The reasoning behind this stems from a few things. Most of your "best" typed defensive bonuses show up with the 3 or 4th slot. (there might be a few that show at 5 slots that I'm not thinking of at the moment) Where as most of the "best" positional defensive bonuses show up with the 5-6th slot. (yes there are some exceptions to this.) So I find it easier to manage the slots on a build if I focus on typed vs. positional.

  2. I'm going to vouch for going Defense bonuses. You don't have to get the S/L soft-cap, but it will make you insanely sturdy. Getting 32.5% Defense to S/L will be sufficient enough. You'll notice an increase in survival just with that. And it's one small purple away from being the soft-cap.

Pick up Weave and CJ, slot all your resist toggles with 4 Reactive Armors, get taunt 4-slotted with Mocking Beratement, and if you can afford it, 4-slot Kinetic Combats as much as you can. If you can't afford those, Smashing Haymakers will have to do. That plus your 3% def IO will get you off to a good start. Find IO sets that give S/L def first (not Melee), or you'll waste slots.

Then, once you've got to the respectable amount of defense you want, grab recharge bonuses. 6-slotting Mocking Beratement in taunt only costs 2 more slots and gives a good recharge bonus. The faster you have Healing Flames up, the better.

Grab the accolades. Atlas, Phalanx, Portal Jockey and Task Force. 20% HP bonus is huge on a tank. It's effectively like adding more resist on top of your character.

Lastly, and this is important, don't sacrifice enhancement bonus just for set bonuses. There's no point becoming more durable if you're under-slotting damage, accuracy and endurance on your attacks and toggles.

Oh, and post your build when you come up with one. That's the best way to find out what improvements you might have missed.

Well, in his defense, he did really like Smallville, even long after it stopped being good. Despite the lack of plausibility or continuity in its writing. And its atrocious dialogue.
  5. Watched the movie this past weekend and enjoyed it. While I agree, have Micheal missing for the entirety of the movie was a bit disappointing, the action didn't seem to suffer for it. Also... Kate Beckinsale.

Not all of the preview has the shaky cam going on. So I'm not sure the whole film will be that way. I think it might be more like District 9 than Cloverfield.

  8. Should be about as bad as Smallville from seasons 5-10.
  9. So Fire/ but not /SS.

    My suggestions would be this:

    /Fire or /Elec

Fire/Fire will probably put out more, and if you're worried about speed numbers more than anything else, go with that. But I have an Elec/Fire brute, and it's just fun all around.

Fire/Elec/Pyre could be quite nice. Pick up the Spectral Interface for added Negative damage, and you'll have quite a hefty mixture of exotic damage.

Fiery Embrace + Burn + Lightning Rod + Fire Ball + Thunder Strike + Spectral damage....

  10. Where's the thread with the Tanker ATO info? I can't find it in the Beta forums.

I remember seeing a trailer for this a few months ago. I'm not sure why there hasn't been more marketing for it. Looks great, but I worry it won't get many sales without a little more advertisement.

I can tell you how it would work out. Perfectly fine.

You see, you have a a minimum of 25% defense to all position types. While a small, small amount of Psi attacks have no position tied to them, you'd still have some defense to help with Psi just from that. And going from 35% to 25% won't greatly reduce your survival.

Also, you're still chasing Positional defense instead of Typed defense. So many slots are wasted there.

And why, WHY do you seriously need to worry about any recovery bonuses? Are you that bad at using Energy Drain? I think you'd be better off swapping out those 2 slotted purples for Pounding Slugfist for regen bonuses.

Taunt is a good power, and can have IO benefits.

You seem to subscribe to this misconception that Taunt does nothing for the user.

For some melee defense sets, having enemies in close range is critical for their survival. Willpower, Invulnerability, Ice Armor and Energy Aura come to mind. Shield Defense uses the same mechanic for damage boost, which is its trade of for lower survival numbers. For these sets, the -range and aggro control aspects of Taunt can be very, very helpful.

To not acknowledge that being as good as Weave or CJ (if not better) sounds foolish to me.

Yesterday I even saw a Tanker with Soul Mastery who had Taunt but skipped Darkest Night....wow.....just wow.....sigh....... guess he justs likes to play low lvls cause a high lvls DN would be much better than Taunt...seriously.
    /facepalm

I know many people who would rather have soft-cap S/L defense rather than pick up their T9. Especially with Electric Armor. And they're better off doing so.

And relying on your T9 to be able to tank well for a team would be much sadder, in my opinion, than relying on taunt to aid you in tanking for a team.

Seriously, your stance on blasting Taunt as a power choice is just as misinformed as the stance that tankers must tank Taunt.

No good deed goes unpunished and this is certainly the case with selflessly taking Taunt since another Tanker/Brute took something else to increase their personal strength.. So dont you feel like a sucker lol
I'll agree this debate is silly, and every time it pops up in the forums it's always the same. But taking Taunt is hardly a punishment. I have tanks and brutes that have Taunt as well as Hasten and Weave or Fireball.

As a tanker, I know that taking Taunt can GREATLY increase my output when used properly. Taking aggro off the Kin in the team means he can keep boosting my damage to the cap (something I won't be doing for myself no matter what power I take). So, who's the sucker in that situation?

In the end folks, take it or don't. Just don't play like a ******. Or do. It's a free country.

So... Using logic to explain why I don't take a tier 9 is... unacceptable...

I think you'll find that many people who build efficient IO characters often skip the "God Mode" power. Being at the softcap makes any defense from Overload mostly wasted. That leaves the considerable HP boost. Now, while that's a great thing, it's not going to mean much if your defense is being negated. I'd rather just build for more damage output.

If I have no problem soloing AVs without it, I don't see the point in making it crucial to the build.
  18. Though I know where to go to find out what costume pieces look like from new sets on sale, I doubt everyone know or wants to have to dig through forum threads to be able to find out.

Sets might sell a little more if marketing would post images of individual pieces. Pics of mixed costume pieces (e.g. throwing in the CoT shoulder pads) can be very confusing to people who don't know it's part of a different set, and could potentially lead to a bunch of "bait and switch" complaints.

    Tights!

Hopefully I'm not asking something that's already been mentioned...

If older tight options are being updated, could some of the patterns be updated to have glowing options? The design team has certainly being have a hay day with glowing costume pieces, so let them loose on the old tight patterns as well.

Also, asymmetric looks would be great too!

While DM/EA is certainly a great combo, your build has a lot of improvements that could be made.

First off, you've purchased a lot of expensive enhancements for little to no return on the investment. I see a lot of 2-slotted purple sets that aren't really getting you squat. Dropping hundreds of millions for .04 end/sec isn't worthwhile. You've got an end recovery power that's up every 20 secs... do you really need to focus so much on recovery!?

Also, you chased defense bonuses that focus more on position than damage type. For EA, that's a waste. More often than not, positional defense bonuses require more slotting, and not only that, the damage type bonus is half as much. Use sets that reward damage type first. It will open up more slotting for you. 6-slotting Oblits or Thunder Strikes just isn't worth it.

Here's my build for my DM/EA/Soul. He's hit the soft-cap for everything but Psi. He didn't have to get the PVP Def IO, and he's got more recharge bonus to boot. I've got more attacks from DM, and I'm able to solo AVs at a decent pace. Take a look. It's much more affordable with the sets I've used.

This is completely stupid. If I'm watching the show live and walk away while the commercials are playing, is that considered pirating? No. Fast forwarding past them on a recording is no different. Seriously, your question was answered a long time ago. No one's buying your sales pitch. Move on.

Side note: in case you're trying to use the rational that this isn't piracy so you can then copy DVR recordings to be distributed elsewhere, then don't be surprised if you run into legal problems, because that is piracy, which I'm sure you are well aware of.
  23. On topic: It's the same with VCR's. If this was considered piracy, they wouldn't be selling them. Whether you watch a commercial or not is nothing that is guaranteed. What's to say I haven't walked away from the TV while commercials are going on. The whole premise that that DVR's are the same as pirating is so horribly flawed it shouldn't even have a thread to question it.

Prediction: Soon Dur will be derailing his own thread like the last time he brought up a similar subject (see his suggestion that his memories of a movie could just as easily be considered piracy by his own special definition) and bring about a threadlock after complaining we all gang up on him.
