O okay that makes more sense considering what I've been seeing.

Novella no offense intended but can you cite a source for your info?
My experiences so far have led me to believe the side-switching will be more a part of i18 than GR, and you won't need access to GR to switch sides.
I understand that the whole idea of GR is the side-switching thing - but I was under the impression that if you didn't buy GR you wouldn't be able to visit Praetoria, but would still be able to switch sides.
Unfortunately at this point I'm not allowed to discuss what gave me that impression. -
And Rhino don't forget - one-stop shopping for all AT/powerset/build questions can be found in the Player Guides section (<--linky)

Apologies for the anemic response - please understand there have been a LOT of new and returning players popping in here the past couple of weeks.
I suspect some of the "regulars" here are a bit welcome-back'd out.
If you're looking for more "welcome back" kinda info, I suggest stepping through the last few pages here and reading into some of the other "Returning player - lots of questions" type-threads.
If I get motivated I'll try to link you to some of the more helpful ones...
Here you go:

Quote:That's really interesting - I'd never thought of that or seen it suggested - but Yes I've encountered scenarios where I ran out of arc missions and wanted a radio to bridge the gap until I could hit a contact or two, but was in the wrong zone for it.11. radio/paper missions can be picked up from any zone, mission appears in correct zone for difficulty level.
As a regular PuG leader, in this situation I'd ask my team to travel back to some zone without having a mish up, something I don't like to do as leader.
Good idea Gavin! -
Quote:If you like the Archery set a lot you might like the Trick Arrow primary for Defenders. You can make a Trick Arrow/Archery defender and have a great time sitting back, debuffing the snot out of mobs, then helping kill them. Especially once you get your Rain of Arrows
Not to mention the Oil Slick.
Wait don't give him Rain of Arrows too soon, he'll miss out on all the other fun powers and ATs... just be Rainin' those Arrows down alldaylong, 'n gigglin'.

Alter a question like this will get a more enthusiastic response if you post in the Tech Issues & Bugs forum (<-linky).
This forum's more for in-game questions like "at what level can I get a cape", while more of the real hard-core tech heads lurk in the other forum. -
The Shadow Shard - not many reasons to go there other than that, if you haven't, you should.
There are repeatable missions, a TF, and a Jetpack vendor, but not much else besides a totally unique, freaky-looking zone made up of floating islands and other-worldly creatures.
On Peregrine Island, open your map and find the Firebase Zulu marker in Portal Court.
Follow that into the building and through the portal.
Talk to the guys on the other side for an introduction to the zone, especially traveling between the floating islands via Force Geysers.
Then go explore. -

Um...bye?
Had my first Mentor experience last night, helping a new player find his way from City Hall to the Yellow Line to Galaxy.
Rewarding, if short-lived.
Looking forward to more Mentoring ahead! -
Quote:Just FYI, for anyone looking at all those questions and feeling discouraged about contacting Support with a similar problem...I have to admit, I do not have all the code information added to my accounts. (And there's a lot. I have a booster/costume issue.*
) If asked for those ... I'm done. I'd hope they'd accept correct answers on a good proportion of those questions but if it's all or nothing... ewwww.
NCSoft was very gracious despite me being unable to provide some of the information they "required" in the email. They did some additional checking using information I DID have, and got me rollin' Hero-style again in short order. -

Given the Trial Account limitations on sending Tells, I have a suggestion for you...
If you enjoy teaming, consider typing a comment in your Search Comment along the lines of:
"Trial Account player looking for teams - please Blind Invite!"
and basically don't try to hide the fact that you're on a Trial Account in any way - most Vet players will go out of their way to make your Trial experience a great one, so you'll eventually upgrade to a full account. -
Yeah that looks exactly like the info they asked me to provide when I took a break, moved and lost all my original info, then tried to re-subscribe.
Not saying you shouldn't be skeptical, but that looks right to me.
If you're worried, just call the numbers there and give 'em the info over the phone. -

Quote:On the Server Selection screen, the servers appear in the following order:hello im brand new to this game, and started it alone. ive managed to get a hero to level 8 so far, and im on the pinacle server (chose it at random lol) there really doesnt seem to be anyone around on pinnacle. i was wondering if i could get a mentor or if theres a more populated server i can join with people to talk to. its kind of boring playing alone. =(
-Last Server you logged on to
-Least busy Server

-Most busy Server (usually Freedom or Virtue)
And remember most of the gameplay in this MMO takes place indoors in "instances", so it's not uncommon to see relatively few players hanging around or camping a spawn spot, as you might see in some other MMOs.
Players are out there though - try typing /Search in your chat line and experimenting with the drop-down menus to see some of the other heroes online at that moment. -
Quote:Hmm. Worst PUG Experience ever...
Well, I've had a lot, like a Katie's with a Tank who didn't have taunt and swore it could hold aggro with melee-attacks. Not with hurricane running and no to hit buffs deary. I've been on Task Force's where I've actually kicked the tank for being an idiot. I've been on teams where the Fire / Kin's didn't have Increase Density and couldn't figure out why on earth why they were expected to have it. I've been on teams where I've had to explain to the Storm that their O2 boost could stop the Malta's sapper drain. I've been on (old) Posi's where we got to the final mission in Perez Park and then the team leader says we "have" to go to Faultline cause we have to go to the Dam.
Welp, after 5+ years of casual play I have to say...WTH does any of that mean? No offense intended, but I have a life, I can't concern myself with knowing that 02 boost can stop a sapper drain - (really? like - in progress? Interrupt and reverse the drain? Who knew?) or why a Fire/Kin would be expected to have Increase Density (why?). But that doesn't keep me from being an effective player and PuG leader.
It's impossible to pinpoint one particular thing that makes a player or PuG bad or good. I've known good players to have a bad night or RL issues that kept them from playing at 100% attention/contribution. I've known bad players I've continued to invite because at least they were giving it their all.
Apologies for semi-derail, back to Worst PuGs please. -
If you're looking for precise numbers, no - but the servers are always listed on the Select Server screen in the following order:
-Server you last logged onto
-Least populated Server
.
.
.
.
-Most populated Server (usually Freedom/Virtue) -
Sorry to hear about your lag issues Rodney.
But a question like this will get a more enthusiastic response if you post in the Tech Issues & Bugs forum (<-linky).
I suggest starting in the ++Common Solutions & Posting Guidelines++ thread.
This forum's more for in-game questions like "at what level can I get a cape", while more of the real hard-core tech heads lurk in the other forum.
They'll ask you to run a couple of harmless diagnostic programs and post the results, then they'll dig in and offer some advice. -
One suggestion if you're going to roll another trial Hero, and you enjoy teaming...
Since you can't send Tells or Invite people to team on a Trial Account, the best way to ensure you'll be ASKED to team, is to put in a Search Note along the lines of:
"Trial Account looking for teams, please Blind Invite!"
Also, don't hesitate to make it widely known that you're on a Trial Account, you'll find many players eager to take you under their wing (or jetpack) and show you around a bit. Maybe even TelePort you to some fun badges or the top of a skyscraper for some sightseeing, or slap a big gift of Influence on you so you can play around with Enhancements or in the Market.
p.s.

Quote:De-wallotext'dWell, I have a few tips for newer players.
First of all, while every archetye has theyre primary role on a team, most archetypes can fill just about any role. No Major damage dealers on the team? A support player or two can easily supply sufficient damage. No tank? a scrapper can take a decent amount of damage, especially if a support player is covering him by weakening his enemies or making him tougher.
In fact a team of all support players with no main tank or damage dealer is still an extremely effetive group. Also, there are several power combinations that people will say are the best, like Fire control and kinetics for a controller, or fire blast for blaster, or stone armor for a tank. While these ARE effective power sets and combos, it is not possible to make a "bad" character. You may be less effective than others, but by no means are you useless.
Basicly, I recomend a scrapper for your first character. Personally they are my favorite archetype. They can take a hit, and dish out some hefty damage.
Controllers are another one of my favorites, and while they can be very hard to play (especially if you are solo), they are potentially extremely powerful.
Blasters are a bit of a challenge as well, but only because they are fragile. Not a complicated character to play.
Then there are tankers. I personally dont like playing tanks, I find them kind of dull. However many people enjoy them and thay can make a major difference on a team.
Defenders are another archetype that is potentially frustrating, but very fun, and quite powerful.
Then there are Warshades and Peacebringers. You don't get to play them until you get a character to lvl 20, and they are possibly the most complex archetypes, namely because of theyre ability to shapeshift. As a human they can deliver modest damage from a range, and have some decent powers to resist damage. However they can shapeshift into a kind of flying squid, and deliver a powerful ranged punch, but they lose virtually all of theyre damage resistance. They can also turn into a large, lobster like creature. This form is wicked tough, and can heal itself. However this form is slow and can only attack at a close range.
All in all, no archetype or powerset is bad, but they are all unique. Try out a whole bunch of characters before you pick a favored archetype.
Oh, and welcome to Paragon City and/or the rogue isles. I have found the CoH community to be a very friendly one in my 5 years here, and I hope you have the same experience.
As for a starting Server, I recomend pinnacle. It is a small community, but there are enough people to get stuff done. It is also the friendliest server I've been on, and in my experience, most peple are very tolerant and understanding of new players.
If you do decide to play there, look me up. My global name is @szpek (if you wanna talk to me, type "/tell @szpek, inseret text here"). I have a small casual supergroup (basicly a guild) you're welcome to join -
You'll probably get a more enthusiastic response to this kinda question in the Tech Issues & Bugs section.
The tech-heads who lurk there are gonna ask you to run a couple of diagnostics programs and post the results, then dig through and give you suggestions on a fix.
