFX card suggestion. I was thinking of the GTS 250, but I'm not sure how much better my FPS would be from that. Any ideas? -
Quote:I smell a good Penthouse Letter in the making!Hey OP,
Does your new girlfriend have to be single? I'm 45, non-smoking, have six cats, no kids, play on Infinity, and have been happily married for 23 years. I generally prefer to play melee, but do dabble in Blasters and Controllers. Not much into redside, though I have recently found some charm in my newest alt, a ninja/ninjitsu stalker.
Mr. Tealeaf doesn't visit the forums, so no need to fear his wrath! And we can even get him to join our team. He tends to favor playing tankers.
Edit: I just read through the thread, and saw your second post saying that you're in LA. I grew up in Santa Clarita, but now live in De Soto, MO, pop. ~6000. I realize that 2000 miles might be a bit of con, but did I mention that I am a non-smoker? Plus, I make killer pot roast and meatloaf. Just saying. -
Finduilas, I'll do you one better and make it a 4 slotting of erads for more HP as well. The left over extra slot is now in Stamina for a little more recovery (about .1 end/sec). The OP can slot WA and Pendulum as I've done Cleave, or go for the end discount. It's all on preference at that point.
Rangle, the OP can certainly go that route if they like. In my opinion, .03 end/sec won't be noticed, which is why I didn't bother. But there's certainly no harm in it.

Well, the power choices vary from the OP's, but this run's at nearly 40% S/L defense and has 122% Max HP. Get your accolades, and that can be 142%. Those two things plus resists will make you pretty darn tough to kill. And with a heal on top of that, you should be untouchable in most every situation.
Oh, and enhancement values on your powers have not been sacrificed.

Quote:Just another thing to consider: What about purple sets? Wouldn't you be negating the whole purpose of those sets?In a discussion with several other CoH/CoV players that I've been playing with over the years, we're looking for ways to keep the game fresh and keep interest going. We were having a conversation about the possible downfalls to the Mission Architect system that players could exploit to powerlevel and miss the enjoyment and whole point of the game, and then the discussion turned to what happens to players when they get characters to level 50. We propose that in order to avoid, frankly, the "let-down" when you hit 50, that characters that have achieved level 50 get a certain amount of playtime and then move off to "retirement" or become "figureheads" or "paradigms" of some sort and are automatically retired, inspiring players to create new characters again. Of course, there would be special bonuses when heroes or villains do retire to new characters that are created, and be badges for retiring X amount of heroes/villains or a complete suite of archetypes. This incentive to move on and keep the game fresh would greatly enhance the continued playability of the game in the same way that the frequent emphasis to prevent powerleveling keeps the game world vibrant and dynamic. I'd like to see one of the game developers comment on this suggestion. Thanks!
And what happens if people just decline XP at level 49? The "problem" you think exists wouldn't be resolved.
Also, paragraph breaks. Use them. Please! -

What about a WP/EM tank (or brute with the help of GR) and turning EM to a more "psy color". AND you could drop a bunch of Perfect Zinger procs in for actual Psi damage!! Would be easier to RP in my opinion.

Great googely moogly! Can you post the build!?
-
My Elec/Stone has 30% defense to S/L, and I hardly need to fire off Energize. Of course, I primarily focused on +HP and have him at 2700 health. So, you're experience may vary.
-
Quote:It's beneficial because I don't use the Fighting Pool for my Ice/EM. Hence, only a power selection is taken, and not 3. And extra slots for other powers. My other Ice/ has capped without the use of the Fighting pool. What may be beneficial for you, may not be beneficial for others, and vice-versa. There's no need to act like there's only one way to build a tank. And certainly no need to feel offended by others' use of powers.
Also, Fire res on my Ice/EM is around 45%. So, you can see how the mileage varies for everyone.
[edit] Also, next time you post screencaps, you may want to put them at a higher res. I know what you're trying to show, but for I couldn't ready anything. -
Quote:Permafrost may be skippable, but the power has a lot of decent things to offer. Fire Res, which you'll be in need of, and -rech/-slow resist, which can greatly benefit you (especially in Caltrop fanatic situations). Add in the 3% def if you slot it with Steadfast, and you're making it even better. So with all my Armors, Energy Absorption, Combat Jumping and that Steadfast IO , one can reach the soft cap ? I thought Weave was almost required.
Just curious but how many enemies must you hit with EA to be softcapped on your build ?
I am also kinda reluctant to use the Steadfast IO in Hoarfrost. Since it is my main heal, I figured I needed all six slots to enhance the heal and recharge. If placing the Steadfast IO in Hoarfrost is the most logical thing to do, can you dispell my doubts please.
Now, if you just want to skip it outright, then 5-slot Doctored Wounds into Hoarfrost and use the 6th slot for the 3% def. You may not have ED-capped heal and recharge, but it will be close.
(Oh, and good choice with Ice/EM **points at avatar**) -
How about a second build you can work Hasten into? That's the problem if you insist on sticking strictly to concept: You have to accept the self-imposed limits they might present.

Another good artist is Nate Van ****. (not posting a link this time due to not having been aware of the 2-Click rule, nor can I find it in the rules and guidelines) Just google him, he's the first name that pops up.
Just out of curiosity, can a Red Name confirm if that was some of his art in the Hero Con images I've seen?

A nice fun way to earn up Merits while not feeling like you farmed for it is to go for the Task Force Commander Accolade. It's 282 Merits and you get an accolade!
