When do we get the official I20 preview announcement?
-
Pass. I'd be really mad to buy this now then find out sometime in 2011 that the game was going F2P - or worse. I'm also not convinced this game will be getting the level of support and ongoing content development that it needs (and used to have) in light of recent staff changes.
Thanks but definitely no thanks. -
Looking back, what in terms of content updates and quality of life improvements would you have done differently? Do you give all 19 issues of content the thumbs up our would you have swapped a particular feature out just to have something else?
-
When have you ever known the devs to release a new issue before a major holiday?
The answer is never because they never do. If its in a holiday month, it always comes after the holiday.
Its the same way every year... -

It's good to be on the winning team.
I'm not so sure about that. The interviewer's question about Positron leaving for another game internally took me quite by surprise. WW makes a point of not commenting, but...
Eh, I suppose its time. I hope they'll tell us if he does transfer off CoH. You spend so many years talking with someone, rooting for them, etc. Its a shame to suddenly see them up and go with no word of goodbye. -
69 month vet.
I used to play because all my friends were playing it (I recruited most of them). Nowadays.... I just keep the account active should we ever get together again. Right now we are all on a coh break but I am keeping the bases active. About 30 of is will be leaving when dcuo goes live though. I personally am not happy with this games new philosophy that difficult = fun (it doesn't always). I like dynamic gameplay, not fail and learn from your mistakes gameplay. That's just way too punishing to be enjoyed. -
Quote:Hold up, I'm not talking about their private lives... I'm talking about company notifications. When employees are hired, there's an email stating John Smith has joined the company in this capacity. We've gotten tons of these as a player base over the years. There's never been an email however letting folks know that John Smith has left the company and that So n' So will be assuming responsibility as a result. No need nor mention of how or why they left the company. If NCsoft hadn't made a point of formerly introducing new employees to the player base there'd be no reason to disclose this kind of offboarding information. But they did, and so folks are naturally curious as to what these layoffs means for the game.I don't assume I have a RIGHT to know someone else's private life. A game developer is not like a celebrity or public figure that has given up some of his privacy.
I believe it's the person's RIGHT to decide who and how he will share this information
And I agree with you: there is never a good reason to divulge why anyone left, but its good policy to acknowledge there's been a change of staff and that John Smith who they've introduced to the community once before has since left the company and that a backup has been put in place for the short term. If its that big an issue to give the player base some closure, then don't introduce new employees to begin with. Its that simple.
And try not to SHOUT IN CAPS, please. Thank you dear. -
Which is why you can at least acknowledge that _________ has left the company or no longer works for the company. We have been introduced to a slew of new devs over the years but have almost never had acknowledgment of when they left. If positron, castle or war witch left tomorrow would you be ok with never being told they were gone?

I hope for only the best for BABs and anyone else who was laid off today. My husband and I have been there (both laid off in February 2009, within two weeks of each other) and we both understand what it is you're about to go through... there is a light at the end of the tunnel though. Just hang in there. You guys will get picked up in no time!
HUGS!!! I feel so sad!!!! -
I said it was gonna happen some months back; sad to say I was right.
If its true about BABs, then I take no joy in having called spades correctly. Back Alley Brawler was *THE BEST* Dev we ever had that was dedicated to working for the player, responding to the player, and always trying to keep the player informed. It goes without saying that all our devs are wonderful but there was always something about BABs that made you feel really tight with this game.
Dude, if you're out there and reading this - I'M SO SORRY!!! HANG IN THERE!!!
EDIT
Wonder if/how layoffs will affect COH2?? You'd think if such a project was happening, BABs would've been among the first to move over to that team. -
Actually, I think folks like me that make it very hard for the Devs to effectively and directly communicate. We get defensive, suspicious to the point of becoming accusatory and down right angry at times with the way decisions are made or the way certain information is (and is not) communicated.
Some days I have my regrets about sharing my opinions openly; other days I know that regardless of good or bad, as long as I remain objective, they'll listen (but not always comment). I don't always remain objective though - and for people who take this game passionately, sometimes its really hard to remain objective. But I do realize that I (among others) haven't made it easy for them to talk openly, and quite frankly some days I really do have the wrong end of the stick when it comes to *why* changes are being made. In those instances, its best that I step back from the forum, catch my breath, and check back in later once i've cooled down a bit. It doesn't always work but I try.
Right now, I also think its best for everyone if the Devs/OCRS *don't* comment directly - but rather, let Going Rogue sell itself. Perfect time to catch a breath, relax, and burn some vacation hours. Eventually the Devs will come back and comment. OCR? Not so sure but they're always welcome to be a lot more directly involved with the community. I think we were all definitely spoiled by Ex Libris and Cuppa always trying to keep us informed and acknowledging what was happening with certain events/inquiries on a regular basis. They didn't have to do that - but it was sure nice that they did. -
After 41+ pages of discussion, the fact that most of you are obsessing about the Fitness pool becoming inherent more than any other feature announced for I19 at PAX really says something.
I'm not sure what - but it really says something nonetheless... -

As I expected, everything originally "conjectured" for Issue 19 has been pushed back, and I don't expect we'll see Issue 20 until April 2011 (endgame content that comes just in time for the anniversary). I guess it makes sense though - fall/winter will be spent checking out other games, so by the time April rolls around, folks will be ready to try something new again. I'm suprisingly okay with that. Take all the time you need but make sure to keep Jay busy as heck! Folks really want more costume options - and soon (nice to hear Jay is still there by the way; at some point it'd be nice to get a Dev staff update as to whose still there and whose not - BaB's has been so quiet that I'm starting to worry for him. I truly miss his wry sense of humor).
Oh, that third Twitter pic is Praetoria - probably a fourth zone, but its definitely Praetoria nonetheless. Makes sense if you're going to add Primal Toon access in issue 19 - and a fourth zone would probably make the base foundation for any game content coming up over the next few issues. -
I wonder if this is how the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy was conceived...

Its funny, but until this past weekend, I totally overlooked the "returning player" factor for Going Rogue. It's amazing how much content returning players have missed inbetween City of Villains going live and Going Rogue coming out now (plus or minus a few months on both milestones).
A lot of folks who haven't played since 2006 and beyond have come back in the past week and aren't just talking about what Going Rogue has to offer but how much the content on the whole has changed/improved since they last logged in. And just about everybody is raving about Ultra Mode. They're convinced its an entirely new game from what they left a few years back. And I guess the proof is really in the pudding. We're now a week to the day from GR's official release and the servers are still packed, folks are still playing, and a lot of old friends are really happy about the improvements they've seen that I've taken for granted as a constant player.
There really is more life to be had in the old girl yet!
I humbly eat crow and apologize to the Devs, Arcanaville and many others for having my doubts. And for those veteran daily grinders like me who've been constantly playing since Year One and are griping that Issue 18/Going Rogue has absolutely no content them for them, just take it from me: sooner or later, it will. Just take a look around you, start rediscovering the zones with friends you haven't seen in a good long time, and suddenly everything old and tired will feel wonderful and new again.
It really is a wonderful feeling. -
I know my folks were absolutely thrilled by Praetoria last night, and a bunch called out this morning to keep playing.
How are other folks enjoying their first day playing Going Rogue? -
I love it that you're quitting after beta-testing GR. That's just too funny for words.

No, the'yre all down AGAIN?!! For the love of Hera, would the Devs PLEASE finally fix this stupid bug once and for all? It keeps rearing its ugly head again and again and again and I'm sick of it! This many years on, this bug should not keep occurring!
Come on guys, I know you can do way better than this...
