  1. I think a lot of it is also tongue-in-cheek. Old Spice's commercials are so over the top, it's more for the comedic impact than it is for "making it manly." Same as the Dos X's commercials.

No one really thinks it's making you manly. Not even the people selling the product think you're really going to believe it. But they want to sell the "attitude" of their product, and poke a little fun at themselves as well.

Look at SlimJims. They have a market. Do you really see hot chicks scarfing down fake beef jerky on a regular basis? I know I don't. So it only makes sense to play up to the people who are really buying the product. More men drink beer than women, so it suits Budweiser to sell to men. If you don't think it makes sense, just think about the number of times you've seen Maxipad commercials aimed at men. Advertising to your market just makes the most sense.

Now, there are a few companies that really believe they're product makes you manlier, but they've been drinking from their own kool-aid for too long. But I don't find them to be the majority, or "the trend."

Hate to tell you, PL'ing via farming, is - by its very definition - an exploit. Earning any form of reward at a rate higher than intended by the designer of a system is an exploit. I can provide dictionary definitions for you to solidfy that point but that would rude, don't you think?
Ooooooooh. Sarcastic orange. I'll make a note of that in the future.

In the meantime, PLing is still not the same as exploiting. It's nice you'd like to shoe horn it into being so, but all your rhetoric does nothing. If I invite someone to my team, set it for +4, x8 (because I'm IO'd to ridiculous efficiency) and then earn them XP at faster rates, guess what, I'm doing so within the confines the Devs have established for me and my teammates. And that's not even stepping into the AE.

Just because you don't approve of it yourself, doesn't make it wrong. LRN2PLAY without caring so much about how others do it.

    Invincible?

Everyone's ranting over Inv and WP, but I have to say, if IO's are being used, then Elec or DA is the way to go. Substantial resist numbers and great heals with IO defense bonuses? Yes please!

My Elec/Stone tank is built to 45% S/L defense. His green bar? Never moves. This is his performance on many TFs and with many enemy groups. More often than not, I pop Energize for the endurance discount.

My DA/Ice/Earth tank is built for 45% S/L/E/N. Again, I never watch my health. You said you weren't worried about damage? Well is this the tank for you! Massive crowd control from the two sets. What I can't get because of aggro cap, I can slow down with -speed and KD powers.
  4. I started a Claws/Regen brute in hopes of Regen having better performance. I rerolled him after 30 levels to be Claws/WP.

Regen needs some overhaul before it can be considered a solid set again, IMO. What that is, I'm not sure. Boosting Resilience's numbers? Shortening the recharge of heal powers? Maybe making Instant Healing a toggle again with slightly lower regen numbers? As it stands, any buff to the set would be strongly welcome.

    1. Farming in general - not just AE - in the sense of PLing is (or at least used to be) detrimental to the game because it leads to the potential of creating lvl 50 players that have absolutely no idea how to play their toon and therefore cause a lot of grief on trials and TFs and teams in general. You see it a lot - a person PL'ers their emp def and then when they run a TF at lvl 50 their idea of "healing the group" is auto-clicking Heal Aura and putting the tank on follow. That's not healing, that's not playing your defender properly. The point of spending the average of 80-100 hours lvling to lvl 50 is to learn how to actually play the powersets you've chosen. It's called experience for a reason. So farming XP in AE or any other mission to PL potentially creates a lot of lvl 50s that are worse teammates than a lvl 1 "noob".

Now this is somewhat obsolete in the fact that a large amount of PLers nowadays are people who have played various powersets and characters and have multiple 50s and understand the game - and are simply just lazy and don't feel like working up to 50 the traditional way. There is a whole debate within a debate about whether or not that mentality has merit but that is neither here nor there. BUT with the game now opening up to a wider market and potentially getting more players to upgrade to VIP and such, there is potential that a lot of new players could come in and see this PLing method and we could see a lot of high lvl "noobs". I've personally already teamed with a lvl 46 player that had just the rookie vet reward, and who stated he had only been in the game for a week. And needless to say his skill on the team was far less than impressive...

    2. The second answer is the cheesy canned answer but still the valid point for the devs. Farming, by its definition, does violate the intended route of the game's experience. XP is not meant to be earned at that rate. Inf and Prestige is not meant to be earned at that rate. Salvage is not meant to be that readily available on the market (economy 101 teaches us a little thing about the importance of supply and demand). And AE is not meant to produce farming, it's meant to produce storytelling by the player-base. Now again, there are multiple debates within this debate on the merit of these claims, but the fact is the claim by the devs that "AE farming is not the intent of AE" is valid - as creators of the system they have the right to punish those that - whether rightfully or not - exploit their system to earn rewards at a rate not meant to be achieved.

I'm not taking a side on either of the points but the answer to why "farming is bad" really boils down to those topics. If you spend hours, months, days, and years developing a system with an intended rate of return and someone comes in and exploits it - whether its your fault in poor programming or not - you do have the right as the owner of the system to change things in an effort to realign the reward rate to the original intent of your design.
This is an elaborate 500+ word post that the poster could have wrapped their opinions into two concise statements:

    1) Play the game the way I prefer to play it, and if you prefer leveling faster than I do, or like to farm for drops, then you're doing it all wrong and you're hurting the game.

    2) I inaccurately define farming as exploiting.

    Thanks for your time.

Personally, I think the devs shouldn't squash the efficient ways people have come up with for PLing or farming. It's futile, really. There's always going to be something else that pops up. Eventually, you'll just strip down the system too much for it to be useable for anyone. As long as exploits aren't being used, then leave it alone.
  6. As mentioned, SD/DM has a good record for AV soloing. I've solo'd a couple on mine, you just need to make sure you have Soul Drain fodder handy.

I've solo'd Chimera with my Elec/Stone tank. But I think a large part of that was have Tier3 Reactive for some nice DPS boost.

These were all IO builds, of course.
  7. He's only to level 19, and I've determined that StJ is a Kick-A set. So once I made this realization, I decided to make a build for him. He's sitting at the 32.5% bench mark for S/L/E/N/F/C, with 64.5% HP boost (with accolades), 43% global rech, and his regen numbers look like this: 1 foe - 70 HPS, 5 foes - 90 HPS, 10 foes - 115 HPS.

My question is, can I make him better? Did I miss some extra HP, Regen, Def or Rech I can work into that without gimping my enhancement values?

What is this RiD continuity you speak of? I'm already intrigued by it.

I think the season finale was awesome! The back story they gave for Optimus and Megatron sounds like it's almost following up the "War for Cybertron" conclusion. FYI, if you haven't played that game, you should. Does anyone else think that OP as a decipticon will play out like Dinobot from Beast Wars? Too driven by honor to stick around long.

    To the OP:

If what the time traveler says is true, then I don't have to worry about stopping him from killing me. Whatever happens, happens. The would-be assassin would fail no matter what. His failed attempt would more than likely send me on the path of destruction he intended to keep me from.

In the end, I wouldn't try to avoid the future. What's to say in my pursuit of making the future better, that I don't inadvertently unleash the world's doom?

I don't necessarily have to become a "villain" either. Maybe by others' opinions I'd be regarded as a villain, but I'd just plan on living my life the way I have been. Day-to-day, one step at a time. If the end of the world is coming at my doing, I can't change it. In fact, I could spend the rest of my life handing out clothes to the needy, the future (if indeed the traveler was being honest) is going to come, no matter what.

    OBLIGATORY SPOILER ALERT:

    Great episode!

I wasn't expecting the ending we got. I figured the dear would have been how they found the girl (Rick's answered prayer) or that a zombie would be lunging out of the bushes for the kid. Instead, the deer shot a bullet out of its chest!!

Seriously, though, the writers were going to have to resolve the issue of kids aging too fast. Killing them off is the easier solution.

  13. I've scrolled through the last 4 pages of this forum and didn't see anything that looked related, so my apologies if I'm stating something that's already been discussed.

For the last couple of days, my friends and I have noticed a large disparity in AE ticket drops between the person to have formed the team, and the rest of the team members.

    Person A invites Persons B, C & D.
Team runs an AE story arc and the mission bonus at the end look like this:
    Person A - 659 Tickets
    Person B - 230 Tickets
    Person C - 159 Tickets
    Person D - 192 Tickets

After tickets ratios staying constant like this, Person A passes the star to Person B.
The team runs the same arc with a newly promoted leader and mission bonuses look the same.

Then, Person B kicks Person A and re-invites Person A back. Person B keeps the star.
Ticket bonuses now look like this:
    Person A - 198 Tickets
    Person B - 637 Tickets
    Person C - 132 Tickets
    Person D - 191 Tickets

Alternating who creates the team has consistently shown that they will receive more tickets from AE. It might be whoever has done the most recent inviting to the team, but we haven't done thorough testing on this.

So, is this intentional? I wouldn't think so since there's no rational reason to reward differently. Or is this a bug?

Most of the time I am lucky if I get 400 tickets. Why is she constantly getting more tickets in the same mission I am in then me? Is there a setting somewhere I don't have checked or something?
My friends and I have noticed that the person to create the team (not necessarily the current team leader) tends to get more ticket drops than everyone else. Probably a new bug. It's best to alternate between story arcs by having you invite your wife to a team, and on every other arc, she invites you to a team. We've used this method to even out the drops with fairly consistent success.

Double negative isn't not confusing me, nope.

In all fairness, the OP doesn't clearly give a timeline. It easily reads as "he found an available name", "searched the name", "found possible copy-right infringement" and "chose to use it anyway." I suppose he could have made the character with the name AND THEN found the copy-righted likeness, but it's not explicitly outlined as saying such.

Just caught this little bit of info. My Elec/Stone is only soft-capped to S/L, and he's been doing just fine in everything I've dragged him through.
  17. Well, it's on a Brute, but I have SS/Elec and he's been nigh unkillable. Keep in mind, he was built for perma-hasten. But he doesn't have any defense of worth. After getting tier 4 rebirth, he became in sturdier. So on a tank, I imagine you'll be coasting through content laughing at most mobs.

Now, I do have an Elec/Stone tank with 45% S/L defense. His green bar barely ever moves. And after getting about 50% global recharge with Interface at tier 3, he's solo'd Chimera (no pets or insp).
  18. Naming your character Zerg, Zurg, Zirg, Zyrg or any other variant of spelling, is more than likely going to get your generic'd. You say you named it knowingly, so that doesn't help.

Now, if you've role played your character as something completely different, you may be ok. It just depends on the GM.

I will say this. I named a character once, leveled him into the 40s, and was then harassed by an over zealous player accusing me of ripping off a Teletubbie. I didn't realize it was a name used on the show, I had just named my Crab something ironic. I figured Tinkly Winkly would be a funny name to use on something with spider legs come out of its back. I told the player as much, but they piously told me they were reporting me. I thanked them for their time and told them I doubt I'll be contacted. I never was.

Sometimes, if you look and treat the character differently enough, a name can be overlooked. Or at least, that's my guess.
  19. Watched Part II this morning. Really love how this show has developed over the season. Simply great.

    Spoilers:

I do have to make one complaint though... Unicron as the reason the Earth formed? Gonna choose to overlook this, but I found it a bit... far fetched. Not to mention the implications that should have on humans and the questions that should naturally follow this bit of plot.

Such as; If Unicron sparked life on this planet, shouldn't Dark Energon has some kind of "good" effect on humans? Or how does a mechanical core create an organic planet?

Though, I do like the irony of Primus' planet being the dead one, and Unicron's planet being the one full of life.

    Negatives unique to the set:
    - the heal comes way too late
    - low resists that are better than /SR since they don't have to scale up

Negatives unique to the set that don't make a difference towards survival:
    - the Taunt aura is tied to the mez, I don't care but some people do.

    Positives:
    - extremely easy to soft cap, you can do it to s/l/e/f/c at 24 with a +3 steadfast and some cheap seats
    - Negative def cap does not require much more investment.
    - unlimited endurance after 28 with defense bonuses when you use Energy Drain
    - good taunt aura with a recharge bonus per foe
    - stealth that doesn't lower defense when in combat
    - if you like godmodes Overload is great because it gives +maxhp - I prefer Elec Armor's godmode but I find them the best ones since I have no problems handling crashes (just wished it left you with like 5 end so you didn't detoggle).
    - with the recharge bonus and lots of places for lotgs, you can build a lot of recharge along with capped defs, even cap negative later. And you'll end up with some ranged defense (20-25% maybe) to cover most psionics.
    - the passives now have some resist to slow and end drain
Made some clarifications and added a Positive for you.

Seriously, it's super easy to Soft-Cap all but Psi on /EA with very minimal cost (Mids Link below). If you IO your toons, then there's no reason for you to have trouble with /EA. Sprinkle Energy Drain on top of that, and you'll be good for a lot of incarnate trials too.

Keep in mind, this build was for getting recharge bonuses as well, but if you cut out all but the defense bonus sets, you'll see how much liberty you have with the build.

The man set out to change the way music was heard/bought/experienced by everyone. And he did it. The two skulls are in the background of this pic of me mining giant diamonds out of Lusca. Which sorta makes their calmness even more odd.

All in all, it was a super fun event! A lot of great laughs, and some awesome moments! And to top it off, I won a couple of enhancements from Pep and picked up 20+ Reward Merits to boot.

Just a little nit-pick, so please forgive me. The 3.75% melee bonus is not relevant. When checking against a Defense, the game checks against the highest applicable defense number. Since you're characters numbers are so much higher on the Damage Defense, you're melee defense wouldn't be worth much, if anything. Maybe if you're going up against some Psionic Melee attacks... but I can't think of any in the game.
